2001 Ford F350 7.3L IDM Injector Driver Module test and Electrical tests for system in the Vehicle

- Hi all,
I want to share this testing on the IDM and all the necessary electrical test you can perform in the vehicle! So please take the time to watch the entire video.
Great video from an electronics technicians point of view, of which I have 42 years of experience in. From mechanics point of view of which I have decades in. I would start with the Ohms check from the IDM connector and ohms the wires from there up through the engine wiring harness through the Injector coils then back to the IDM. This way you can check to see if it's a wiring harness problem in one set of tests before even removing the IDM. If you don't find any wire problems then pull the IDM and send it to your for testing and repair. If you find a wiring problem, then leave the IDM installed and move to the Valve cover connector on the outside and use the UVCH Harness to ohm test the wires and the Injector coils without even pulling the Valve cover. If they're good, then you know the wiring problem is from the IDM connector to the Valve Cove connector. If you find a bad injector ohm, then pop the valve cover off and check that the inside connector hasn't come loose and do the 25 cent fix if it has, if not then find the loose connector or replace the Injector coil pack if it doesn't ohm good. Wow... I'm NOT into Diesel trucks but I do want to help a Good friend.. I've seen a lot of 7.3 videos BUT YOU ARE ON ANOTHER LEVEL... LOTS OF GREAT INFORMATION... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.... LOTS of ppl might not be able to understand you completely but I luckily am... I've repaired a few high dollar 4k TVs

Thank you. You gave me some food for thought but I'm still not sure where my problem is. My truck ran great one day and the next it was smoking (white) some backfire. RPMs won't go much over 2000. I've done a Buzz test some injectors were not as loud as others. Changed them all out. Checked the UVC harness. Changed out the engine harness. And took my IDM apart and looked at the capacitors. Seems my truck just wants to die. Idk what to do with the damn thing.
I need to add a thought to your explanation of the moisture in the IDM. Everyone thinks it comes from a leak in the vent hole. While it does enter via the vent hole it’s not a leak, but rather the moist air inhaled when the electronics cool after running, as running heats the the internal air causing it to expand and exhaust through the vent. As this happens on a regular daily basis the condensation builds up with no drain and eventually short out or corrodes the components.

Awesome video. Would you happen to have a schematic of all the components on the board? My IDM blew a few capacitors and i have no clue what ohm they are supposed to be and a few of them don't have any markings on them
