Most of those 2022 MG EVs have been sat on the grass round the perimeter of the Newark Showground. Back in November a lot of them were sat in water up to their hubs!
Just bought my Mitsi ASX with a fat 2l diesel and it rips, lovely car that does about 35mpg is 10 years old and cost me £3.5k. In 3-5 years when I sell it I may well get close to what I paid for it given the way 2nd hand ICE car prices are going and the way EV prices are going.
You won't lose much, because once a car reaches a certain age, the depreciation curve flatlines. The main criteria is condition: Is it a decent runner with only minor issues? If it is, it's worth money.
I didn’t realise that government’s are going to limit new ICE car sales with a cap on total numbers, and huge fines for manufacturers who exceed the limit. Used car prices will be going up then.
It’s been that way for a while, it’s only now this guy has switched his brain in and decided to do some research 😂…. Used prices will probably stay the same, fuel duty is going up more than likely so is “road tax” along with the expansion or changing the permissions of ulez / caz zones And there’s nothing stopping any changes to the MOT to test old cars off the road.. as we see with used range rovers and large luxury 4x4’s which are almost un sellable.
Great effort Geoff. All very enlightening. You are half my age and I am encouraged that such a young man can see through the BS. I am not alone............

All the best to you.
I recently considered buying a 2020 VW eUP for 10k which is half its new price, there was 4 years left of the 8 year battery guarantee. I contacted the main VW dealers and ask what’s the cost of a new replacement battery he said we’ve never been asked that question 😮 off he went and come back to me with a price of £19000 and said but we don’t fit them you would have to go to an independent battery specialist to have it fitted 😅 that’s a big main VW dealership response.
The European adventure is interesting to watch. In the U.S., the distances involved mean that there needs to be a whole new technology to increase range, decrease recharge times etc. It should be easier in Europe. But government/politicians and technology are always going to be an oil-and-water non-mixture. (Or emulsified mess.)
Loved the vlogs Geoff. Do this sort of thing again. I don’t always agree with your thoughts but you always put them forward having logic to what you say. I think we could have a great conversation after a few wets down the local but as I say keep the content coming.

We've got width restriction bollards at the end of the road. An electric delivery van, just as the front wheels were parallel to the bollards, conked out! 😁 It couldn't be pushed to a less obstructive position either. The driver and his colleague sat on a nearby wall, having a smoke. Horrendous traffic jams within 15 mins and, this is the major through road from the local fire station! Amusing scenario... Unless of course your house was on fire anywhere north of it 🤔🤔 10/10 for your 10 of 10 Geoff! Good job! As I used to be a mobile phone technician, if you don't keep charging your lithium battery every 3 months it will degrade. Juat like leaving your mobile in a draw for 2 years you normally need to change the battery
Noooo.. No Ev's even with plummeting prices, we need to push the need for ICE car demand let the market decide to scrap the mandate. I too care about the environment but that's completely separate from this co2 scam, basically a tax on air it's insane. Good pod cast on doc malik!
Would be I testing to hear the analysis and effect on the channel. Think it's a great way to deal with stuff you've saved, quick fire, they each just got to make money.
Geoff, there are a lot of evangelists watching your channel, we enjoy the contrarian view. I too bought an EV mainly to save money by doing the same 500km roundtrip 30-40 times a year for about 10 pounds of electricity. It's a 2017 Ioniq, battery health showing 100% at 99k km's. I love a station wagon the most, but this liftback is very close. Even the 29" mountain bike fits. Over here in NZ we're starting to see 2022 M3's selling for 15k which would be the best deal if you can live with the lack of space in the back
They look tempting, compared with new. But... in two more years the price is again half price of the current value and you lose that amount. And the Battery would cost more that what you paid for the car. On top of all the other issues, privacy, technology that gets obsolete.
Good to end with EV depeciation because there's nothing new there, so I can comment on this video format concept, instead of on this subject. I like this concept. One subject, one video. It is much easier to comment on the subjects if each has its own video. Please evaluate. I hope it 'll do your channel good and that there 'll be more of it. Not necessarily more per day, just more use of this concept. It is definitely better than one 40 minute video about 10 different subjects.
Thanks for this comment, because that was the other way I was going to do it... One long stream, so I'm glad I did it this way. It's fun to mess about with format / thumbnails / titles / editing and see what works and what doesn't. It's been a while since I've done a really heavily edited video since RUclips dropped their pay rates by two thirds, it's gotten to the stage now that if I'm spending hours editing a video and it doesn't do 60,000 views it's not worth the time, which I think is a really tragedy for creators. Thankfully people do enjoy my unedited / one take videos, but I really enjoy it when I get my teeth into a meaty one with lots of editing, so some of those are coming up soon. :-)
I reckon all small petrol hatchbacks, Fiesta and Focus sized cars, are going to hold values incredibly well now. They're cheap to run, cheap to insure, and supply of new vehicles is drying up witj many like the Fiesta out of production and many more going out of production. Lots of people, like me, want simple, inexpensive transport.
I bought my retirment car while I was still working. A 07 plate Toyota Rav4, then carrying 67,000 miles & all dealer serviced. Seven years later I have just crept passed 102,000. Cars like mine are bomb proof. Why would I ever buy a "Tric" car. No way.
We have just been through this as needed new car (ended up leasing a petrol Nissan) but it appears there are some bargains out there was tempted! Was looking at the Audi E-Tron £20k/£25k can pick one up with 25/30k in mile on the clock, looks a great car. Went against it due to usual stuff concerns around battery and a used EV, would need home charger fitted (i dont want new flooring up to fit it), just the hassle of having to charge it, the public chargers are a 15min drive away and dont want be sat there for 30/60min charging my dam car! Maybe would consider an EV for a second car if we got home charger.
I didn't see the previous videos. But locally (Rochester, Kent) dealers are using the multistory car parks to park hundreds of cars. You can tell they are dealership cars as all of them are immaculate to look at and most are under three years old. These are mainly petrol and hybrid vehicles and behind Rochester railway station the multistory car park has all five stories full of them. I think a deal must have been done with the car park's owners. There are other such places dotted all around the local area. The amount of cars apparently not up for sale and stored out of sight (unless they are being advertised on line) is just unbelievable. I don't even know if any of the cars I see have any actual mileage on them. They all look in excellent condition.
