It’s crazy how in a matter of just a couple years the tech industry went from inviting zero RUclipsrs to these events, to Apple quoting Marques in the opening presentation about the MacBooks. That was really exciting to see!
For those who weren't there: During the event every youtuber/influencer was taking pictures and videos with Marques (including myself). Even when he was shooting his hands on video. He took his time for every single person who came up to him. Respect. As I said to him "thank you for your videos"
Looking forward to Apple quoting MKBHD during next product launch with: "This probably won't make a real difference to most people... it's kind of a bummer."
There hasn't been any innovation by Apple in iPhones for almost 10 years now....they bring some minor improvements year after year (most of which do not even offer any perceivable benefit anymore)..... and they keep charging a bomb for these ......time to move on folks...
While Samsung will be 3 steps ahead with another innovation technology that will take Apple another 3-5 years to call it something else to manipulate Apple users thinking this is all new Apple technology.
They the best technology ON THE IPHONE, not in any other smartphone. It’s Apple users that probably think that is something new cuz they never heard of it and are highly disinformed about this stuff
I just hate how they headline the USB C to be their main change but they leave out on so many features they could put in the phone just so they have areas of improvement for future phones.. its the same thing that NVIDIA did when Etherium was cut off. The 40 series cards magically became 60% better than previous. there had to be a reason to buy.. so dumb how we are in a choke hold
its not bad idea leaving out for future phones….in my opinion technology is getting way too fast. How can you improve a phone that has everything? That’s what people want from apple but in the end how can they improve….Apple can be a pain sometimes but i understand their view about innovations
@@RavnHoodit depends on the card. 4070ti is almost as fast as a 3090 or in some use cases outperforms a 3090, but the 4060 is worse than it's predecessor except for energy usage, it would be better suited as a 4050 but Nvidia set the 40 series names kinda weird.
The 1x, 1.2x, and 1.5x options are not meant to be for shooting in those “multiples” of 1x, if you notice in the settings they have their lens mm equivalent next to them. It’s for photographers who want to shoot at a specific lens size.
To say the upgrades are incremental is an understatement at this stage. I honestly think we should collectively move to a 2 year upgrade cycle with new model releases.
Yes but don't you think apple is the kind of brand that actually promotes people getting new iPhones each year? Low repairability just proves that point. If iPhones were repairable and cheaply repairable I doubt that any iPhone can last less than 3 years.
Guys, remember that feeling when you have an slightly older iPhone and when the new one comes out you just feel the urge to have it, cause it has all new cool features and design? Yep. That feeling is gone.
Which is a good thing. People upgrading their phones every year is not good for the environment. Also this means that iPhones have insane resell value even after 2-3 years.
As an android user I can stop laughing when I see "an now with usbC" when I have such since 5year already! But from a price tag apple start to become a premium affordable compare to Samsung
@@AlexRodriguez-px2hz I guess it’s a win for everyone now that Apple was forced to retire the lightning port. Considering the sheer number of iPhones Apple sells every year, it’s good for the environment now that people will in general have to buy and carry less cables. But yea claiming USB C as a selling point is so ridiculous lol…what is this 2013?
I like the assurance that the phone is on silent mode the old mute switch gives. I would have preferred Apple retaining the visible indication that the switch was on while implementing programmable functions
For me, the highlight of the event was when Tim mentioned MKBHD on stage. It shows how good and legit your work is. What’s more impressive is that you didn’t mention that in this video and it didn’t really change you style about reviewing Apple. Keep up the good work. Waiting for the full reviews. Honestly only the Pro Max makes enough sense to buy this year.
This review wasn't shot just after the apple event. It might have been shot weeks before and released today, since there are embargos on releasing videos before actual product launch.
By the looks of it, the only difference for me (as a 14 pro max owner) is: - the 5x telephoto (3x seems to work fine for me as I never really needed to zoom any further than that) - usb C port - screen brightness - chip which probably isn’t even noticeably faster - Titanium build Probably more of a difference than the 13 pro to 14 pro had (from what a lot of people said wasn’t much at all), but still not justified imo. Great video btw.
The chip is always gonna become better, these upgrades are literally designed for people 4 generation behind to upgrade , the people who upgrade are bunch of bozos, I know some broke people who did
with a "more powerful cpu and gpu that might take up more power", and a battery size that didn't change, why talk about it if it demotivate people to buy the phone?
Agreed. And hardly any info released regarding charging speeds for any of the phones. Surely they should have taken advantage of the USB C port and upgraded the charging speed!
3mm chip should take less battery than 5mm chip, so better battery has to be expected. However I believe they even shrinked battery because of smaller size of chassis@@HolyEMP
I think the reason for the 1.2x camera setting is that they made the lens wider to 24mm equiv, and the 1.2x gets you back to 28mm how it always was, and then they also added 1.5x to get to 35mm, ”a very popular focal length in photography”, introducing more and more photography lingo into the phone.
I'm glad the 15 is cool piece of kit, but here in Japan the Pro is 250,000 yen, which is over $2,500. A grand more than the 14 Pro Max. Insane... I think the US prices are little more digestible, but we're talking high-end laptop prices over here. It's crazy... Either way, Marques again coming through with the quality content!
I’m still using an iPhone 10. I had been planning to get a 14 last year but, after they were announced, the upgrade just didn’t seem worth it then. But after five years the 10 is starting to show its age-short battery life, sluggish face recognition-so I went ahead today and preordered a 15 with 256 gigs. It felt very costly. I live in Japan, and the weak yen has made all imports more expensive. I hope the 15 lasts five years, too.
MKBHD is HIM! Always stayed authentic and gave his honest opinions on devices, I remember when it was majority android at first then started to dig into apple and he wasn't afraid to poke fun at them for certain features, so glad this continues today as I believe it holds apple accountable and actually pushes innovation for all of us consumers!
Usb c is a huge victory from the EU. I'm honestly surprised Apple didn't just make usb c a thing in the EU, but I'm not surprised 2.0 is in the base ones.
