VW T4 campers | What they're REALLY like to live with!

- The #vwt4 was little short of a revolution in Volkswagen world when it was launched in 1990 - a complete break with the classic, rear-engined VW vans and buses of the past. But now the #vwtransporter T4 is becoming a classic itself, what are these versatile vans really like to live with. In this video, two experienced owners share their advice on what's acknowledged as the first Transport generation - and known in the USA as the #vweurovan. Ash Corner spent only £350 buying his rare, long wheelbase, four-wheel drive, 1997 "Syncro" panel van. He's spent the last ten years transforming it into a much-loved VW camper - complete with a pop top. Alex Streek has gone for the lowered look in his customised 2003 T4 van. Both owners are honest about engines (some versions are a bit underpowered) and their battles with dreaded rust. Though generous undercoating in the factory means many are surviving better than the earlier classics. If you've owned a T4 and have experiences or advice that would help other campervanners - just pop your comments in the description below.

259,000 miles on my T4. Plenty of cosmetic rust but I'll keep it rolling until the scrapyard calls in a decade or so 👍
T4 1997 2,5 petrol, 115 hp, 123000 km on the meter, homebuild camper interior, I’m proud what I did to It in two years during the pandemic. Now I enjoy it 100%.
Found my T4 Westfalia with the Kitchen and pop-up top for £250. They are old, yes - but easy to maintain and still easy to get parts.
Got mine 2002 Caravelle two weeks now and fell in love immediately
T4 are the best, love mine. You never stop learning to be a mechanic when you own a T4 😂
I am a Vivaro owner and big fan, but fair play to you guys you have done well...and you have a pride and joy and that the main thing. Brings a smile. I get the fact that you won't sell, I feel the same, did a 10,000km run to Greece and Turkey last year and off the Alps, Slovenia and Italy next month. See you guys on the road and enjoy.
i have the opportunity to buy a 1999 T4 1.9TD Diesel at a bargain, however i am concerned about the lack of power on steeper terrain and the lack of aircon... I do plan on taking it to the south parts of France for example
Sorry mate, you missed to mention the V6 24v 204 hp there.. cheers from Indonesia😊
Where all those vans park? One is not allowed to park on a private land. And all lands are private.
T4 are ok but we'll overrated. They are old so a money out. Today they are dated and noisy and slow
I run a 1998 T4 Multivan 2.5 tdi 102 bhp that I bought 8 years ago as a first 'taster' van for taking the family away camping and mountain biking. I've had a variety of interesting cars over the years but the T4 is just a wonderful thing. Great comfort and visibility, with a superb engine in the 2.5 as it will cruise all day on the motorway while returning reasonable fuel economy.
Im sorry but what kind of roof is that? Is that in factory made or custom made by people? Im new into t4 camping style…if anybody could answer I would appreciate it really
i hear the 1.9 engine is known to be unreliable. true n which one? thx
Isn’t this the basis for the Eurovan campers we see in the States?
