Awesome test. I think the drills are fairly evenly matched to be honest, it's like you said, its not a difference worth jumping platform's to.

Flex Turbo Hammer drill is a very powerful tool. I got the kit with both the drill and quick eject impact driver was a better deal over all.

Thank you for your video. I an an HVACR tech and have been using cheap home owner grade drills/impacts for 19 years (I'm a service tech not an installer). But once In a while I help the installers and find my brand lacking. Did a few days of research and was a tossup between DeWalt and Flex. I JUST (30 mins ago) bought the flex BL driver and impact for a great price. The main reason I went with Flex is last week there was four of us installing a 5 million btu heat makeup unit and three of them had DeWalt. All day they were trying to grab thier drill and grabbing someone else's. So now I won't get mine confused with everyone else's. Both are great. And Flex is offering a lifetime battery and tool warranty if you buy them this year.

I couldn't care if the Flex ate the DeWalt's lunch. I am so invested in DeWalt that it would make no sense for me to add or change platforms.

I've got a big dewalt fleet myself from 20v to 10 and 12 compound miter saws.I am really about done with dewalt,I find myself needing a new impact every 6 months.This flex stuff looks good if they will honor the warranty
then why are you watching if you have no intention of changing platforms ?
If the DeWalt couldn't do a test in speed three you should have put it down to speed two, It would have destroyed the Flex in the more difficult tests. I know some people would argue that it's unfair, but think about it, if you only use the highest and lowest speeds on the drills regardless of how many they have then you are only really testing the power of the motor, rather than the overall performance.

Review was great! In terms of ergonomics which do you prefer, Flex, Dewalt, or Milwaukee? And how about battery insertion/removal? Maybe a video about that would be cool cause everyone just talks about speed tests but not how it feels in the hand and ease of use.

Wow, I didn't really think it would but the Flex seemed to tie or just barely beat out the DeWalt in most of these tests. Doing that while being a fairly compact drill is a big win in my book, because that DeWalt is a beast of a drill.
Both of these are a beast but the dewalt ha proveen it's self over the years. One good thing about the flex is that if you buy in this year you can get a lifetime warranty.
@@toolhead147e dewalt has 3 speeds for a reason. The Dewalt will last longer if you use your drills properly regarding using the right gears when the bits are larger. Put a 12ah batter on the dewalt in low gear and I mix mud in the pail with it!!!!
Voltage may still matter regardless of wattage.

Great Video! I'm looking to buy a drill to use as an ice auger, I have no other tools so brand doesn't matter too much to me. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the DCD999 or the 2804, but these flex tools claim slightly higher power than either and have a lifetime warranty. What do you recommend? Also what is the most powerful battery for the DCD999? There seems to be some confusion there.
Both look really good and seem about the same for the most part. I personally use a 998 and love it with the newer powerstack because it makes it so light but still very powerful. Dewalts been good to me but been testin out some Mil and would like to try this in hand cause only real way to know.

It just shows how strong the Flex drill is.
I’m almost positive that the Flex battery uses 18650 cells, and the Dewalt battery uses 21700 cells.
For clarity. The DCD999 is not a true ‘FlexVolt’ line. It is a 20v tool, Like it says on the side.
It is redesigned to take ‘Advantage’ of the 60v battery.
I believe Dewalt’s next move will be a true Flex Volt a hammer drill.

Gotta say I really love the look of the Flex tools. They fit me personally. I’m a Milwaukee guy and I use Rigid for my techs due to the lifetime warranty. That’s most important to me business wise and price point as they are all really powerful enough. I feel Milwaukee and Makita have the most impressive overall lines as they offer things the others don’t. DeWalt has the history of being most reliable and always amongst the strongest. Still the fastest Impact is Milwaukee and the strongest Hammer Drill is DeWalt when paired with the HO batteries etc.
The High Output batteries are still equivalent to the Flex battery as Flex has packed extra cells in there so it’s even. Flex gets the advantage by shipping the 5ah with the tool and going with the additional cells to start as opposed to lower amperage batteries coming with the other lines however that’s expected since their drills are a few years old now. Even still with the Milwaukee and DeWalt 2-3yrs older they still are stronger than the flex overall. Not fastest on easy nuts etc but the tough stuff they get it done where Flex can’t so I still have them ahead.
That being said Milwaukee is set to release Gen 4 later this year or early next year and that’ll be a wrap on Flex but I like the excitement, look and feel of the new Flex tools and don’t feel they have to be top dog. They came out with perhaps the best launch ever as many tools start out with much lower quality. The future is bright for Flex and if offered at Home Depot where I have an account I’d purchase.
I agree 👍with you flex are nice tools. I can't wait to see the response from milwaukee and dewalt to these tools maybe a gen 4 impact driver that would be nice.