Yeah, as if they would give all the features in one go. Need to save something for next year. Pretty sure they will make a big deal of faster transfer speeds and fast charging next year.
I think it would've been a bad decision both financially for Apple themselves, and also for the consumers. Therefore, I think they preferred just going all out and incorporating USB-C into the iPhone.
USB-C is also vastly superior to lightning, which I don't think they've really updated since its inception. So. Win-win for everyone except Apple who made bank selling licenses to 3rd party charger resellers.
So far, you’re the only RUclipsr in my subscriptions that’s being realistic about this. The others feel like they’re still in the hype of getting invited to the event and blowing things out of proportion without even realising it.
Because he's literally the biggest tech RUclipsr here. He has a lot of followers and has a reputation of being transparent, no matter which company it is, and he doesn't take bribes or sponsorships just to make him say nice things about a product. Even Apple knows how much influence marques has.
@@dice1331*LOTS of the chap’s comments are silly, though:* The Pro features are literally “never seen before”, and yet he says it is not that. Starting from a 3-nm SoC with 35 trillion operations per second machine learning engine to the brightest screen to the titanium alloy enclosure to 4K60FPS raw video to satellite services. Also, the point of USB speed the chap is making is silly, because most professionals will never use it anyway as Wi-Fi is already super fast for file transfer. It is also weird that he is suggesting that Apple should lie that fast-charging can be only possible with USB-C, while it was perfectly possible with Lightning, and the reason why Apple does not do it is to not kill the battery even faster than it is degrading. Also, the chap does not understand the fact that the strength of titanium is needed to make the case thinner and even lighter, it is not about the strength per se. Finally, the idea that USB is the main feature is the stupidest yet. The most strategic change is Apple’s entrance to the hardware ray tracing acceleration game. It is already made several AAA gaming coming to iOS, but this will surely shortly be followed by iPadOS, visionOS and MacOS as the technology will be a part of M3 chips.
My biggest annoyance with having an iPhone is always having a cable issue when with friends with android. Being able to share cables with everyone finally makes things so much better
Why is faster charging a problem? Ive had the IPhone 14 pro max since launch and I’ve only ever need to charge it once a day which is when Im asleep and it has smart technology to avoid draining and recharging the battery and it be at max charge when you need it. Besides you can go 2 days of using this phone a lot before it dies.
After rocking my 11 Pro Max for close to four years (with great battery life all up until now), I thought this was supposed to be the year that I upgrade. But after seeing the presentation yesterday, I think I might just wait another year.
I’m also an 11 Pro Max user and I’m in the same boat. I’m not a Luddite, I want to upgrade. And it’s not a money thing, I’ve had a new phone budget set aside for a couple years now. It just seems wrong to get a new phone when the one I have still works perfectly fine (even the battery) and it does everything I need it to.
While the addition of the action button is certainly welcome, it seems like a really obvious missed opportunity to not have multi-input customization support for it. Being able to customize it to do a thing with a single tap is cool, but they could have so easily allowed it to do something different with a long press and then another thing with a double click, or any number of other options. Just a thought.
My thoughts. Itll be s “feature” in the next iphone. I love Apple, but stopped “upgrading” because they create a problem or purposely miss a feature so they can fix it in the next iphone. Theyre so running out of ideas
These upgrades feel unexceptional to me. Nothing compelling. We'd all worked around the slow lighting cable issue with Airdrop for videos and pics, so that doesn't really matter. For all the fuss made out of the 3 nm architecture, I would've expected better performance. I am interested to see that new zoom in action though.
Type C will drastically reduce the e-waste and now manufactures of accessories can make accessories compatible with both android and ios (given apple allows it) And apple when this route only coz of eu regulations xd
Don’t forget that not all people only have apple devices… usb-c is a giant upgrade for consumers worldwide. One cable to rule them all or something like that ;)
USB C had to happen for apple to be able to sell their products here in the EU, which I honestly love EU for. I am an android user but one of the major reasons I never seriously considered going with an iPhone was the cable situation. I have an iPad and am able to share all my cables and chargers between my phone, my tablet and my laptop.
This definitely should’ve been a 14S instead of a 15. I was really hoping for faster charging at the very least. I do like taking RAW photos and shooting in ProRES, but at the end of the day, that’s more of an infrequent hobby. I charge my phone every day and it would e been nice to be able to get a full charge in under 30 minutes if you’re heading out somewhere. This is a disappointment. Also why did they get rid of midnight purple???? I love my purple 14 pro. I was hoping for another purple color.
As an android user, this is one of the best new feature's I've seen in iPhones for years. FINALLY When I ask people for a charger I won't have to be disappointed when they only have a lighting one!!
If apple get there way, ur friends still won't be able to help as apple are still making their usb c cables proprietary. They will only work with iphones. My sister bought an ipad mini a few months ago, and it has usb c, the usb c cable that came with it won't charge my samsung.
I think its purely because they introduced native AI upscaling into Metal. So the game will probs run on like 70% resolution, upscaled. Might be barely hitting 30 fps as well lol
I remember hearing about Apple buying some startup camera company over 10 years ago that had developed depth measurment techniques to dynamically adjust the focus after pictures were taken. They've finally implemented it.
Apple is REALLY good at alot of things (like refining features before launch) but also REALLY good at holding back basic things SO long that people are grateful just to get what everyone else had 5 years ago.
Apple could easily win over the customer base of competitors if they stopped. I'm really disliking Android more with every new version released (yes, I'm already on Android 14 beta). Apple should stop locking features such as loading apps from outside their app store, or actually using new tech right when it comes out (USB-C shouldn't have taken anywhere this long, it's actually absurd).
