Rat it mate. Matt black. Use a small sponge roller. I’ve done most of mine like that. You won’t need to change the colour on the logbook. I’ve done my Matt nato green vw Passat like it to. Trust me it would look the nuts. Don’t spend to much on it. That’s my advice anyway. Glad you got some bits sorted tho.👍🏼😉
Nice to see van saved from scrappy & what a difference already. Old school mechanics are def getting harder to find. Looking forward to see next stage 👍🏻
What a transformation on the van inside it's hard to believe it's the same van looks great. You've found a real gem in that mechanic like you said not many people like good old engine repairs the guy you found certainly does what a great guy. It would be good to see the body work possible hand painted. Looking forward to whatever you do to it it's good to see it on the road. This vans will take you on some great adventures camping out in it.
if ya want to brighten up that carpet inside on the walls grab a few cheap cars of black spray paint and spray them i used usually satin black or gloss so it doesn't make carpet look dull you wont believe how good it can make that carpet look and hide any nasty stains thats on them i used to do when valeting cars there is a proper dye you can buy but it was 30 or 40 quid for 5 litres and use that but 2 pound cans of black spray and leave it dry and then give it a hoover to soften the fabric again and voila black interior and looks fresh
thats like all my dodgy 16 inch folding bikes they are all work in progress.. i was gonna hand paint my Renault Clio till the Head Gasket decides to give up the ghost.. going to the scrappy now
Nice to see a classic saved from the scrapper, just getting mine tidied for the summer!! Would be nice to see you do something with the exterior to tart it up 👍👍
Really excited about following you on this one! I own a 2014 t5 and it’s the best thing I’ve ever spent money on. Already your t4 looks like a different van. Your dog looks so happy as well! Exciting times ahead campi 🔥 🐶 🚌 🏕
Nice one dude, it's coming togeather well. I don't think it's worth spraying giving the cost, theirs some great hand paint nowadays that won't cost very much just elbow grease, that's the road I'd go down. Well done can't wait to see the next one👍
Great van project!! We picked our up 2yrs ago and that coolant pipe was one of my first diy projects. What a 👀 u next Tuesday that job was 😂. Got ours running sweet now, thinking of re-running, but £300 can I justify it. Paint project, give raptor paint a go. Matt finish and very durable. 👍🏼
I’ve had a few old vans over the the years and rollered them and got amazing results . Just alway used those hairy rad type rollers as they didn’t leave roller lines and of course scuff up the whole van first. I remember the first escort van I did and the sprayer who worked opposite me being amazed how good it looked for the £15 it cost me. Whatever you decide it’s already a thousand times better . Great work 👍
@@davebryant6905 if I remember correctly i used a similar type of paint . Was told before ever doing it that non-drip gloss gave a terrible result so just avoided them . But a perfect cheap way to improve any van for sure
i own a transit mk6 camper and to look at it you would think it wouldn't have any issues. the engine is spot on having took care of it. look underneath and you will instantly ask me if fred flintstone and barney rubble previously owned it haha. its just about getting through an MOT without spending too much cash.
it's worth as much as he feels fit to put into HIS van, in my humble opinion I was hoping he get his buddy there to do a proper full spray. Maybe it's not worth it, worth it today. In the eyes of the world. But what's it worth in the owners eyes n mind? My love for shitboxes goes deep, I guess childhood trauma 🤣 For every damn day that passes, and I see an older car on the road in decent shape, I smile, it gives me hope that people take care of their vehicles, like men once used to.
Not a fan of the wheel spacers as i use my vans with lots of heavy stuff in the back and they will clip the arches if fully compressed on a big bump. But for light use should be fine. The 2,5tdi is normally good.
Man that's a great job you and your machanic have done glad it's all worked out for you and a good machanic really is hard to find nice one man I can tell your buzzing with it excellent
Boss work mate.... interior transformed and mechanically sound courtesy of the genius old-school mechanic!... Would look great hand painted...have a look at Gary and Amika's van channel...a £90 paint job done with a roller! ...looks great 👍
like how your not cutting corners and doing things properly. gonna look epic when its done. you should do the body work yourself then have a go at wrapping it? are you keeping it black? would look cool in audi Nardo Gray
3200 for this van despite all the issues is actually quite normal, they go for 6000+ if they look alright, 10k+ if it looks nice and works. No way did they do the rebuild though, thats around 3000 just for the work, not including labour for removing and replacing the engine. Remaps however, if youve got the tool, is free. Maybe they just meant they tuned it in ACVS
Get DredFX to do a custom paint job on it. If you allow him to do it with DredFX x Dude Stuff colab styling it's free advertising for him and your channel!
Was stripping the rear suspension on a '98 version today.,., people rave about them, I fix them - all year versions - daily. '80's through to 2008's. I'm not much of a fan tbh - I'd love to see some DIY/Normally equipped person try take off the rear suspension on a late nineties version in order to fix the rust. We have every tool going to deal with corroded fasteners & tough, smart lads running the tools - even they struggle on the nineties ones - the 20004 ish versions are even more of an absolute sod to repair when the upper shock mounts corrode - and they will corrode. The whole "I love these!" thing eludes me when it comes to Transporters - personally I hate them on every front, I'd rather an Iveco any day of the week, or even a Sprinter at a pinch. They rust like mad, they're usually an absolute sod to start, they have batshit wiring faults as standard, you can't stand up in them, every mechanical repair is a PITA & they cost an arm/leg because of all the Fanboys. Chuck in the "Stuck on forever" fiberglass roof abortions that most VW camper variants have - Hint, they rust just where the fiberglass begins... that fiberglass ain't coming off so we can fix the rust unless you're Bill Gates - and why they are so popular starts becoming one of lifes Great Mysteries.
Good video but, not realistic because most of us don't know a guy like that who can fix a lot of those problems. As you said most garages wouldn't touch it
What did you use to clean the dash and the seats? I have a 1994 T4 1.9 tdi which has had an engine swap from a 1x to a 1z and I need the fuel pump timing doing. Do any of you know of any decent mobile mechanics in the Manchester area who could fix it? Cheers.
Dude can you answer a quick question. I'm thinking of buying an engwe pro or an engine pro, I'm worried about being pulled by the 50 what's the chances and which bike would you choose the engwe pro 2 is about 400 euro cheaper. Thanks mate👍🚲
Just a suggestion and only my opinion. You promote all the bikes etc that you unbox ( new) and convert to elecy which is helping save the planet. Then show us the worst diesel high emissions worn out van ! Confused Perhaps for the suggestion of a video could be show us viewers you getting it crushed, no more oil on the road ( which as a fellow biker I’m shocked you even risk having the shed on a public road) You don’t risk breaking down because we all know you’ll have that bonnet up everyday. Just saying 👍
Why buy a piece of shite like that, when you could get a newer Toyota Hi Ace, in far better condition, for a lot less money? Your T4 is ALWAYS going to be shite, even if you spend £3-4k on it. You are just going to keep spending on it, and I would guess the engine is going to shit itself pretty soon.
Sort the rust out and wrap it mate get the cheapest wrap.. Once ya hand paint it ya never be able to wrap it easily or paint easily . Rap would make a good vid you n andy lol
Your old school vw mechanic saved your bacon fella. His a diamond, but also, you have transformed the van's interior congratulations 👌
Protect that man at all costs!!
Love goes out to the mechanic... He saved the day
It’s a different van inside, looking good. What about a raptor bed liner paint job? You can spray it or roller it on and it’s got a textured finish.
bringing her back to life, shes looking good dude. keep up the good work.

