Dang Arktix.... You are such a smooth beast. As always, an EXTREMELY informative video, deeply appreciate the depth, pacing and clarity you work into your vids! Your community that you work with seem like a fantastic crew, wish I were good enough to actually contribute something lol. Thanks again, as always so much. Can't get over how well paced these are, you dump SO MUCH into these, but they're perfectly organized, you've got SO MANY HYPER-USEFUL TOOLS as links!! I've practically made a blanket out of your spreadsheets and hide under them in Very Hard, which isn't the most effective strat, but I die more comfortably! More seriously, just tossing out random potential ideas (I infinitely trust your thought processes, this is just me making a potential wish-list)... I'm turning into an old woman, and my video gaming skills are getting more grinding-like than quick-skill, and despite my desire for ultra-Duper-Hard Mode to eventually be a thing for me to try, I'm really not doing too well on Very Hard, I keep having to turn the Custom damage on Aloy down to Normal or Hard. Would it be possible to maybe in the future tackle a comprehensive "things the average player MUST have prepared before trying Ultra Duper" vid for folk like me? I'm sure I'm not the only one. Right guys? ....Guys? Another neat video idea might be maxing out melee techniques, best ways to heal or coil your armour... again I'm not exactly requesting these, just throwing ideas that I personally would find interesting. There's not a single video you've made where I've not learned a TON sooooo keep doing what you're doing lol! You're deeply appreciated, as you can tell from your first comments when you upload. Thanks so much for your hard work! Tell your crew on Discord we all really appreciate their work too! Those resources you link to that they've made are super helpful. Again, thanks very much, and best wishes to you my sensei. Stay safe and well out there! (wonderful to see Whiskers the Crosshair again, you cheeky critter) > -_-
In general i would suggest Tenakth Tactician (The "Mount Armor"), and the Tenakth Vanquisher (The "Low Health" Armor) to be fully upgraded, and the right weaves you can play low health playstyle, it´s far more forgiving then you may realize. Also they complement each other on reistance. Getting Weapon Stamina and Stamina Regen weaves is a good idea too. Weapons: Elite Ropecaster, and Sun Scourge. While getting older, i feel my reaction time lessen :/ If you have any specific question or want more details, Arktix Discord Channel is always open and helpful and most people are quite nice, unlike me and i bet, we get you through very hard and setting you up for some ultra hard.
Wow thanks Wren! You always leave such kind comments and I always appreciate it 😊 That's an interesting ideas for a videos. I do have melee playstyle video on my list, but I'll have to think about how I could do a "preparing for ultra hard" one. I guess it would just need to be a video about all the important combat mechanics you need to get comfortable with to play at those higher difficulty levels. I'll think on that some more. I like the idea. Thanks for sharing it! Oh, and by the way the kitten's name is Eevee. She is one of my Discord community member's kitten 😄
All videos are brilliant, its like a must for everyone playing horizon. Even if you are casual and play on story, the whole series you do has huge amount of tips. And i just know, it will blow up once they release this for PC users
Hey thanks! I’m glad you’re liking my videos 😄 I hope they’ve been helpful! And yeah I hope they don’t take forever to bring HFW to PC. I think I’ll be able to help a lot more people out with my content when they do!
These videos are great! Finally got my hands on a PS5 and am starting the game over to compare to my PS4 playthrough. Your advice is so helpful and has changed the way I approach combat situations. Would also love something on melee combat as I struggle with button mashing and I know there has to be a better way. Keep up the great work!
I really appreciate finding these videos on Forbidden West. Loved Zero Dawn and am finding myself disliking most of my combat experience in Forbidden West so finding out how to navigate around (what I find to be) a tedious and unfun combat system is really helping get to the story which thankfully most everything else outside of combat is as good as ZD so far.
Thanks Diego! I’m glad to hear you like my videos. I totally agree the game has more depth and complexity than a lot of players realize. Hopefully my channel is helping people learn about all that! And thank you so much for your Super Thanks! Much appreciated! 😄🤜🤛
First of your vids I've found - absolutely superb! Smooth, professionally put together and well paced. Great explanation of some tricky stuff (I came searching for knockdown info, will def check out the spreadsheet as well), wish I could give more thumbs up! Thanks :)
Hey thanks a lot! Glad you found this helpful 😄 The Knockdown spreadsheet will be up soon! I’ll do a community post to let everyone know when it’s done.