The launch was about what I expected. USB-C, improved cameras, faster processor. Mostly the same old song and dance, different year. It's getting harder for them to differentiate between "model years" any more. I was expecting the USB-C to actually be Thunderbolt to help move video and photos off of the phone quicker. Kind of did that, kind of didn't. I'll keep my 13 for now. It does what I need it to do, and I have plenty of lightning cables...
i still have my 12 pro watching these reviews makes more sense again not much change got a choice change the failing battery (79%) or upgrade to a new iphone or just wait again 🤔 not sure yet still not convinced
I agree with you guys. Can upgrade my 12 pro to non pro 15 for free as it’s a work phone. They won’t let us get the pro anymore for some reason. Was able to upgrade to the 14 last year too and didn’t. Idk if it’s worth it for adding usb3 and losing the 3rd camera. These new phones add very little reason to upgrade over the last few years imo
The only reason most people will upgrade to any other new phone is usually some issue like a end of cycle operating software update or the device is badly needing a replacement. I’m now four generations behind but the phone still works fine. Im actually amazed that the iPhone I have has made it through all the abuses I given it.
True, and it's insane how apple still gives out new updates to the older models, I believe they are going to give out the newest update coming up to the iphone 10 which was in like 2017
@@DragDealer That’s funny. Over a year ago when the iPhone 14 came out I was listening to one of the host on Bloomberg Surveillance say as a joking conspiracy theorist mention his current iPhone would suddenly need to be upgraded over a plan shutdown.
The default option of changing the camera from 24mm to 28mm or 35mm is aimed at photographers. 35mm and 28mm are way more common focal lengths in everyday shooting than 24mm is, and focal length ultimately plays the biggest role when it comes to framing.
I typically stay 2 generations behind when it comes to my iPhone, but I am seriously considering upgrading to the 15 just so that I can phase out my lightning cables
I decided to wait even longer than that, Still using my X and it still works as new. 1 of the main reasons I've wanted to upgrade was when it got that Night Mode feature, still wasn't overall enough to upgrade. Then I said, I'll just do it about every 5 generations starting from this X. This way, even if the updates aren't so big, they will always be a big update for me.
getting rid of the silent mode switch will be a pain for me. Having the switch means I can verify if my phone is on silent without even having to take it out of my pocket. I actually do this often, in meetings or rehearsals etc where it would be rude to pull it out. Looks like in future I'll need to pull it out, and boot up the screen to verify it's on silent.
I was excited about the new switch as it makes a lot of sense, but I can also say I do the same thing regarding checking while the phone is in my pocket.
@@tomcorwine3091 @jacejohnson7113 i suppose, the issue would be, you wouldnt know if it went from silent to loud or loud to silent. because either way youd get the same haptic
Watching on my iPhone 15. Works really well, the back is smooth to the touch. Speaker quality is really good! Color looks a little bleached though. It takes stunning photos as well. Apple announced their iPhone 16 series today, but it’s basically an iPhone 15 with new colors and a Siri upgrade with AI-built in. I’d stick with the 15 if you’re looking for a new phone, the 16 didn’t look like anything too special.
I really wish they would have allowed you to map multiple actions to the new button. For example, hold to mute, double-click to open the camera and triple click to turn on Focus. Maybe we'll see that in the future.
iPhone 16 pro the same phone at the 15 but now the action button supports multiple actions. 🤦♂️ they are getting ridiculous and lack innovation at apple these days.
Or just don't buy an iPhone and customize everything that can be customized with software. That's the beauty of Android. You can play it safe and keep it stock or modify the shit out of it.
@@DonTreply-dq5etwhat else is there to innovate? These devices can only do so much and they already do so much haha. And I wouldn’t be so pessimistic about the action button mapping, I have a feeling it will be a feature in an OS update.
There is an easy explanation for the focal length presets and it concerns photographers. So, the default focal length on the iphone is the 35m equivalent of 24mm, I believe. It's a rather WIDE focal length as your default and that sort of wide lens is not often used. A lot of photographers go to 1,2 and that translates to 28mm, a much more used focal length. 1,4 is about 35mm, which is really used much more. Right now, you have to fiddle with the slider manually every single time to get to those more common focal lengths. These presets are trying to solve that.
@@abdsalamelkhamlichi6677 Ah yes, taking 2 steps is better than 1. Especially when that second step involves eyeballing the correct crop and the first step involves eyeballing what will be in frame once you crop it.
@@abdsalamelkhamlichi6677 When taking group photos, there is a lot of distortion at the ends - the people at the outer edges of the group get really big arms and face so I too zoom in 1.2 or 1.5 and then shoot. Less distortion
I will be buying one (leaning towards the 15 pro), but only out of necessity. It’s time for me to upgrade from the iPhone 8. I’d much rather run my devices into the ground than do frequent upgrades, and the 8 is definitely feeling a little tired by now (not to mention no more iOS updates). Plus, waiting this long between upgrades makes each upgrade feel much more substantial
I was really hoping you'd say the action button can be programmed for single, double, and triple press so that the button can act as the silent switch and open whatever you choose with different presses. This is why I wish untethered jailbreaking were still common.
One thing that sounded interesting to me was the ability to capture video directly to an external drive. Never thought I would see a capability like that in an iPhone. I hope that works in all video modes, and not just Prores only. Knowing Apple they will limit it in some arbitrary way that makes it useless for most people who would use the feature.
I am upgrading my iPhone 13 to 15 Plus -- The reason being 15 Plus has a bigger battery and now going to use the Dynamic Island.. the camera has better quality than then iPhone 14 Promax so this is a really big upgrade for me.. Apart from this, pro models are specifically for those who are more into photography and vlogging..
Congratulations on being quoted at the Apple event! Amazing achievement imo. Goes to show all the work you do behind the scenes, the work people dont see, to make it all come together so nicely is recognized.
While USB 2.0 specification has a 480 Mbit/s max speed, the spec does not require the implementing chip to be capable of transferring at that speed. The iPod I bought in 2004 supported USB 2.0, but when measured, it only supported 15 Mbit/s, way below the max theoretical speed for the spec. So yes, it also supported FireWire, but only for marketing purposes.
