    Pro tip: change to story difficulty for the arena weapons, so you dont have to spend multiple frustrating days of grinding it and instead can do it in an hour or less. As someone who values their time and prefers to have fun in video games, this helped so much!

    NGL, I avoided these videos for so long because I found the thumbnails so cringe, but now I totally regret it. These are by far the most informative Horizon videos on RUclips. Hands down, no contest.
    Added bonuses includes - no awful time wasting intro - doesn't delay the actual content further by an extended plea to like and subscribe, only asks after presenting helpful content deserving of a like - effective use of chapter markers make it easy to return to a previously watched video and jump to the section you're looking for - proper pronunciation of words like "icon" or "armor".
    Every video I've watched is loaded with high quality tips/advice/loadouts that has been new to me and has improved my experience with the game. Well done, you have my like and my subscription.

    The Tenakth Tactician actually has some of the highest damage potential of any armor in the game if you throw the Stealth Ranged and Low Health Ranged weave on it. Since it has the Mounted Archer buff built in, making this the literal highest damage potential you can possibly have in the game. That is literally every damage buff you can possibly have from armor. Combine this with the proper weapon build w as many 25% damage buffs as you can and a Valor Surge & you can kill most foes with just 1 shot if you do things right.

    I find it hilarious and comforting to see you having the exact same weapons in your weapon wheel as I do (except for one, which is my 'interchangable' slot). I don't agree with a lot of coil configurations you use, which is fine. This difference is mostly because of our different playstyles. Like, I put my crits and agility coils on ascenders return, use shocked damage coils on my sharpshot for synergy and the corrosive version on carja bane. It makes me able to utilize the status effects in my favour instead of seeing it as a disadvantage. I like how situational coils shape my playstyle. This game gives you that freedom and I love it.
    For the spike throwers: Overdraw coil works for both impact AND explosive damage giving it a higher damage boost compared to explosive or normal damage coils ; hope this helps
    I love the informative video's you post.
    I've invested a lot of hours in research, just like you, and find it interesting to see where our choices overlap and differ.
    I have learned a lot watching your video's. Thank you

    • @ArktixOfficial
      @ArktixOfficial  2 года назад +3

      @Sem Bohle Glad to hear we have a similar loadout! You have some very interesting coil configurations. Thanks for sharing those! I’ll have to give some of them a try. Shock damage on your sharpshot seems very unique. Could you maybe explain your thinking there a bit more? I like the suggestion for overdraw coils on spike throwers. Of course, that assumes you take the time to overdraw most/all of your spike throws. I agree it’s pretty cool how much variety we have to coil things differently and customize weapons for different playstyles. It does make it tough to make recommendations though! I want to do a video on “the best ways to cool every weapon”, but as you know there’s so many possibilities that the video could easily either be really limited in scope or really long and boring lol
      I’m glad you’re enjoying my videos and learning something from them! That’s definitely my goal with this channel. Thanks!

      @@ArktixOfficial when I use the Forgefall, I need to be careful with the amount of ammo I use because it is expensive. So having extra setup time is necessary, that way I don't waste ammo. My main weapon is the Ancestor's return, so I often get my enemies shocked or corroded. Seeing the stun as a byproduct, I can make my attacks more efficient to use said stun. For example a high damage weapon that already needs time for a setup can be used . I got three purple shocked enemy damage coils, so I decided to put them to use (it also helps that the bow already has +25% damage boost to shocked enemies). With two remaining slots I use sharpshot tear arrows. I got a reasonable amount of time when enemies are shocked so I could shoot components off for high damage and extra resources or I can use the blast shot with normal plasma arrows (that deal the same amount of damage as advanced arrows) for raw damage .
      Corrosive is kind of the same story. Corrosion needed a use. I saw that Carja Bane had a +25% damage boost to corroded enemies and decided to boost it with two purple corrosion coils and 3 damage coils.
      The rest is history.
      My configuration for the legendary gauntlet shredder is my pride and joy. Two agility coils, two crit chance (making crits hit 45% total, with a x2 multiplier) and one component tear +25% makes it viable for any situation. Crits for damage (I've seen it do 1000+ damage on a good throw, no surges) and when the explosion happens every component comes off.
      Because of all the movement you have to do for the catch, I often get annoyed at Aloy for being stuck at a crouch after a slide. By jumping out of the slide you negate the crouch. This is often the prime moment to retailliate. The Agility coils give this moment a use.
      The weapon is not affected by the power shot Valor surges, so you can stack the status effects (preferably shock) untill they are active and then use a different weapon that does use the valor e.g. sharpshot or spike thrower for damage.
      For the overdraw, yes I overdraw almost all throws. The only sad part about the coils is that it doesn't work with splitting spike. (I usually use my stamina for other weapons so that is no problem for me)
      I'm going to test if it works with propelled spike, but don't expect it to. Otherwise it is still able to utilize it's potential with the powershot valor surges, which can sometimes make it outperform my sharpshot bow.

