Sequels used to BE the remakes. Back in the day when they wanted to revisit the story, characters, and situations, but they saw it as an opportunity to write NEW stories and expand the world in new ways. The remakes are literally wanting to revisit the thing knowing you have no ability to improve it, you can only subtract from it.
Or they do start making additions, but everything they add is just a slap in the face to the fanbase. Take the FF7 remake, for example. It's playable, but they have tied the story into the most God awful knots imaginable. They shot for maximum bastardization, and they achieved their goal.

Sheva was always supposed to be in the game initially she was a supporting character but midway in development Capcom took a look at Left 4 Dead thought: "co-op is the big s****" turned RE 5 into a co-op shooter and since to much of story would had the be rewritten to make Jill the sceond player character they gave this role to Sheva.
RE5 is NOT a bad game, it's a bad RESIDENT EVIL game. Just forget it's a resident evil game, think of it as a spin-off or what-if and you will have fun, especially if you play with a friend

Farcry 2 has one of the best contemporary storylines, you are shown the abandon of warlords, the ruthless nature of mercenaries and the power of blood diamonds. One of the best anti-war pieces of media out there.
People really liked RE5 back in the day. As the follow up to 4 with faster combat and more action was seen as a nice change to make it more modern, but thats when people also started to call for the series to get back to its horror roots. 6 was odd, it was segmented to it kind if had both? By 7 they were back to their bread and butter as a slower game paced horror game.

RE5 isn’t a bad game at all in my opinion. It’s not good in single player as your partner AI is a bit suspect but get another player involved it becomes what I think the developers envisioned. I think it was the best selling RE game too.
I hope this game does get updated at least. The awful 2008 DRM and connectivity problems make it a pain to setup. It's an amazing co-op game except certain sequences that had instant kill and short time limits.
I kind of get the criticism of RE5 because most of the zombies are black people, but what bothered me the most was the RE5 reminded me too much of RE4, so much that I thought assets were lazily taken from RE4.

It's mindless fun for me. 🎉 I completely understand why most fans of RE hated 5 & 6.

Bad game my ass, resi 5 is a blast. Gameplay is not one of its issues. Only the tone and only to the purists. The combat is great, the middle ground between shooting and cqc is thrilling. The pacing is very good and there's few other coop campaigns as good as resi 5's. It's not a masterpiece but it is really good. Sheva is beautiful.

Re4 and re5 are my favorite resident evil. I would love it for them to remake it and keep it exactly how it is. I don't like horror games so maybe that's why the original re4 and re5 are my favorite.
Codename Veronica has 2 versions, 1 where the brother dies all loving with the sister. the other where she straight up kills him. we NEED a remake of it because the game is 1 of the best Resident Evil games there is but the graphics are just so damn dated, that's not even mentioning the gameplay. as for R.E 5, the story definitely needs reworking so it flows better and the gameplay needs to massively change but i can still see the game working when they release it 5 years from now.
Funnily enough, RE5 was originally all black villagers until Western gaming "journalists" made a stink about the preview images that Capcom released, saying that a white dude with a gun going to Africa and blowing away black Africans wasn't a great look. Capcom were surprised by the negative criticism. It simply hadn't occurred to them, because Japan's history with Africa and African people is not the same as America's. Who knew? Anyway, Capcom made some last-minute changes to the game, which is why the villagers in the final product are a curious ethnic mix that you wouldn't expect to see in the kind of African shanty towns where the game is set. So, yeah, even back in 2009 we had the early rumblings of the nonsense that we're all too familiar with today, with US gaming "journalists" projecting their culture's shame onto a game from another culture, and getting the final product altered to better fit US sensibilities.
I recall back when RE5 was released a Finnish gaming magazine complained something about how the Japanese developers don't understand the shameful imperialist undertones of the game. I thought it was BS back then, and it's BS now. Are you just not allowed to depict Africa in games unless you present everything as wonderful?

The RE4 remake is exceptional for being able to blend horror and action so seemlessly as go be the best of both.
In defense of Resident Evil 5, it did give us Sheva Alomar rule 34. I would like to see what could be acomplished with an updated model

Re4 and re5 are my favorite resident evil. I would love it for them to remake it and keep it exactly how it is. I don't like horror games so maybe that's why the original re4 and re5 are my favorite.
Codename Veronica has 2 versions, 1 where the brother dies all loving with the sister. the other where she straight up kills him. we NEED a remake of it because the game is 1 of the best Resident Evil games there is but the graphics are just so damn dated, that's not even mentioning the gameplay. as for R.E 5, the story definitely needs reworking so it flows better and the gameplay needs to massively change but i can still see the game working when they release it 5 years from now.
I play women characters for the same reason.
I never asked for 3rd person view. Don't blame me for adapting.

Funnily enough, RE5 was originally all black villagers until Western gaming "journalists" made a stink about the preview images that Capcom released, saying that a white dude with a gun going to Africa and blowing away black Africans wasn't a great look.
Capcom were surprised by the negative criticism. It simply hadn't occurred to them, because Japan's history with Africa and African people is not the same as America's. Who knew? Anyway, Capcom made some last-minute changes to the game, which is why the villagers in the final product are a curious ethnic mix that you wouldn't expect to see in the kind of African shanty towns where the game is set.
So, yeah, even back in 2009 we had the early rumblings of the nonsense that we're all too familiar with today, with US gaming "journalists" projecting their culture's shame onto a game from another culture, and getting the final product altered to better fit US sensibilities.
I miss good movies that took place in Africa, like blood diamond.
I want them to remake the Jake and Sherry campaign from Resident Evil 6. The only good part of that game.
I'd rather restore my Xbox 360 and "find(🏴☠️)" a copy to play rather than trust a remake.

I recall back when RE5 was released a Finnish gaming magazine complained something about how the Japanese developers don't understand the shameful imperialist undertones of the game. I thought it was BS back then, and it's BS now. Are you just not allowed to depict Africa in games unless you present everything as wonderful?

re5 just finished the power creep re4 established. fun but no longer scary, horror boiled down to gore. its fine to let things stay in the past, still wont buy the re4 remake, maybe ill pick it up for 5 dollars in a decade. me and my friend still think its one of the best co op games and go back to re5 from time to time to just smash the whole thing BSAA emblems and all. game is set in africa. black people are not the minority there. apparently everything and everywhere has to revolve around whatever is the mentality in the USA.

Remember when all of this happened when the original game released, using all the same talking points, demonizing all the same people? Gaming Journalism has pretty much never been good as an industry, they just hired the occasional person with scruples before 2010. The situation around RE5 original release is probably why Capcom still flirts with western cult trends and probably jumped on it early. Also, they should remake Code Veronica LONG, LONG, LONG before they remake 5. 5 doesn't make sense without CV

This aside, I definitely want Capcom to give SIX6SIX a complete rewrite. Great performances, but terrible story writing. I don't need "Night of the Living Dead" or "House of the Dead" & "UNCHARTED" or "Tomb Raider" in Resident Evil back then, nor ever again. Our zombies don't start as shambling coagulated or dessicated corpses. They're living flesh & blood people horrifically mutated into merciless nigh unstoppable abominations.
