The reason why I Love and respect Eric Cogorno so much is that he shared the teachings of other golf teachers too not just his! Truly appreciate it sir!
Appreciate you guys! We want everyone to improve...no matter where the info is coming from! So many awesome coaches with great knowledge to share with us!
I 100% agree with you Huy!!! I truly feel like Eric is truly trying to help me get better at golf!!!!
Eric had run out of things to talk about. He's covered everything 3x's over. Why do you think he's branching out?
AWESOME Eric! I hope that your viewers find consistent KFC crispy golf shots from watching this episode. DON'T LEAVE THE WALL!
great stuff Tom
You are the MAN TOM!! You totally turned my golf game around! I got back into golf when covid started, had never broken 100, I’m now a solid 8 handicap. It all started with A LOT of your videos, A LOT. They were easy and made sense. I’ve then taken pieces of my favorite online coaches teachings like you, Eric and Gankas and built my swing. It’s been a really fun process. I tell people that I’ve never taken a lesson but I guess that’s not really true. I’ve taken thousands!
@@blackceeser thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
@@theeyesurgeon1 that's awesome, Kyle! Congratulations on your success and thank you for supporting channels like Eric's and mine.
You da man, Tom!
Saguto is such a character. Makes golfing fun, great that you two got together! Surprised Saguto didn't go into "Another Brick in the Wall"!
Haha he is great!
I love how you spend time with so many different teachers.Tom is a fun guy.
Appreciate it! Always good fun!!
I feel like I want to do this but my coach and other coaches like Larry Cheung recommend 80% weight on the trail leg then shift the weight forward right before the downswing starts. I feel like it’s possible to rotate and stay over the ball with no sway with the weight in the trail leg. Doesn’t this method cause a loss in pressure caused from the shift of proper sequence? .... not sure... do you teach this method?
@@kevinarbogast9309 Hi Kevin. This is such a complex subject. It's hard to know where to begin.
I think the style Tom is teaching here certainly has a place. For occasional players, less athletic, physically compromised, etc.
Good teachers, and I'm certain Eric would agree, don't just teach one method or style. So yes, this approach is definitely in the mix.
I'm gonna throw a concept out here because by what you said I think you might benefit.
I distinguish between "pressure shift" and "weight shift". And often I find developing golfers don't do this.
Wt. shift is when mass above your feet moves positioning it in different places above the feet, and pressure shift is when you de-weight a leg momentarily so pressure moves dramatically to one foot but no mass moved above .
So if you were standing in place alternating knee flexing pressure would be momentarily moving to each foot at 100pct to 0pct, yet no mass would be moving above.
As opposed to moving upper mass from over one foot to the other.
Ok, hope you got that.
Imo, there is very little "wt shift" in a great golf swing but immense "pressure shifting ".
So, what Tom is teaching here does not and should not eliminate pressure shifts .
Think about that for awhile.
Its the knees my friend.
@@555Trout yes! Makes total sense! That helps a lot actually. When I practice “pressure” shifting while keeping weight centered with proper sequence things go very well. I don’t think I would get the same result if I didn’t have the help of ground force generated by the pressure.
@@kevinarbogast9309 🙂
Exactly. Ground forces are the whole enchilada.
This is such a cross-over like when Fonzi would be on the Laverne and Shirley show. Two of the best coming together for a perfect show.
Lol 😂
Lol thanks, Ron!
Hey Eric; I’ve seen some of Toms videos before he’s a funny guy and talks good golf. Love watching you two interact my golf world is now insynk. Love ya brother!
Thanks, John! Appreciate ya man!
Love Tom. He understands there are basically two types of golfers: on the one hand there are the athletes, who can hit anything with anything, have fabulous hand-eye coordination and will always make contact with the ball and on the other hand... us; Tom talks to us. However, on the downside he is slowly turning into a werewolf.
Haha he's awesome!
@@CogornoGolf Tom is great and so are you. I watch both of your channels regularly. Thank you!
Hahahha thats great! Both their channels have helpes me tons
I disagree he has turned into Wolverine!
