Most people probably do this already but when dodging ranged attacks if you just keep running in one direction you will almost always get hit. Machines aim for where you're going to be based on your speed and direction. Slide in one direction then roll in the opposite. The extra speed from sliding sends the tracking way off, and once the machine fires the trajectory is set. That's when you roll away.
Yeah what’s up with that, and now they should triple everything so either side you’ll get hit. I found running at an angle towards them helps dodge most items.
For the slaughterspine I struggled a lot with the plasma. Untill i found a armor specially for plasma resistance. All other armors have -ve resistance to plasma but utaru winterweave has highest resistance to plasma when fully upgraded. That helped me a lot and made the fight way easier
Glad to see you're still putting out HFW videos. Got about 300 hours in the game so far and still learning new things from your videos. Currently on ultra hard NG+ trying to finish that up before GOW comes out in a week or so. Looking forward to your GOW videos as well. By the way, your ultra hard tips videos and you're getting prepared for ultra hard videos are spot on. Like crafting more stamina and effects remover potions than health potions. More stamina and effect remover are way more important on ultra hard than they ever were on hard. Also, radial blast stays at my side for the ready 24/7. I haven't played the first game, but my wife introduced me to forbidden west a few weeks ago. I started on ultra hard (like an idiot) and I only found this channel AFTER I beat the main story XD
Also just finished a 1st play through on Ultra, but I played the hell out of he 1st game and was a bit cocky. That 1st boss fight humbled me real fast. Getting 1 shot by even the basic enemies was painfull, but got there in the end. Props for managing an ultra play through as a Horizon newbie.
@@MeSoyCapitan I did play the first game on ultra hard in 2018 but I just stealth cheesed everything. I'm glad I stuck with it for this game. All the updated combat mechanics felt really nice and it ended up being one of my favorite gameplay experiences yet.
That last tip about the Tripcasters and special arrows that don’t break stealth remind me of the good old 100-percent Chameolon exploit from Oblivion: You could attack enemies all day and they’d just keep blaming it on the wind, lol
The tripcaster instant brittle tactic is extremely useful against apex machines strong against frost in ultra hard. Without brittle, bigger machines are just too tanky to kill. For example, apex slaughterspine has 33k hp on ultra hard with x2.8 hp multiplier. They are way too long to kill without brittle. Thanks for the tip!
This one pertains to thunderjaws, if you perform a slide from the front and go under them you can access their underbelly with a warrior bow. Loves this one.
These are awesome! I'll have to try out the tripcaster one because I rarely use them in HFW compared to HZD. The shredders in the water trick is so interesting, intended or not. And the thing with the strikethrough arrows keeping you in stealth is how I harvested all the Fire/Frostclaw sacs I needed for my upgrades - I'd explode their shoulders from stealth and finish them off with other tricks once that knocked down their health a bit XD
Great video another one that most people probably know but wasn’t mentioned is very simple but also super helpful for camps and outposts Doing a strike from above actually does more damage then a silent strike so if your silent strike is maxed out with the infiltrator perk tree you can actually one shot rebel Champaign/leaders
I never hear anyone talking about this one but it’s a GREAT stealthy movement option: You can cancel a sprint into a slide pretty much immediately. You can also sprint from a crouch. Meaning you can go directly from a crouch into a slide which is an amazing option if you want to maintain stealth but need to quickly stealth kill a weaker enemy just outside of your range to keep from being detected. This was a thing in Zero Dawn as well!

Finished NG+ on UH and don't intend to do it again. Camps, outposts, cauldrons, and anything else not related to main quest to be picked up piecemeal at my own pace. Absolutely another in-depth fantastic HFW how to video. Gonna have to repeat watch it to catch on to the finer details. Working up to do Exploit again while grabbing the items necessary for final trophy-Facepaints, armor dyes, etc.
I missed this video at release. I'd never have noticed some of these on my own. The instant-elemental states with the tripcaster and the improvised traps (arrows and shredders) are wild.