    • @ArktixOfficial
      @ArktixOfficial  2 года назад +3

      @Sem Bohle Oh shocked DAMAGE coils on your sharpshot bow! Sorry, I wasn't reading your original post carefully enough. I though you said you were putting regular shock coils on your sharpshot bow. My mistake! And thanks for explaining that. Yeah that make a lot of sense and sounds very strong. I like your focus on resource efficiency!
      I like your coil set for the Ancestor's Return too. I think I'll have to give that a try! Thanks for sharing all of this! Not sure if Discord is your thing, but we have a pretty cool group over on my Discord server if you want to join. We talk about stuff like this a lot. No pressure, but you'd be more than welcome! • @skins4thewin

    For the Tenakth Vanquisher you're better off using a Stealth Ranged weave in one of those slots and use that armor for a stealth playstyle for absolute maximum damage. Combining both Low Health Ranged, Stealth Ranged and a Valor Surge can kill most enemies in just one or two shots.
    You can also extract multiples of weaves that come on armor by upgrading an armor to get the weave off it, selling the armor and then re-buying it fresh from the vendor who used to sell it, then rinse lather repeat. It will reappear at the shop again once sold. That way you don't have to remove important weaves from other armors to use it on another, can have multiples. Only armor you can't do this with are ones earned thru quests or ones bought at the Arena.

    Great work...again. Loving how different this is from most videos about legendary gear...particularly 1) how you critically evaluate and makes cases for your preferred gear and 2) you're not afraid to say when purple gear makes more sense. Is there a reason you made recommendations about coils on this vid versus your previous ones? Either way, it's helpful.

      @Furious Styles Thanks! I’m glad you appreciate the depth I go into. I do put a lot of time into researching all the content for these videos to make them as useful and accurate as I can. As for recommending coils, I did that because I got a number of comments asking about coils and I figured it would be useful info this time around, especially since people are kind of optimizing their loadout in the endgame. In retrospect I probably should have done that in the previous gear videos too, but live and learn! 😊

    8:20
    Sharpshot Bows have a base 5% critical hit chance so with the three 15% critical hit chance coils you total out to a 50% critical hit chance :)
    Sharpshot Bows have a base critical hit damage multiplier is 2.5x which is actually pretty good in itself.
    After the 3 coil slots are used up, the remaining 2 coil slots can be used for long range damage or impact damage coils. If you don't like situational coils - very rare impact coils go very well for the 2 remaining coil slots.
    Compared to 5x very rare 25% situational damage coils, which is 125% damage boost. It doesn't make those coils are useful for active combat gameplay as you have to be at a long range, at high ground and in stealth to take full advantage of the 125% boost.
    So coiling a Sharpshot Bow with critical hit chance/damage is a pretty good idea :)
    Edit: made some changes after some testing

      @K G Hey thanks for sharing this! I actually just checked and I don’t have a single critical hit damage coil. Can you believe it? I kill a lot of machines, so I feel like I should have at least one! You haven’t found them for sale anywhere, have you?
      Anyway, I agree with you that your suggested set of coils is more optimal. I honestly didn’t even know critical hit damage coils existed. I’ll have to keep an eye out for those. Thanks for sharing this!