@@TH-lu9du Oh that makes sense. thanks! Btw how fast is the latest fdata transfer over wifi (on average) is it more similar to using USB 2.0 or 3.0 or thunderbolt 4?
I bought this new iPhone Pro thinking that the new usb-c would make it easier and faster to download content to my PC but instead now it even worse. Any recommendations?
Action button sounds fine but I am bummed out that a dedicated Mute button is gone. The biggest thing I like about the current mute button is that I never have to look at the screen to know whether the phone is muted or not. Also it’s nice that you can do it discreetly, precisely because you don’t have to look at it and gave away your intention.
Agreed. Also, a mute switch is a lot harder to flick than a mute button is to press. I have my phone on silent 100% of the time thanks to that nice little switch. Will be interesting to see how the button works. I hope they have the ability to add some kind of delay/long press option for those of who constantly fat finger or pocket dial. lol
Some clarification on the "more repairable iPhone" bit: Apple had already designed the iPhone 14 and 14+ to be able to replace the back glass, but did not do so on the 14 Pro/Max. This generation they designed all the models to have replaceable back glass. I'm an Apple certified repair technician and thought that insight might be useful to some :)
Thank you to the European Union for giving us USB-C iPhones. Shame America don’t have the spine to have good pro-consumer laws and will bend over to any corpo that throws money at them.
(Edit) It’s good but I think they didn’t think about the long term additional waste of lightning cables and chargers probably coming in the next few years and that we will NEVER have a universal charger in the current time frame as to balance data, power, efficiency and safety is already requiring multiple usb-c cables. There is also the fact that universal systems tend to be less secure because it’s essentially a one trick pony for hackers to exploit even if it’s upgraded with additional hardware or software as the general code/ access rights are still the same.
I’m liking the USB C for the Pro models for the recording directly to my mini storage drives. And of course for travel - now a single cable for everything!
I think one of the most “Pro” features that they finally unlocked on the pro phones with usbc is recording photos and videos directly to a drive. Plus native Log video. Pretty niche sure, but I can imagine that’s a big deal for iPhone videographers & vlogers etc.
Ow yeah that sounds perfect for the few movies that actually get recorded on iPhone. I don’t think we are there yet for high budget movies but at least for some shots it’s gotten to a point you can record with a phone even on those. Imagine you might have a movie scene in a very cramped space, might be to small to have the actors and a huge camera setup in there. But obviously you’re gonna be shooting maxed out for a movie so that’s a lot of data. This way no need for a dedicated phone for this with maxed storage. Just any random one and connect a storage drive. Also it’s gonna take more time as well but they are clearly showing interest in making movies with the Apple vision thing in mind. As far as I know the iPhone is now the only camera that can record those depth videos they showed off. In a few years we might see those.
@@xanderwuskyThe misconception is blockbusters. There are dedicated cameras for high budget filmmaking. You are overlooking other productions, like short films, documentaries, indies, and music videos. Even budget films like ‘Tangerine’ were shot on iPhones.
@@Playstation4-i1v Yeah! It's hilarious now people are calling it a pro feature when it's already present even in budget Android phones. Micro SD and External Storage, BOTH
To me the big news is that we STILL have 60Hz screens on the base iPhone. Still... while $300 Android phones have been at 120Hz for a few years, now. Also wanted to mention... has anyone said anything about how Dynamic Island on the base model ends up taking up way too much screen on a fairly small phone?
@@emadahmed7145I agree. These phones should have at the very least 90Hz. To me, 60Hz is just unusable at this point because I'm so used to 120Hz. But I would understand if they went with 90Hz on the lower models. Apple being Apple lol
When iPhone was young every year felt like a huge upgrade. We’re long past that which, as a gadget lover, is sad, but there’s still a lot to look forward to in terms of incremental upgrades. I’ll always welcome a better camera and software to support it. The processor increases are kinda silly since I can’t really tell the difference between any of them in day to day use. The next mind blower needs to be some new battery tech.
@@Htiy which is a good thing. With the ever increasing cost of phones, a yearly upgrade is unsustainable (or unwise) for so many. I’m comfortable at 2 years and even that is a very first world kinda compromise
Fact that you filmed this video on the fly (outside of the studio) and still have it look so good and engaging just blows my mind. Speaks volumes for the kind of skill you have for content creation. Loved this.
@@ziskablyat8451The expensive camera still requires know-how to properly operate. Also, you still need to know what exactly to film, how to direct the video, etc. It comes from experience.
as an iPhone X user. I will only upgrade for the usb C honestly. nothing besides finally throwing lightning in the garbage and maybe a better screen is motivating me to upgrade... it's a shame there is no mini iPhones anymore though, if the iPhone SE4 is coming next year with an iPhone X or mini size I will happily wait. i really hate how we are forced to use bigger and heavier phones when there is no alternative except an even bigger phone.
I like the new action button, but all I've ever really wanted from my iPhone is what my OnePlus2 could do back in the day. I want a switch with 3 settings. Completely Silent, Vibrate, and Sound on. 2 options has felt limited ever since.
I'm using an iPhone 11 Pro (256 GB) and honestly, I don't see a single reason to change it to a new iPhone. I will probably get a new battery and wait another year to see what Apple shows next time. Especially since my current ecosystem is lightning-based. I have so many ready lightning cables around me (car, office, nightstand etc.) as well as other devices such as powerbanks so this will work just fine for the next year.
@URAZKIVANER The main camera is technically a wide lens. A bit of fish eye effect when taking close-up photos is completely normal. All modern smartphone cameras do that.
Great post. I’m so tired of reviewers acting like every new item is the best thing in the world and causing consumers to waste money. Thank you so much for being open and honest about the iPhone 15 Pro Max so now I can really decide if I even think it would be worth upgrading from a 13 Pro Max.
I bought the 13 Pro Max a while back, and while I have no complaints, I realized afterwards that I definitely just got wrapped up in the hype. I think I took all of maybe 10 photos and videos at the most lol. I generally just use it to text, call, peruse Reddit, etc. I'm just gonna get something cheap next time around.
