Star Wars: The Force Awakens, directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan & Abrams, features a cast including actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. They will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker.
The film is being produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk, and John Williams returns as the composer.
Say whatever about this trilogy, but this trailer was one of the best and most exciting things ever

This movie was clearly a copy of ANH, but it still was the best out of the new trilogy and could've lead to a great sequel trilogy.

it's good to see off-helmet Stormtroopers finally. Keep in mind people, Stormtroopers are not Clonetroopers. Giant difference. Stormtrooper legions are raised from Imperial worlds providing avarage recruits. It are all kind of individuals, including women too btw. So there are plenty of types of people being Stormtroopers. All cultures, gender, skin colors etc. Also aliens. Just for people who might be surprised that a black dude is in Stormtrooper armor. Again Stormtroopers are not clones but normal people from all corners of the galaxy.

***** Which is a stupid concept and why I won't stick to that part of canon ( something I rarely resort to ). I really hope they won't keep that clone BS because those "lore" stories, also games etc had everything perfectly established and and it all made sense, especialy since there were different sized Stormtroopers in episode 3-6 ( - even if you might claim that's because they didn't have the cgi for clones etc - ). It's just fucking stupid. Still hope they have that recruit concept for Stormtroopers instead of clones.

I remember this like it was yesterday. I was born in 2003, so I wasn't as privileged as other people who grew up with their own
Generational Trilogy. Around the time of 2007-2011 my mother had VCR Films of the Original Trilogy. I would watch those films repeatedly over and over again. About a year later in 2012 at age 9 my mom told me that she bought The Six DVD Movies Star Wars Collection with the Prequel Trilogy. At my young age I had no idea there even was another Trilogy. From 2012 to 2014 this time I had now viewed the Prequel Trilogy thousands of times which turned out to be my personal favorite although I do believe the Original Trilogy is the best. Then in the Fall of 2014 where I was almost a teenager I heard over the radio that they were planning on making a New Trilogy. Then on my Laptop I searched up Star Wars Episode 7. And this was the video that I opened 💀
If you think that John Boyega is only in this movie for political correctness you might as well stop being a Star Wars fan. If you really think Daisy Ridley is only in this movie for the hollywood liberal agenda you might as well stop being a Star Wars fan. If those are opinions you actually have then Star Wars isn't for you. Star Wars is about a connection to all life, no matter looks. As Obi-Wan said "The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It's an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together." Star Wars is above racial and gender tensions, those things are irrelevant. It's sad to see fans with weak minds really think it matters. I ask you this question i know you can't answer. Does it really matter?

I don't care if a character is black or some certain actor or actress. This is Star Wars. It's not like it's for political correctness, in fact there was a black character already. It's like you said, it's Star Wars, no true fan will think negatively of this. In fact the only reason to be skeptical is the prequel trilogy, even though 3 is epic in my opinion, I have a feeling this movie will be better than phantom menace.
The Force Awakens was the first Star Wars movie I saw in theaters, (I was only 10 years old). I thought the movie was amazing at the time, but as I get older I realise it isn't so amazing. This movie still has a special place in my heart because of the excitement 10 year old me had. But I think it would have been better to grow up with the original trilogy. I'm still a huge fan and will always love Star Wars no matter what happens next in the future Movies and Shows. Fan For Life.
For all you guys wondering, it is NOT Benedict Cumberbatch or Max von Sydow voicing this trailer but it is in fact Andy Serkins (who also played Gollum) who will also be in the movie.

Are people really complaining about the CGI? You realize the movie isn't coming out for 13 months right? I'm surprised they even have this much complete.
Ackshully, I was impressed by how RESERVED the CGI is in this trailer. It's way more UNDERSTATED than the CGI in the Jurassic World trailer that was released this week. (The droid struck me as a wee bit silly, tho'.)
Erm in Return of the Jedi, did they not defeat the enemy in battle? The enemy was not destroyed. In much the same way it wasn't destroyed in the first Star Wars film A New Hope.

Also, who is to say that the Stormtroopers and the TIE Fighters aren't working FOR the New Republic. The clonetroopers were Republic soldiers, after all. Maybe these new Stormtroopers are also Republic soldiers.