Would love to see you do a dedicated Knockdown/Critical Strike video! Knockdowns & Critical Strikes can be SUPER helpful on higher difficulties against small & mid sized machines, specially early on in a playthru. I find them to be SUPER helpful in dealing lots of damage fast! In fact, the new Grapple Strike ability is SUPER powerful in that it automatically gives a Resonator spot to shoot as well! Having an armor with a Crit Strike + Resonator Blast +2 perk makes this a VERY strong tactic to end small & mid sized machines quickly!
I expected some of your videos to simply be clickbait but you are providing 110% information holding your breath from start to finish. This is chock full of immense content keep it up it's amazing.
I know this has been said, but your videos are of such high quality and the most informative that I've seen in my quest to get a better understanding of this game. You really are vastly underrated and deserve way more subs than you currently have. Keep up the good work and I hope your channel continues to grow.
Hey thanks a lot! 😄 Glad you’re finding my content to be high quality. I do put a lot of work into it, so I’m glad it shows! I hope you’re enjoying Forbidden West 😁 Thanks for your comment!
Just to chime in with all the comments below - great video. Concise, pleasantly fast paced and very well-informed and helpful facts. My only issue is that the video spoiled two or three of the mid- to late-game machine types for me, where there would certainly have been a bigger wow-effect for me had I discorvered them naturally in the game. Don't know how to fix that problem though, maybe use only early game (new game +?) footage or at least include a spoiler warring.
Finally getting around to playing this game for the first time, and I gotta say, your videos are insanely helpful. Really great content my dude, thanks a lot.
Sadly only Base Criticial chance, i.e. those written in the notebook so increased values: 30% for Spike Thrower,Blastslings, 20% for Hunter Bows, Boltblasters and Shredders and 10% for Warrior Bows and Sharpshot Bows.
Pretty cool right!? I didn't know it either until I got a copy of the official guide! It only double the weapons base crit chance though, as Paris mentioned.
@@wisekong6371It’s not better than frost because frost ignores machine armor and doubles your damage 100% of the time. I know I’m 10 months late but maybe for someone who reads this later 😂
Amazing content again man. I been following your guides since i started forbidden west, and it just helped me to better understand and enjoy the game. Keep up the good work bro. 🤜🤜
This is literally the best guide on youtube about damage types in HFW. Oh and also @Arktix, you always make guides that are the best in the entire world like seriously i never ever ever ever found a guide on youtube that dives this deep into damage types, so i think this channel should hit 1 mil subs in like next month (i hope) :)
Hey thanks AJ! This is very kind 😄 I'm glad you're finding my content high quality. I do put a lot of work in to make it that way. Not sure about 1mil next month lol, but maybe someday!
Great content, as always! Have you had a video about ammos? I really enjoy watching your video and wants to try out different weapons and play style. However, whenever I see those expensive ammos, I always go back to my hunter bow 😂
@@sunboshan That is acutally a very good question! Spontanous i only have the answer for two. a) Volatile Sludge, Spikesnots has them a lot and are easy to kill b) Echo Shells...just buy them. 🙂
Thank you! I don’t currently have a video on ammo types. Sounds like you’re wondering where to get the materials to craft them? Resource farming might make a good video…
My go-to strategy in the first game was freezing the machines and then switching to hunter arrows, with the second game on ultra ard NG+ I just used the instant chance coils on the normal hunter bow and swapped them depending on the boss machines in question. that way all I had to do was just use Shards and Ridgewood to craft more since that was so abundant to me.
I think people have their own individual preferences for weapons. Personally, I use hunter bows, sharpshot bows, and shredders almost exclusively (in a normal playthrough). In fact, most of the time I'm using a hunter bow and a shredder. The combination seems to get the job done in most situations, though fights tend to last a long time.
Thank you so much, Arktix, for your in depth analytic videos. They really helped me tackle the game from a different perspective. One question though: How much "elemental build up damage" do I need for which machine until it triggers the elemental state? Is 1000 the threshold, does it depend on the machine, are there any stats?
