I think it would be cool to see a “is it worth upgrading” type video. Where you compare the 15/15pro against previous generations of iPhone to see how many improvements have been made. I feel like a lot of people I know are hanging on to their iPhones longer nowadays, especially given how long they support their older devices. I myself am still rocking my 11 Pro Max in Midnight Green
I've been holdin' onto an 8 Plus since 2017, plan to upgrade this year - at least for me, "worthiness" in terms of an upgrade comes from whether or not my current device fulfills my needs anymore. Don't replace what ain't broke. Unfortunately, this year might be the year it does lol.

Would love to see a comparison of the 3x lens photos quality between iPhone 15 Pro Max vs iPhone 15 Pro / 14 Pro / 13 Pro since the 15 Pro Max doesn’t have it anymore. I’m still using my iPhone 13 Pro using and loving the 3x camera the most. Currently I am not planning to upgrade since the 13 Pro is still almost perfect

I’d love to see your take on how the pro max has become the “pro pro” while the 15 pro is left out certain features. Each time I have felt compelled to get the max because otherwise I’m leaving better features on the table when I would much rather have a phone that actually fits in my hand. There’s a reason I have an iPad. Maybe they could put a really awesome camera and those cool features that need a larger form factor in the iPad?

I think it's a 'Tic-Tock' kinda thing. Same was on 12 (and/or 13 if I remember correctly) models, when Pro Max had better features. But with 14 Pro and Maxes they were literally the same. I think next gens might be similar again. Maybe a marketing strategy.
I'd love to see how the pro and regular phones handle content consumption. If there's any changes or glitches and old cases fit in the new ones. The coloured glass seems really washed out in other videos. Also, how is the charging with the new braided cables? Which iPhone would be best for people who are heavy users but don't shoot video content.

I’d love to see how the 15 pro photo and video quality compare to a couple of older generations, as well as how it compares to some high-end cameras. Dynamic range, color accuracy, etc

I would love to see how the pro max handles zooms between 2x and 5x. I want the 5x zoom of the pro max, but that desire is tempered a bit if the gap from 2x to 5x isn't handled well.
Essentially, I'd love to see side-by-side photos of 3x and 4x.
From what ive heard, its not great but its also not completely terrible.
it's still the same 48MP sensor from last year, (Apple makes no mention of new sensor on the specs page, even mentioning it uses 2nd gen sensor shift tech. So those extra zoom levels past 2x aren't going to be very artifact-free... Despite what Apple might claim, even Marques has been critical of the artifacting with Samsung and others, so I would hope he holds similar opinions of software trickery on Apple's devices too, despite meeting Tim Cook.)

Would love to see the camera capabilities with each lens, both handheld and on a tripod.
I got my iPhone 15 Thursday.
I like the frosted/satin glass back. Much better than the glossy back on the 13.
I also noticed the curved edges of the display. It feels more comfortable to hold, although I always have my phone in a case.
The Dynamic Island is much better than the notch.
on screen, the natural looks the best out of all of them. Can't wait to actually see them in person next week.

Action button assigned to Shortcuts + the accessibility double tap and triple tap on the back of the phone to do other actions will be pretty sweet. I’ve had screenshot assigned to triple tap for a while now and that works out pretty well.

"Can you map another function for double press for the new action button?" is 1 of my very first thoughts about that new feature. and you confirmed it for me. I think Apple might have planned to update that double-press behavior in a later iOS version.
And that'll be as soon as the Action Button makes it to the base line. Then they're tout double-press or triple-press as a "new" feature.

I like that the action button can be used to switch between focus modes, but I’d also love to see the functionality of the action button change depending on what focus mode you are in.
That would be great, but you could already achieve this with a Shortcut. Just make the shortcut check which focus mode is active and then trigger your desired shortcut from there accordingly

It's improved by a decent amount maybe 10-20% give or take, scratch that it's same somehow?? How tf they mess that up 3nm is like 30% more efficient... they wasted it all for 15% performance ,they messed up something

I personally think that the action button would be more versatile if I could also customize the shortcuts on the Lock Screen. I could see the action button being interesting as a camera function if I could change that button on the Lock Screen to some other toggle
Glad you mentioned the odd action button UI. I'm confused why they went with that 3D with floating icons approach instead of a normal list like every other setting. That would let you see all the available options at a glance instead of having to scroll through them. Apple is usually pretty good when it comes to UI cohesiveness so it definitely feels out of place and "stapled on" like you described.
I really love the Action Button UI, but that’s just me.

