Have always LOVED Rene Dupree as a performer! He was safe/solid in the ring and always improving, while being a literal fucking kid. Dude was a TEENAGER, built like a Vince fever dream and had a natural heel charisma on the mic. Imagine if he came up in recent NXT and had time to improve both in ring and on mic. If he spent 2 yrs. there, would be an absolute BEAST at 21 yrs. entering the main roster. IF ever booked (pretty big if) as more than the cowardly womanizer, foreigner...he had the tools to be a upper midcard mainstay and possibly evolve into the world title scene. I don't care how WWE rubbed salt in his wounds,by making that kid who needs a haircut tag champ! HUGE ASTERISK! Rene was a LEGITIMATE tag champion as a fucking TEENAGER! A first Rd blue chip player like him, should have had more eyes on him,to help guide his career and keep the JBL's/Holly's from incessantly breaking his balls, trying to force him out. Hazing is one thing.... harassment is another. Rene was JAAAAACKED, and should have fucking cracked either of them......but they golf w)Vince, so tough spot. Dupree and la Resistance got heat from the fans. Yet it was clear that Vince had Renee pegged as the breakaway singles star yet still had him on training wheels and would not allow him to take them off. Hunter even challenge grenade saying it's easy to get heat with a French flag behind which Renee took to heart. And if you watch that era Renee got heat based on his character and especially his treatment of women. On the flip side, there was a time where the fans began take to Renee and actually cheer him quite often during his matches. It was enough to make one Wonder if the fans were beginning to see this pompous chauvinistic egomaniacal Frenchman as a baby face!.….... Which culminated into huge pops whenever he introduced his taunt which along with taz's call of it seem to change perception of the possible heel, into maybe more of a baby face. His taunt was called
The" French tickler dance"unquote, and it involved him introducing his ab work looking out at the crowd proudly and fluidly leaping from his left foot to his right with his hands at his sides as if to say, "This is how I roll", and along with taz's commentary of"I am a French man and I like to dance we French man like to dance romance" etc.(would change sometimes)
As ridiculous as this sounds Dupree was getting super over because his taunt actually fit his character so well! But we know how Vince who is supposed to do his best to make popular stars seems to like to do things his way and if a popular wrestler has something going on his own which events didn't create it will often be smashed and swept by the wayside as if it never happened and Vince will come up with something for the aforementioned wrestler.
      For example, remember......
" I'M AFRAID I'VE GOT SOME BAD NEWS"! Wade Barrett did EVERYTHING WWE asked of him and came up w/something that the audience LOVED and was excited to work on/evolve. ......then Vince said
"You are a heel. I don't want the fans cheering heels"! (Then turn him face, he had nothing going on) .......but don't worry Wade, Ol'Vince had BIG plans for you..........
" All hail KING(most garbage, thrown together, partially non revised tourney) BARRETT"! Poor Wade had to walk out there in that cartoony bullshit costume.....but it gets even better Wade.... LEAGUE OF NATIONS!!! WOW!
I respect Wade for leaving. After being in something that fulfilled him creatively and actually GOT OVER(which isn't easy), he had to completely ditch BNB and be a cartoon henchmen, in a party city costume!
In a professional team oriented environment, I think Dupree had the potential to be a top guy. Imagine, being a nineteen yr. old champ!
I would also love to confirm w/Rene ,that once the "FT" starting getting over, did Vince order him to stop using the taunt?
That experience being in WWE that young and not realizing there is literally trouble all around you and ppl out to get you, to keep their spots etc, must have been rough.
I am POSITIVE this dude wanted to drop a bomb on Holly or JBL or whoever, but it ts tough....cuz like, they're your Father's age and you don't know if you would get fired/suspended etc. Sure homeboy portrayed a cowardly heel, but he was fucking SHREDDED! Not ashamed to say, that Rene was my benchmark/goal when I was a gymrat. Got in SIIIIIIIICK shape, just electric. Ddnt use the gas! Lol.
And to this day,the "French tickler" is my main taunt. After work, we went to Kings bowling/bar/lasertag etc. across st. THREE strikes in a row, three FT's and some heat! WORTH IT! Wish this guy well forever!

