I first played the Pirc a couple months ago when I missclicked a Scandinavian 😭🤣 I learned some ideas afterwards because it seemed like a cool opening and now I throw it out occasionally, when I want some change. Cool video to learn more about it!
I liked to play the Pirc very much! Esp. because almost no one was prepared very well to it. In the beginning i had to suffer some losses, but after a while i had some nice wins with it. I liked its flexibility. Opponents went impatient and then played careless moves. As from this video, playing against the Byrd variation is very difficult. Maybe you could do a video on that single variation for black?
Thanks for putting together this overview of the Pirc. I started playing it (along with KID) when I got back into chess a few years ago but I have to admit that I have a hard time with it. At lower levels opponents often don't know how to attack it but better players do, and I lost a lot of games with it. Still working on it though I am currently playing Scandinavian more often against e4. I feel more comfortable in those positions.
@@FuegoBurns6969 Same. Plus you eventually learn all the major ways you lost and then start seeing the threats the moment your opponent thinks of them.
I knew this 3-4 years ago when pirc was less popular and i got easy wins but after magnus played it and your video this is mediocarly popular and i loose here and there but still its good😊
After watching this, I tried it first time ever in a bullet game and smoked my opponent. It felt exactly as you described: seemingly slow and defensive and then BOOM. ❤️ I was uncomfortable with how the development was going and then everything turned
My issue with the classical variation is they never trade their dark squared bishop for the knight and my bishop gets locked in for the entire game. Then I tend to lose to queen side pawn pushes since my bishop can’t come help. How do I work around this?
Igor, did you miss the en passant move by white in your explanation. That would have resulted in the white pawn simultaneously attacking the rook and queen?
I play jobava and i beat a lot of pirc players easily by pushing my e pawn to E4 then E5, exchanging pawns, then, exchanging queens. Move in with my knight, from c3 to d5 give up the dark bishop it appears to defend and fork king and rook on c7 with knight with mate next turn from rook on d8. They have ways to refute but the position feels great for white
I think forking the rook and king, then taking the rook, and QxB will give queen control of the dark square diagonal. And from then its going to be a major checkmate threat.
damn! thank goodness i was surfing through yt for pirc defense ,as in bullet n blitz it's a go to move cuz of easy positioning regardless of my opponent's move as Black it's somewhat easy for me now to set in at start of game but lot to go..! Thanks for this video😊
Just played this and had a great game, something i'd like to know though. When you have such a good game, am i the only one, who does not want to play again? I feel like i've had such a good game that the next game can only be worse.
I used this as black and English opening from 200 to 500 34 played only four loses Then i after 500 i was cooked every single game 😮😢 I moved to London system and no black opening specif I lost almost 9/10 and i am now 600 elo I just became from hero to zero 😅
The pirc defense is an unsound opening with tons of traps for white to destroy black easily , this line requires cooperation from the opponent lots of it
I also play as white the way u mentioned it ;-). It supposedly was called 150 attack in England in middle of XX century, if I remember correctly. "One fifty" because their team coach told to play this way against those defensive one fifty ranking pirc players, and they were smashing them with the setup you mentioned.
That must be why Magnus Carlsen has never played it before. Oh? Whatchu mean he plays with it and wins all the time. Show me someone saying pirc is trash & I'll show you someone who blamed theory for being bad at chess

The "C" in pirc is pronounced as an "S" as it was named after Vasja Pirc (who was Slovenian). Just sayin...
I registered for the masterclass, it's late today so I will start learning within the next couple of days.
In classical variation after Bc4 I usually play c6 Czech pirc and most of the time my opponent blunder b5,b4 and winning the e pawn
I am really in need of understanding.

Beautiful illustration of Pirc defence 🎉🎉❤❤
Wouldn't call it a beginner friendly opening. Most beginners are going to get cooked in pirc when white pushes pawns on the king side
Simple response to the 150 attack is just to go c6 b5 and roll on the Queen side.
There is another attack called lions jaw(it's deadly)
You all sound like old Kunfu movies Masters😅😂
Been playing this since day one as my main black opening and at 600-700 elo I can say yes you’ll lose a lot but the games will be interesting
@@FuegoBurns6969 Same. Plus you eventually learn all the major ways you lost and then start seeing the threats the moment your opponent thinks of them.

Knight to b3 wins the queen 🎉
I love the Pirc, because I'm too lazy to learn a bunch of black openings!
I need to watch your videos like I’m actually going to school and study these teachings you give us
in the end, it's knight d7, right?
“…and then, you are on winning position…” oh, you don’t know me!

Thank you for great video.
Oh thank you I was so confused to hear a non American saying "perk" lol
very similar to kings indian
No similar, It's Kings India defence Only
It's called pirc if E4 d6
@@Wryyyyyyyyy21 Pirc Defence it is, and the King side Setup that is forming in the process that is King's Indian
@@rashikasharma0807 yeah they overlap each other after a few moves, but saying it is KID refusing og comments is just dubious
Kings Indian is primarily a king side attacking defense, so your similarities is flawed
Thoughts on combining the Pirc with the Old Benoni as a foundation for a repertoire for Black?
12:50 Nb3+
21:10 why can't white block with bishop D4
HEY IGOR CAN YOU SHOW HOW TOCOUNTER THE SCANDINAVIAN DEFENCE MODERN VARIATION
2:20 i get alot of white pawn D4 to D5
What book on the Pirc would you recommend for a C-player?

Then I tend to lose to queen side pawn pushes since my bishop can’t come help.
How do I work around this?
Igor, did you miss the en passant move by white in your explanation. That would have resulted in the white pawn simultaneously attacking the rook and queen?
If you're referring to 11:01 , I don't think white is allowed to en passant from that position (the sixth rank).
hey i have question.. what if white plays Bd3 on move 4
Kinda like the Sicilian as well. Thanks Igor. I would love to see the old Benoni
at 5:41, why not take with the bishop instead of the queen?
I think forking the rook and king, then taking the rook, and QxB will give queen control of the dark square diagonal. And from then its going to be a major checkmate threat.
кстати твои тактики реально работают! я уже пробовал пару) все работает!!!
Great content, thank you 👍
Do you think you could make an anti caro kann without theory lesson?

Thanks now this defense will be my repertoire for black pieces
Super powerful!!!! 🎉
Awesome to hear that from you!
When the opponent plays a knight move or even two knight moves with no pawn move, is this considered E4, or D4?
Thank you !
It's e4 if they play E4 and it's d4 if they play d4.
Please give me a video how play this line against English opening
I ised to play the pirc defense when i was an active junior chess player ❤
What do I do I the second line if he does not castle queen's side instead moves the rook to protect his b2 pawn

It isn't. He said "illegal" move with air quotes.