My goodness! People! Calm down! It's a teaser trailer. I'm reading through some of these comments and i'm just amazed. Complaints about a black character and about the look of the light sabre. Sheesh! Remember Lando Calrissian is a black character and the light sabre looks the way it does to be different probably. Remember how you felt when you saw Darth Maul's dual bladed light sabre for the first time? The X-Wings look slightly different (In my opinion it's NICE!) and to see the Millenium Falcon pulling those twists and turns! (sweet!) The only thing i have to say that can be considered negative is it looks a lot like a video game trailer. But that can work in their favor when they release the video game for this movie when the movie comes out!

Actually the light saber isn't that unfamiliar to those who follow the EU in depth, it's an ancient design that has been shown before (not in film of course), so people losing their panties b/c of the light saber need to get a grip. Just b/c they haven't seen it before doesn't mean it's something they just pulled out of their a&& for the film to make people talk. As far as the black character it's 2014, going to be 2015 can we just get past that. SW has always been a multi cultural tale (if not in color look at all the different species working together to defeat the empire!)
The new Stormtroopers look pretty cool, that part alone has got me excited for this movie.

To all complaining about the trailer: You can't be considered serious Star Wars fans if you start criticizing this already. Don't you think a shit-ton of fans criticized The Dark Knight off the trailer alone? I remember seeing comment after comment about the Batsuit, Joker's look, Christian Bale's performance, and just about everything. Now it's considered the best Batman adaptation. So please control your American "let's-criticize-the-shit-out-of-this-because-oh-shit-it's-new" comments, and just be psyched that Star Wars is getting a new treatment.
One problem we can bitch about is the "new lightsaber" looks ugly now, its like it's an actual sword now...
That's just a personalized lightsaber for whomever that sith lord is (probably the reincarnation of Sidious). Lightsabers come in all different forms, this guy is just a bit dramatic and chose a sword-style weapon.

People's expectations are unrealistic beyond words. "I just don't get the same feeling watching this as I do the OT." Really, no shit? You don't get the same feeling watching an 88 sec teaser only showing new characters and no plot line? I'm shocked! Look people, there's no way that a brand new 88 sec teaser is going to give you that exact same feeling as years and years of watching an entire trilogy over and over again with ALL the fandom interaction. It's just not realistic to think that. But what it gave me was excitement and hope. This teaser gave me a better feeling than all the prequels, not because of story but on production value alone. We live in a time where nothing is ever good enough, no matter what. People just love tearing shit to pieces even before there's anything to destroy. When I saw this teaser, I didn't HAVE to watch it over and over to convince myself it was good like the prequels. I wanted to watch it over and over. I've been a fan since I was 3 and RotJ came out. At some point the constant shit talking stops being "opinions" and just becomes dicks being dicks for the sake of being dicks.

Ryan, you are so spot on! I saw the original movie in 1977 in theaters…and the established SW fans know when they see this as "the real deal" (in 1min 38). I was even out in the Yuma desert to watch them film Jedi. Those who are trashing it, or just yakking over nothing are just so impressed, they are jealous of the excitement!! Been there, seen that from fans for over 30 years. This will be epic and the momentum is just beginning today. Good for you!! :-)

This trailer brought a tear to my eye when the falcon and the music started playing.
And once agiain the comments are full of people who hate on every minute detail in one sodding 80 second long trailer. Just look at yourselves this isn't the whole movie it's a fucking tiny trailer. Chazzer Brown To be honest I like both the prequels and the originals (Phantom Menace and Attack of The Clones are my least favorite SW movies however). I'm not too hyped for the new movies that Disney is producing, and after having seen this trailer, the excitement has still not grown inside me (maybe is it because I'm becoming old and I'm no longer a child?). I've not seen none of the 6 movies for years now since I've moved on to other things, but I'll certainly watch Episode 7 when it will be released next year. However, this teaser didn't really worked enough for me. The best thing to do is to wait for the other trailers or for the movie to be released in order to bring back this feeling inside of me....

For me & my family it was Rey not putting her goggles on before taking off on her speeder. While I didn’t like Ren’s saber at first, I thought it was a little cheesy but his tense battle with Finn showed the cross guard could be used to his advantage.