      @@ArktixOfficial My pleasure :) I've enjoyed playing around with the weapons in this game a lot and min maxing the damage. Happy to contribute and interact!
      So I have 3 rare 15% critical hit damage coils. Which I think I bought from merchants or got them from firegleam/metal flower chests. Can't recall which ones exactly. But if I find the vendors that do sell them, I'll reply to this thread. :)
      The rare critical hit damage coils don't seem that worthy, hopefully we get very rare 25% critical hit damage coils in the DLC to make them worthy of filling the 2 remaining slots on Forgefall :)

    I didn't like warrior bows too much until I began playing with Carja's Bane. I like combining it with burning enemy damage coils, then using the fire option from the bow and switching it to normal arrows once the machine is burning. I slap a melee follow-up coil on it too, and I'll usually hit the machine at least once when I get it burning to pile on the damage. It's amazing how quickly that bow can bring down a machine when you're speed firing arrows at it.

  • @SirSpuddington
    @SirSpuddington 2 года назад +5

    An alternative coil setup for the Death-seeker's Shadow is to spec it into crit chance/damage to take advantage of its native crit perks. I use two 15% crit chance coils and one 15% crit damage coil, boosting total crit chance up to 35% and crit damage to 40%. About every 3rd arrow will be a crit, which means you're almost guaranteed to get at least one with each triple notch. Combine that with 25% component tear and 12% impact damage coils and you've got a really strong all-purpose damage dealer.
    It's really fun to put it together with the Tenakth Tactician armor to take advantage of maxed-out Mounted Archer too. If you shock a machine (I've found the base shock value for the Shadow's shock arrows is good enough in most situations), you get a very spicy stat stack: 35% crit chance + 40% crit damage + 25% shocked enemy damage + 15% overdraw damage + 50% damage from Mounted Archer. Knocking a machine down with a mounted Clawstrider heavy attack instead of shocking it gives you even more by swapping the shocked enemy damage for 40% knockdown damage. Super fun!

  • @quickNir
    @quickNir 2 года назад +2

    A few comments (sorry I wrote a book!).
    First, with regard to coils, one point that I didn't see you say, but I might have missed, is that some types of coils seem to boost *everything* in my testing. For example, Agility coils, Concentration coils, and I believe overdraw coils, boost just not damage (including, I think, tear) but also elemental buildup. This has a big impact on how you want to coil some weapons depending on whether you care about multiple categories of things, and leads to me disagreeing with some of your coiling decisions. For example, the top coil pick on Ancestor's Return is the purple Agility coil. It's a 15% bonus to damage, shock buildup, and acid buildup. Secondary choices would be blue agility/concentration or purple shock coils depending on your priorities. For DSS, the 25% component tear is great, but 12% tear is just not worth it, when you can get 10% overdraw or concentration that will apply to impact damage, tear damage, and shock buildup (also, I wouldn't put agility on DSS as they're better saved for AR, and it's a bit more annoying to make those precision shots while jumping).
    Second, with regards to knockdown, I was surprised to see your recommendations. You mentioned knockdown in the context of Thunderbolt, but not the Vindicator. So I went back and tested: ruclips.net/video/vI3ZMzvHR5s/видео.html. Even a maxed Thunderbolt with 3 Knockdown power coils, scores barely any knockdowns on this Apex Slaughterspine. On the other hand, Vindicator with 3 knockdown coils, a single drill spike to the leg is almost always going to knock it down (though you do need to wait a bit). So I think your recommendations here are a bit backwards. You can see here just how powerful Vindicator is; I barely have to fight the Slaughterspine at all, just one drill spike to the knee -> knockdown -> 2x splitting spike, repeat.
    For the shredders generally, I think the emphasis towards the knockdowns in the discussion and coiling doesn't really make sense. AR shock shredders are one of the top ways in the whole game to kill machines while barely giving them any chance to move. Shock resistance, etc doesn't matter, this Apex TJ still barely gets to do anything while I spam shock shredders ruclips.net/video/I84pUQUUOis/видео.html. For this reason also, I don't think Thunderbolt serves any purpose except as a stopover to AR. Shock/Acid shredders do almost as much damage as advanced shredders, and the difference will mostly be made up by the extra coils, and of course the elemental buildup is incredibly valuable. I do agree that tear shredders are not great though.
    For outfits, I think if you're talking about low health stuff, may as well talk about the Tenkath Tactician, which will you get up to a monster 50% damage bonus mounted. For most players I think accessing mounted bonuses is going to be less annoying than low health ones. Also, I honestly do think that the Thunder Warrior is a bit overrated. The Nora Valiant gives you both Stamina skills on the armor itself, which effectively frees up a weave spot, which can go to something like Potent Medicine. With Nora Valiant I already never run out of concentration, Heavy Weapon+ is pretty niche (and I don't think it applies to the boltblaster). So, you have to really think Stealth Ranged is pretty amazing to prefer Thunder Warrior, I think; Valiant is just more versatile.
    For the overall gear, I ended up evicting sharpshots from my main loadout. If you think about it, outside of power shots valor surge, and braced shots, they don't give you all that much. Less damage than the spike thrower, and more awkward to use except at very long range.

