A good trick to hold the bonnet up when the struts are stuffed is to use a pair of vice grips where the ram goes into the tube. Clamp it on the ram, and the bonnet won't fall on your head, and you can lose the bonnet prop.
Great video as usual Scotty. At my place I have Package Wednesdays where all my car part packages turn up. My mates also send what they bought online to my place so their girlfriend/missus/partner don't find out how much the parts bought costs. When you finish with the intercooler & piping, if the front bar sags when you put it back together, use pool noodles & cut to size.
With that front crashbar I was wondering when you'd drill the speed holes for a bit more air on the intercooler :-) I know its a pain in the bum with a hole saw buuuuuuut lighter AND cooler?
Wu-Tang war whistles are gods gift, I've had an eBay 3582 spec turbo on my V6 skidder for 7 years now, not a single drop of water has ever been through it 😅 oh and it makes 450whp so it's not like it cops an easy life 🤣
Intercooler pipping from a b series fits in an au. Only the hot side changes depending on how you mount the turbo. I just bent the power steering line out of the way. 😂
I run one of the smaller ebay $80 waste gates on my dodgy barra turbo set up in my Bedford truck race car. Mounted directly onto the exhaust housing of the turbo without any issues at all for 3 seasons of drags and a few burnouts on the pad. No water in ethier wastegate or turbo. Chinese unit. Love seeing budget fun.
I bought a 1981 Suzuki hatch as a project car for my than 7yo daughter who is now 10 as a first car, it would be a great car to do this challenge with and i would absolutely love to however im in no position with funds to be able this year, however if you can do another 12s to 2k next year i can hopefully get in on it as i love the concept.
I had an AU Taxi back in the day. $750 Thomas town special pre covid. The thing was great to be honest. Only issue with the standard INTECH engine is that they couldn't do a good burnout to save themselves. I like what you plan is Scotty. Keen to see how you get on.
A couple of big hole saw holes and some dimple die to add strength back to the bar to get that little bit of extra flow Will you go crazy cutting all the bonnet and boot structure out Headlight duct delete?? All the fun of Scotty making 12s for 2
I wouldn't be scared of a .63 housing, in fact that is what I prefer. I had a .63 housing / 3076 on my SR20DET and it worked real well. I find the smaller housing tends to be a lot more linear in power delivery than the big 1.0x housings. Yes they might make more top end horsepower for people looking for dyno queens, but for conservative strip work I think the smaller housing is a lot smarter choice. You control the boost, so it only becomes an issue if you let it.
As for the intercooler piping, I don't know what your'e like at aluminium welding or if you have an AC Tig, but you could have a crack with stainless 3" exhaust tubing, maybe some off cuts from your local exhaust guy if you buy him a few beers, just a thought if your'e tight for cash.
lol yes let's not snap off the power steering lines. Thought it was weird that the lines looped back without any visible fittings. Was wondering how it connected to the condenser. That front bar looks like it might use a bit of a diet and improve airflow through the intercooler.
You're taking one for the team, Scotty 😅 If you end up with decent results, then my DA ltd will be getting this turbo ... If it blows, then I'll reconsider
@JamesOnscotch i know what you're looking at. Turbo shafts run in an oil bath at high speed, this has no oil in it, so there will be movement. There's always a bit of play in a turbo shaft, even new ones. But if it destroys itself on start up, then we'll know for sure.
you are going to need a big wastegate/very good wastegate priority to try and keep a 0.63 housing from falling on its face at high RPM, the ba turbos came on boost at ~2k rpm with the 1.06 housing from factory so that tiny housing is going to hit hard.
Hey scotty loved the original 13s for 1300 cant wait to see how this pans out lol iv heard that its a possibility the bf dedicated gas rods are similar in strength to turbo rods and can possibly be a straight fit into au intech.
@elforteburnoutcar160 yep, the only problem is that the rod bolts are Torque To Yield and need to be replaced, and then you need to resize the rods. So it's cheaper to buy aftermarket rods
I commented on the last video but i dont want you to miss it scotty!! If you want to get rid of the sound deadening material for free, just use a heatgun and it'll lift right out all as one piece. At least thats what I've seen on RUclips

I am constantly saying to a mate of mine what something costs, and what something is worth, are two completely different things. Things made in China are often cheap because they don't have the wank factor added to it. Anyone that has ever worked in retail knows there can be hundreds of percent (I have seen items that had 1000%) added to a product. Which means the real cost of manufacture is nothing like what is charged at the cash register. If people buy into the BS that gets peddled then they will pay through the nose for something that doesn't really cost that much to make. Often the difference is the purely mark up.
Challenged myself a few years ago to see how fast I could go for cheap. Built a 1977 reliant kitten with a rear mounted 2.0 zetec with a turbo blowing through an su carb for £1500 got it to run 12.45 eventually 😂

Scotty, power steering pump etc, and the a/c compressor etc, if not already removed, is extra weight, and HP