Grass isn’t limited to its position, you are safe outside as long there’s grass between you and their eyes
Braced shot is highly overrated due to the explosion but i use double notch, focused shot doesn't work with powershots valor surge with double notch, i can go to a tremortusk finish it off and save valor for a scorcher which is instantly dead from 1 shot
Yep, double notch and a full powershots valor surge saves loads of resources farming Tremortusks... It's much better than braced shot! (Although braced shot looks cooler I suppose 😅)
I always craft when machines stun me momentarily with scream or bright light 😂Power shredder is great for machine susceptible to explosive damage but I'm cheap so I'd only use it sparingly with cheap shock shredder ammo. And the glitch with shredder gauntlets looks like a lot of fun to try! Again great content!
Gosh those last few tips were really interesting and I never would’ve figured them out myself lol. I’m not even currently playing this game but I still love watching your videos cause they’re just really well-made videos. Thank you again!
Maybe it is just me but despite the fact I love your videos, I’m waiting for the Targeting Arrows and Berserker strategy guide. I know they don’t work as they intended to or they don’t work at all, but someone, somewhere probably figured out how these 2 arrows work and how to use them effectively. I’m a machine-overriding strategy person and I would love to watch some tips and tricks from you on the matter.
Hmm unfortunately I really think those arrows and the berserker mechanic just don't work very well. I mean the targeting arrows help direct your overridden machines, so they work as intended, but that's really all they do. Hopefully in a future update they make berserker more interesting.
@@ArktixOfficial thanks so much for your reply. Worked as intended? I think you must know they are bugged. When you have a defense overridden machine and you use your arrows, they stay still and don’t attack the targeted machine while alloy just take the heat. Only works with aggressive machine and it is kind of useless on those because they are already engaging enemy machines or killing themselves. I really thought you had some tricks under the table. Thanks so much for your answer tho, I appreciate it.
Drenching yourself in purgewater to clear status effects is so genius and thematic that I'm half convinced thats the intended use of that status, especially with how... awkward it is on the offensive side of things.
I’ll be honest, I rarely even think about reloading while sliding. It’s another one of those time savers that Ive been trying to work into my play style. Also, that floating shredder trick almost a seems broken lol😅Many thanks for this tips video.
Ah yeah the truth is I don't reload while sliding all the time either. It's a lot to think about to try and use all of these tricks all the time, but they are useful sometimes! And yeah the floating shredders are pretty crazy lol
I've finished the game today. It was absolutely beautiful. Now we have to wait amother 3-5 years for the next one :(. I want to thank you for all your videos. U gave me great guidance throughout the game. I hope you will do the same for the next horizon.
Congrats on finishing it! And thanks 😄 Glad you found my content helpful! Yeah it's a bit sad we have to wait so long between games, but I expect they'll do multiple DLCs for Forbidden West, so we have that to look forward to in the meantime!
Thank you! Glad you appreciate that 🙂 I do try my best to answer as many as I can! Getting a bit tougher as the channel grows though. Anyway, thank you!
You totally should! They're my favorite 😄 And they're really strong when you know how to use them correctly. Check out my Shredder Gauntlet Master Class video if you haven't already 👍
Omg auto sprint will change my life. Always miss timing the sprint and end up crouching instead of sliding lol. 160 hours and I’m just learning this now
used to do concentration jumps all the time on pc bur now on controller im still not comfortable yet to do this (i got this game like 2 weeks ago and i LOVE it)
Glad you're having fun! Concentration jumps in Forbidden West are definitely much harder. They nerfed them pretty good since they removed the hunter reflexes skill.
Personally, I really find that the developers should create a consistent way to lure out machines that can dig underground. Slitherfangs and Burrowers aside, the way how Rockbreakers and Shellsnappers can lunge at you is kinda unfair. Also, could you do a video on Rollerbacks? I just can never seem to dodge all three of the shockwaves they create when they roll into the air and slam down on you. In fact, dodging just a single shockwave is hard!