      @ArktixOfficial  2 года назад

      @Nir Friedman As promised, I'm back to fully respond to this! Sorry for the delay. Thanks again for all your thoughts here and the extensive testing you shared. So this is pretty cool because I'm working on a coils/weaves video right now and I've been doing some more testing regarding the points you brought up.
      So I agree it looks like certain coils like agility and concentration damage do indeed boost everything like you said, including elemental buildup. Since I've confirmed this for myself, I agree with you that agility coils make a lot of sense for the AR, primarily for using shock shredders. I agree with you on the DSS, too. My preference would be concentration instead of overdraw coils since it's a bit more versatile. Personally, I still like an agility coil or two on my DSS. I actually don't find it too difficult to land shots while jumping or sliding, especially if I activate concentration at the same time (further stacking the effects from a concentration damage coil!). I actually find it a little harder to land precision shots with a shredder gauntlet, but I think that's down to personal preference.
      You have a very good point about knockdown coils on drill spikes. I should have mentioned that as an option. It does seem to be more effective than shredders. However, while watching your video where you were testing it, I noticed you didn't use the Triple Shredder Weapon Technique. If you do this, you of course have 3x the chance for a knockdown to be triggered because you have 3x the shredder hits. I find this works particularly well on Slitherfangs, but the drill spike approach works well too. Also, I noticed you were focused on hitting the leg/foot. I'd be curious to hear what your experience is here, but I've found there doesn't seem to be an increased chance for knockdown when trying to use knockdown coils on a leg. I think it's still true (like in HZD) that dealing damage to a leg will have a higher chance of trigger a knockdown than other parts of the body, but I haven't seen an increased effectiveness by using knockdown coils on a leg. In other words, I think you can apply knockdown coiled ammo to any part of the body. I've also tested the Knockdown Shot Weapon Technique on machine legs and the rest of their body and there doesn't seem to be a difference. So you can use Knockdown Shot on any part of the body with equal effectiveness as far as I can tell.
      I've also been gravitating more towards the shock shredders on the AR and leaving my Thunderbolt in my inventory, so I think I agree with you here too. Something I didn't fully realize until recently was that the shock explosions won't destroy components, instead they tear them off, so that makes a big difference to me. I'd be curious to know what difficulty you're playing on in your testing video so I can compare to my own experience with the shock shredders.
      You have an interesting point about the Thunder Warrior and Valiant as well. I assumed the Heavy Weapon+ skill applied to boltblasters, but it looks like I was wrong about that. I just did some testing and I saw no difference. I'll have to test some more how I might set up the Nora Valiant as an endgame outfit to replace the Thunder Warrior. The biggest problem in my mind is the lower damage resistance stats, but honestly, I don't take that much damage normally as I've gotten more used to the machines' attack patterns and how to dodge them. Maybe giving up the extra damage resistances is worth it for a more optimized outfit in the Nora Valiant. Thanks for suggesting this!
      It's funny you mention removing the Sharpshot bow from your loadout. I've actually started taking it out a lot too in favor of the Vindicator for drill spikes. I think Braced Shot is pretty important for a big chunk of the game, but in the endgame I find myself using it less and less and instead relying on shredder explosions. Maybe I'll have to do an updated endgame build video at some point!
      Overall, thanks a lot for all your comments here. I'll be doing more focused videos on coils and good ways to coil each weapon. This one was mainly a overview of all the endgame gear and I threw the coil recommendations in there as an extra. Maybe I should have left them out until I had done more research first. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your findings! And by the way, if you'd like to join my Discord server we talk about stuff like this over there. Would love to have you there! I would also recommend Spread Blast for a Boltblaster build as the shots can Crit. It works VERY well with a couple Crit coils on the weapon and the Crit Boost Valor Surge. Against the toughest machines tho it does indeed seem to work better when using Sustained Burst as this keeps them stun locked most of the time, but you HAVE to freeze them first. You definitely want to always freeze first when using boltblsters or anything else that doesn't aim well.