@@jasonsims007 I'm not so sure about that. The 3d view almost certainly required more design and dev effort than a standard list of options like when choosing what app to open. But imo it was more work for an inferior user experience which is strange given Apple's pretty solid UX track record.
I guess the normal settings would make it feel less revolutionary feature

I'd love to see a proper comparison between the 120mm and the 77mm cameras, stabilisation/low light performance/ how tight are the close ups between the two, I've shot two shortfilms with the 13 Pro Max and the 77mm genuinely has a cinematic look. My gut feeling is that the 120mm might be too much zoom for most use cases where you need close ups of people.

I would love a “Is it worth upgrading” segment where you’d advice certain xs, xs max, 11, etc. users whether is it worth the hefty amount to upgrade.
Ehh it depends if you need it for something but if you just gonna use it for regular day 2 day stuff you would be fine and should not waste your money
@@silentking5080 Great advice. I’m currently using XS and it still holds up great. The camera is still top tier but the battery can sometimes be clanky.
Iphones are rarely worth the starting retail price at launch, more so outside USA. Wait for deals.
@@youngattorney3722 As a hard user of smartphones (and as a brazillian, trust me when i say this plays a heavy role to changing and therefore buying a new iphone because here the apple produtcs are really expensive) i always verify some points, which i will share with you hoping it can help:
1. Do i have the money to buy this or i will have to use credits and other means of payment that maybe will compromise my financial planning?
2. Do i mortally need any of the upgrades otherwise my job will be compromised significantly?
3. Is the upgrades worth the money or im just being manipulated by some sort of social engeneering or marketing technique to feel the need to buy? (my opinion is that mostly none of the upgrades of one generation are worth, like Iphone xs to 11, especially the 14 to 15, when the biggest modification is the USB-C, whilst the cameras are pretty much the same)
4. This point is not a question to self ask but i believe that if you have a practical need it will probably show up itself, in a way that you can't ignore.
If i have the means to pay and not compromise my plans, the upgrades are indeed useful for me and for my job and the upgrade is worth, i think you should change your phone. On the otherhand, if any of these questions is a "no", i wouldn't change the phone.
Ps:. This points probably will not make any sense if you're rich or an apple enthusiast and the expense with a new phone is irrelevant.
Ps2: If you have the money, i think in your case it's worth upgrading for a 14 pro series with dynamic island and the 48MP sensor and other features, it's awesome.

@@jlgoulart1 thanks for the very detailed response. I’m from SEA and these things can go for really high price tags on launch. Number 4 makes so much sense and thank you for saying that. When my old phone broke and I upgraded, I didn’t even think of these because of your number 4 reason. And one instance as well where my mom’s phone broke down and she needs a new one.
I'd love to see the camera improvement between the 15 pro max and the 13 pro max, mostly because there was the "huge" camera jump from the 13 to the 14, so seeing the even bigger difference would be sweet! I heard a lot of people skipped the 14 (as did I), so a lot may still have a < 13 so seeing the bigger leap may benefit a lot
Ray tracing, Camera upgrades, usb c, and more is such a big upgrade from iPhone 13 Pro. People keep downplaying it but I might upgrade.
@@xroyalstevenx9151 ray tracing isn’t anything massive of a difference, no one should be buying it for that. The camera upgrade is fantastic and should’ve happened years ago. USB C is a welcomed change but this marks the start of a phase out but the infrastructure for the proprietary connection is still there on basically every in use model.
Idk about ray tracing, it's kinda useless unless you game, but the USB c and camera upgrades for sure tho.

