    Thank you for a great video! I've been at my 1997 for about 2 months as well. It would die after warming up (and a new CPS didn't help). Now it cranks, bot doesn't fire and no smoke. New oil, fuel filter, and IPR valve haven't helped. I also can't communicate with the PCM with scan tools, but the Wait to Start light comes one. I'm now thinking my PCM and/or IDM is bad. Where did you get your rebuilt PCM from? I've heard good things about Diesel Technology of Chattanooga and thinking I should spend the money to have both my PCM and IDM bench tested and potentially replaced by them. Plus they can do a $150 performance flash of the PCM for some modest, safe gains.

      Crank/no start and you can't communicate with the pcm makes me think it might be that. Make sure the cam sensor is working when cranking the rpms will move. I've had idms go bad too that could be it. I have 2 of the obs 7.3s so I swapped parts in and out until I figured out what was wrong. I was lucky and rock auto had the exact pcm I needed but local junk yards might have them but need the exact one for that truck. Good luck!

      @@barnsandbrews Thank you! My CPS is new and working. I ended up shipping out my IDM and PCM to Chattanooga. We'll see what they find during bench testing. Fingers crossed they're not both working properly because I don't know what else it could be if it's not the electronics.

      My truck started running real bad and i thought it was the valve cover gasget, after taking it a part , it wasnt the problem , a new IDM fixed it , it was basicically running on 4 cyl pesenger side , i found out by letting it warm up and the exhaust manifold on driver side stayed cold , hope this helps

    So I am having a problem with mine as well it was half a tank Monday went and put some hotshot fuel treatment with filling her up ran great the whole day woke up Tuesday ran great to town got to the store heading home and shuts off didn’t want to start back up got home could have been the battery cables that was terrible replaced them then found out it wasn’t the cables so now it wasn’t getting fuel but the filter filled up so i knew it wasn’t the pump then got told the icp sensor needed to be checked if oil was on it that it was causing the fuel problem thoughts????

  • @Cfass1

    I would have guessed it was the IDM over the ECM. Especially since it appeared to be a whole bank misfiring.

    I have a 96 that starts easy cold and drives fine .. idle could be better.. but once it’s at operating temperature and I turn it off to go into a store or something it will not restart unless I give it some fuel into the turbo and it fires right up and drives fine again

      Maybe air is getting in the fuel system. Could be many things. I'd check fuel pressure first. My truck would run for awhile fine too when warm then wouldn't be able to start it. Turned out to be pcm. Good luck!

    • @barnsandbrews

      If it starts probably not the valve cover gaskets. My guess would be start checking the sensors. Disconnect the icp see if it does the same thing. Could be ipr valve or cam shaft sensor or something else even

    Hey I was wondering if you can help me, I have a 1996 ford f250 powerstroke it starts up great but not even a second later it does actually what you're does in the video but here's the kicker if I just hit the gas and riv it it goes away and runs great for a few weeks any advice?

    • @barnsandbrews
      @barnsandbrews  Год назад +2

      Could be a lot of things. Mine was the pcm which would work sometimes then cut out. Could be fuel pressure if reving the truck fixes it, could be getting air in somewhere.

      @@drewdeitemeyer3617 I narrowed it down to the fuel bowl harness which the ipr is a part of, or the pcm. Haven’t looked at it. Been too busy but I’m pretty sure it’s one of the 2 or both. The wiring probably got wet and shorted out under the fuel bowl. Or pcm is just old and needs to be redone by a real diesel pcm repair place. I’m 100% sure it electronic though.

    Hey i have a 7.3L on a F350 im having hell getting it started. it will crank wont start. i replaced the IPR and the Cam Sensor. i unplugged the ICP to bypass that still didnt start. yesterday i drained the fuel bowl using the valve on the side. drained it went back to the ignite turned the key fired up INSTANTLY and died after 5 seconds. i went and got some diesel becuase i was at 1/4th a tank went to start it again FIRED right up. IDLED terrible! for like 5 minutes then the idle was fine i turned it off and started it again firing right up again running smooth. took it for a drive was perfect. came back the next day and the same thing as before cranks but wont start. ANY ideas? only has 131k miles on it

    • @barnsandbrews
      @barnsandbrews  Год назад

      Sounds like it's either a fuel issue or something electrical. Maybe check the fuel pressure and make sure the bowl is filling up with fuel. Might be pulling air in somewhere in the fuel system. Is it an obs or newer body style 7.3? Check the clips on the valve cover gaskets too, those are what fire the injectors and maybe there's a short somewhere in the wiring. Although your issues do sound a lot like the problems I was having and my truck needed a new pcm. Good luck!

    • @thevikingwolfpack836

    Dude I have no idea what’s wrong with my truck I just swapped a motor into my f350 it idles fine and sounds good but if I have it in neutral and rev it up to like 1500 rpm it starts to cut in and out like it’s running out of gas and when you drive it down the road it will start doing it about 2000rpm. I’ve changed so much stuff on this truck trying to fix it and still no luck. Hope it isn’t something internal. If anyone has a clue please help

    • @barnsandbrews
      @barnsandbrews  Год назад +2

      Sounds like it's not getting fuel or airs getting in somewhere. One time I had something similar happen where I could drive about 50 miles then my truck would act like it ran out of fuel and wouldn't run. I'd let it sit and in about the same amount of time it would do it again. Turns out there's a screen filter in the fuel tank and that broke into a bunch of pieces so every once in awhile a piece would get stuck to the bottom of the sending unit and rob it of fuel. Hope you get it running!
