Can a 2WD TACOMA Take on a 4WD TRAIL?!

  • I wondered if a 2wd Toyota Tacoma could take on a trail that strongly suggests a 4wd vehicle. So naturally, my buddy and I decided to test our truck's limits on the Lytle Creek trail! I do not have 4wd, I do not have lockers, my tires are pretty old, suspension needs to be rebuilt, etc. Is a two-wheel-drive vehicle capable enough to handle this challenge?

    Hi and thank you so much for your video. I live in D.R.Congo. I have a 2008 double cab Tacoma RWD. What I do for more traction on my rear wheels is I make sure I have at least 150kg of anything in my bed. Usually I have a big bag of sand or 3 or more 50kg cement bags. I also added a modified truck hanger blade that allows me to carry over a tone on my rear axle, and I also had to add stronger shocks to handle the bouncing better. With this trick, I never had any traction problems or rear wheels digging in deep sand, always came through with no problems. Hope this helps those who like me only have RWD. Have fun. Merci!

    I've been looking for something like this, I got a 2wd tacoma that I want to do light trails with and everyone keeps saying to just get a 4wd, this video actually pumped me to just go for it.
    The reason I prefer light trails is because I like the scenery not the big climbing challenge, although would be cool to go for it.

    • @desertdime
      @desertdime  2 года назад +9

      There’s definitely trails out there that I would consider much lighter than this one with views/scenery just as good if not better. It’s totally doable with 2wd, it’s just easier with 4wd

    Please keep doing videos of your 2wd. It’s rare for me to come across 2wd builds. And it’s so much more awesome to see them in my opinion. It’s great to see and satisfying 😎 ain’t nothing wrong with 2wd! It’s the people who make it a problem or so you’re not “cool” if you don’t have 4wd haha. I love this video because not enough people hammer 2wd trucks anymore . There is so much you can handle in 2wd with a little more momentum in the prerunner world 2wd works great but you can still do so much with a little air out and the skinny pedal on the right . The shots in this video are awesome too imagine what you can do with a little more suspension in the rear and some type of rear locker . Great video i will be subscribing 👍🏼

      Exactly. Tires are the most important thing too. It's funny to me how many people have 4 wheel drive with street tires. It's fine if you just have 4 wheel drive for snow areas, but off road the driver and tires are more important than drive systems.

Only once with no experience did we get hung up in some loose deep gravel, but I WAS impressed with what she could do and made me want to do more. Do I now wish it were 4wd? A 2 wheel drive is doing it but you are really abusing the vehicle to do it . Dirt roads and mild overlanding is ok but where you are in mountainous terrain you need 4 wheel gearing and traction to safely climb those trails . With momentum comes the lack of ability to stop if you come to a situation that could take you off the road or damage the truck leaving you stranded in the middle of nowhere .

      offroading is always at your own risk. stop pretending that 4wd trucks are inherently stronger built than 2wd. my truck is super capable, very little momentum needed, and what do you know, the brake still works.

      @@garrettzkool63 perhaps not inherently stronger but definitely more capable. Not only do you have all four wheels pulling with a differential lock option on most vehicles but you have lower gear ratios through the transfer case increasing your torque to the four wheels. I do agree that there are situations that no matter what you have you should not attempt to traverse . Yes a two wheel vehicle can handle most mild trails and gravel roads but there will be situations where you get to the point where you are abusing the vehicle and that could potentially leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere.

    I have a 2wd and the answer is no it can’t do what a 4x4 can not even with a lift kit of bigger tires it can help in certain places but don’t go in deep soft sand with 2wd since u are in the dessert
