Chris and his family is a tragic story and I feel too many paint him as just a pure monster rather than a guy with mental issues that was watching his world crash around him. Not excusing his actions but its sad to hear he wanted to escape and couldn't. May him, Nancy, and Daniel rest is peace. It's really a shame to see a guy fall from grace and take his family and his legacy with him....

CTE 100% proven in the autopsy his father ordered. Like a lot of NFL players at the time, he was described as an 80-something advanced dementia brain in his 40-something body with the added effects from steroid use and who knows what else. It was in the newsletters back then, I recall vividly.

Another great episode! Good job guys. I've listened to pretty much everything out there about Benoit bc he was my favourite as a kid. Rene offers interesting insight about Benoit wanting to leave WWE. For an extreme perfectionist like Chris, I imagine the desire to leave WWE after Eddie died and the pressure to stay to provide the same standard of living for his family was an unbearable conflict and very likely contributed to his instability towards the end of his life. I'm surprised more hasn't been said about this.

You know Rene, people want to pin Benoit's death on one thing but you really can't. It was a cullmination of issues that broke the man and the list is long. Eddie's death, drug's,concussion's,his anxiety about his carrer and maritial issues and his son's growth problem. It came to a breaking point over that weekendand the guy everyone knew and loved was lost in madness and two innocent lives were lost. It's tough to be a fan of Chris. On one hand I follwed the career of one of th best and in the end he became a murderer. And of his own child. How can anyone admire someone that did that? But I remind myself that I'm watching the man that everyone knew before it happened. But the cloud looms over it.Just wanted to chime in on my thought's.

I’m similar in a sense. As a kid he was one of my favorites and being young it was hard to grasp how his life ended. At as adult now I recognize how talented he was but I’ve probably watched less than five of his matches since. As much as I want to enjoy it it’s kinda difficult with the reminder of how things ended.

Back in the day my friends dad was probably the first smart mark I ever met. This was around 97-97 before everyone was on the internet being able to find out every lil detail about the business. His dad was from 5th ward Houston (a notoriously bad part of Houston) and a marine who served in Vietnam and rarely gave any of the wrestlers props as being true tuff guys other than Harlem Heat (from Htown as well). He would always give props to Benoit though. He’d say that’s one whiteboy I wouldn’t want to fight. Benoits shit was that damn good and legit looking he could convince the hardest of critics he was nuts, unfortunately it ended up being true.

Rene is right but it's the entire nature of their business. Seeing how Mick and Terry are "fine" I'm not buying headshots with chairs so much as making your signature the flying headbutt for what did Benoit in, afterall he wasn't a hardcore guy who was constantly taking chair shots. Harley Race could barely walk because of the flying headbutt and warned Benoit about it. However all those falls, sudden stops, etc can't be good for the brain just the entire nature of what they do. Makes you wonder how bad shoot fighting was in the late 1800s if this is the safer version of that or maybe it's just that wrestling got too over the top with moves that basically have to be gymnastic in nature to truly look damaging. Probably isn't helping that none of those guys are allowed to have much fat or they just have to be ungodly obese so the guys who do take all those falls have no cushioning.
To be honest I think they used Benoit as the excuse to end the edgy stuff. I realize now the more I consider things if AOL Time Warner wanted WWF they would have contacted VKM because that TNN deal would have been around the time AOL knew what they were going to do to WCW. Which means AOL really did kill WCW because wrestling had this stigma as trashy irredeemable entertainment at the time.
Judging from how no matter how much every other form of entertainment has caught up to the South Parks, Jerry Sprigners, WWF, and Jackass of the late 90s/early 00s it's obvious VKM is keeping any sort of effort to bring it back down. I don't know how we can have the Wire, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, etc and yet wrestling went back to Saturday morning crap since 2008 and got WORSE as it adds in woke stuff.
So i truly think VKM realizes deep down he didn't win so much as he killed his competition by turning into something most channels didn't want on air anymore at that time. Benoit is the excuse and you notice it was shortly after that and right before the network when they made all their revisionist history documentaries.
It fits a narrative like we had this great TV, that was still quite watchable even without the Rock and SCSA, and then that evil Benoit lost his marbles and killed his whole family and VKM just had to tone it down then. Yeah right, from hearing the AE guys it's obvious VKM was wanting to cool it down even then.

Why does that dude on the left keep saying that he's not going to mention any names but then he just seems to forget that he just said that because he then just goes on to say Randy Orton or someone's name anyway??

Renee I gotta ask you, in any WWE video games that contain Chris Benoit, I personally yank him out of the roster, never play him or go against him
After what he did I can't even look at him on a Video Game.
My friend says there's nothing wrong with picking him, and that it does mean you support him..
But I feel my ethic morals are too set in stone, so I pretend he's not even in the game.
Even if that technically was Chris before he snapped due to losing Eddie and the CTE, it's just a grim reminder. So I just try to avoid him as much as possible.
Plus I don't want my nephew asking me who Chris Benoit was. Explaining what happened to a seven year old would be cruel and terrify him...

Wow you're a real hero. Benoit became what the fans and Vince turned him into. If you watched weekly as he took shots to the head you contributed. But typical twat ignoring the part he played in creating a monster.
