I had this mod in my 2.4d T4 for a number of years, I changed it back to the original gear lately, the original 5th gear is far more suitable for the low horsepower of the non turbo. It was nice to drop from 4k rpm to 3k rpm @ 80 mph with the mod but I’m happy enough to cruise at 70 mph with the original gear installed @ circa 3500 rpm. It runs along a lot happier, fuel consumption is much the same too, Just thought I’d add a little food for thought for any fellow T4 owners, it’s a compromise fitting this mod, very little acceleration in 5th but will bring the revs down at motorway speeds if that’s where you mostly drive, it just felt like I had a 6th gear but no 5th. Definitely used 4th more on any hills and overtaking when I had the mod installed, Hope that helps someone. I wouldn’t be bothered again is all I’d say, VW made it the way that seems best to me. Good video though, exactly how I did mine.
Good comment and food for thought. Its not going to be for everyone and especially with the 2.4D as its gutless at the best of times! Completely agree on steep hills carrying a heavy load you may find yourself back in 4th but you would be like this without the mod. A dialed in fuel pump + the 0.622 will be a good fuel saver especially when doing lots of long journeys. Its also nice to not hear the high revs of the engine @ 70mph and you can turn the stereo down a little LOL
@@t4mation653 mine is a 2.5 tdi 88hp and same happened when upgraded the fifth gear... needed for more horsepower. In my case I remapped the van, now with 126hp the van moves lighter with 5th gear, but for uphills most of times 4th gear is needed Fuel consumption stays about the same, comfort inside has really improved though!
@@xabimtb Hey always good to get peoples experience. With the 2.5Tdi I would say what was the bhp before the re map and was the diesel pump absolutely spot. If it was and you had close to the original 88bhp its personal choice if more power is needed. In most cases it would be all good with original bhp. 👍
Thanks for the comment. We have done this to literally 100’s of vans. The 0.622 is good for 2.5 and the 2.4. This is also why we offer the 0.658 for all the 1.9. In the video this was actually a 1.9TD and the customer would have not been happier with the ride home. 👍
@t4mation653 Oh cool. I did this mod on a 2.5tdi a few years ago and found that it highlighted a few other problems with early model T4s which is to say the brakes are a bit ?interesting? 🫣 at high speeds.
I guess driving about town at 30mph in 5th isn't an option once this has been done? Not a problem as it sits well in 4th but just wondering how that's affected?
Hello , this change can be made also on 1.9 tdi ALH , my 5th gear has 0.84 ratio wich is quite loud driving on highway . I gues 0.622 is the 6th from other T models , also can be recomanded for my car ? Thank you for tutorial and further answer.
My 2002 T4 came with 5 speed box, and a great cruise control

This video was really helpful. Clear instructions made it so easy to complete the works. Thank you.
Glad it helped! You are welcome. Is there any other video you would like to see?
THANK YOU. i just discovered this kit exists for my t4 but I'm new to transmission work. You've given me the confidence to give it a go. :)
Glad I could help
Great videos very helpful. Wish I could send you video off my gearbox see if you could help me out the bluddy thing. Keep up the good work
Great video, very clear and informative! Just purchased a T4 and will definitely being doing this upgrade. Thank you 👍
Glad it was helpful! Don't forget to recommend some videos you would like to see
I had this done too. One of the best mods I ever did
Happy days...! You are right it has to be up there with one of the must mods on the T4. What else would you say is just as good or better for a mod?
very good video well worth it
Glad you enjoyed it
What ratio would you recommend for the 1.9tdi 1z conversion cheers
On my christmas list now lol.
Christmas is too far away 😂. Glad you like the video.
does the syncro stay the same when changing the gear?
Hi guys. Great video can you ship to Ireland without customs/import fees on my side ? Thanks.
Hey get in contact direct lets see what your options are. stephen@t4mation.me.uk
Where did you get this kit from? What ratio is it? 6.5 or 6.2?
Would this work with a 2,5l petrol syncro or you recon it will be to tall of a ratio?
Hey Yes sure it will work with a petrol. They work even better! The 0.622 is the one for any petrol. We have done life of them. 👍
Works fine on a 2.5 tdi especially the higer HP motors but a lot of T4s out there this will actually cause poor top gear performance.

What colour is that lovely short nose? :O
Hi, what gear oil grade would you recommend?
Ideally you need to check manufacture data on what's best. That said i do like to use 10/40 mineral oil on the older more mileage gearbox.
Can you deliver to Poland?
Hey yes sure we can. I am sure its set up on the store but if not get in contact and we will get this set up for you
Can this be put on a manual 1.9TD ABL? Thanks
Absolutely it can transforms the van. The van in the video was a 1.9TD that was used. If i can help further get in contact
Brilliant! I shall add it to my vast...VAST list of jobs on the van haha
I guess driving about town at 30mph in 5th isn't an option once this has been done? Not a problem as it sits well in 4th but just wondering how that's affected?
Hey, This would depend on the engine and ratio that was chosen but yes its possible.

I put a .622 in my 1.9 jetta. Works great.
Thanks for the info
hi, thanks! is that discount still available? thanks
Have you liked and shared the video......😉
Would this work for an automatic transmission?
no unfortunately not