Yeah I agree. There should be a good way to get them out of the ground, especially Shellsnappers. A Rollerback guide is on my list! Dodging those shockwave slams is definitely hard. Best to keep your distance in my experience, but that's hard too lol
I noticed that aim assist is never actually disabled. I'm guessing what the game calls "aim assist" is actually reticle magnetism, which gets disabled on higher difficulties, but your arrows will still curve slightly to hit things even with aim assist turned off. I've noticed this particularly when sliding or jumping. I actually only really noticed it because its caused me to miss a target a couple of times.
So actually that’s an intended mechanic that I explained in my 8 secret combat mechanics video. When you jump or slide and get slow motion while drawing, the game gives you a bit of extra aim assist, even on ultra hard where aim assist is disabled.
Not really for combat, but there is a skill that let you walk faster while holding heavy weapon. The skill also work with holding a powercell. So good for speedrunners.
Personally, I love stealing bat fangs and trex tails. Just get there, shoot advanced tearing arrow, pick up swag and run away. Don't even bother killing them.
take one shredder then add water like it looks like another ng+ play through after i've finished enjoying myself to much with the bioshock collection.😁
Great video man! I have almost 500 hours of gameplay and I didn't know about some of these tricks. Ps: Am I the only one who thinks the xp gain on large machines in FW is stupidly low? I mean, the max xp gained (even on heavy machines) is 5625, while in ZD for example, a thunderjaw or a Fireclaw gives us more than 11k XP. I would really like a better balance in the game's XP.
Great video, man! I love your stuff. It's super useful. I've been practicing the shredder instant charge up trick. Or trying to. (10:30 in the video) I still haven't gotten it to work. Did they patch it out? Or do I just need to practice more? L2+R2 on every catch. But I never get anything more than the normal single uptick on charging.
What I found odd was that even when I went into settings and selected "Always Run," it never worked. To run, I still need to hit the run key, which gets quite annoying because sometimes, when you hit it, it takes you out of the running, and you become dead.
I am a huge fan of zero dawn and I played it to death. I just started forbidden west a few days ago and because of my time with ZD I thought of myself to be pretty good at the game. but only from watching this did I realize how little I actually knew
Very good videos! Grats! Its just me or others too that these tips mostly can be used becasue the glitches in the game, i mean using gamemechanics. And thats ruin the gameplay. For me
Thanks! Yeah it's a bit weird exploiting glitches to use some of these tips. Doesn't really run the game in my opinion because none of them are super OP, and they're kind tricky to pull off for the most part, but I can see how it would break immersion for some players.
@@ArktixOfficial I'm gonna have to watch it a few times to learn everything. I considered myself as a keen amateur (even though played from release on both) but now have lowered that to noob 🤣 Love ya videos, always something new and even if not new, just explained so much clearer to follow. Your videos have taken my gameplay to a new level!
Thanks! And ok so when you scan a machine it will automatically highlight all components gold/yellow, but that will fade over time. To permanently mark them pink you need to be scanning them with the focus. Then you can mark one with triangle. Cycle through them with the D-pad. Hope that helps!
Apex slaughterspines won’t show up at night time, I’ve tried all the reload tricks I only got 1 spot uncovered so far and no near camp fires or shelters it’s the one by a town that only takes animal parts as cash
Oh so they did change the smoke bombs I will definitely be using those more now. 😮 By the way I’m still playing to this day they still haven’t patched out the shredder in the water.
Question: Arktix talks about invincibility frames but my question is, if you slide at the perfect moment but you do so directly into/ in range of a machines attack, will you still take damage? I ask because sometimes I seem to dodge at the right time but I still take hits. Some attacks are area effect I believe and can only be evaded by being out of range e.g. behemoth ground slam but sometimes I dodge but It looks like I didn’t make it far enough away from a clawstrider leap attack for example and so I take damage. So are invincibility frames genuinely invincible in all circumstances asides from area damage?
