Yano as someone who grew up with ZERO people around that were interested in music so now try and encourage my daughter with my instruments, I can't imagine the pride your Dad must have in having a son that can play like you do. Awesome stuff. Looking forward to seeing that Oswald! One day I may have the patience it takes to get something so bespoke haha
What a lovely comment Paul, as regards my Dad being proud. Thank you man, I appreciate that. I hope your daughter takes an interest. But if it ends up not being her thing, so be it. Maybe the grandkids one day 😊
Paul. Congrats on your new guitar day. The nicest, joyous, most exciting thing a guitar player can experience. And Summertime was lovely, lazy, jazzy, laid back, just like a warm summer's day. Some great tones in that box, and that whammy...! I too had a new guitar day yesterday. May I share? After agonising over it for a week of guilt, weird dreams, cold sweats, and should I - shouldn't I... I agreed a deal on a Gibson J200. I've had the Standard before, sold it, tried a few more, none have really done it for me, but this one is different, the business. It's what you imagine and want a SJ200 to sound like, big, blonde, dangerous, loud, soft whispers, sweet highs, growling bass and it's actually a maple Studio, not a Standard! Those who know will agree Gibsons are so darn fickle, have to hunt high and low for a really good one (or just be lucky) but this goes to prove they are out there, and this one more or less fell into my lap.
I'm 65 and 2 years into my guitar playing journey. I hope one day to be able to play like you Paul but I doubt I ever will; simply awesome, enchanting, and inspiring. I love the way you walk though the chords and explain how you're tweaking them just because you can, kind of makes me feel more comfortable stepping outside the 'lines'. Thanks so much for sharing.
Wow, What beautiful version of this classic song, and thank you for the great lesson to go with it. Your father must be very proud that 6120 belongs in your hands. Thanks from Detroit
Simply Outstanding, Paul. You're a melodic player. I really enjoy your work, or play as the case may be! 😀 Your command of the fretboard is impressive indeed. Keep them coming, please. Cheers, Rob
What a special Father's Day moment for both of you. Most people think of receiving a as better, but I'll bet you anything that your dad is the happiest man watching you play and appreciate that guitar.😉 While I was watching you play without a pick, I noticed how close the Bixby bar is to your hand without you even noticing yourself. I think you could easily adjust your finger picking style to keep the bar lightly tucked under your pinky finger and simply roll your palm down and back slightly with a soft bouncing motion to get the rolling effect you want without the delay of reaching for the bar each time. It might take a bit of getting use to, but definitely worth a try. I know you use your palm and heal to mute similar to the way I do and most of that can still be done by letting your pinky rise up naturally while you are picking. Or you will find another method that helps you refine those Bixby smooth rolls.🎸 What an amazing gift and it shows.🙂🤙
I like what you’re saying GW… plus, it’s “cooler” not to have to reach for the obligatory wiggle… Yeah, let me practice that….. I guess Jeff Beck was the master of keeping it tucked within his grasp at all times. Cheers
nice guitar! that remembers me I still have my Japan epiphone emperor from '85. I must get it out and play it one day! I have flatwound 12's on mine! another great VID paul. look forward to seeing and hearing it out jazzmaster! cheers! 😎👍
Awesome version of Summertime Paul and the Gretsch is Luvvly Jubbly. Thank you to Mr Cook Snr, I look forward to listening to your Son playing that guitar again & again.
A while back I commented that you looked at home playing a Gretsch. I think your current musical direction shines through with this guitar. Great tone and lovely interpretation.
That Gretsch is you, Absolutely Amazing your tone and touch and feel are to die for, Thank You again. Kudos to your Dad he's outstanding !!!! wish Ya'll lived down the street !!! HAHAHA !!!! 🎵🎸
Recently became quite interested in your playing and videos. Might seem strange but the way you play and think reminds me very much of Eric Gayles process of playing, uou being more melodic. I really enjoy your feel, touch and the space you allow. I myself have now started and trying to process my playing in a similar way thanks to you. Keep up the videos.
Thank you Robert, your comment leaves me smiling. Especially the reference to Eric Gales, a player who intimidates the heck out of me 🤣. He’s on a whole new planet of talent. But thank you Sir, I wish you a happy weekend.
Thank you Paul. A beautiful guitar and beautiful playing. Just what I needed after my gig. Best wishes and good health to you and your family from Glasgow ❤🎸🎼🎶👍
Aw man spectacular i would love a big G from my old man sadly his guitar/ musical knowledge can be summed up in “ play uz one we know on that there banjo (Fender Am standard Strat)” 🎸🤣
I did watch the vid of your dad's fantastic collection and remember you were playing a few. I'm sure there was a story attached to a Gretsch, and I recall they were all special, certainly that is a beautiful instrument!
Hey that’s a cool surprise! Never spent much time with acoustic thickness electric guitars myself but I like the Stray Cats! Lol. Enjoyed the tune too!
Hi Paul I've not watched in a while but that was lovely guitar playing and a fantastic Gretsch which is very Eddie Cochran. Lovely and jazzy clean, but get some amp gain and drive on and it's pure link wray / AC-DC
Congratulations on the "loaner" Gretsch , Paul. I once had a 6120? made in Japan which I traded away sadly. The craftsmanship from the made in Japan series are second to none. Great playing as always my friend!
Saw you play that a while ago from your Dad’s collection. Lovely guitar! I have a 6120 DSW with the dynasonics; powerful single coils 😍 Love your stuff 👍
Great video Paul, by some strange coincidence I’ve been working on Summertime for the last three weeks, there’s so much you can do with that tune! I enjoyed your mix of aeolian and harmonic minor alongside the pentatonic, it’s a tasty mix! Lovely guitar and couldn’t be in better hands

Can we bring you over to the dark side… Travis picking! I sold my Electromatic as it didn’t feel right… too light, too plasticky… but would love to have a go on an old USA Gretsch. Paul, have you had a go with the Gamechanger Plus pedal? Like a piano pedal for guitar (like EHX Freeze I think, but better?). I bet you could do some awesome stuff with it.
Hi Saladzingers. I’d never heard of the Gamechanger pedal until now. Just watched a couple of RUclips vids on it. I’m starting to agree with you…. I’m intrigued. It’s now on my DO LIST to research properly. Thanks man 👍

It's a shame you can't get the 6120 Keith Scott model now, but I think the 6120TG DS Nashville is almost the same.