You're very welcome! Glad you find my content helpful 😄 And good question. The elemental thresholds are different for every element on every machine. They also vary with difficulty level, so I can't really give you a value. We have a spreadsheet over in my Resource Database if you want to check it out though: docs.google.com/document/d/1kqnT60Mwbo5RQDuR7HConIp2bVEKw07KmakupoiZ8oY/edit?usp=sharing
Such an interesting and usefull info! Many thanks again friend!!! I really love this game even more now 😍 And special thanks for the spreadsheets, amazing work!
That has helped me (from watching it) a bit. I am new to this and am still not understanding all the tricks to upgrade weapons and how to use the coils. I have a lot of them but don't see the way to apply them to my weapons.
If you want frustrating mechanics the melee challenges are the way to go. The split second timing required for a lot of those are a VERY practiced art.
If you want to use it for knockdowns, go for overdraw or knockdown power coils. Concentration coils are also an option. If you think it doesn't deal enough impact damage, then the higher damage boost coils also work (e.g. long range, high ground etc. BUT these don't affect knockdown power, so balance your coils to your own preference)
Sem Bohle already gave you a good overview. So you get some finer things from me. KDP (Knockdown Power) of the basic KD Arrow is 120, the advanced one has 150.Overdraw/Concentration boosts all, they are always nice, but they are addative with each other (so 15 OD and 15 concentration will be one increase of KDP by1,30) while Knockdown Power Coils are very likely multiplie (so 15 over drawn and 15 % KDP would become KDP*1,15*1,15= or KDP * 1,3225). So the KDP% Coils are pretty good to go there. The only 25% coils which work are Melee Follow Up. And if you need..overdraw potion :) The highest number you need to reach is between 600 and 700 (slaughterspine, Fire Teddy Bears), those don´t increase with difficulty.
While I thought your video was well produced and presented, I would suggest a disclaimer at the beginning about possible Spoilers for those of us that haven't played through. I was just looking for an explanation of Knockdown damage (which you didn't go over). Id rather not see all the advanced machines I haven't fought yet or know that there is only 1 15% concentration cool and it's on???? Machine (I quickly turned down the volume). It's my fault for keeping watching, but a little warning at the beginning would be appreciated.
Sorry about that. Yes, maybe I should add disclaimers. It’s difficult to show many of these mechanics without using some of the big machines as examples, but I suppose to could try to restrict it to only machines people are familiar with from HZD. Sorry if I spoiled anything for you. I hope you did learn about knockdown though. I’m not sure if it was a typo, but you wrote in parentheses that I didn’t go over it.
Loving the videos, you make the game more enjoyable for a person like me who works all the time and doesn't have time to figure out all the little details. Hope you do god of war in November 🙂
Hey thanks! I’m glad to hear you’re finding my content helpful 😄 And yes, I do plan to cover GoW! We’ll see how much content I can squeeze in for it before Hogwarts Legacy comes out in December!
Wondering this too. I'm pretty sure there's at least two diffrent ones. One shows a skull and the other a mele symbol. I had a bristleback overridden and it was attacked by other machines and the skull appeared. I thought maybe it was an icon saying close to death get over and repair your ride?
Ah so that's called the "Damage Amplified" state. Some machines can apply that to themselves or other machines in the area. It boosts their damage output by 25%.
Ahh, so I guess I dealt too much damage to the Stormbird chest component, because it said something like "elemental state treshold reached" and blew up. Did not find it afterwards. Good to know, more tear less damage next time.
played Zero Dawn often, looking forward to Forbidden West... on pc... but don't like the $80 for it... may make an exception for it this time.. still undecided though..I am the type of player that like to venture into all the corners of a map,, not just the story line... Thanks for sharing your helping me what course I will take on this. It recommends higher them my graphic card which is Nvidia RTX Geforce 2070 8gig.. anyone having problems playing this game.. or will play well with my setup???
So if I get it correctly, the Elemental Buildup Value does not represent damage points inflicted. It represents how quickly that weapon\ammo combination can buildup towards an elemental state. So for example a weapon that can inflict 20 Elemental buildup points will cause Elemental state in half the shots compared to another weapon that has an Elemental buildup value of 10, correct? But if both weapons have the same impact damage, the damage points inflicted are the same.
