According to some accounts we are lucky to have this song because Jackson's producer Quincy Jones didn't want it on the album. Cornell version is very good!
Connor Barry I'm going to be really honest to myself here. I adore the original, but with that said only until this cover the lyrics took me on a really epic emotional journey. Before it was a fun dance song because of the great dance beat. But played like this it really makes the great lyrics stand out
he killed this version.. go Chris! Michael Jackson would be pleased. just listen to that beautiful haunting voice in the echo. damn. a handsome, talented man rip..you will be missed. you were a brilliant singer.
Brutal just BRUTAL!! What a tremendous change in tempo and time from Michael's original!! Love that guttural, Alpha male voice!! Band was awesome too esp. lead guitar.
love it when muscians cover songs they love. it gives the listener a new perspective on a song they may have heard a hundred times before therefore creating a new appreciation for the original
I grew up with Steve Perry as one of the greatest rock singers ever. Chris in his prime was just amazing! His voice is a once in a generation type thing. You just close your eyes and hear this voice and you're elevated to another place. Chills!!!
Rest In Peace Chris Cornell, the man, the legend with one of the best voices that has graced my ears. Say Hello to Heaven for the millions of heart broken fans 💔
You were my idol, without you and your music I would have ended it in my teenage years. Thank you for giving me life brother. I hope you find the peace you deserve in the afterlife, you'll always live on in the hearts of your fans.
Yeah - he was here on the acoustic tour in 2016 or maybe even early 2017, and I had jobs, but figured at his age I still had time. Should have learned with Gary Moore. Live and learn - just got ticket for Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
i heard that Soundgarden was a part of a rock fest a little while back in October of last year, unfortunately where the venues that were apart of this festival were was far from where I live so I couldn't go but there were plenty good artists I enjoyed from the line up and would have loved to have gone. the most we can do now is to go and see another artist or band we really enjoy before it becomes too late. be happy for the things you've already done or accomplished and try not to weep so much over what we didn't or couldn't accomplish.
You can't listen to a cover and expect it to sound the same... ANYONE can do that... Chris took this song and sang it from HIS point of view... made it HIS... I LOVE MJ.... and I think this cover does him AWESOME justice.
Well, they both use an arpeggio'd E minor chord (arpeggio is when you pluck out a chord a single string at a time).... I think the order in which the strings are plucked in the two songs is SLIGHTLY different but basically yes, they are very similar.
Not 1 of my faves!! But there's no denying the fact that Chris Cornel has to be considered one of the best lead singers in Rock & Roll History!!! "EVER" What a Voice!!!
I couldn't make it through this without losing it. The tears flooded my face the way his angelic yet forceful wail flooded a room. So thankful to have heard him sing live three times, twice with Audioslave and once with a reunited Soundgarden. My heart is broken.
It was, and still is the hardest of any "celebrity passing". That one you hear about and automatically research everything you can because it can't possibly be true. I'm sobbing even as i write this. I didn't even know him yet it hurts like he was family. 💕 👊
Amazing cover! To my opinion much better than the original, but to give credits to MJ I must say the lyrics are very touching...although this blues version makes the words really deep... ”And be careful of what you do 'cause the lie becomes the truth…”…so true in many ways…RIP MJ and CC
Every time I watch this video, it sends chills down my spine. The way he sings this, so much more emotion than the original, and a darker edge which really hits it out of the park
Never ceases to amaze me. Took a song I was not interested in and totally transformed it. I bow to you Mr. Cornell. You are the reason I stretched my vocal range from standard rock alto, to high alto with extreme falsetto. Thank you sir.
Damn it Chris!! I miss you, and love you! I hope you're riffing it up with MJ and Prince, Mr. Petty, David Bowie, Dolores Claiborne, damn, just too many. 😢😢😢😢💔💔💔
this BILLIE JEAN cover is bone chilling.i honestly can say he is a voice that's helped me get through some rough times back in the day.and still to this day he is one of the voices I continue to listen to at times when I'm in deep thought
Cornell just has this incredible gospel sound to his voice. He definately has the greatest range ive ever seen in a rock vocalist. Vedder differs from him in that he doesnt have quite the range, but the harmony in his voice reminds me a 12-string guitar; just rich and full, like hes singing in multiple octaves all in stereo. The two are different, but both INCREDIBLE vocalists in their own right.
I've always thought this was one of my most favourite MJ songs. Well, I've just changed my mind. Great composition! Thanks. And thanks David Cook for bringing it to my attention.
This is one of the best covers of a classic song that I have ever heard. Fantastic. Takes a boatload of courage to cover a MJ song. CC covers it and hammers it well. Bravo mate. You did it.
Man, who knew Billie Jean could be a blues ballad? Chris Cornell, that's who. We lost an icon, a true genius. Thank you Mr. Cornell for everything...
You said it perfectly!
A tip : watch series on KaldroStream. Me and my gf have been using it for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Denver Elisha Definitely, I have been using kaldrostream for months myself =)
According to some accounts we are lucky to have this song because Jackson's producer Quincy Jones didn't want it on the album. Cornell version is very good!
He turned it into a blues song. I’m crying. He had a way of interpreting lyrics that maximized emotional response. Heartbroken for him and his family.
chester was right.. the most beautiful voice in rock and roll.
And now both are dead. :((((((
Cornell and chester both amazing and gone to soon
Him And Layne.. greatest voices ever and the biggest. Bleedin legends 😌🖤

Such a legendary version of this song, rest in peace Chris Cornell, a musical genious
When I first heard this song on his new album I didn't recognize it at first. That must be the sign of a good cover. Chris Cornell can do no wrong.

3:03 - 3:14 This is why people love to Chris so much. He went that extra mile. Even if it’s “just” a verse or pre-chorus.
RIP Chris. Those vocals make angels cry.
Never paid attention to this song for all these years... Then this version, holy shit, thanks again Chris, just amazing.

Intro is like Billie jean on Nothing else matters guitar chords! Sounds beautiful :P
Smooth Criminal Have we just been hit by and struck by the smooth criminal? Is Annie okay? Can she tell us that she's okay?

Wow! Gave me chills. Chris Cornell voice changes the mood of this song. Giving it extra energy that expressed a darker sadder melody altogether
The ONLY one that could pull this off!
Reaching too far with that.
I haven't seen anyone casually singing his ass of like this since Marvin Gaye. He makes it look effortless!
great version.
Just love the slow blues version. Thanks MJ!!!