I’m looking for 14 Pro Max, the new sensor with 5x zoom appears great for me, on my 12 I endure to zoom when needed… Also the new Titanium Blue is awesome, I missed it from 12 Pro

I’ve been on a 3 YR refresh cycle but just traded a 13PM for a 15PM. It definitely feels like a big jump the last refresh cycle.
One of the major questions with the 15 Pro Max and how it differs from previous generation iPhones e the way the new 5x zoom lens affects Portrait Mode, not just the image quality itself, but the usability and practicality aspects of dealing with such a large zoom increase (from previous 3x zoom). I use 3x Portrait Mode a lot, this is in fact the main factor to make me decide on an upgrade to the latest iPhone or not... I'm really concerned that the 120mm 5x zoom will make it very difficult to use Portrait Mode in several scenarios. So, if you can make a review very much focused in comparing Portrait Mode on the new 15 Pro Max and previous generations, specifically at 3x and 5x zoom and how different approaches and strategies are necessary to shoot the same subjects with these different zoom ranges, it would be really useful.
I got a pixel 7 pro with 5x zoom and portrait shots are a bit difficult to shoot cause of that. But somehow it works if you are prepared
I also use the 3x a lot for portraits with my S22 and wouldn't trade it for any other zoom, I think Samsung makes the right recision with the Ultra by keeping the 3x with the 10x. My guess is next year Apple will release the 16 Pro Max with 4 cameras to fix that.
The 14 pro max had better camera and zoom. And of course every knows about s23 ultra camera.
PetaPixel did test this on their RUclips-channel and there is basically no difference in quality.

Watching this in my 15 Pro! I just switched over from Samsung after years of using only Samsung and I absolutely love this phone so far.
I went to the Apple store to see which colour I preferred on the Pro model, and while playing with the cameras I got a few mixed results on side by side shots from the pro max on the 5x telephoto and the pro at 5x digital zoom. Would be interested to see if you’ve noticed any differences

The iPhone 14 pro battery isn't good at all. I had mine for less than a year and its health is 87%. A lot of people have been saying the same thing.

iPhones' coatings on stainless steel are pretty thick and durable except for really deep scratches. So I'd assume the same for titanium. But I still like lighter colors more this year. The blue one was the least popular one on preorder day.

Hi there. I’ve been playing with the new iPhone 15 pro 256gb since Friday and have noticed an unexpected and significant improvement.
Probably down to the arrival of the faster USB-C and perhaps the overall spec bump
either way the phone in wired Carplay mode in our landrover discovery sport sees significant improvements in responsiveness.

Re Action Button: A feature that I’d like added is the ability to define app specific actions that supersede a predefined default action. For example, if I’m using the Camera app, the Action Button becomes a shutter button. But when I exit the Camera, it defaults to mute.
why not just use the volume buttons?
He was just taking an example. It is a fair ask unless they introduce it 5 years later and then ask extra $500 for it
Yes, poor example. Another reason this is a poor example: if you define the Action button to launch the camera app, it becomes the shutter button whilst in the camera app.

Not bad! a few aesthetic things I really enjoy, the screen all across the board looks pretty nice, I love that new simple packaging design to peel off the two tabs, the film on the screen is a nice touch and isn’t just the bare screen once opened, of course the new charging port, and especially the little button on the side to map out whatever you want on the phone! I really want to see a comparison between the Pro Max zoom and the S23 Ultra zoom. Since moving to Apple that is the thing I miss the most. iOS 17 corrected most of the other shortcomings.

@@ciuvarioan7445idk the tetraprism sensor seems pretty sick for the higher zoom. Obviously Samsung has mastered the telephoto, but most people don't use that function outside of taking pictures of the moon.

The reason for Lightning iPhone receiving power, is because Lightning is a client/slave only connector. The USB-C end is host mode only, so it will usually always charge it. On USB-C, at least on Android, you can choose to switch the connection, which will switch between host and slave mode to choose which device is charged.
Would really love to see the sensor crop zoom options, the 5X telephoto zoom and how it stacks up with the best zoom phones, the new sensors compare with Samsung, the processor speeds and stuff with the M1 iPad or the Mac Air. How does the two chips compare? Can ya cover all of these please?
Would be interesting to hear at what level iPhone this would be a good upgrade. A lot of reviews compare it to only the last gen iPhone where there is only minimal changes. But most people don't upgrade after a year. I got a 12 pro max and felt this was a great time to upgrade as it has a lot more features than I currently have. Feels like the final form since the 12 was released with this design.