Good question. The invincibility frames do truly offer invincibility. You can dodge/slide directly through any attack, including AOE attacks, if you can time them just right. That being said, the window of invincibility frames is very short (8 frames for a dodge and 11 for a slide iirc). So, if you don’t time them right, you can easily take damage. This is especially true with AOE attacks because you will often not be able to get clear of their AOE within such a short timeframe. That’s probably why you have felt that invincibility frames don’t work against AOE attacks. They do, but the window of invincibility is very short.
If you want dodging to be easier, simply take up the weapon wheel to slow time for better timing as you can do it while it’s still open. Highly recommend making the slow effect to maximum in settings as it’s all around superior.
Yo I found out that if your in a plasma state or any element state and even if your about get hit by a fire claws boulder doing any valor surge will cancel out that damage because of the animation of the surge it’s pretty tight bro
Yeah you can't use those with a sharpshot bow, unfortunately. If you time a slide right, you can actually get quick draw to work, but it's tricky. Best to just plan that sharpshot bow shots will take longer.
This game needs its own controller. I feel like the steam controller would be perfect for it. Because you need console controller movement accuracy but you also need mouse firing accuracy for the bows. Using one set up or the other really is frustrating. A controller like the one steam made that has mouse like accuracy on one of the inputs would be perfect I think
They definitely went to the extreme when nerfing Braced Shot.... Yes, it was definitely overpowered, but it's one thing to nerf something to fix balancing issues, yet another to nerf it so hard that it becomes completely useless. That's pretty much what they did to Braced Shot, & it's a crying shame. They SHOULD have listened to the community & fixed this, by restoring at least a bit of it's damage output. We all told them they took it too far, but they wouldn't listen...
weapon quick swaps are mapped to 1-6 keys by default. I just have my sun scourge on slot 2 and then tap 1-2 in quick succession whenever I want to do the keyboard equivalent for quick swap on my elemental arrows.
You really like shredders, huh. With all these tips on how to get better dps, it feels like your fights take more time. Is this the case or am I just perceiving it to take longer because I'm not in the action myself?
The fights I show in videos? I wouldn't say these tricks give you the fastest possible way to kill something. Some help with that, others are more of interesting ways to do something that you may not have thought of. Maybe I'm not understanding your question?
Hey! Can someone please explain me what does the “angry” state to enemies? I mean when red smoke comes out of them and the symbol above them is kinda like a skull.
I have a question about spike throwers. Mine don't always drill or explode, like almost 50% of the time. What am I missing? And I almost always overdraw
So there's different types of spikes on each spike thrower. I'm guessing you're only using one type (maybe the impact ones?). Drill spikes drill, explosive spikes explode, etc. I have a whole Spike Thrower master class video you can check out.

Yep, double notch and a full powershots valor surge saves loads of resources farming Tremortusks... It's much better than braced shot! (Although braced shot looks cooler I suppose 😅)
that trip caster stealth freeze, and the sharpshot piercing human arrow not alerting the machines is dope, I need to give that a go.
I knew almost none of this tricks. That is why I love this kind of videos,
Cool! Glad you were able to learn a bunch of new tricks!
Thanks! And nice. Opportunistic crafting for the win 😄
Gosh those last few tips were really interesting and I never would’ve figured them out myself lol. I’m not even currently playing this game but I still love watching your videos cause they’re just really well-made videos. Thank you again!
Hey thanks! Glad you like those tips 😄 And I'm happy to hear you enjoy my content and feel it's good quality 😁 Thanks for your comment!
LOL that trick with the Tripcasters is CRAZY awesome!! Finally, Tripcasters can actually be useful! 😁
PS5 adaptive triggers with the different weapons in this game really put a smile on my face
Yeah it's pretty cool!
Hey man, good job on replying to comments. Don't see too many creators do that these days
Thank you! Glad you appreciate that 🙂 I do try my best to answer as many as I can! Getting a bit tougher as the channel grows though. Anyway, thank you!
