and it STILL managed to land somehow, just unbelievable
Starship:. "I will fight to the end!"
It's amazing that the landing and the belly flop maneuver still worked. I couldn't believe it.
Yes. Thanks to the tiles for protecting the flaps long enough before melting away. The flaps sustained some damage but I think the important parts were still intact.
But it survived and functioned all the way to the ocean splashdown. It deserves a medal....lol
What a trooper 🫡
Flap really said mah id win
Half destroyed and still functioning. What a great redundancy
Makes me think about that hole in the wing of the Columbia during its reentry
This flap!!. Is like RUSH..IT STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. A PART OF IT DIED after a successful landing of course BUT RUSH WILL NEVER DIE
AND THIS IS BEAUTIFUL.
Starship:
"Just a scratch baby.."
2 mins later:
"C'mon we can do this.. !"
3 mins later - Big chunk of tiles falls off:
"Eeeeh...... THAT APPENED!!!!"
4 mins later:
Hold on flapsy, just a little more!
------
6 mins later - Computer:
"Heat tiles critical"
Starship:
Shhhh...
Computer:
Critical malfunction in the left falangie (!)
Starship:
"The left WHAT NOW!!"
Computer:
"Main engine at low power"
Startship:
OH C´MON!!!!!
Computer:
"20km ......... 15km..........10...................9..................8................. 7.................6"
Starship:
"54321 INCOOOOOMIIIIIIIN!
Splashdown!!!!
I can't believe I saw the whole thing live. And to top it of, twice during that part of the re-entry the cameras went black and the audience thought that Starship got ripped in to billions of peaces. But both times cameras went online and she was still going. It was like a f*king science fiction movie but real. REAL. This was the most amazing thing I've ever seen.
I'm not sure if even SpaceX themselves were aware of the power of Starship at this stage.
So this is a prototype... flying for the 4rth time.
It lost a lot of heat tiles, its flap was ripped in to shreds, and still managed to hold together through Earths atmosphere and do the belly flop, and land successfully.. OU and it also had 1 engine failure during launch.
To everyone out there not believing in SpaceX: This one's for yall!! :D
need an astromech
Congratulations Elon Musk, it was the massive success of the Starship 4 flight test.
"Don't worry, she'll hold together. You hear me, baby? Hold together." -Han Solo
guaranteed excitement!
Glorious failure. The fact we can see the footage from such a failure will hopefully help others to make safer spacecraft and prevent another disaster like we had with the shuttle. I'd be interested to see the whole craft because there were obvious failures before this. Every spark was melting metal before this control surface disintegrated. There was also likely multiple metal fires.
Seems like the space between the flap and the body is the weak point during reentry, it doesn't appear to have thermal protection tiles. It's very difficult to shield a moving section. The hinge part is also unshielded.
It was always going to be a weak spot. The problem is the movable part. Will be interesting to see how they fix this.
Is that honeycomb material being exposed?
It far better than the shuttle would have. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Starship: I melted but still survived
Atlantis on STS-27: Hey. Me too.
Columbia on STS-107: How could you even survive that? I died on reentry.
Not a good joke considering 7 people died. be sensitive
I feel this is only something the God's should be witnessing.. I pray we haven't angered them Just saying.
"nah, i'd re-enter"
this is exactly the music, just right for this kind of video
I wouldn't call it breaking apart, the skin got burn through then the layer's slowly banana peeled off. The flap continued to function.
That Legendary Flap give me motivation and energy to live forward my whole life❤🎉
I was hoping it was going to explode 😭
The little flap that could
Steel is amazing
Awesome
needs a total redesign
Nope version 2 moves the hinge out of the slipstream already - this just confirms what they were already in the process of doing
Hey thanks for that gem of knowledge. Which rocket did you help design? Oh wait.
@@Derek-je6vg so, a total redesign, eh?
@@cobeeble don't downplay that Estes resume, fan boi
@@newdebate no - just moving the hinge leeward