I could probably push the dewal all day no problem running smooth and cool even on speed 3. The Flex I would say you could push it all day but how long is it going to last in the jobsite overhearing.

Seen a video Man Caver Tools that has 6 amp hour dewalt flexvolt batteries that are boosted up with 21000 cell batteries , when he put that battery in dewalt tools they really kicked in beast mode, they had yellow bottoms on the 60v dewalt flexvolt batteries . That test was pretty close with same battery sizes
Yes...that is the “newer” battery that came with the drill in the box when the 999 came out. The battery he used in the video was the Home Depot special that if you buy the 999 as a tool only you get the “older” 6AH Flexvolt. I asked a Home Depot rep and he said that”black” battery is being discontinued..👍👍
Man Caver tools was testing the power detect DCD998. Which is stronger than the dcd999 FlexVolt advantage.
20v 6.0 ah battery is 2 rows of 21700 cells with a total count of 10 battery cells.
60v -20v FlexVolt battery is 3 rows of 18650 cells with a total count of 15 battery cells.
@@juanc5149 On paper anyways, The 998 claims 1072 UWO (Unit watts out) equals about 111 FT-LB vs 999 claims 1219 UWO equals about 126.5 FT-LB.
Here is the Formula I found to calculate this values.
Minimum speed multiplied by the torque and devided by 560 = UWO (The 560 is a constant set by the Power Tool Association)
Here is the formula in reverse to figure out the torque of a dewalt to compare to other drills.
UWO x 560 / min speed = in-lb x 12 = ft-lb
Except the fact the tests were done incorrectly. I am not defending flex or any brand, but someone needs to address what he’s doing wrong or else people are going to be misinformed.
I am not knocking flex, but the dewalt 998 power detect was proven to be a beast and more of a beast when using a high output 21700 cell battery, like man cave tools said you wouldnt take your foot off the gas to let someone else catch up , so why not use the biggest battery your company makes when going up against quote " the most powerful hammerdrill on the market " flex marketing quote from opening day ......

Thanks man for the share. I'm looking for a hammer drill driver and torn b/t DCS999 and Milwaukee M18 fuel 2804-20. I have a lot of red, but don't mind going yellow & black if it is a better performing tool. Flex is too new for me, although the brand has been around for some time in Europe. What concerns me about Flex is that it was sold to the Chinese, and we all know Chinese = quality. Mmmm hmmm. Not saying that it's bad, just saying too new for me. Additionally, the electronic turbo just seems like it is one more thing that could go wrong in the future. I have seen a YT video where both the red and yellow were repeatedly dunked in a bucket of water, and they still continued to perform (one stopped because of the battery getting wet). Not sure how Flex would hold up to such a torture test. My hesitation with red is the chuck and trigger. I hear from some reviews that they are the weak point of the tool. Hopefully, Milwaukee will fix these issues with Gen 4, but🤷. Thanks again.
You can't go wrong with dewalt. If you want the best most powerful get the power detect with a 6ah or higher they have the upgraded 21700 cells. That combo will beat the home depot flexvolt.

@@daniloduldulao8286 there was one particular video where mct was comparing Milwaukee, dewalt 998 power detect, and flex. In order to make it “fair” according to him he ran all of them on regular 5.0 batteries 18650 cells, but decided to have dewalt run on speed 2 to face off against Milwaukee and Flex on speed 2. The problem with that is that dewalt has 3 speed transmission, so its speed 2 isn’t really at max rpm like the other tool. When you are drilling at a lower gear, you should have no problem with less chance of cutting out on you. Worshopaddict, another channel, kinda did a similar test also running dewalt on 5.0 at speed 3 and even that thing would occasionally come across a few hiccups. I guess 18650 batteries tends to overheat easily when you have them running at high speed hence the cutout. Now, he did have another video before it where he ran the Flex on a 5.0 against the Milwaukee and dewalt on 21600 batteries and obviously the latter two had no trouble drilling that speedbor bit at max speed while the Flex struggled. 21600 batteries don’t overheat as easily, so that wasn’t even a fair comparison either. The other issue is that speedbor mct is using to test hammer drills as that bit is really only designed to be ran at 500 rpm as recommended by Irwin, but mct is running it at 2000 rpm for his tests.....that thing is running hot and burning on high speed (it almost caught fire when I ran about 5 holes). So the reason he ran dewalt on speed 2 with 5.0 on the other video, he said it was to make it fair.....mct’s tests were flaw and he never ran the dewalt 998 on speed 3 with the 5.0 battery on that particular video even when he swapped back to 6.0 21600 battery. If you want fair, pay attention to what you are doing. Get a 21600 cell for Flex and retest everything all over again using the proper bit and setting them on the right speed.