Eric, I really commend you for doing what you do. You're very open-minded when it comes to the golf swing, and you value the input you get from other teachers...even if their philosophy doesn't totally marry up with your own. That seems like a simply thing to do, but it's surprisingly lacking out there in the real word. This particular video is made for me, as I simply cannot (no matter how hard I try) take a divot in front of a golf ball. I'm going to give this a try!
Appreciate the kind words and feedback, Rob! Hope is serves you well!
What a treat to have Tom and Eric together in a video- I watch both constantly and really appreciate both sharing their teachings on the same video. Bravo!!! Can’t wait to see both of you in person. I shared with Tom recently that my friends are now asking me to share my online lesson tips with them. They are making great progress now too!!
Appreciate the support, Kirk!!
You guys are a great combo! I found myself chortling more than a few times while watching this. Thanks for all you do for us duffers!
:) thanks Joe!!
This is seriously brilliant. I took a lesson a few months ago, and the instructor kept telling me, "Get off the ball. You need to get off the ball." He kept advocating for this big shift away from the ball in the backswing. I kept thinking to myself, why? It just didn't make any sense to me that I was adding this additional moving part to my swing. I hit the ball worse than ever after that lesson. I need less of that nonsense and more Saguto and Cogorno in my life.
:)
Golfers: Stack and Tilt until you know better
Thanks for the feedback, Mark!
Thank You. Over the years I've come to think that for the average golfing Joe S&T is the most accessable way to get to experience a decent round of golf. Paired with the throwing release a la Mike Austin (see Steve Pratt) many, many golfers would be a long way up the fairway and enjoying it immensely. Thats my personal story anyway.
Several ways to get the job done!
Very impressive the way Eric accepts other methodologies. I learned S&T 3 years ago because of sciatica. Most of the time now I use it for my irons. And a hybrid swing for driver. S&T keeps your head in the circle. All good golfers tilt. Many elite golfers don’t stack. But they’re hitting hundreds of balls a day. And they still keep their head in the circle albeit with some weight shift. Many mid to high handicap golfers would benefit from stacking and tilting. You just need to have an open mind. S&T is not snake oil. Try it ...it might work for you. So many ways to skin a cat. And straighten that trail leg on the way back 🙂
Appreciate the kind words and support, Martin!
Tom insists on breaking the fourth wall while telling us not to leave the wall. So meta, love it.
:)
For the average amateur who hits a hundred balls a week- Tom's method may have merit
Tom is awesome!
Is this method applicable only for iron shots? Thanks
I guess it’s very good and reliable for Irons to achieve a constant contact and AoA 3-5 degrees down to compress the Ball. With Driver I guess the weight in setup is different and you need more side bend to shallow and hit up 3-5 degrees. Good Question!
Here is more on differences between iron and driver: ruclips.net/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/видео.html
Awesome video! Can't wait to give it a try tomorrow. Shawn Clement with Wisdom in Golf teaches a very similar method.
Hope it serves you well, Mat!
Check out those sideburns like someone in the mid 1800s
I’m not impressed then walking to the camera. 😂
Interesting video and I can see how with irons having the more weight on the lead side promotes a more downward blow to the ball. I could also imagine there may be some tendency to try to help the ball up on the downswing. My other question is how does this work when it comes to the driver and longer clubs? Would love to see more on this in future videos.
Thanks! Definitely some adjustments with driver...more on that here: ruclips.net/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/видео.html
I started setting up where I cover the ball in a minny shadow. My body. By the time I complete my downswing? I am about to explode. Hit balls down into the ground. Don't pass the wall..pudding is buy a impact bag. Love saguro golf..
:)
It definitely works, I usually shot mid 90’s, and never broke 90. I shot a 78 my last round. I was on fire 🔥, all 3 phases was working.
Fantastic playing, Preston! Congrats on the personal best!!