I loved the trilogy, but the franchise has always been divided. I remember a loooong time ago when people HATED the prequels. Then the prequels generation grew up and the movies became cult classics.

Wesley Tomsky it's because it's from the initial shoot, in the final product, Kylo Ren doesn't have his scarf and hold on in the scene, so this shot wouldn't make any sense for the continuity

I can say that these trailers made me extremely excited but my hype for The Last Jedi somehow topped these.. and I can say that my hype was fulfilled with that movie. Seriously the best since Empire, if not better, I need to see it a few more times.

Disney, if you want to sell this movie I would advise turning off the comments. The internet is filled with angry nerds who are never satisfied with anything. Personally, I'm reserving judgement until an actual trailer comes out but that Millennium Falcon clip almost sold me.
Will make $2 billion whether they comment or not. Brand equity is bigger than Marvel or Pixar.

For me, this was possibly the most exciting trailer I have ever seen.

Watching this 5 years later is just heartbreaking. I'm not even angry about The Last Jedi or Rise of Skywalker. I'm just disappointed thinking about what could've been. They had everything perfectly set up. All of these actors came to reprise their roles, everyone was hyped, it was an opportunity to do something amazing. This trilogy could've been great. It should've been great. But it just wasn't meant to be, I guess.
If only they planned all three like Lord of the rings they'd flow together and be good :(

I think a bigger problem with these movies isn't whether or not they were planned, you can still write a good story despite changes being made at the last minute, they just screwed up in some of those areas for the sequels

They continued to be used until death or lack of usefulness, but eventually they began recruiting normal people to be in the Imperial army. This is proven in the Star Wars Rebels episode "Breaking Ranks" in which the main character, Ezra, infiltrates an Imperial soldier training facility and trains alongside ethnically diverse human recruits, among them being a young black boy named Zare.
This is also confirmed further on the first page of the new Star Was: Tarkin novel.

The months leading up to December 2015 was the best hype of any movie in my life. I remember going out on Force Friday, getting all the merch, watching all the TV Spots, Interviews reading all the theories and "leaks". Nothing will ever bring about that same experience again.

Why is there so much displeasure in people seeing this Nigerian-Britsh man play a character in the StormTrooper outfit?? First, Star Wars doesn't have races, it only sees species. Most Stars Wars character don't even notice that a species can have organisms with different colors. You know why? Because it is thoroughly unimportant when you are trying to conquer or save the Galaxy. They gotten past it. We should to. Second, seeing as this set like 30 years after the original trilogy, which happened like 25ish years after the Episode 2, this leads to two possibilities: This young man wearing an old StormTrooper outfit for reasons, or he is part of the "new" Dark Empire(look it up). Sidious came back to life like three times, so his empire kept continuing. But you know what, I'm just a 17 year old kid who likes Star Wars and really dislikes unnecessary negativity. The Empire had many different clone templates and many of its troops were natural born conscripts and enlistees. Plus this is 30 years after Return of the Jedi so I doubt the Empire is at its best and will take whatever able bodied troops it can get.

Look how people are ignorant, complaining about the sword/lightsaber WITHOUT knowing exactly what it is for....I think it looks badass, and hope it has a usefull thing behind it, other than looking amazing.
It's also really practical, the hand gaurds will stop a lightsaber from simly sliding down and chopping off your hand during a saber lock.
Those 2 "extra blades" are most likely used to parry other sabers. Just look at old medieval swords.

The internet is a sad, sad place. People can't just enjoy things without complaining about miniscule details or making casually racist remarks that they'd never have the balls to make in person.
Even more ironic is that most of the people posing as "experts" and complaining about "details" reveal by their own words that they know bugger all about Star Wars.
I dont like to complain, but that saber design isnt safe for the one who wields it.
In the past few years I've been under this odd delusion that racism is sort of going out of style, as if America were growing up a bit. After reading comments under articles regarding the Ferguson situation, and this trailer, I am just staggered by the amount of bigotry I see. It's really sad.
It's not out of style, tons of people are still racist. The only reason we think it's out of style is because people are too cowardly to admit they are racist in front of a minority for fear of getting their asses kicked.
I see that, of course, I wasn't completely deluded. But being exposed to it is something I'm not really used to, and it just blows me away. And then there are the people who try to tell you they aren't racist by saying something deeply racist. I really believe that low intelligence is the vital element in bigotry and intolerance for diversity. Thanks for being a force for good.