The dewalt has a 21700 cells which are more powerful aka not a fair compromise
Flex is working on the high output batteries. I think the next gen of flex will put all brands behind them. But that depends entirely on the sales and demand for the products. Ridgid was dragging azz on making string trimmers and such, so I got Makita. Hella good deals on Makita right now

I hate to say this but if you pause the video at 17 seconds ........They look like identical twins with different clothes. I know that dewalt has had theirs longer so flex copied but, maybe we should be questioning if they are made by the same team and sold differently to corner the market.

You should skip some of these small drill bits and fasteners . Do something to test the tool .

The Dewalt speed 2 dosen't make the drill and better, It still has a max rpm of 2000 and a min rpm of 450
The 998 claims 1072 UWO (Unit watts out) equals about 111 FT-LB vs 999 claims 1219 UWO equals about 126.5 FT-LB.
Milwaukee 2804-20 claims 100ft-lb torque at 550 rpm, which equals about 1180 UWO
Here is the Formula I found to calculate this values.

Here is the formula in reverse to figure out the torque of a dewalt to compare to other drills.
UWO x 560 / min speed = in-lb x 12 = ft-lb
So dewalt should just call their 3rd speed Turbo and it would be in the same class?
Dewalt's max RPM in speed 2 is 1300 and max RPM in speed 3 is 2000
Then why did Flex compare it to them in their live stream?
The flex technically has 4 speeds. Speed 1, speed 1 turbo, speed 2, speed 2 turbo
Turbo button is just un-governing the current allowed to draw. Current (amps) = heat. Will be interesting to see what this does to tool life running hotter all the time.

The DeWalt DCD998 Power Detect, is a more powerful drill than the FlexVolt Advantage DCD999 with the 6.0 ah battery.
Also MCT proved that the DeWalt power detect is the superior tool by far.

At this point, testing has determined that manufacturers claims means jack shit.
Channels like mct, torque test channel, shop tool reviews, project farm, has more than proven that manufacturers, lie. 😦.
The DCD998 out performs the DCD999. And it absolutely trounced the Milwaukee consistently as well in the past. And it out performed the over hyped flex as well.

After that mct done a test and dewalt destroyed the flex the best way to find out is to buy a flex buy a dewalt and i guarantee you'll be returning the flex the next day
The DCD998 is much more powerful than the dcd999 with a 6ah battery. You’d need. 9ah or 12ah battery to match the 998 with the 999.
MCT was testing the 998, not the 999.
Don't forget that MC was running the tools incorrectly. Dewalt on speed 2 is not the same as Flex on speed 2 because Dewalt's max speed is on Speed 3. The faster it runs, the sooner it reaches the overheating threshold. As you saw on this video, toolhead ran both tools at maximum speed and they both cut out. If you ran the tool slower, then it's a different story.
Not if you put both of them in the top speed Flex speed 2 Dewalt speed 3 not speed 2
At the end of the day that DeWALT can drive that lag bolt or screw faster.
It’s not Dewalt’s fault that Flex doesn’t have a mid gear.
Dewalt is the superior tool. And mct is the superior channel. Sorry.
@@juanc5149 you still don’t get it do you? There is a reason why certain things behave the way they do. Speed 2 on dewalt is of lower gear/rpm and not at max speed so of course you can get the job done without cutting out or less likely to cut out. If you want to use that as an argument, then flex beats dewalt all the way by having turbo for each gear because yea having extra gears makes everything better. It’s like you are saying 1000 rpm = 2000 rpm. That speedbor used at mct is only rated for 500 rpm!
Dewalt is way better quality
