- BANDIT SG-40 STUMP GRINDER REVIEW
A first impressions/review of my new bandit SG-40 Stump Grinder. With the little use I have with the grinder I can say its quite an impressive machine.
Big thanks to Rob at Arborist Supply for setting me up! If you are interested in any arborist equipment Check out this link.

Great review .. those are green teeth and the red bar is safety so you dont get close to the wheel , the zt1844 was the original design and then they updated all the problems and called it the SG40
Hey man, thanks for watching, I believe I came across a couple of your videos when I was deciding to purchase, I realized after I did some cutting that they were the green teeth, I misunderstood what the guy was saying when he gave me the spare set I guess 😆
They're a pretty handy lil machine. i have the model previous to the SG40 and it's decent but has some flaws and i believe they made some upgrades to the SG. Good luck with the new grinder and stay safe.
Ya, they seem pretty cool so far, I believe they updated the belt system, and it has a larger swing than the previous model. Thanks for watching 🤙
Nice! Congratulations on the new machine. It looks cold up there. It's been a little cold down here in So Ca at night lol It's probably shorts weather to you. Thanks for the video...
Ya, it's not too bad here. I actually had a plus 6 yesterday and finished climbing some skinny ash trees. This weekend, it's gonna drop again and some potential snow, but that's winter 😆, Thanks for watching and be safe! 🤙
Very helpful review and instructions on how to operate.
Great review bro! Really sweet machine!
Thanks man 🤙
Another great video Dustin 😊
Thanks Holly!
Thanks for the review. Looks like a very nice machine and seems to be very well thought out, however I have heard they are gas guzzlers. What has your experience been so far on fuel consumption? I am hoping a good used one might pop up in my area.
Well, it does go through gas, but it's hard to tell because the tank is really small.
The hydraulic fluid tank is 7/8 full when the fluid is in the center of the window. Not 7/8 up the window.
Great review!!!
Thanks! Thanks for watching
whats up mang, I just bought mine from Rob, Pick up on Thursday
Haha, nice man, I hope you're happy with it ! 🤙
@@PoplarMechanic yeah man, I own Robinson Tree Services In Edmonton, actually watching some of your videos as we speak haha
@Jeff Skerratt that's really cool. If I'm ever up that way, I'll give you a shout!
@@PoplarMechanic thanks mang
@@yabuddy90210 How do you like the grinder so far?
Very nice bro..👍👍 I'm super jealous!..I soooooooo want one of those toys..if you don't mind me asking was it crazy expensive..I'm just a small tree company.... I don't want to spend a million bucks on one..can't wait to see the 100 hour review...
Hey Carlo, Thanks for watching!, so I paid 31500 with gst for it, I was looking at higher hp units, but the cost is way higher. I haven't had extensive use with the machine, but so far, it's leaving a great impression. Probably perfect for a small company, we are basically a small company as well, be safe brotha 🤙
Nice machine I'm going to have to get one of those👍🏽👊🏽
Yeah, it seems pretty handy so far! Be safe brotha 🤙
Hey man what's your updated thoughts on the machine I'm thinking on one getting ready to buy one next week
It's a good stump grinder, especially for tight access yards. It doesn't have the power of a diesel and takes more finesse to run, in my opinion. It still kills stumps fast with good technique. I also recommend the regular wheel. The revolution wheel is too heavy and not as fast in the cut. The main reason for buying this machine would be difficult access stumps. Or if you have a lot of stumps and need an affordable extra grinder. Overall, I'm super happy with it. Hope that helps! Be safe, brotha 🤙

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
How’s it going with the machine so far? I’m trying to decide on this model vs the smaller Vermeer SC30XT.
It's a good unit, but it is gas. Not as fast as my vermeer sc372. I would go for the sg 40. It's a money maker for hard to access areas.
Just read your message and if you want my advice, get the sc30 vermeer. Far less maintenance. The smaller bandits are a bit of a bone shaker . Ive heard of exhausts falling off, nuts becoming lose and changing belts becomes time consuming. Vermeer is solid machine and no belts to change.
Looks like a great machine, I’d prefer a Kawasaki engine though, I had a Kolher 29 HP EFI on my zero turn and once it was out of warranty started giving me trouble and could not repair myself, computer related stuff.
Nice looking machine
Thanks Greg
Thats an awesome machine. How do you like it compared to the vermeer
Well, it's hard to say right now, I've only done 1 actual stump with the bandit. The bandit is comparable in hp, but the vermeer seems to have more torque and bandit more rpm, so there are pros and cons to both. Bandit design is better for sure, and it goes more places. Thanks for watching Jay 🤙
Nice unit right there
Ya, I really like it! Thanks for watching brotha 🤙
need a 100/ 200 hour review
It's coming. Ground is super wet for stumps right now
How much does one of these run new?
30k cad I paid
1yr reveiw?
I have a 60-hour review out. I don't have the link on hand but just search bandit sg 40 60 hour review
I was gonna say with the shitty placement of the cotter pin, I replaced mine with a ballbearing pin, way easier and no more fuss
Ya, it's not a great location. Thanks for the info. That's a smart idea, actually, thanks!
If I had to comment on mine I’d compare it to a car with the wrong gearing. Way too much ground speed especially considering how inherently unstable it is and not enough low end grunt to get over a spoil pile. Losing a tooth on the drive sprocket while not impossible would be a difficult mod
Not happy with yours? It's definitely not as good as my sc372 but I do think it's a good machine for low access areas
@@PoplarMechanic no I’m definitely happy with it don’t get me wrong. As in almost everything in life there’s room for improvement.
@BoxofRain-ff4td yes! I totally agree. I see your points. I got the revolution wheel for mine, and I'm not too happy with it. Takes more hp to run it, which this thing doesn't seem to have.
Only $24,000. I don't know what it is about tree equipment and all these companies that think 25 to 30K for each piece of equipment is just fine. It's a spinning wheel with some hydraulics. I don't know I just don't get it.
Ya. Unfortunately it all costs money. It's cheap compared to others.
@@PoplarMechanic yeah I've been looking around but the prices go from 2K to 20K there's like nothing in between pro homeowner and entry level commercial. Oh well whatever I'm just bitching lol
@@JoshuaCollins no its fine. I totally understand. I'm probably getting a spider lift this year. You don't even want to know the price tag on those fuckers lol
@@PoplarMechanic I really want a boom truck with a grapple saw. Don't really feel comfortable leveraging my house to do so though lol. 150k on the low end but damn is at a nice machine. Those spiders are pretty cool too very low impact
@JoshuaCollins you the grapple saw trucks are nice.
Sell me that vermeer with the diesel lol
Lol no, I need 2
If you like the sg-40 ill swap you for my zt1844 lol
@The Mak haha, so far, the vermeer is quite a bit better, I'm gonna get the revolution wheel for the bandit, though
@@PoplarMechanic yeah I wish i would have went Vermeer to start with. You should do a review on the revolution wheel when ya get it, ive heard some good things about that wheel and congratulations, new toys are always fun
@The Mak I definitely will do that. Thanks for watching 🤙