Basic 120, Advanced 150. Increased by Overdraw/Concentration and of course Knockdown Power (well also Melee Follow Up). Fully coiled, Tremortusk goes down in about 2 advanced KD Arrows, 3-4 for Slaughterspine/Fire Teddy Bear. Spike Throwers are still King, because of their weapon catergory trait, which gives 50% knockdown power when overdrawning. Makes the basic spike do 135 instead of 90 already.
Ah yeah, so Paris gave you a good explanation here. In short, drill spikes are still better than knockdown precision arrows. I find the arrows are more difficult to use for trigger knockdowns and they’re pretty expensive to craft because they require echo shells
Are the tear and impact damage thresholds separate, or combined? eg. can a use a 100% impact weapon to 'weaken' the component less than half way, then a 100% tear weapon to finish it. And also, what about the other types of damage?
Hey Shoeless! Sorry about that 😕 Yeah it was like Ellerbeetimes said, they just weren't getting many views and I have limited time to work on videos, so I prioritized my guide. However, I do want to pick up the walkthrough series again and I might have a few new episodes soon if you're still interested in watching them!
Yeah unfortunately, you're correct. They just weren't getting many views and I needed to choose what I spent my time on. However, I think I'll have a few more episodes again soon! I do want to start it up again. Glad to hear you were enjoying it 😊
@@ArktixOfficialwooohooo ✨ so much more content to come excited for you to possibly also cover how to do maw of the arena at the higher difficulties! 💕🔥
Glad you’re excited 😄 I have an Arena guide on my list as well! But for the moment, if you’d like some tips, my friend Slazenger/MrPantsFancy made an excellent PDF guide. You can find it in my Forbidden West resource database: docs.google.com/document/d/1kqnT60Mwbo5RQDuR7HConIp2bVEKw07KmakupoiZ8oY/edit He also has a video series showing how to do the challenges (links in his PDF guide)
Hey Arktix have you seen some of the Arena record times. Slitherfang on Ultrahard at like 13 seconds... How is that even possible? It resists all the craftable traps too!
I have! Actually the UH Slitherfang (Rematch) record is 50-something seconds. I’ve got the #8 rank right now, but I want to get #1 😬 The trick with that particular challenge is to use piercing shredders and frost arrows.
in HZD I could just spam jump-and-shoot because I get infinite slow motion from it. Slow motion, or 'concentration', is nerfed in HFW. Just like traps and other things. I never thought I'd enjoy it more now that they made the gameplay more challenging.
Double "Base Critical Chance" which is listed in the Notebook and not on the inventroy screen 5%=Warrior Bow, Sharpshot Bow 10%=Boltblaster, Hunter Bow, Shredder 15%= Spikethrower, Blastsling. Those get doubled, and only those.
Haha yeah I actually didn’t know that either until I got my copy of the official guide book. As Paris Teta responded for you already, it only doubles the base crit hit chance stat that’s shown in the notebook.
I am noticing a couple repeating questions about the crit boost that the acid state gives.
When a machine is in the acid state the base crit chance of your weapons is doubled. These base crit chances are shown in the notebook. A couple examples are:
Sharpshot - 5% ( becomes 10% when the machine is corroded)

(wonderful to see Whiskers the Crosshair again, you cheeky critter) > -_-
Totally agree a "what you need to be ready for Very Hard / Ultra Hard" would be great.
While getting older, i feel my reaction time lessen :/
If you have any specific question or want more details, Arktix Discord Channel is always open and helpful and most people are quite nice, unlike me and i bet, we get you through very hard and setting you up for some ultra hard.
Your deep dive vids have given me a new appreciation for HFW.
That's great to hear! Thanks Marc!
You are my go-to guy for this game when I need help and info. Thanks for all your hard work fella. Much appreciated.
Hey thanks Andi! Glad you’re finding my content helpful 😁
I did not know that you don't need to aim for the legs when the machines are running. What a cool detail, thank you for the great guide, as always!
You’re very welcome! Glad you could pick up a tip form it 😄 I think that’s a cool detail too.
Thank you so much for these guides. They helped me so much during the early game. Especially the knockdown tutorial
Hey thanks a lot! I'm glad to hear you've been finding my content helpful. I hope you're enjoying your second playthrough on PS5!
Thanks! Really have enjoyed all your vids. People don't realize the depth and exploration this game provides with strategies for taking down machines.
How do u leave a comment with a tip?
