I started ignoring diversity since I waged the documentary on the 25 anniversary of Half Life 1. That team of pure white people was more cretively rich than if you put all of this writing consulting teams together.
I guess their idea was that gamers are a captive audience and will buy no matter what you screw up trying to change to reach new audiences. That’s pretty dumb logic considering the massive amount of products available to gamers. It’s so easy to avoid poorly made AAA games entirely. Most of us have growing backlogs. We’re not that thirsty for games.

I am slowly doing the 100% achievements crawl on a few at a time to keep me entertained. I will never need to buy a new civilization game for sure.

As someone who worked in clinical research, in some cases those stats are "calculated". It's not just that "diversity" means different things to different people, it's much worse. You won't even be asked the question directly, the stats will be interpreted from how you answer barely related questions. "A game is better if it offers a choice of characters from different backgrounds to play as" Agree? You're pro diversity.

The online fandom is likely majority female as they tend to focus more on the community aspects and making fanarts/fanfic. You can also easily observe where money comes from when you look at genshin gacha sales. The female characters vastly out earn the male ones which leads to the believe that its mostly straight dudes paying.

The way and tone of questions effects it, the order effects it, who is asking and what media they are using to ask effects it and many many more. One thing I learned from academia is that statistics is the easiest thing to lie to in papers. You can just send surveys to likeminded individuals, forge them, or extrapolate the result to higher number and they can't ask for authenticity because the source is your "field experience".

Even I, a filthy casual, can tell a lot of these people are being misleading, or deceptive. Yes, gamers want diversity, as in choice and variation, they don't want want diversity as in divisive politics, or preaching, or only skin deep variation, such as just skin tone or sexuality to be the character, let alone cast. Genshin and Honkai players are around 40-50% female, they like the husbandos and they like the big booba wifus. no "real game" has a larger female demographic than those, shows how they make their statistics(candy crash and other mobile and casual games count). also I've seen more backlash over the ass nerf to Ember from female players than from male players(I have seen 0 backlash from the male players, they likely didn't even notice before one of the girls said something) but that is more because the focus was drawn towards the new characters and still towards characters like Raiden Shogun and Yelen.

One thing I learned from academia is that statistics is the easiest thing to lie to in papers. You can just send surveys to likeminded individuals, forge them, or extrapolate the result to higher number and they can't ask for authenticity because the source is your "field experience".

I would love to see how they gathered this data and what kind of criteria was used to have someone fall into the 64%. Every gamer I've talked to, of all races, say they care about a game actually being fun above all else. Just like how most would say having more options or characters to choose from is better than less options. Does that mean they want diversity in games? I am not that good at math but here's a little thing I came up with to help me:
If 200,000 = 0.007% then:
2,000,000 = 0.07%
20,000,000 = 0.7%
200,000,000 = 7%
2,000,000,000 = 70%
Therefore, 64% is a little under two billion and I'm assuming 100% would be around three billion.