I played baseball into college and have struggled with this exact issue in my golf game, too much swaying in my swing. I incorporated this technique into my game during 2 rounds this weekend. I generally shoot in the mid 80’s. This weekend I shot 82 and yesterday I shot my personal best round of 75!!!! Thank you so much for all that you do. My next goal is to break par.
Love to hear that Adam!!
Tom really like your videos. A suggestion for you. In your videos you may sdd stretching snd exercise routines to your training videos. I am 72 years old have in the last view years have found out tbe importance in gaining and improving my flexibility. Greg Edwards
Thank you for watching, Greg! Appreciate the feedback!
This is magic. I have been playing for a long time and am single digit HCP for a long time, this is great advice. I will start using this tomorrow, can’t wait to see the results.
Love it! Hope it serves you well, Ed!
Tom’s hair looks like he was around during the signing of the declaration of independence. Great lesson
Thanks Jason!
Eric is one of the greatest teacher out there, and not just regarding to golf, his teaching method is spot on for all aspects of study. His appreciation for all kinds of different golf coach and methods should help countless struggling golfers out there. And the way he is so focused and attentive to the opposite coaches when they talked shows that he is foremost a great student hence a greater teacher. 👍
Really appreciate the kind words and support, Marvin!
I'm just here for the comedy. Seriously Tom is entertaining. No doubt I'm gonna challenge that wall.
:)
Love it! My two favorite you tube instructors teaming up. If Mr. short game shows up testing out some new gear that would be epic.
This lesson reminds me of the carpenters compass a little where the left foot is the center needle point and the club face the outer part of the circle arc! Although not on a one dimensional flat plane.
Thanks guys
Appreciate it man!!
Thanks Eric I watch you both and respect
All your knowledge. I've been stack and tilt , if that's what you want to call it, for the past two years and it's effected
My ball striking abilities for the best especially the irons. Driver , well it's a steeper swing but I've learned to flatten my circle to come in nice and shallow with the big dog.
Appreciate the support my friend!
I can hit my irons using the one plane swing , but using a 3 wood is very difficult . WHY ?
Not sure Paul....I would need to see your swing on video to say for sure whats going on there and how to fix
Great video. When I can stay focused and follow this advice, I hit the crap out of the ball.
Love to hear that, Joe! Appreciate you watching!
Great collab, again, Eric! Thanks so much! You’re the best!
Appreciate it, Michael!
I bet those lamb chops play for Tom when he is gigging.
:)
Is this concept of putting your weight a little forward only for irons or is it for every club?
Could be just irons...could be all clubs. I would say weight more forward the shorter the club and less forward the longer (personally)
@@CogornoGolf yeah that definitey makes sense hahah thank you!
Great video. Stack and tilt does work. Keeping your weight forward makes for consistent ball contact. However, I found it difficult to generate significant club head speed. Once I started to shift my weight more, my club head speed increased more than 10mph for all clubs.
Thanks, Tom! Several ways to do it!
Thanks for always sharing different teachers swing philosophies. Great content!
Appreciate it, Ray!
Tom isn’t the hero we deserve, but he’s the hero we need
Lol
Oh yeah it works for the irons for sure!!!! But how about driver?
Check out Toms channel for more of his videos to see what he says about driver!
this dudes sideburns are NEXT level. Great tips too, awesome video!
Lol yes they are!
I noticed that Tom has an exaggerated weight shift to the front leg at address vs Eric. It does not look like any other golf address I have seen but trying this exaggerated position at address definitely helped me. That with visualizing the wall on the left side and head in circle have been great tips. My question relates to a trigger to start my back swing and how to bend the front knee. I found it helpful to start my back swing motion by starting to bend my front knee as the trigger which forces the shoulder movement down. Since my front leg is flared out and the weight is mostly on my front leg the knee bend also goes to the left or straight out instead of inward towards my back leg. Tom kinda is doing it like this but Eric's knee shifts a little towards the back leg on the back swing. I see the old time golfers doing this even more dramatically(Sneed). Am I seeing it right and how do you feel about triggering the back swing this way and the way I am bending the knee? Thanks
Hey Frank!
Yes....you are seeing that right.
