Hey mate, nice upgrade to the shed. Engineer here, used to live in a welding bay, a long time ago. Just some gentle, constructive advice here: Welding produces full-spectrum ultraviolet radiation, including the most carcinogenic frequencies (called UVC). The sun produces UVC also, but it's mostly blocked by the upper atmosphere. There's no safe level of exposure to UV-C. It's very dangerous to expose any skin to the arc flash. Hands and arms are especially vulnerable, as is the vee of your neck. It's no fun talking about melanoma or SCC with a dermatologist.
You don't need specific gloves to start with, but at least wear full leather gloves and a heavy cotton work shirt. Leave a window or door open as well, because the fumes are also bad.
Great that you're having a crack at welding. Good skill to develop. I'd just hate to see you fry your DNA in the process. I'd also hate the audience watching to think that's a good idea.
Seems like a nice home shed fixture table - should be good for making brackets, etc, square and true. Well done showcasing it as an obvious upgrade from the 'council cleanup' welding table.

I have done the same thing with the shelves on tool trolleys and benches I’ve put together - it’s so much better than having crap fall off the back of the shelf. I like the zip tie trick - I’ll have to remember that one.

For TIG welding a rule of thumb is what number cup it is is how many Liter/Hour of argon flow is required. With bigger cups and more tungsten stick out, bump it up a couple L/H. And set the post flow up so it keeps the tungsten cool, and hold the gas flow over the weld until it stops

Morning Scotty, I know it's early days for the restart of you channel...have you reached out to any sponsors for tools yet...I do like that your showing content that the average Joe can relate too and hopefully get more people in there sheds to have a crack themselves...but as the old saying goes a tradesman is only as good as the tools that they use....I'm definitely not a tradie but have felt the pain using crappy tools working around the house or on cars, just bumping my collection to mid spec made it so much easier and actually enjoyable...at least I don't get the knock on the door from the neighbour any more, returning tools that I threw in a hissy fit 😂.

Scotty, almost universally when you grip a tool that requires dexterous action you should holdout it with you finger pointing down the tool. So, index finger on top of the carving knife, index finger points down the panel saw, index finger points down the screwdriver.... try that with your welding grip. You might find you have finer control.

I'm no welder but I learnt to TIG on my tinny, my opinions means nothing but I feel like you really need to weld up a stool so you're comfy, its so much easier to learn when you're sitting up above the job imo also feel you just need to dial the settings in on your machine and you'll be fine mate. @@blownhemi the quick puddle is a double edge sword. You need to keep your gaps closer, because it is easier to burn edges.
