I’m 50. It took me 6 years to get to 1550 rapid. I’m hoping to reach 1600 by Christmas but it’s getting a lot harder to gain elo while gaining age. It sucks discovering chess this late. I’d like to be 2000 rapid by the time I’m 55. 400 points in 5 years seems doable right? Yes. When you’re 28 it is but your brain starts to atrophy after 30 at 1% per year until it increases to 3% at 75. At 50 your brain has been shrinking for 20 years. And you really start to feel it. I don’t think I can increase at my normal rate of 100 elo per annum at this point. But I will continue to try. Thanks for your video. Wish I watched it at 45. ;)

At 4:10 you can see the two arrows coming from the rook and at a later point of time, 11:21 you see those two arrows. Just goes to show how much effort he puts in these videos that he has a script written. The giant fork and a small fork also exhibit the same thing I want to show.

One more thing, puzzles are plans. Know all the puzzles and you know all the plans. Also, pick a puzzle that you like and reverse it back to move 1 so you know what opening will get you to that plan.

Im 1500 rapid. I used to be stuck at 1200 for one year despite putting in a lot of effort. (I guess i was the only 1200 who could checkmate with knight and bishop) and then suddenly i gained 250 rating points over the course of 1 month.
I have been at 2200 or so puzzle rating. I feel like I have the really bad habit of moving the pieces around too much while thinking though. That’s not allowed in over the board 😅
Lol yes! When solving puzzles or playing games, it’s best to develop the habit of not drawing arrows! I draw arrows on stream but I do my best not to when I’m offline playing/training

Tilt is real! When you feel in full tilt, gotta take a slight mental break yo collect yourself again. Could be 5 min, could be a whole day. When you get back to it, clear away the past mistakes and focus on the now!
Started playing chess 20th January 2022 and got to crazy 1479 peak rapid elo in 4 months and 3 days. My progress was super crazy too. in one day I jumped from 1015~ to 1100 winning 11 games in the row. Rn I backslided and lost about 100 elo dropping from the peak of 1479 to 1365(rn 1401). All that was done without buying any courses and spending money on coaches.
@@goofyahh7113 when I was 400-900~ I played Vienna as white and kings Indian/pirc as black. Then, I got really stuck at 900 for a long time and decided to switch to d4 as white, playing Catalan. Man, gotta say, it’s OP And also started playing caro against e4, not pirc.

Well idk about 1800 yet, but I only just reached 1700 myself. The biggest thing I’m noticing is that 1600-1700 seemed way easier than 1500-1600! Maybe people get complacent or being consistent has just helped me out that much! Consistency with puzzles, analyzing games, and you’ll be on your way to 1700+ in no time!
My number one tip to 1600 players is to learn from your mistakes by analyzing your games, especially those that seem to repeat. Learn the best moves in the common lines of the systems that you usually end up in (no need for endless chess literature at this rating). Also if you play online, don’t do tournaments. They are terrible for rating.
It's not your real rating. After making a fast progress I was stuck for 3weeks at 1220-1250 and I thought damn I have never been in the same range for this long and boom then I hit 1300 and now I am a game away from 1400 and the fun part is that I was 1220-1250 around 2 weeks ago

Super GM rating in OTB is 2700+. Just a joke I’m making to claim super gm status in puzzles (ofc I’m not). For our difference in rapid, maybe calculation is one of my strengths, but I have other weaknesses! I know I need to work on clock management and endgames so been trying to improve there
It really depends! Everyone has a different starting point and a different amount of time that they can dedicate to learning chess. I wouldn’t worry as much about how quickly you get to 1000 but rather your plan to do so! I highly recommend doing puzzles to improve board vision and learning to see tactical patterns. Following basic opening principles is more important than memorizing move by move
Generally, make sure you’re playing your games with no distractions. No phone or other tabs visible! And as always, do your puzzles training to stay sharp. Oh, and ask yourself “what changed” after every move!!
3 things. Openings puzzles and game analysis. But that's pretty much online chess. Here's the truth. Only one thing matters. Puzzles. Puzzles teach you everything. Except you definitely don't know how to do puzzles if you've only done 10k in 2 years. You are only using the classical time control for puzzles when you should be blitzing out puzzles 200/hour.
Everyone is on their own journey! Different amount of time available to dedicate to chess, different strengths, etc. And congrats on your quick journey up!

When u say you forgot the bishop can just take the rook, you also have mate in 1 with queen f5.

Honestly I do more puzzle rush survival and rated puzzles than puzzle battle. Battle is a lot of fun though and I’m sure it still helps

You can reach it in 2 months. Some people 1 month. Some 2 weeks. Anything after 4 months is sketchy though.
I would say that the average to get to 1000 elo is 4 to 6 month, but if you play everyday, in 2 or 3 month you coukd get it
