The Best Sleeping Position to Prevent Facial Wrinkles

  • Dermatologists and chiropractors are telling women to sleep on their back to prevent facial wrinkles. This is a bad idea since most modern humans can’t breathe properly while sleeping on their backs. This is due to slowly shrinking faces and airways over the past 100 years, mainly due to the modern soft Western diet, infant bottle-feeding, and multiple exposures to environmental toxins. In fact, for most people, sleeping on the back may cause more facial wrinkles due to much lower sleep quality.
Shrinking of the facial bones causes wrinkles to be more pronounced as you age or have poor health habits since there’s less structural support to stretch out the skin. Internally, narrowed jaws lead to laxity of upper airway soft tissues, predisposing to more narrowing while sleeping on the back, muscle relaxation during sleep, inflammation, and swelling, or even weight gain.
Medical complications happen if you’re normally a side or stomach sleep and are forced to sleep on your back (due to an injury or surgery), or voluntarily (recommended by doctors). Strategies are provided to be able to sleep on your side more comfortably.

I did train myself to sleep on my back. It did help the wrinkles around the side of my mouth and side of face. So for that alone i will keep doing it. On top of it my teeth grinding has stopped in this position. Never had any sinus problem ever. I wake up just as well rested as before when I slept on my side. I can only speak for myself but i’m perfectly happy with having made the change to sleeping on my back.

@@ghizlane770 I do not really have a particular tip. I think the first few days I just waited till I was very very tired as then I would fall asleep even flat on my back. And then after a couple of days it felt normal to sleep in this position. Humans are creatures of habit i suppose. Now I love sleeping on my back only, it would feel weird if I tried to sleep in any other way 😇

Sleeping at the left side is said to improve metabolism with a silk pillowcase that help prevent wrinkles while sleeping on the back is good position too for breathing properly & avoiding wrinkles, it also depends on the shape & texture of the pillow though. I prefer always clean, fragrant, smooth & soft ones plus a mosquito net to avoid harmful bugs on my sleeping area. Thank ü for d video Doc!

I use a humidifier in order to breathe. I like eucalyptus 100% pure essential oil, a few drops into the water of the humidifier, if I don't use the humidifier, I can't breathe well.
I sleep on my side, so I bought a Bliss pillowcase. It helps the facial wrinkles and feels cool.
I also bought a My Pillow and it works well...I've tried many different, expensive ones that didn't work. Also, I got a Rx for Trazodone, 50 mg. Best solid sleep that I've had in years, I'm 70 and haven't slept well for decades. With this combination, I'm a happy camper 😊 Tip: for men and women, take pumpkin seed oil to eliminate all of those trips to pee at night...works Very well for myself and both male and female friends. And, it's good for you!

He explained at the beginning that its a fallacy to say theres a position to prevent wrinkles. He said the only wrinkles dermatologists are referring to are lines made by pillows and those bounce back once your up. Wrinkles are caused by many other factors as he listed, and it has more to do with facial structure and lack of sleep so he says go back to sleeping in a position thats comfortable and keeps your throat open not closing as in sleep apnea because then your tired and that helps age you.

I’m a heavy set medicated person that’s a side sleeper but I noticed when I was a lot lighter thinner, I would sleep on my back like a baby and would wake up so refreshed. I was also sleeping on the floor with layers of comforters on my back when I was thinner which I heard is great for your body to sleep on a hard surface. But I would only suggest it if you don’t have apnea and your light on your feet.It really feels good to be lighter on my feet in a lot of ways.So I’m working getting off the meds to get back lighter again.
I didn’t know that a kind of pillow could help though. Thank you for what you do!

I'm a diehard stomach sleeper. I usually start on my side but as I drift off, my body just rolls over on my stomach. I have always wondered why I am so drawn to that position. I sleep quite well despite the fact I turn 70 in ~8 weeks. I know many struggle with sleep as they age. I have an off night maybe every couple months.... but overall I sleep very soundly. I wake up rested and energetic. Now I'm reading research linking poor sleep habits with cognitive decline. Whew. I dodged a bullet on that maybe. I hope to continue to be the good sleeper I am now. Thanks for your excellent videos.

The Prophet Muhammad ☮️said that the most comfortable, natural way was for us to sleep is on our sides, specifically right side, because it aids in digestion. I started back sleeping due to joint replacement. I have gotten more wrinkles and jowls very suddenly, not to mention sinus issues for the first time ever. My orthopedic surgeon laughed and said whatever way you are comfortable, that it is worth more to enjoy a restful sleep than anything! 💤 Sleep well, everyone!!

I prefer to sleep on my sides even though I do try so hard to sleep on my back with all the anti-ageing 'gurus' advising us to do that. It is just too hard. Comfort is more important for me, sleeping on my side makes me feel secure and fall asleep faster. It is not because I have dental work done before, no braces and not entire straight teeth too, it is just me. I have very big square jaw when younger but now it has shrunk due to ageing on top of having a few molars removed contributing to bone loss.

I always go to sleep on my front and I love it but I usually wake up on my back with my arms above my head which is how I slept as a child. The right pillows are essential. I think perhaps that the nutrients that are missing from our soil or even not enough vit D at vital growth times may be causing our jaws to be more narrow. When I was young, I always slept on my side. In the best physical shape of my life, i would be knocked out on my back. I am still in good shape but cannot sleep on my back. It is always on my side.
Has anyone else changed sleeping positions during their life?

Slept last night as I used to when I was much younger and could get up in the morning without stiffness or dizzyness. Will have to see if this works out for a longer period - if not I will change positions more often to get benefits of several positions. Thank you, slept wonderfully!

I find it comfortable sleeping at a slant. I can breathe better as my sinuses drain and I do not get congested. There is nothing pressing on my face. Therefore, there are no wrinkles. A small, soft pillow to support my neck is sufficient.

I just started mouth taping and sleeping on my back. 😅 Now, I kinda just let my body go where it wants so I get a deep sleep which is on my side. I love the mouth tape because it makes you breathe through your nose. All this talk about sleeping 😴 is getting me sleepy.😂

Hi Doc Steven, you had mentioned about the type of pillow that you are currently sleeping on - Asian Husk-Filled Pillow with a Wooden Dowel inside, usage of nasal dilator strips, may I know where can I get them. I am more comfortable to sleep on my side since young. But strangely, I began to have numb arms when I woke up even though I am sleeping on contour pillow. I tried changing to sleeping on my back but somehow I will tend to sleep on my side in the middle of my sleep.

      @doctorstevenpark  Год назад

Rayna, I took a standard husk-filled pillow and cut an appropriate 1/2 inch dowel and placed it in the middle of the bottom end of the pillow. There's nothing I know of like it you can buy. If you can't sleep on your side, the use a "contour'-type pillow to bend your head back a bit to open up your airway. Good luck!

Thank you Doc, may I know what brand would you recommend for the husk filled pillow. I heard some testimonials that there are insects in the pillow after some time.