But I think a lot of those demons probably surfaced and stemmed from his wedding storyline being botched and mishandled so poorly and him being made to look like such weak/dumb dolt. Triple H literally buried him to a point that it took him years to climb out of the hole just to form relevant tag teams with Albert and Scott's Steinner etc and he is lucky to have gotten that far considering that burial.

When I was a gymrat, then starting going at it hard, Rene Dupree was my goal/Obi Wan. Lol. I had just gone through an awful breakup,so spending 3 hrs.a.m / 3-5 p.m helped me to avoid those feelings and steadily gain confidence as I saw results. I am lucky to have great genetics and solid metabolism, so I was getting shredded and gaining mass weight quickly. As he may have mentioned, the key things to train that go overlooked, are traps/lats, legs. Those things put your entire body together. I assumed Dupree was on the gas, since he was at it his entire life etc. heard London saying Rene lactated cuz of them, lol. But aside from rumors, I still sat idk if he juiced. I got into amazing shape w/o juice. So hope he did too . Please read my second reply for the top question post. Wrote there by accident, but RD got the shaft!
A dude built like a Vince fever dream ,who is a safe worker and always improving and will definitely get better. He is magic on the mic and charismatic, really being able to lean into his character........at NINETEEN YEARS OLD!!!
Rene was a 1st Rd. Blue chip pickup! If Vince had eyes on this guy and made sure all he had to do was train+work+get better, rather than trying to figure out the pitfalls of the life, w/the Bradshaws/Holly types trying to fuck with him/hold their spots. Kid probably wanted to crack one of them. Again. 270 guy fuckin' zero % body fat could catch anyone on the button.....but Vince lackies. What is this KID supposed to do?
Horribly structured business model in general. Got better w/NXT, but that is a Pritchard plaything now. But Rene in NXT training 2 yrs., then debuting on main roster as a 21 trained up animal! Timing is everything.
As I mentioned in other spot......the "French tickler" is still my ace in the hole taunt, that I bust out when I smash something worthy of it!
I would love to ask Rene if Vince/WWE asked him to curb the "French tickler"when it started getting over, because of the OCD "heels shouldn't be cheered" shit.
Like the way Wade Barrett organically grew the "I'M AFRAID I'VE GOT SOME BAD NEWS"!BNB character and got it waaaaay over, but Vince shut that shit down, made him King of the ring, when it meant nothing but having to wear that AWFUL King costume, then to boot, lumped him into the league of nations.....and he tapped and left WWE. Who could blame him. So,yeah, just wondering if Vince tried to squash the pops for the "French tickler",( especially called by Taz.lol)
Dude, I am going to start watching your Japan stuff, cuz you were an AMAZING all around talent and could/should have been SO much more. Look at WWE's business model/recruiting strategy is TODAY. Now imagine that 19 y/o Rene Dupree, carved from granite, able to not only cut promos, but elavate the promo work of others in the scene. He can also work.....and work safely and professionally. Understands the way to work matches and actually sell and tell a story etc. He would be the Vince prototype! Vince would drop his drink, barreling past a disappointed Bron Breaker and Von Wagner!

This guy was a victim of the wrong timing for his career. Being the new guy he probably just thought it best to take the verbal punishment when in reality he probably coulda beat the hell out of JBL. Dude didn’t look like he could fight on tough enough. And of course theirs Joey Styles. Lol.

He also told guys backstage that he wanted to kick my ass after I referenced a lose to Rey Mysterio but I hope he took it in gest. H was a really nice guy.

Actually great foresight to realize the US population being 4-5% of the world's population but WWE gave him exposure to the entire world that he has plenty of fans elsewhere he can perform in front of.

Your interview with his son David is one of my favorite interviews of yours. I just wish someone could’ve prevented that tragedy from happening. So sad.

He was one of my favourites. Very impressive with that physique at 19 years old. I hated how they always pushed him first and then buried him shortly after. I was especially hyped for his feud with Cena over the US Title, and it sucked that it was so one-sided and got cancelled after just 2 PPV matches ...
But the other members from La Resistance got no better treating after all.