Mines goes in a bit more to help me turn my hips more.
The lead knee NEEDS TO go down....the tilt to help keep inclination to ground.
In CAN (doesn't have to) go in....that helps the turn
I personally like to see the lead knee bend down and slightly in so the kneecap is right under the lead hip
More on that here that may help:

*it isn’t a reverse pivot if weight is on lead side*
Excellent comment
:)
Sorry, but Dustin Johnson pretty much stands on his back leg and shifts to his front. I like what you are showing but I don’t see the guys with power doing this?
Thanks for the feedback, Cory! Several ways to get it done!
@@CogornoGolf I love watching you both and appreciate your coaching. I seem to loose considerable distance when using the stack and tilt. I must be doing something wrong. I hit 300yrd + with my old swing, l only hit about 270yrd with S/T. I’ll keep at it and see what happens. Cheers 👍
crazy timing video.. I did this set up 55/45 at the range last night and the ball contact was just crispy. It was just a subtle adjustment with major impact.
Love it!
I watch Tom’s videos. I wish you would have talked about how not to lift and chop vs the weight shift. Tom’s stuff combined with some of your wrist action really changed my golf turn dramatically
Appreciate it--Tom is great! More to come!
After seeing the video today realised. ..Eric ur a gentleman...appreciate ur manners
:)
Not a big fan of Saguto's obsession with trying to hit like Ben Hogan. The sad part is that he actually does not really copy the Ben Hogan swing. He states that those old golfers kept their weight forward in the backswing....but that is completely wrong. He's just shortcutting what they actually did. If current pros kept their weight forward, they would never achieve the kind of yardages they achieve these days. The leverage achieved from the back foot plays a huge part in the power they achieve. I'm no fan at all of youtubers who shortcut golf swing dynamics....and then try to sell it as a good thing.
Nice vid. Tom is quite the character. This makes sense especially when the ball is on the ground. I can’t imagine it changing that much once it’s teed up?
Hey! Here is more on driver vs iron differences: ruclips.net/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/видео.html
Out of curiosity, how would this affect driver angle of attack?
Many of the setup differences involved between iron and driver.....more on that here

Hey Bill! Tom walks to his own tune....and I like that about him!
@@CogornoGolf Just kiddin' You guys are awesome.
Uhhh, my comment is "no comment." Entertained but absolutely not absorbing this information.
Thanks for the feedback, Matt! Hopefully you find value in future videos!
@@CogornoGolf Love your content man. Just not sure about this one...
@@CogornoGolf I guess the real question is, are you going to put this to work in your own game? I think I know the answer.
All good man!
If someone new to your channel watched this video and then the Josh Koch series, their head would explode!
Lol
You two have been my most watched over the past couple a years. Great stuff fellas! 🤜🏻
Appreciate ya man! Tom is great!
thought that was Jim Carrey doing a character at first...lol
Lol Tom may have some acting in his future :)
@@CogornoGolf Definitely. Ha ha. Great tips though. Really helps with striking consistently....by keeping that weight right you don't have to rely on some big shift. I was a hip slider for the longest time and these type of drills are what really helped me feel that weight posting up on the right side. More consistent striking and added about a club of distance on my irons. Keep it coming!
S&T is a great shortcut to a great swing...and it's hardly "new" given Hogan's swing, along with Snead's and others. Hogan advocated a weight shift to the right side, but in reality, his left knee dipped down (weight on the lead foot) and his right leg straightened. Plus, even though he had a slight shift to the right, at the same time his butt moved probably 5 inches towards the target at the top of the backswing which pre-loaded his weight to the left. S&T simply pre-positions the weight onto the left side to eliminate excess movement.
S&T is so easy that I feel like I"m "cheating". I never had a 5-inch bacon strip divots on wedges before with boatloads of spin. Plus, I have added at least 30 yards to my driver, maybe more, and I'm hitting 8 irons 160 vs. 140-ish with my "old swing". Great job Eric to introduce Tom and also S&T which is what many of us have already discovered and never looked back. There are still guys at my club who swing with a right side weight shift. The same one's who complain they never improve, but they're good at buying new clubs to "solve the problem". LOL.