This is the first very Black character playing the lead role in any of the Star Wars films and for that I'm very happy Hollywood is recognizing talent and becoming more inclusive. Although John Boyega is British, It's still a good thing. I'll take it. I hope one day all this will be a non issue. Just an even level playing field of opportunity for all artist.

While i hold no high hopes for this movie, given the last 2 of the prequels and not only given the last few things im aware that JJ did (even though his Trek wasnt Prime Universe, i still feel like he butchered it, including physics worse than Original Trek did) - but, like the OP im going to withhold the brunt of my opinion till they reveal more than a few seconds of footage.

when I first saw it there was something about it, something different, so I watched it about a dozen times. the film looks like an old film yet clean and crisp, it looks gritty and real.
there was no screen filters, lens flares, no after effects, it was just clear cut. which at first was a little jarring, because we're so used to these things being in every movie even in normal films there's always some kind of screen effect/filter some kind of digital gloss over it, there wasn't any of that in this, well if there is it's made the film look REAL.
it looks like Star Wars, it looks like a 1970-80 film that was made in 2014. I think that's one of the reasons why people aren't liking this trailer, because it's different to what we're used to.
there is the perfect blend of practical and CGI effects in this, JJ already said a while back that he was going to use as much practical effects as possible.
this is only the first trailer a year away from the release and a lot can happen in that time, but if this is what the film is really going to look like I'm happy.
I love how nothing is clean, everything looks dirty and broken like it's been through hell.
just from the first scene the way he comes onto screen it reminded me of old films, the little droid ball I think that was mostly practical effects looked cool, it was clearly there just to show off the fact.
the chick getting on the speeder thing, it's actually a real set piece that they made, not just some green screen block, which in the prequels the speeders in them are just green blocks the actor sat on in front of a green screen.
same goes for the X-wing and the Falcon they were made by hand in detail, then would have been digitally scanned enhanced on computer of course.
the bit with X-wings over the water was fucking awesome.
the storm troopers look fucking amazing, again actual dudes in suits and the lightsaber was fucking cool, it doesn't look like a fluorescent coloured tube, it's flicking and discharging , it looks like it's just raw power and I don't mind the hilt or cross thing sure it doesn't make total sense by looking at it, those things wouldn't protect you, as another saber would just hit the metal before the actual saber hilt.
but it looks badass it's like the old claymore swords it's fucking huge.
looks like he's about to go kill some wildlings and white walkers in that forest.....that's what I thought when I saw that.
and for me by far the best part of the trailer was the Millennium Falcon everything about that was fucking awesome. so cool. gave me chills of nostalgia.
I grew up watching watching 70s 80s and 90s action films but what I watched the most as a kid was Star Wars and Indiana Jones along with die hard and terminator just couldn't leave those out, I love these films, I'm only 23 so I was a kid going into episode 1 and even at 8 years old I thought it was crap compared to the originals.
so as a huge fan of the originals I'm incredibly excited for episode 7.
I'm not getting all this hate that's everywhere right now.

I agree fully. As for the crossguard it can probably be turned off at will, it could be a way to discharge excess energy to prevent the from becoming too long (it looks like a REALLY unstable lightsaber) and the hilt itself is probably lightsaber resistant making the crossguard fully practical if all three are true.
I absolutely agree about the lightsaber. It doesn't look like just glowing lightstick. You can really feel the terrible power, the sense that you're totally fucked if that red rod touches your body. It'd be even cooler if the good guys' lightsabers feel as powerful as that, but are softer and less menacing and instead more graceful and protective.

Arguable. People were raising red flags how beyond solid nostalgia trip movie had very little to offer. Though there was plenty of room for improvement. Then though TLJ happened and TFA's cracks as well started to become obvious.

It is a very practical design, even more so then then normal lightsaber, a guard to protect his hands is very practical thats why it was used on swords since they where first made, also i like that it seems to be a two handed one