I found myself improving in combat after watching several vids. Thanks Arktix
Your videos are always so amazing and informational, thank you. I learn so much.
Hey thanks! Glad you find them helpful 😄
A lot of these are really clever, great tips!
Thanks! Glad you like them!
I've never really used the shredder gauntlets but man do they look fun to use. I'm gonna use them in my next playthrough
160 hours and I’m just learning this now
Glad you found that tip helpful!
used to do concentration jumps all the time on pc bur now on controller im still not comfortable yet to do this (i got this game like 2 weeks ago and i LOVE it)
Glad you're having fun! Concentration jumps in Forbidden West are definitely much harder. They nerfed them pretty good since they removed the hunter reflexes skill.
Just started my 5th play through. Maybe I should just watch all of Arktix's videos again...
Hmm 🤔 Yes...yes I think that would be the smart move 😄😉
I forgot how satisfying it was the jump and hit the highlighted parts and see them shed off
Personally, I really find that the developers should create a consistent way to lure out machines that can dig underground.
The last ones are 🔥🔥🔥 i m gonna test this today. Thanks a lot
You’re very welcome! Glad you liked those 😄 Hope you have fun with them!
That first tip also works with precision arrows, but it requires a little more timing
Ah yeah I probably should have showed it with precision arrows too. It does work like you say!
Smarter, not harder.👍
I feel like I need to sign up for your college classes, this is simply amazing
Haha thanks! Glad you're enjoying my content 😁
Just started playing the game and it's really awesome. Thanks for the tips and tricks video, I very much appreciate it more than you can imagine...💯👍
It still aggravates me that they nerfed braced shot to the point people don't even want to use it anymore.
Yeah I wish they hadn't nerfed it so hard 😕 It's such a fun WT to use, but like you said, no one really wants to use it anymore.
take one shredder then add water like it looks like another ng+ play through after i've finished enjoying myself to much with the bioshock collection.😁
Lol yes something like that 😂 Hope you have fun with it!
Thanks! Glad you could pick up some new tips 😄 And yeah I agree the xp gain seems pretty low.
I do not thing it was every in the game, maybe a left over from the Beta.
thanks you so much!😁
I am one of the worst horizon forbidden west players of all time and thanks to your videos I am not that bad anymore 😁
What I found odd was that even when I went into settings and selected "Always Run," it never worked. To run, I still need to hit the run key, which gets quite annoying because sometimes, when you hit it, it takes you out of the running, and you become dead.
I will have to try that elemental dodge thing, especially when fighting a sluaghterspine.
Yeah give it a try! It's tricky, but satisfying when you get it.
I am a huge fan of zero dawn and I played it to death. I just started forbidden west a few days ago and because of my time with ZD I thought of myself to be pretty good at the game. but only from watching this did I realize how little I actually knew
There's definitely a lot of new mechanics in HFW!
Damn, I wish I had seen these before I completed my UH playthrough
Ah man! Sorry I didn't have it out sooner. Hopefully it can be helpful on a New Game+ playthrough 👍
#Legend Your videos are like no others, thanks a mill man!
Hey thanks! Glad you’d liked this 😄
@@ArktixOfficial I'm gonna have to watch it a few times to learn everything. I considered myself as a keen amateur (even though played from release on both) but now have lowered that to noob 🤣
Love ya videos, always something new and even if not new, just explained so much clearer to follow. Your videos have taken my gameplay to a new level!
Awesome! I love hearing that I've helped someone 😄 Glad you're finding my content useful. I hope it's making the game more fun for you!
Another great video, thanks!
Thanks Brian! Glad you liked it!
The strike through precision arrows stealth thing seems like a bug. I hope they keep it though to make some components easier to farm 😃.
Awesome content thank you so much. One question though, How did you highlight all of the components on the machine at once?