They weirdly didn't show all the colours available for the pro models. After the event I wasn't sold on the titanium colour but they do it in dark blue and that's really nice. Not sure on the silent switch going though, I'll miss it. Being able to look at something physical on the phone to see whether it's silent has essentially been a part of my life since 2008. Gonna be a weird change.
Ordered the pro max this morning and despite everyone’s opinions I’m excited. It will be a huge upgrade from my 12 pro max. Too many of you fail to realize that the majority of users do NOT buy the new model every single year.
Something I think you glossed over: the Pros can record directly to an external USB-C drive. I guess that’s really only a benefit for filmmakers, content creators & the like, but it could potentially be a gateway to do much more…
I tend to leave my phone in silent mode 99% of the time, which means the mute switch hardly ever gets used. Changing it to an action button cleverly adds utility to an otherwise seldom used button (for me anyway).
For content creators on the Pro Max - one of things I am excited about will be being able to record directly to an external ssd drive. This will save a bunch of time editing and keep those files off the actual phone. I know a lot will not use this, but professionals will.
It’s more than that. You can record directly to the attached drive, and can then do 4K 60 Hz. You can only do 30 Hz if recording to the inbuilt memory.
To be honest, Apple is getting to complacent and people are just scared of change. If they are going to keep giving us the same design, they don’t need to release every year but I can say I appreciate your reviews and your breakdown of different technology equipment. Before I buy certain things, I will see if you did a review on it and watch it because you are very detailed and honest.
They will release every year so long as millions of people buy them every year. Not every person getting the 15/15 Pro has the current model. Some people may be upgrading from an X model and will see a huge difference.
@monagale34 this is what I am talking about, people honestly think because these tech RUclipsrs get a new phone every year because it is their job to do so then there should be magical updates every year. I have a 12 Pro Max and I have seen people comment “its the same as my 12 Pro Max”, they do not understand that not everyone upgrades every year, so for you and I this is a huge update.
Not everyone updates every year though. There are people who have 3+ year old iPhones that will upgrade this year and next there will be people with 2+ year old iPhones upgrading to the 16, etc. The 15 Pro is NOT meant for people that have the 14 Pro so I’m not why some people think Apple should not release a yearly phone.
Hey Marques, thanks for the video and congratulations on the shout out at the event. One thing you did not mention (unless I missed it) was recording video directly to external storage. Yes it is basically just a USB-C feature for the pro’s but that’s pretty big I think.
OMG that's insane! I didn't even know I needed that on a phone. So basically I get to just use the iPhone as a camera and go HAM on an external hard drive? Awesome.
Apparently the stock USB cable that comes with the Pro does not support USB 3.0 speeds, surprised he didn't mention that. Apple sells a USB 3.0 cable (extra, of course) so that's probably required to tether an external drive.
Had my iPhone 11 Pro Max for 4 years battery health was 74% decided to get a new battery and it’s crazy how much better it is now. Was really planning on getting the 15 pro max however not really seeing the point for me personally as I’m not as heavy as a user as I used to be. Used to upgrade every 2 years but my 11pm is really surprising me, still gets the job done very well. I can see myself keeping this same phone until it doesn’t recieve updates anymore 💀💀 USBC was something that intrigued me but at the end of the day 11 pro max can charge fast enough. Great video! What I’m hearing is it’s a good upgrade from like a 12, but otherwise the same phone as in the last years… It’s sad that the “top” phone on the market is missing baseline features that the competitors have had for years: fast charging, USB3+ speeds, good battery life (assuming there is no major difference from my 14Pro). Been an Apple guy for 15 years now, but the only thing stopping me from switching now is the cost of switching & iOS/MacOS. I don’t see the added value anymore from the device.
Having just switched from the 12 to the 15 pro, definitely worth it (but the base 15 is still a good upgrade if you don't care about usb 3, promotion, or the telephoto camera)
Once upon a time Apple displayed pride in being the first phones to include the newest (certified) specifications; like Thunderbolt. Building _only_ USB 3 support into their 2023 chip instead of 3.2 or even USB4 feels like a low blow and that they are happier holding out on us nowadays
Especially knowing that they can add Thunderbolt (like in iPad Pro). It makes more sense to have usb 3.x in normal 15 (which has DisplayPort in specs for the port, that makes me think that it’s some kind of artificial limitation for ppl to use iCloud) and Thunderbolt in Pro models, but… maybe next year
Not much holding out, really. iPhone 15 = same same iPhone 14 Nothing new, innovation is dead at Apple. Poor generation of clueless hipsters, now what are you going to stand in line for like zombies?
The fact that MKBHD had his name mentioned in the apple keynote and yet his reviews are honest and critical when required. That’s when you know this guy can’t be bought
I am very happy about the switch to USB-C, but my iPhone 13 is going on two years and running strong. This will be the first time in a while that I continue using a phone outside of the installment plan period (previous Android user), and so I'm pretty satisfied with that. I've already got the Lightning cables at home, so might as well keep using them to get more value out of the phone.
In 2 years you'll change your mind. I've only ever used apple and having to only use their chargers for 12 years makes you drool over USB. This is a game changer for us
What caught my attention is direct storage when tethered directly to a external storage device. Looking forward to see how creators make use of that function
This could’ve just been dropped all at once when they introduced ProRes video and ProRAW photos on the 12 lineup.. but yeah it took them 3 more years for usb C 😅.
They did nit used the invented or reinvented word.. they simply said you can charge your Mac and iPad with the same cable now.. by the way the company who care about the environment good if they are not making immediet decisions what can completly make all previous accessories to become to e-waste just with one decision.. not because they can't use it faster, they just gives a decent time for the accessory makers to empty their storage, and avoid bankrupt just because of a sudden change.. at least the still lightning port iPhone users can use the lightning accessories (and based on 1.5 billion active iPhone and about 200million yearly sales, the average lifespan of Apple iPhones about 8 years.. so those accessor8es become e-waste 8 years later..)