@@BillThaPill There's a thanks button next to 'like', 'dislike', 'share', 'download', etc.
@@dondvj22 awesome thank you
Thanks Diego!
Played whole game - basically only understanding how impact (and tear somewhat) worked - really great video post fact!
I expected some of your videos to simply be clickbait but you are providing 110% information holding your breath from start to finish. This is chock full of immense content keep it up it's amazing.
100% the ps5 version and now on PC and this guide STILL helps so much.. legend
Very clear information. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. 10/10
Hey thanks Jose! Glad you found this helpful!
This man never dissapoint with tips and tricks and guide keep the grind love the content 💯
Haha thanks Carlos! I appreciate your support!
Her?
I know this has been said, but your videos are of such high quality and the most informative that I've seen in my quest to get a better understanding of this game. You really are vastly underrated and deserve way more subs than you currently have. Keep up the good work and I hope your channel continues to grow.
Hey thanks a lot! 😄 Glad you’re finding my content to be high quality. I do put a lot of work into it, so I’m glad it shows! I hope you’re enjoying Forbidden West 😁 Thanks for your comment!
Your videos are extremely well done and just blown away with the explanations and dedication to teaching us all👀🤘💯😃
Thank you! I'm glad you think they're well done 😄 I do seen a lot of time on them!
Love this channel. So helpful. Been playing the game recently and find myself on your page everyday.
Awesome! I’m glad to hear you’re finding my content helpful 😄 Thanks for your comment!
Finally getting around to playing this game for the first time, and I gotta say, your videos are insanely helpful. Really great content my dude, thanks a lot.
Hey thanks! Glad to hear you're finding my videos helpful 😁
Same I’m really finding it hard to hit off specific parts for missions I seem to always destroy everything lol
Yay. So happy you made all this good content for this game. I really enjoyed your content on the last one. Thank you.
Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying my videos 😁 I hope you’re having fun in Forbidden West!
I see the Arktix video. I click the Arktix video. endorphins are released you rock!
Haha thanks Mitch! Glad you liked it 😄
I didn't know that acid status doubles critical hit chance. Then it's meaby even better than frost
didn't know that either but makes sense. warrior bow users rejoice!
Is it better than frost?
@@wisekong6371It’s not better than frost because frost ignores machine armor and doubles your damage 100% of the time. I know I’m 10 months late but maybe for someone who reads this later 😂
Another insightful video. This weekend just got better. Thanks ArkTix.
Thanks Emeka!
Wow this is very helpful just finished zd started fw and it feels a little different 😰 hope all your update mentions got updated thanks
Hey thanks! Glad you found this helpful 😁 Yeah Forbidden West is quite a bit tougher than ZD for sure!

High quality?? Very Extremely high quality!!
Haha thanks AJ 😊
@@ArktixOfficial Of course good job!
Great content, as always! Have you had a video about ammos? I really enjoy watching your video and wants to try out different weapons and play style. However, whenever I see those expensive ammos, I always go back to my hunter bow 😂
What do you want to know more specifically ? Which Damage Types didn´t cover?
@@paristeta5483 Not damage types, but where to farm those weapon crafts like Volatile Sludge
Another great video! Best Horizon content out there, by far!
Thanks as always for your support, Brian! I appreciate it!
I hope you do a video on the stormbird and dreadwing next. Tip and trix would sure be appreciated for these demons of the sky!
Dreadwings are up next! I'll be doing Stormbirds as well for sure.
Thank you so much for the video i really needed help about all the damage types
You're very welcome! I'm glad to hear you found it helpful!
Very helpful information and tips! For completeness, you can also add a spear battle technique modified with elemental capsules.🎮
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful 😁
this explaination is awesome now i get what the random knockdown occurence
That's great to hear! I know you were still a bit confused about that from a previous video. I was wondering if this would clear it up for you.
@@ArktixOfficial Btw on the next video, can u dedicate mastering dreadwings
Dreadwings are actually up next! 😄
Wow I did not know that there is an impact dmg threshold for destroying components along with the tear Threshold.
Yup! It's kind of uncommon you'd have that happen, unless you're a Sharpshot Bow fanatic lol
Great video like always

That has helped me (from watching it) a bit.
I am new to this and am still not understanding all the tricks to upgrade weapons and how to use the coils.