I enjoy his videos but he's really trying to hard on this one. He basically summed it up at the end when he said The upgrade on the non-pro version is better than you think which means the upgrade in a pro version is not an upgrade. This is definitely an "S" model year.

Will you talk about the overheating issue for the IPhone 15 pro max and Apple's lower standards for the A17 Pro chip. The A17 Pro is the first 3nm chip it increased performance but it also seems to be causing the chip to overheat
Maybe a camera progression comparison could be interesting. Take the same shots with primaries of 12-15 pro models.
Many people might want to judge how much better the results practically are (or not).
Lighting is the key, even iPhone 6 can give excellent results, hdr i understand but not a lot of people need it or use it

@@aakashkatageri3273 I didn't plan on upgrading, but Apple has forced my hand here. The X has reached end of support, I can no longer receive iOS updates. I think the XR is supposed to be supported until 2025, so you have some time to think it over.

I think the usability of the action button would be much better if a triple or double tap was recognized. I come from a One Plus device where "shortcuts" for various actions are already a great convenience. For example, it only ever takes milliseconds to activate the flashlight or the camera. So it would be great if even more action button functions could be customized. For example skipping songs or calling a fav. contact. But since it's Apple, they will also find a way to sell this "premium" feature....
You can both skip songs and call anyone using shortcuts which can be assigned to the action button. Shortcuts can do pretty much anything
It feels like a feature Apple wouldn’t do. Coming from being an android die hard, those kinds of things have always been unreliable or fire randomly. Obviously Apple would do fine to code it, but they always like to do “one purpose per feature” type deals. And ensure it can be reliable

I'd love to see a comparison between the 3x telephoto lens of the regular Pro model vs. the new 5x 120mm telephoto lens of the Pro Max. Obviously, the zoom is different, but I was thinking in terms of quality or other things of note.

I wanted the larger phone, but I don't think the 5x zoom is anywhere near as useful.
I would be happy if apple put the 3x on the non-pro models. But I understand they have to screw over customers any way they can.
quality wise, the pro should be better than the 5x on the pro max. they're just cropping the image lol

Along with a double and triple press on the action button I would love to see accelerometer gestures that can be mapped. That was my favorite feature of Motorola phones. So handy to shake or twist for a function

Back in the day I had a moto G and loved the double twist camera gesture followed by the satisfying haptic feedback. It was also a perfectly small size and featured an AMOLED always on display. This was like 10 years ago

It’s really personal preference at this point. If you’re weaker & more accident prone get the 15 pro. If you’re stronger & less accident prone keep your 14 pro. With the iOS 17 update, nothing internally is worth upgrading from 14 pro to 15 pro. (By weaker & stronger I’m not saying overall strength, I mean personally what weight you’re more comfortable with in your arm/hand for long periods of time)

Would be great to see some nighttime photography (portraits and bar shots) as well as night sky / star photography for the 15 Pro.
I love taking night shots on my 13 Pro, which was a big improvement on my iPhone XR, but there’s a lot of room for improvement.
I was wondering the same.....I've had my XR for what seems like forever now and am finally gonna upgrade to the 15 and can't wait to see how pics come out.
I had my 12 Pro Max, then 13 Pro Max - and the 13PM did better with astro (which seeing how much of the 13 Pro's camera improved over the 12 Pro Max, biggest reason why I upgraded after 1 year) - that said I saw nary improvements with last year's iPhone 14 Pro line, and maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised with these new Pro models. All that aside, I find the lack of a true dedicated astro mode from Apple to be a bit of slack on Apple's part, and maybe one day we'll see it happen.
As for reviews, astrophotography reviews are typically reserved to specialist photographers and general consumers. There's a RUclipsr here - Shayne Mostyn - who reviews smartphone astro capabilities on his farm in Australia. You can also find astro photos posted by people on the iPhoneography subreddit from time to time.