10:34 There is a very good reason for that. 24, 28 and 35mm are very common focal lengths that us photographers use. So now instead of having to guess your focal length or take the time to set to 1.2x or 1.5x, it's there to quickly access. Love it
I’m genuinely surprised Marques seemed thrown off by it. It’s very much so a photography-niche feature for those that really like shooting 35mm or whatever length. Plus, if I’m understanding it right, anything between 1x and 2x in the past was a digital crop of whatever 1x was shooting, but these new options actually crop the sensor to the exact size just like the 2x did last year in the 48MP sensor. Really handy
@@GracedSeeker763 It’s basically how cropped the sensor itself is. for example, if you have a full frame camera, you can have less light come in, crop the sensor and it will be a bit more zoomed in. which is different than if you just cropped the photo

They are saving Fast charging for iPhone 20.
While Samsung will be 3 steps ahead with another innovation technology that will take Apple another 3-5 years to call it something else to manipulate Apple users thinking this is all new Apple technology.
Yeah cause if they don’t, they won’t have anything to sell you! I might actually switch to Android at this point. Apple are thieves
They the best technology ON THE IPHONE, not in any other smartphone. It’s Apple users that probably think that is something new cuz they never heard of it and are highly disinformed about this stuff
Still no 10x optical zoom that samsung had in 2013 on the galaxy S4 zoom.
It's called courage.
😅😅😅who will buy iPhone 16 then😅😅😅well..apples sheeps will buy anything 😅😅😅
its not bad idea leaving out for future phones….in my opinion technology is getting way too fast. How can you improve a phone that has everything? That’s what people want from apple but in the end how can they improve….Apple can be a pain sometimes but i understand their view about innovations
But the 40 series isn't better at all... the 4060 is slower, for example.
What kind of features they could have add rigt now?