    Arktix, another great video and by far the best youtube channel for HZD Forbidden West content. Could you do a video on a rebel camp build/killing humans build? I find myself using more of my sharpshot ammo infiltrating rebel camps and outposts compared to hunting thunderjaws/tremortusks with Ancestors Return where I can replenish my ammo after each throw. I am guessing its a hunter/warrior bow build with a stealth outfit/weave. I want to fire lots of shots at human enemies without wasting a ton of ammo! I'd use this build to work through all posts/camps in one session/defeat human enemies.

      Hey thanks Alex! I do have a video like that on my list, but I probably won’t get to it for a little bit. To give you some suggestions now, I generally like using strikethrough precision arrows on a Sharpshot Bow (Delta or Regalla’s Wrath) and stealth tactics to take down rebels. I start by sneaking around and headshotting as many rebels as I can with this arrows, which on VH or lower, can generally kill them in one shot. The Stealth Stalker Valor Surge is helpful as well. I stay stealthy until I can’t anymore, then I do a combination of melee, hitting resonator blasts with a Hunter Bow, and regaining stealth to hit more strikethrough precision arrows shots. Shredders are also surprisingly good on rebels if you can land them. Explosive bombs on a blastsling are helpful too.

    Hell, theres even a blue weapon that offers something that none of the other weapons do. The Spinthorn spike thrower has the highest knockdown in the game, and I suspect it might also have the best DoT of any spikethrower, though I've not actually maxed out the higher drillspike throwers to compare yet, but inherent 40% DoT boost before coils even come into it will be tough to beat. Only way I can see the purples and legendaries competing is if their base damage is so much higher that the 40% doesn't come into play.

    So I’m just getting back into the game after a year, trying to farm some top tier upgrade mats and get some of the last top tier NG weps I need, so forgive me if some of this info is in one of your vids somewhere already
    Just curious, as I know a bunch of stuff has been balanced/nerfed and whatnot after all this time, like braced shot ik was… so about skykiller for example, I remember at one point I saw people saying the spike trap ability with explosive spikes was insanely powerful, but you seem to only use splitting spike, which I never even got as it seemed underutilized by a lot of people. Was spike trap nerfed or is there some other reason you prioritize splitting spike? Similarly, I had always used blast forge with the clip dump ability I forget the name of that you use, but I used it with explosive bolts, and you appear to only use the regular bolts. It’s true I am starved for blast paste, is that why you seem to avoid them entirely? Also, that instant brittle Sun scourge build seems awesome, I had been running acid/fire coils on it (I haven’t done any of the supremely tedious farms for legendary upgrades yet so I only have a couple coil slots) and just using elite canister rope caster for freeze, as you can only carry so much volatile sludge at a time and canisters are so much cheaper. Is it really that much more worth it to use advanced freeze arrows before you have a full instant brittle setup running, or should I stick with canisters for now?
    I went bankrupt trying to farm upgrade mats and had to farm tremortusk tusks for some shards just to upgrade and buy blastpaste for ammo and traps lol, never used shredders but I do have ancestors return, wondering if I should focus on upgrading that before Sun scourge/forge fall or armors for long term ammo efficiency so I can start building up a reserve of stuff for dlc… it seems like weapon abilities aren’t worth it on shredders btw since you don’t conserve ammo with them?
    Unfortunately I don’t remember whether I spared or killed regalla, but either way I must have sold her gear bc I sold a ton of stuff to try and afford upgrades and coils lmao, RIP
    Sorry for the 21 questions, awesome content btw, wish I found your channel when I was originally playing lol, thinking about doing an ultra hard run on NG+ for the new legendaries after dlc tho so I’ll be sure to utilize it then haha

    That is not an advisable strategy for the Sun Scourge. It only takes a few Advanced Frost arrows to freeze pretty much any enemy in the game, so you are kind of wasting those slots on the Instant Brittle Chance coils. It will never proc before you're already going to inflict freeze anyway. You should definitely be using more Frost coils instead. I'd recommend having the instant brittle chance coils on your Hunter Bow that you're using most of the time as it will proc very often.

