We fly into Truckee-Tahoe airport and pop over the mountain to the Speedboat beach house, about 30 minutes total, easy peasy. Tahoe is very hard to describe to an outsider as there are so many different areas with their own unique vibe, but still connected by the lake’s laid back style. I lived for a year in South Lake Tahoe up in the mountains called the "Otomites" neighborhood (if that makes sense, it's been 30 years). I remember it having a rural feel despite being an actual neighborhood, and my dad's house sat catty corner to a ranch run by an actual cowboy family. We would go into town on the weekends and it was like night and day, so different. I loved living there, walking down the mountain every morning for some fresh mountain air, I even loved it when we were snowed in with ten feet of snow outside. Just the best and prettiest place I'd ever lived and I miss it to this day. However, what I have been hearing is that it's very different now. I'm hearing that it's turning into another LA, trash and tweakers everywhere, which wouldn't shock me since California is hell-bent on completely destroying itself with its dumbass politics. I hope it isn't true. Maybe you can tell me if what I'm hearing is what's really happening there....
I can't speak too much for SL, we are in Incline and it's still beautiful and family-friendly here and very safe. SL has more visitors than Incline so maybe there are more homeless or people that are drunk because of the casinos? I don't think it's turned into LA that is for sure. It's a bit too cold for the homeless to stick around but everywhere you will have drug and alcohol use, unfortunately. I personally still love it here and would recommend living here anytime, only downfall is how expensive it is but that is everywhere in CA. Come back for a visit!