That's gonna be a nice little van. Probably not worth a proper respray tho, I'd go with hand paint

Nick certainly knows his stuff. You have worked a minor miracle on that interior. It looks way better.

I’ve got the same issue with the auxiliary belt tensioner.. think I need a ‘Nick’ in my life too…!
How can I get in touch with nick I need someone like him
like how your not cutting corners and doing things properly. gonna look epic when its done. you should do the body work yourself then have a go at wrapping it? are you keeping it black? would look cool in audi Nardo Gray
Yeah already a possible choice of mine going nardo or a pastel colour
love those seats. Its a really neat van.
id do the body work then prime and paint it in a patnina style, maybe some rusty paint here and there.
As an owner of a 200k mile ‘06 T5 2.5 auto with the terrible tiptronic gearbox i can safely say i need a guy like Nick in my life
Nice work. You're doing a great job of saving that van. How can I get in touch with Nick?
Hey fella, any update on the T4? Would love to see an update video on it 🙂👍
nice work mate great vans the t4

Well Bugger
Now you have to make a heap of RUclips videos on fixing it up and pimping it
Not worth painting, get it wrapped and it will look the dogs bollocks, admire your will power in getting it back on the road again.

Vacume pump right above that front drip👍
Fine 4 inch roller and desert storm, then you can hide it from scum if you hit the woods for a bike ride
Dred FX paintjob would be sick ! 👌
