      It had a few disconnects, with one lengthy one, from Starship, but other than that it's mindblowing to even be able to see these things. Without starlink, this would not be possible.
      Other companies and even entire countries will take years to even get close to that.

    Love how you explain and narrate everything vs the channels that use AI keep it up

    • @justiceifeme
      @justiceifeme 8 дней назад

      Ironically, if what I suspect is the case for this video at least, the narration for this video is most likely AI generated based off the usual human narrator's voice for this channel.
      It's noticeable if you're an avid viewer and can spot the subtle changes in speech mannerisms, like for instance, the slower cadence and slightly different inflections in some of the phrases he normally uses.
      Don't get me wrong, it's still very good and easily goes unnoticed for newer viewers of this channel that it's probably AI generated, which just goes to show how good AI voice cloning has gotten recently.
      The actual narrator recently mentioned he was getting married and wouldn't be available for a while, so using an AI voice clone might just be a compromise for convenience sake.
      I can't say for sure that it is or isn't, but either way, my point is you shouldn't knock out channels for simply using AI voices, some of them at least do good work with them and manage to make great content out of it.

      Sub orbital hop. But SpaceX starship will only meet its objective when it is significantly cheaper than a single use rocket. Right now, using Liquid methane, Starship just does not have the deltaV to get to the moon without 14 extra launches for refueling. A single use SaturnV can go to the moon.
      Reuability is not the goal... Space shuttle was reusable but it was barely competitive against single use heavy rockets. Better economics than a single use rocket is the goal.

I imagined the Moon and Mars and other planets like Venus and Jupiter being visited , what’s that?, hey for the last two planets I was still only a kid. It’s taken awhile and I thought we were so close in the late 60s’ and the early 70s’ but social pressures and lack of money derailed the majority of the program. Right now I’m really excited and hoping to last long enough to see humanity make it to Mars, if not farther.

    Yeah when I was watching the ship survive re-entry I felt the same way. SpaceX proved the concept in this test, this to me was like the Wright brother's first six seconds of airtime. It wasn't much but from there it's just an exercise of improving what has already been proven to be possible that was thought to be impossible yesterday.
    ITF5 will be amazing, I am hoping for the one month turnaround but with the wealth of data SpaceX got from 4 I'd rather they take the time to give flight 5 maximum odds at catching the booster and preparing the second tower just in case the first one is going to be undergoing maintenance by the time the want to fly 6. Also I hope the SpaceX team took a day off to just celebrate the achievement. Celebrating the victories is very important to keep up the desire for victory.

    Do you think they will give up on conventional rockets propelling Starship to the moon/ other planets? The refueling launches seem a bit much. Perhaps, switch to an ion engine or nuclear?

  • @svOcelot
    @svOcelot 8 дней назад

    Very cool analysis -- Thank you! There's a lot of talk about to catch or not to catch. One possible solution to finding out how accurately the booster can land is to let it land on a designated landing spot first, like they did with Star-Hopper & those earlier Starships. This would tell us a LOT, without risking the tower & all of Stage-zero.
    But I wonder what instruments the SH booster (& F9) use for their landings? I notice that F9 rarely hits the center of the circle on the drone-ships. The SHB will have to do significantly better. What instruments does it use? GPS, obviously, but that's not really accurate enough by itself. They could setup a Differential GPS transmitter somewhere nearby, which would be accurate enough, but those typically have fairly short range, so the signal would only be acquired in the final seconds of SHB's decent.
    Teslas use a lot of visual imagery, & perhaps the SHB could as well. That requires significant processing power, but chips are small, light, & relatively cheap. The main problem with this is the complexity involved, & having to reprogram it for each landing that's in a different location.
    Thoughts?

    The early, small sparks are apparently just rough edges being knocked off the tiles

    Great progress, especially considering flight one was the spin test and flight two tested the self destruct.

    The hot stage ring is disconnected because the header tanks that hold the fuel for landing burns was only built large enough to provide enough fuel for the weight of the booster without a hot stage ring. Because the hot stage ring was added after IFT-1, the already built boosters will not be able to land properly with the extra mass. Once they've used up the existing boosters with smaller header tanks, they can begin to use boosters with larger header tanks that can provide enough fuel for a landing burn of a heavier booster.
    Oh, and a small detail on the newer design of the upper flaps, they will be placed a bit more leeward, instead of being at 180 degrees from each other. This allows the hinge of the flaps to be contained behind the body of the ship itself, and prevents the hinges from ever being exposed to the air flow of reentry. It's also why the flaps look a little different, as they are currently larger than they need to be, so the new ones will be smaller, but wider to reach out far enough beyond the body of the ship to enable the same control authority.

    Mr. Race, or may I call you Space? Great channel and great episode as always. Question: when the stage separation ring floats off from starship, it looks like it floats into some clouds or a white, milky area.... What is that?

      That was pretty weird. It looks like it's on the camera lens... maybe ice?

    I like how he chose to use antipathetical thermo dyroids instead of constentalized crystal sipodids. Amazing power transfer between kemtoids instead to the lag and the hemopes look way cooler with the flat duffs. Great video but you didn’t even mention all the heliopods.