    As someone who isn't rushing through the main questline, I already got the Death Seeker's Bow and after getting access to Tenakth territory, I completed only the Broken Sky and the Kulrut(I haven't yet brought the function back to the Base though). After that, I completed the Salvage contract that gives you the Vindicator Spike Thrower, spammed it in the Arena to get my first legendary weapon. I'm currently working towards these prioritised gear: Forgefall, Sun Scourge, Nora Thunder Warrior and the Utaru Winterweave
    They aren't necessarily "late game" gear except for some like the Skykiller of course. There are some difficulties involved in attempting all that early on like not getting Tiderippers spawning. Everything was done on Very Hard

    Tenakth Vanquisher is very fun to use, but I feel guilty, the low health bonuses can feel like a crutch at times. Damage boost is very high though.
    Utaru seems useless for anything except stealth IMO, as Carja is basically the same outfit but with better bonuses for combat. Nora Thunder is probably easiest to use. Carja Elite makes it more viable to use traps in combat, which is effective against aggressive enemies, shame traps are so expensive! The Oseram outfit surprised me on Ultra Hard as a very viable and fun playstyle, as the spear charges very quickly and Resonators stagger enemies. Tactician IMO not as good on UH due to abundance of Apex machines but you can still bring a Clawstrider to a fight and watch it solo all the machines for you, lol.

    With outfits there is a really good one you didn't cover, Utaru Winterweave is incredibly good.
    It fits really well with almost every weapon type and is more versatile then the others believe it or not. Silent Strike Heal will overheal your health which is a great initiator. You don't need heavy weapon movement when you can initiate with the Bolt Blaster. Low Health Builds are done better with this due to being incredibly hard to spot and more Smoke Bombs. Since you're in Stealth having Stealth Range coils let you boost damage even more.
    With Hunter Bows this boosts damage helping you do more damage while ripping off the components you want to loot.
    With Sharpshot this boosts damage and helps you remove components you don't want to loot.
    Bolt Blaster's Sustained Burst can empty the entire clip to start.
    Shredder Gauntlets can be chained/exploited to never detonate to not cost any resources complimenting any build.
    Spikes and Blast Slings are another great initiator against medium health machines.
    Warrior Bow's, especially Melee Follow Up obviously work great with getting into melee range.
    Trip Casters naturally work with this.
    Part of the difficulty in Forbidden West is machines which have side/rear parts tend to be only visible when you're in those positions. Your damage will be lower if you're not ripping out parts so head on fights tend to be much slower and harder.

    Is it better to keep using your mostly/fully upgraded purples and upgrade the legendaries as they sit in your inventory or should you equip the legendaries and then upgrade as you use them?
    I feel like the former would be better cause weapons, especially the accuracy part of bows, can suck when not upgraded. Plus it seems like you get to use the purple gear you upgraded more and make all that effort more worth while.

    I wish I made tutorials long ago when Skyrim first came out. Since then I havnt played a game below hardest difficulty, however, this was first game I had to really think on custom and highest difficulty. But this game is so deep with combat that it made me appreciate game more since I had to properly use every skill and arrow type and plan out battles l. I am Xbox die hard but bought PlayStation just to play this, god of war, uncharted, and last of us. And horizon is Definetly in my top 5 games of all time. I think the go bad is best I’ve ever seen in a rpg. There’s no game that comes close with variety and the fluidity. Obviously there’s games with hundreds of weapons and spells but there combat lacks. Elden ring is only game that could argue is better in this game category

    • @ArktixOfficial

      Good question. So, the merchants have a buyback section, but it only allows you to buy back the last 30 items sold. If it's an outfit that's sold from regular merchants, you should be able to buy it again now that you don't have it in your inventory anymore, but if it's from a quest, unfortunately, there's no way to get it back except for doing a NG+ playthrough.