Thanks! And ok so when you scan a machine it will automatically highlight all components gold/yellow, but that will fade over time. To permanently mark them pink you need to be scanning them with the focus. Then you can mark one with triangle. Cycle through them with the D-pad. Hope that helps!
I must have never noticed. Thanks
No problem!
Thank you SO much for these tips.....
You’re very welcome! Hope you find them helpful 😄
Just started and oh boy it’s beautiful game !
Awesome! Yeah it is I love it 😄 Hope you’re enjoying it!
Apex slaughterspines won’t show up at night time, I’ve tried all the reload tricks I only got 1 spot uncovered so far and no near camp fires or shelters it’s the one by a town that only takes animal parts as cash
Damn you just taught me a lot. Thanks 🙏🏽
Awesome! Glad you found this helpful 👍
Is there one of these master-classes for the OG HZD?
Big HZD fan, but not big enough to buy a PS5. I've been doing my homework on HFW by watching your vids before the PC release. :)
Awesome! Hope you've been finding the videos helpful 😁 PC release in less than 2 weeks!
Love the quick tempo. Sound track was bitch’n too
Thanks you! Glad you enjoyed the video 😄
Wow!!!! These are awesome!
Glad you think so!
On PC in order to dodge you can also double tap wasd buttons
Oh so they did change the smoke bombs I will definitely be using those more now. 😮
By the way I’m still playing to this day they still haven’t patched out the shredder in the water.
@@ArktixOfficial great thanks man, truly amazing channel you’ve got here, you gonna be a star one day 💫
@@i_GARTYx No problem! And thank you 😁 I appreciate your support 🙏🏼🙂
If you want dodging to be easier, simply take up the weapon wheel to slow time for better timing as you can do it while it’s still open. Highly recommend making the slow effect to maximum in settings as it’s all around superior.
Ah yes that's a good tip as well!
Yo I found out that if your in a plasma state or any element state and even if your about get hit by a fire claws boulder doing any valor surge will cancel out that damage because of the animation of the surge it’s pretty tight bro
I said that wrong… the plasma blast after the plasma blast state if you do your surge before it blows up it won’t blow you up😅
Yes! Good point. Valor surge animations do indeed make you invincible for a moment.
do you know you could throw multiple shredder gaulet disc while you are far from an enemy and catch them
This is gold.
🤘🌞🏹✨❄️🍻
Thanks Diverdjent 😄
Hello. Can you make guide of on how to kill each monster. What to target 1st. I'm rooting for you
@ArktixOfficial great vdo but concentration jump and sliding draw don't work for sharpshot bow? Any advice?
The smoke bomb trick to resurface turtles only worked for me in the arena. It won't work anywhere else in the game weirdly.
You need to be pretty much on top of them, which can be tough out in the wilds.
Could you explain the quick swap for the keyboard please?
weapon quick swaps are mapped to 1-6 keys by default.
Hey Arktix! Is the weapon swap for advanced arrows available on PS4?
You mean the weapon quick swap setting? Yeah it definitely should be.
@@ArktixOfficial Ok thanks :)
I problem!
I don't know if this is called tips or tricks 😅 but I noticed that my HP turns into a yellow bar if I drink the potion while my HP bar is filled.
Hey buddy, I think the tripwire trick only takes the built-in chance to instantly freeze and doesn't consider coils :(
Sometimes the game bugs out a bit with RNG. If you force quite the game and restart it the instant chances should start working again properly.
Can you please help me!
How do you overdraw your bow? Is there a specific mechanic or skill you have to lern because I can't do it
Please help
Most bows require that you upgrade them at least 1 level before the overdraw perk becomes unlocked.
Do you have a video with everything that was nerfed and buffed?
Nerfed and buffed when? There were some weapon rebalances very early on, but nothing has been nerfed or buffed since then.
How to get the extra little X when you aim in bows ??
That’s called overdraw. Most weapons have it, but you need to upgrade them at least 1 level first.
Mam everyone says the shredder gauntlets are the best weapon in game. In my opion they are the worst. Takes to mich to use properly