Yep. That feeling is gone.

Which is a good thing. People upgrading their phones every year is not good for the environment. Also this means that iPhones have insane resell value even after 2-3 years.

By the looks of it, the only difference for me (as a 14 pro max owner) is:

- usb C port
- screen brightness
- chip which probably isn’t even noticeably faster

I think the reason for the 1.2x camera setting is that they made the lens wider to 24mm equiv, and the 1.2x gets you back to 28mm how it always was, and then they also added 1.5x to get to 35mm, ”a very popular focal length in photography”, introducing more and more photography lingo into the phone.

That would be crazy expensive. It makes more financial sense to have one phone that they can sell everywhere.
Yeah, as if they would give all the features in one go. Need to save something for next year. Pretty sure they will make a big deal of faster transfer speeds and fast charging next year.
OnePlus got absolutely roasted in 2016 for putting USB-C in their 1+2 phone, but keeping the internal USB2 speeds

The Pro features are literally “never seen before”, and yet he says it is not that.
I don’t have that issue because everyone I know has an iPhone
Why not just switch to android then?
That’s also my biggest annoyance and it’s happened maybe once in the last 2 years

The Environment will be grateful.
Same thoughts from an iphone 13 pro max user here!
You can wait forever to upgrade because each year will just be incremental updates.