I have a lot of them but don't see the way to apply them to my weapons.
Another great video dude! 👌
Thanks Moses! 😄
The content won me over, officially subscribed.
Thanks for your sub! Glad you’re enjoying my content 😄 New video tomorrow morning!
If you want frustrating mechanics the melee challenges are the way to go. The split second timing required for a lot of those are a VERY practiced art.
Thanks for all the vids you make!
You're very welcome! I'm glad you like them 😄
My question may be a bit premature, but I'd like to know how best to coil my Warden Sharpshot Bow to take advantage of the knockdown arrows
@@paristeta5483 thanks for the info
Another awesome video fella, thankyou again
Thank you! Glad you liked it 😄
While I thought your video was well produced and presented, I would suggest a disclaimer at the beginning about possible Spoilers for those of us that haven't played through.

Hey thanks Sophie! That's very kind 😄
What does the red icon mean? 9:55 I've seen it show up but and it seems to be some sort of engaged state. Does it actually affect combat at all?
it buffs all enemies that get this effect applied to them so they’ll deal more damage
Check out my reply to the OP!
Ahh, so I guess I dealt too much damage to the Stormbird chest component, because it said something like "elemental state treshold reached" and blew up. Did not find it afterwards. Good to know, more tear less damage next time.
I a NG+ and I learnt so much.
That’s great to hear! Glad you’re finding my videos helpful 😄

Still I learn....... awesome job Arktix
Thanks Matthew! Glad you could pick up some tips from this!
played Zero Dawn often, looking forward to Forbidden West... on pc... but don't like the $80 for it... may make an exception for it this time.. still undecided though..I am the type of player that like to venture into all the corners of a map,, not just the story line...
Yes! You got it exactly 👌
But you didn't talk about knockdown arrows. How reliable are they? Worth using?
This video is great, but am i alone with the feeling that they made the combat overly complicated?
Nope. I actually prefer HZD combat. Lure call and only 4 elements.
Thank for the video, very informative
Glad you found this helpful!
I wish the videos would fight lower level machines. I want to discover these big machines on my own as a sort of surprise
Acid thing makes Defiance a very good weapon due to extra bonus against Corroding enemy!
Yup good point!
Are the tear and impact damage thresholds separate, or combined? eg. can a use a 100% impact weapon to 'weaken' the component less than half way, then a 100% tear weapon to finish it. And also, what about the other types of damage?
Thats the sign of a machine saying, “ive fallen and can’t get up”. Or to quote a famous movie line, “ you got KTFO!” 😂
Lol 😂 I love it
Amazing video. Extremely helpful.

I'd guess viewing numbers were just too low compared to this kind of video. Shame, too. I was enjoying his mellow as he went through.
@@Ellerbeetimes100 yeah that could be it but I was really upset when i realised that there were no more episodes.
Hey Shoeless! Sorry about that 😕 Yeah it was like Ellerbeetimes said, they just weren't getting many views and I have limited time to work on videos, so I prioritized my guide.
How about highground damage ? Does it work and how? Is there a cap procentage wise to any damage tipe?
Hey Arktix have you seen some of the Arena record times. Slitherfang on Ultrahard at like 13 seconds... How is that even possible? It resists all the craftable traps too!
I have! Actually the UH Slitherfang (Rematch) record is 50-something seconds. I’ve got the #8 rank right now, but I want to get #1 😬 The trick with that particular challenge is to use piercing shredders and frost arrows.
Arktix, Quick Question please. Do OverDraw POTIONS (not coils) increase the hidden knockdown damage/power in weapons like the vindicator drill spike?
Good question! Yes, I believe from our testing over on Discord they do indeed boost knockdown power.
@@ArktixOfficial cool. thanks.
No problem!
in HZD I could just spam jump-and-shoot because I get infinite slow motion from it. Slow motion, or 'concentration', is nerfed in HFW. Just like traps and other things. I never thought I'd enjoy it more now that they made the gameplay more challenging.
Ah yeah, I miss that Hunter Reflexes skill, but I agree they force you to get better at combat now, which I think is positive.
There are still a couple of types of damages that I don't really understand what they maen
Ngl you casually slide in corrosive double crit hit chance and was like huh!!?!? 😯😯😯