:)
I live in Myrtle Beach and Litchfield CC is an underrated course. Very Nice layout.
I purchased the Stack 'n' Tilt DVDs when the system exploded in popularity, and liked much about it. Unfortunately, I'd had surgery on my lead knee 15 years prior, and shifting MORE weight onto my lead foot as the flex on the lead knee increased resulted in sharp pain in that kneel.
Cool place!!
Stack & Tilt having a revival??
Video on stack and tilt coming tomorrow!
Two of my all time favorites!! Awesome. More S&T principles:)
Thanks, David!
Can you use the same fondamental for a driver
Lots of the same....some differences here: ruclips.net/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/видео.html
Traveno swears by the wall. He said he feels like he is in side a door frame leaning on the lead side and don't come off it. He did pretty good.
Lol yes he was OK :)
I’m very disappointed the samurai sword did not make an appearance lol. Great video!
:)
Awesome, Eric. Enjoyed the combo lesson with Tom. My only question is I noticed Tom used an iron for weight on lead leg against the imaginary wall. Does he recommend the same approach with driver? Probably works with hybrids but not sure about the big stick. Thx
Thanks! We didn't do a driver video this time around but here is a video I did on iron vs driver differences: ruclips.net/video/TJtx-qVSgVU/видео.html
I’m 79 years old always been a single digit handicap. I’ve tried this shoulder down hit the wall technique for about a month. It has dramatically improved my ball contacts. My only regret is I didn’t start 30 years ago you hear too many people saying stack and tilt is a joke. It’s a perfect swing technique for seniors
👊👊
Am I understanding correctly that Tom is advocating for no real weight transfer in the backswing? It feels counter to what everyone else says. Thanks!
Hey Jesse! Yes I believe that is the essence of it!
When I first took up golf in my late 20’s, I attended a clinic by PATTY BERG (legendary founding member of the LPGA, 60 wins & 16 majors), and if she said it once she said it 100 times ...
“Ball first, ground second!” 👍🏻
Must be something to it. 🤔
Love it :)
Ok so i watched this video about "The Wall" last night. This afternoon I played golf. The first thing I did was hit the range and was hitting the ball real solid. I played about 10 strokes better today than my normal game. My buddies started saying that I normally sway but not today. I was hitting the ball much better. I give credit to "The Wall". I want to buy the shirt! Build the wall!
Lol love it, Richard!
Tom has been a great teacher. You Tube videos and spending time on his website has helped me greatly. All his teaching makes so much sense. His new sideburns, makes little sense. Cut them off Tom. Makes you look older.
Love to hear that--Tom is great!
My two favourite online golf instructors mashing it together! Love it! Both these guys have helped my game out significantly over the past 2-3 years. Great to see the collaboration of ideas because I've always felt Tom's teaching methods go against the mainstream instruction but they work. Great stuff. 👍
Appreciate it!
Great video. I am a fan or both Eric and Tom. I know there was not time to address this, but what Tom is saying -- keep the weight forward -- fits in with some of what Eric teaches. For example, keeping the weight forward allows the hips to turn more, which in turn allows the shoulders to turn more and the arms/hands to travel further and, as Eric has talked about in the past, this allows your chest to open up, to extend, as you approach the top of the back-swing. This creates a wider arc and more club-head speed without the need to lunge or throw yourself into the ball. Thus, the weight forward can be the foundation of a rhythmic, smooth swing with tempo that looks beautiful and hits the ball a long way without looking like you are putting too much effort into it. Watch any decent pro and you will be amazed at how easy they generally swing and how far the ball goes. I think it is because of the weight shift Tom and others advocate as well as the other great things the weight forward promotes. Again, you guys are two of my favorite.
Appreciate the kind words and feedback, John!
Crazy...it looks like a reverse pivot.....will try it though...
A lot of people can benefit from the Stack and Tilt. It could simplify the golf swing for many, especially with their irons.