They can update that in tho

My thoughts. Itll be s “feature” in the next iphone. I love Apple, but stopped “upgrading” because they create a problem or purposely miss a feature so they can fix it in the next iphone. Theyre so running out of ideas
These upgrades feel unexceptional to me. Nothing compelling. We'd all worked around the slow lighting cable issue with Airdrop for videos and pics, so that doesn't really matter. For all the fuss made out of the 3 nm architecture, I would've expected better performance. I am interested to see that new zoom in action though.
Type C will drastically reduce the e-waste and now manufactures of accessories can make accessories compatible with both android and ios (given apple allows it)
And apple when this route only coz of eu regulations xd
The biggest change I think was the usb c
6:20 my iPhone 15 Pro charged from 20 to 85 in 25 minutes with the iPad charger and iPhone cable
As an android user, this is one of the best new feature's I've seen in iPhones for years. FINALLY When I ask people for a charger I won't have to be disappointed when they only have a lighting one!!
Oh yeah that happend alot on my work where ppl asked for a cable and i said i own iphonce … 😂
i feel they was obliged to do it because they run of innovation ideas
If apple get there way, ur friends still won't be able to help as apple are still making their usb c cables proprietary. They will only work with iphones. My sister bought an ipad mini a few months ago, and it has usb c, the usb c cable that came with it won't charge my samsung.
I heard the Apple chargers would only work good with an iPhone but that might be a rumor

This ! It makes processor upgrades way more meaningful.
I think its purely because they introduced native AI upscaling into Metal. So the game will probs run on like 70% resolution, upscaled. Might be barely hitting 30 fps as well lol
Same with Death Stranding, kinda insane
I mean it already has an android port in the form of a quest 2 game

Apple could easily win over the customer base of competitors if they stopped. I'm really disliking Android more with every new version released (yes, I'm already on Android 14 beta). Apple should stop locking features such as loading apps from outside their app store, or actually using new tech right when it comes out (USB-C shouldn't have taken anywhere this long, it's actually absurd).

The default option of changing the camera from 24mm to 28mm or 35mm is aimed at photographers. 35mm and 28mm are way more common focal lengths in everyday shooting than 24mm is, and focal length ultimately plays the biggest role when it comes to framing.

Looks like in future I'll need to pull it out, and boot up the screen to verify it's on silent.

the action button should have existed a decade ago.
It’ll probably be in an update
That would be overwhelming for iPhone users ;)
They still need to leave some room for the iPhone 16 and 17 lmao
I really wish they would have allowed you to map multiple actions to the new button. For example, hold to mute, double-click to open the camera and triple click to turn on Focus. Maybe we'll see that in the future.

@@DonTreply-dq5et The are getting their edges. So, they must save advanced features for the next gen XD

It's better to take the picture with the wider focal length and crop however you want afterward.
@@abdsalamelkhamlichi6677 Ah yes, taking 2 steps is better than 1. Especially when that second step involves eyeballing the correct crop and the first step involves eyeballing what will be in frame once you crop it.

It’s good but I think they didn’t think about the long term additional waste of lightning cables and chargers probably coming in the next few years and that we will NEVER have a universal charger in the current time frame as to balance data, power, efficiency and safety is already requiring multiple usb-c cables.
There is also the fact that universal systems tend to be less secure because it’s essentially a one trick pony for hackers to exploit even if it’s upgraded with additional hardware or software as the general code/ access rights are still the same.

Poor generation of clueless hipsters, now what are you going to stand in line for like zombies?
no matter what slop they dump in the trough, Apple Fanboys will eat it.
Gotta leave something for next year
@@TheLastRelevantSage2no one stands in line anymore come on
The fact that MKBHD had his name mentioned in the apple keynote and yet his reviews are honest and critical when required. That’s when you know this guy can’t be bought
Everyone just overlooks the AV1 hardware decoder and what it signals about the future of video streaming.
This is a game changer for us
Friendly reminder they didn't try to do this til the EU forced their hand. They're still a shitty company.
I have my iPhone 13 and really want to upgrade
@@justindaniels411who is us? This changes nothing, not that big of a deal
@@justindaniels411 lmao, its just a charger haha
What caught my attention is direct storage when tethered directly to a external storage device. Looking forward to see how creators make use of that function
🧐🧐
This could’ve just been dropped all at once when they introduced ProRes video and ProRAW photos on the 12 lineup.. but yeah it took them 3 more years for usb C 😅.
Yeah, it'll definitely enable more people to use their iphone for recording RUclips videos, for people that can't afford more expensive cameras

Welcome to 2015...
I can't believe Apple finally invented USB-C. This is huge!
Invented? Android had type C for 4 yrs 😂

What does the mm mean? It’s not like it’s changing the size of the sensor. So what does 24mm vs 35mm do?
@@GracedSeeker763 It’s basically how cropped the sensor itself is.
for example, if you have a full frame camera, you can have less light come in, crop the sensor and it will be a bit more zoomed in. which is different than if you just cropped the photo
@@GracedSeeker763 if you have to ask, you are obviously not a photographer and this feature is meaningless to you. Carry-on.
