    Just put this cam in my 2012 Sierra. It cost around 2k in parts. It is scheduled to get dyno tuned the beginning of next month, cost is roughly 650 dollars. My friend helped me with this job, we worked half a day at the shop, started on my truck at 11am, and got it running at ~2am. I had an engine miss on cylinder #4, failed a leak down test on that hole through the intake valve. I figured if I am pulling the heads to put valves in why not finally delete the VVT and the AFM completely. Found that the cam was on it's way out the door anyways. Glad I did it. This truck is my daily driver, it has to be reliable. The shitty thing is that the fuel pump failed a week before the engine started misfiring. So 3k in repairs in just two weeks. I am fortunate in that I am a diesel technician by trade, my shop has a bridge crane, and no one cares if you work on your personal vehicles. Even not having it tuned I noticed that the truck did not downshift on the hills that it normally does on the drive home, can't wait to see how it runs once it is dialed in.

      That will be a beast! Thank you! I need to get a cross over pipe in there the true duals aren’t the best but I’m still so happy with it. 12k miles and still a happy motor

    I think an x pipe would make it sound pretty good plus you might gain a little bit more power.

    I have an 08 and the worst part for me is the afm/dod delete. I plan on doing everything you did and I'm just below 2k on price for parts I any to do it myself do your videos are really helping me.

      I’ve done one of those as well on my nephews truck just didn’t record it. I highly recommend you do a 3 bolt cam in place of your single bolt cam. It’s 10x easier to re install!

      Isn't the chopacabra a 3 bolt?

    • @harleystillwell7519
      @harleystillwell7519  6 месяцев назад

      So up to 06 had a 3 bolt cam and just a sprocket for the timing chain. Not 100% sure but I think in 08 they had the cam phaser and a big single bolt cam. They make it in either. So you’d want to buy a 3 bolt conversion and a 3 bolt cam instead. Check forsure maybe 08 was a 3 bolt but my nephews 2010 was single bolt.

    Pretty glad to see your skills and interest at such a young age. That was quite an undertaking and you did a great job. At 68 I'm going to do my 5.3 in the '04, Z71, Burb cause the lifters are rattling like crazy even though my mechanic put in that pick up seal. It's new to me and he said the oil pan was pretty dirty. 185,K. It came from S. Kansas so it's really clean. If needed would those headers fit and bolt up to the exhaust? They looked nice and can't believe only $200. I can only run a single exhause so I'll stick with a stock cam. Very nice truck and you should be very proud of it. Congrats from the farm near Battle Creek, Mich.

      I really appreciate that sir thank you, it was a fun process. And yep the reason I got those headers is because I didn’t want to have to fight to get long tubes in but my factory manifolds were extremely rusty. They bolted right into place and to my factory exhaust and they’re holding up excellent with 8,000 miles on them they look new

      @@harleystillwell7519 Thanks for the info and response. My mechanic's customer ( a veterinary ) had to get rid of his Burb because body mounts rusted out. Exactly the same as mine except for ext. color and runs like new. Very clean interior with same color, same heads and mechnically fine. Motor started leaking oil which is normal at 225K. I'll rebuild the rattling one if possible or the other one. Pretty tickled to have 2 exact same to make a good driver and lots of spare parts. $1,200 for parts rig.

    This is sick man i did the same back in 2017 i love watching these builds. I just bought my choppacabara cam for my 5.3 can't wait to have it installed here next few weeks. I was wondering do you have to run 93 octane only after you install this cam?

    Hey bud love the channel keep it up. I got a question I watched your video when you pulled the engine. I have a 2006 and talked to my mechanic yesterday he told me he was going to charge me extra to pull the motor out because 4 wheel drive. He said he had to pull the front differential out. Is that true or is he trying to rip me off.

    • @harleystillwell7519
      @harleystillwell7519  9 месяцев назад +3

      You have to do one or the other. To take the oil pan off with the motor in the truck you have to pull the differential out. But no you don’t have to remove it to pull the motor out at all. That would be dumb and unnecessary. That being said removing the differential is easy and would probably only take the guy 5 minutes.

      The reason why is because the bolt that holds the pick up tube to the pump is in a spot that is nearly in-accessible with the oil pan on. It is possible to remove that bolt, and install that bolt with the oil pan on. It is just extremely difficult. I was able to do it last night. But to be honest the front differential is very easy to remove. On my truck I also had to unbolt the power steering rack from the front cross member and drop it down. I think I had the oil pan off my truck in an hour.
