    For context, when Grog attacked the dragon in Critical Role, Travis honestly thought he had a chance. Matt told him to roll for his attack and Travis very happily announced that he rolled 19. And then Matt said, "19 is a miss". That's when they realized they had to run away.

    Fun Tidbit, and I can't remember which interview, episode snippet, etc, that this was in but Matt, the DM, mentioned once that Thordak was changed from a normal Red Dragon due to what he'd gone through in his backstory. Lots of in-game references point me to think that Matt was meaning that Thordak was becoming something from an older edition of DnD: A Catastrophic Dragon, which were dragons that were infused with one of the Elemental Planes. Thordak was likely turning into a Volcanic Dragon, a dragon from the Elemental Plane of Fire.

    Dragons are very rare. It had been a long while since one was last seen - Allura mentioned that her team had fought a red dragon "years ago" back in S1E2. So facing 4 must have been unbelievably horrifying. (They also have Terrifying Presence, which would cause many to react rather badly)

    Fun little fact: The two kids (one of them with their eye covered up) that are concentrated on throughout the episode (the ones Keyleth meets at the gate, Pike protects with her shield, and Scanlan sees peeking around the corner that convinces him to go) are a cameo of Sam Riegal's (Scanlan) kids!

    14:45 Umbrassyl, the black acid dragon, was there at that meeting - it's Raishan the green poison dragon who was missing - well spotted though.
    03:45 "she's new"
    Allura Vysoren - we saw her a couple of times last season. She was the main contact Vox Machina had in the Council. Another fan favourite NPC you're now getting to see a different side of.
    5:30 That was a 19 at the table... And missed. First sign the party was way over its head.
    I agree on the variety of design, Titmouse really went out of their way to make each dragon look incredibly unique with so much personality in each design.
    I love that you're getting into Season 2 now. Moving from Kickstarter production into Amazon money now and they really push the bar in this season and a lot of great character stories on their way.

      Yeah, Brimscythe is a Young Adult at best. As of when this part of the game was played, the remaining members are all Ancients. If they were to redo this with the current classification, Thordak would be a Great Wyrm, the step *above* Ancient.

    They do a great job in this episode of capturing the feeling from the game, imo. When Matt dropped 4 ancient dragon minis on the table, and proceeded to lay waste to this city FULL of lore, built up over something like 5 years (on and off stream) of campaign, none of the players are expecting it, and there's nothing the characters can do but run. At the end of the episode (after the session ends) the whole table looks sort of dazed by the scale of it, including Matt, and he says "I just destroyed something that I built. It's a really weird feeling."

  • @frostdragon7135
    @frostdragon7135 6 месяцев назад +1

    Maybe you figured it out already, but just in case you get confused: There are four dragons. A red that breaths fire, a white that breaths ice, a black that breaths acid and a green that breaths poisonous gas. Many people confuse the the black and green dragon, I don’t blame them. At the end of the episode it is the green dragon that is missing, not the black one. To make it easier to track you can keep in mind that the green one is the only female of the group. She is the one who killed sovereign Uriel.

  • @TheOnlyHawkeye666
    @TheOnlyHawkeye666 7 месяцев назад +13

    Another bit of information, the four dragons and breath weapons were:
    Black- Acid
    Green- Poison
    Red- Fire
    White- Ice
    And lore wise dragons are normally solitary creatures, the immense power of them working together is truly a terrifying idea in the world of D&D

  • @haku8135
    @haku8135 7 месяцев назад +1

    In DnD there's 2 main categories of true dragons. A true dragon is a draconic creature that grows more powerful as it ages.
    The 2 groups are Chromatic and Metallic. Chromatic dragons are evil, and these are ancient dragons, which means they're all around 1000 years old at least. Thordak is also clearly amped outside of normal power.
    4 Metallic (Good) dragons working together would be incredible.
    4 Chromatic dragons of the same type working together is absurd, Chromatic dragons usually barely like being together even to raise children.
    4 Chromatics of different colors working together is terrifying.
    4 ANCIENT chromatics working together, is world ending.
    In DnD ALL the most powerful top tier creatures with the highest challenge ratings, they're basically all dragons. Outside of the Chosen of Gods like Mystra the goddess of magic, the biggest threats are dragons.
    Dragons are insanely strong, and they are indeed all magic. Specifically they're all natural Sorcerers. That's why one of the Sorcerer subclasses is DRACONIC sorcerer, so you can imagine what kinda magic a proper dragon would have.
    And ancient ones? The strongest dragons can throw out 9th level spells like candy. Then of course flying is just inherently broken, then their breath weapons are stupid powerful as well.
    So yeah, this is NOT a good situation. Like the ONLY thing worse than this is if a literal god showed up to throw hands!

    Welcome to the scariest dragons I've ever seen in fantasy. Forget Drogon, forget Smaug, forget all those others you've seen elsewhere. The Chroma Conclave are genuinely terrifying foes and a prime example of the terror and destruction dragons can bring. The name Chroma Conclave refers to the fact that all five members are Chromatic Dragons (Red, White, Blue, Green, etc) rather than Metallic Dragons (Gold, Silver, Bronze, etc). Chromatics are usually evil, Metallics usually are benevolent if not outright good.
    Quick breakdown of the group, there are five in total. Brimscythe the Iron Storm, the blue dragon with lightning breath from the first season. The youngest of the bunch at about 100ish years old, he's *barely* a young adult and is easily the weakest of the bunch.
    Umbrasyl the Hope Devourer, the ancient black dragon with acid breath/secretions. Voiced by Matt Mercer who previously voiced Sylas Briarwood and is the DM of Critical Role, the story teller behind the game this show is based off. Cruelest of the Conclave members.
    Vorugal the Frigid Doom, the ancient white dragon with ice breath. Most brutal and animalistic of the bunch.
    Raishan the Diseased Deceiver, the ancient green dragon with poison breath and the only female member of the Conclave. Probably the most cunning of the group.
    Finally there's Thordak the Cinder King, the ancient red dragon with fire breath, so ancient in fact that if the Conclave were designed using today's classifications of dragons rather than what they used back when this part of the game first aired, he'd be a Great Wyrm which is the classification *above* ancient, getting into god-like territory. Most powerful of the Conclave and arguably one of the most powerful beings in all of Exandria.
    What makes the Chroma Conclave so terrifying is that every member could be an epic boss battle on their own and could justifiably be the ultimate bad guy of the show. Chromatics hate each other and *never* work with each other, but the realization that five of them have united for this single cause is enough to scare the shit out of anyone and a clear sign of how unimaginably powerful Thordak is that he has convinced the others to serve him. Chromatic team ups simply don't happen, so for five of them to make an alliance is simply unheard of.