No doubt....video on that coming tomorrow!
Awesome! ...what about driver though? What would the feel be for driver? Thank you! Awesome video!!
Thanks man! Check out Tom's channel for this thoughts on driver!
In my experience, the fear of 'weight forward' is in those of us who try it, and experience a few very scary dead-right shanks...so what peice is missing for us guys?
Hey Stephen! Im not sure---I do not see that as a common issue so I would need to see your swing on video to say
I love Tom and I did try his "stack and tilt" method.....couldn't do it consistently. Eric's "traditional" method is working for me. Again, love Tom and his humor and his teachings. I even did Mike Austin technique for a while....I was inconsistent at best. I too like how you share other pros and their perspectives! Nothing wrong with that!
Yessir! Lots of ways to get it done!!
Eric did this principle come from your head on the wall, or correlate to it (meaning you still came up with it, but it relates and can work in conjunction) ? Both your stuff is helping my golf game. Keep up the excellent work !
Hey Tom!
None of these things did I nor Tom come up with....we are just passing along what we have learned from others along the way and our observations of those things.
Certainly all the moves tie together!
So keep weight on left side. I.e. Do different to what every pro golfer does? Shifting weight from left to right helps us create power in the swing no?
Haha hey Charles! There are several ways to do it....obviously do whatever works best for you
Started to Watch Tom Saguto last year due to back problem, love the Metrodome, almost never take a excersice swing before i hit the ball on course. Used to take 4-5 to find the feeling, now just hit the small thing.
Love it! Tom is great!
What about for a driver?
Hey JD! Check out Tom's channel at Saguto golf and search "driver" to see more of his thoughts there.
If you do the same here on our channel you will see a bunch!
Great video lesson
Thank you!
Love the Sag-Gorno 'Head on the Wall" and "Don't Leave the Wall" mash up. This might be 99% of my contact problems.
:)
Tom’s a great guy but I’m not a fan of stack and tilt it may work for lots of people that’s great but not my thing
Thanks, Paul! All good!
The key is maintaining weight on front leg AND keeping the head and sternum in the MIDDLE.
Yep! Head should stay in the circle!
Great video, 2 quick questions, does this go against your teaching point (which has helped me a lot in the past) of equal and opposites? Or no Because your weight/hips stay forward throughout the swing? Also, as someone that tends to move off the ball too much, could this also work with driver/3w? Thanks as always
Hey Brian!
1. So long as you keep going forward on way down you are ok (opposite would be away from target)
2. Yep....of course you can over do anything
I love this guys attitude and communication.....makes sense.....just never heard it said ...great job....will advise on my outcomes...
hope it helps!
@@CogornoGolf It did.........thank you for bringing this to us.....you both make a great combo.....I was very doubtful, and more than skeptical.....first practice session was great.....
You give so many different options for golf...stack and tilt here, square to square. Conventional...its great
Lots of ways to get it done!
Often times if you look into the details of the options they are 90%+ the same
Too much talk, 3/4 thru the video and never took one swing.
Eric, although I see the value of this move I can guarantee that most amateurs that attempt this will reverse pivot and end up with more weight on their right side resulting in a strike even further behind the ball. It is not that easy to start with a left loading and maintain/increase that load left through the downswing whilst maintaining balance. I feel this video needs more context to help ensure the downswing is executed correctly from that position.
Thanks for the feedback! More coming!
Great vid guys
Thanks, Michael!
I am liking this Wall idea
Keeping that left leg there is something I think is going to help me
I am trying hard to get the shoulder tilt happening (lack of coordination aside)
But this drill is actually forcing body into areas I am wanting it to go but it wasn't
Hope it serves you well!
Hey Tom I tried this today and while I did some crispy shots any advice on how to keep the ball from going left.
Hey! Head over to Tom's channel Saguto Golf and Im sure he would be happy to answer and help
Best sideburns on YT, hands down.
Lol no doubt love it
Always entertaining Tom, making me want some mashed potatoes to go with your pork chops! 👍
