I shave against the grain because it gives the closest shave with the least number of passes, so I find it to overall be less irritating and less likely for me to get razor burn/cut myself (plus using a really moisturizing shave cream like Cremo, and the only razor I've found that gives a really close shave is the Suave Hydro Silk (it's even better than the men's razors I've tried!)). Personally I shave then immediately exfoliate with a sugar scrub and don't feel any irritation (doing in the reverse order burns so much)! It really helps reduce ingrown hairs for me. Also moisturizing every day until my next shave helps keeps the hair a tad less "rough/prickly" feeling to help minimize irritation.
I do this as well with an electric razor! No matter what I do shaving along the grain doesn't do anything and I end up having to rub really hard to get even some of the hair to shorten, even then the hair is still clearly visible.

Cremo Shaving Cream (Barber Grade)! Absolutely stopped using all other aerosol shave creams after I found this. The smallest amount creates a thin & slick lather to prep the skin for shaving - way less cuts & drying on the skin. Never going back after finding that product. 👏

My favorite shave cream of all time is the Pure Romance line. It is super moisturizing and leaves the skin soft and smooth. A tiny bit goes a LONG way. I don't shave as often or have as much hair regrowth! Bonus: it doubles as a hair conditioner!
Thank you for showing the "men's " razor. Ive been using men's Gillette sensor or mack 3 for 30 years. The replacement blades are cheaper than the "women's " blades. They last several shaves before replacement.
My leg hair is fine and almost impossible to do a wet shave. The fine hairs will end up limp and sticking to my skin when wet and I have to do multiple passes. So I prefer a dry shave over anything else and couldn’t imagine why anyone will do a wet shave. After seeing this video I finally understand that it only works for me because I moisturise my skin a lot so that’s why I haven’t experienced razor burns. Sharing my experience on how the video’s advice might work differently for different people ❤
I love and recommend using a safety razor where the blade can simply be removed and cleaned or exchanged once the blade is dull! Its cheaper in the long run, you get a closer shave and it's more environmentally friendly. However, it's vital to find a good blade though, some blades are crap imo!
Yup. Safety razors also use fewer blades. Gentler on skin and thus nothing gets snagged between them. Their slighty heavier weight feels secure to hold too imo. Cheaper in the long run and there are places with sampler packs of blades.
Thanks Dr. Adedeji! I exfoliate & use a 5 or 6 blade Men razor. Apply Alcohol, Toner, & sweet Almond oil or Shea butter. I'll be shaving until I'm ready to do Laser Hair Removal on those areas. 😊
So I eventually wanna move to waxing but until then ladies here is my routine that leaves me extra smooth and has extremely reduced irritation/ingrown/hyperpigmentation. 1.I take a shower and exfoliate with a gentle scrub. 2. I get out the shower dry off completely. 3. I use a menz ELECTRIC shaver to get the hair down as much as possible. 4. Then I use a body oil I made, (use your fav oil/oil blend) and I put the oil over everything I’m gonna shave 5. I shave lol 6. I get back In the shower and make sure everything is clean and exfoliate just ever so gentle one more time with the scrub. 7. I get out, dry off and use some bio oil to moisturize the area. I use Bio Oil because it’s specifically designed to even skin tone. I have noticed a big difference in the appearance of my bikini area. No more itch when it grows back, my skin isn’t dry, and my ingrown/hyperpigmentation has reduced about 98%. I’ve been doing this routine for 4 months now. I shave probably 2-3 times a month. EDIT: for extra extra care, you can use a gentle toner on the skin before applying the Bio oil (or whatever moisturizer you use), make sure to gently message the oil in for like 30 secs. Also if you have some time to pamper, putting a safe mask (same as if you were getting a facial) can be done as well after shaving and before moisturizing.
When I was an exotic dancer, Bikini Zone gel after shaving kept my skin smooth, bumpless, and without ingrowns or itch. It stings at first, but it's not bad. My skin down there was always so smooth and soft.
This is why I like to use Veet or Nair, especially if I haven't shaved in a while. It doesn't irritate my skin, but shaving can. Plus shaving leaves me with little dark spots of stubble. And I'm more likely to miss spots. I can use razors on my pits or for a touch-up...
@@DrSimiAdedeji I used hair removal cream and got cuts on both armpits. After a few days I got boils on my armpits and they r painful some of them have burst but some are still there and painful. I went to the hospital and was prescribed some antibiotics. I don’t know what to do but one thing for sure I will never use hair removal creams ever again. Lesson learnt

Wowsers, all these years and I never thought of man's razors. I am going to buy some when I go shopping this week. Thanks Dr Simi, from your fellow Londoner.
There have been times when I chose to dry shave because I missed a patch on my arms or legs. Not only is it painful, but I’m pretty sure some of the bumps have been permanent 😅
Most razors get blunt very fast. You'd assume that hair wouldn't be able to blunt metal that fast but it honestly does. I only use my blades 3-4 times maximum before throwing them away. You'll notice a big difference between the old one and the new one and that's because the old one is blunt. If it's blunt you're more likely to cut yourself and cause ingrown hairs etc. Obviously this can get expensive but if you get an old school single blade safety razor you can cut down the price significantly.
thankyou so much doctor. I have very sensitive skin and looks like I've been doing everything i could wrong. No wonder I my skin is always complaining and punishing me.
Good video. I shave in the shower and I've had good results for underarms and legs to go with the grain once over then again against the grain once over. Back of knees with the grain only. Lotion after working in lightly with last motion moving with the grain on my legs. Deodorant applied to underarms using downward motion only. Works for me.
I'm not an English speaker but the RUclips recommended me your video, then I knew you just now but I liked so much of your video and of yours tips. I'll see more times. Thanks a lot
I have atopic dermatitis and no matter how I try to remove hair, my skin always gets irritated and bumpy in the end. Even when following all the tips in the video. Even dupilumab didnt help in this case... Getting so tired of not being able to be smooth without the pain!
Would be cool if you discussed differences between legs and (for men) face. I started using a better blade but my skin is drier. Started using more moisturizer
I've had "strawberry legs" for years where I just constantly have little red bumps all over my legs, even if I don't shave for a while. Are there any products available that can help with this?
I only ever shaved my legs once and was so unhappy with the disgusting feel of the stubble a couple of days later that I vowed never to do that again. From that day it was either hot-waxing or an Epilady and a firm resolution to never, ever shave my legs again.
I agree that shaving is not for everyone and there are several other hair removal options to be explored, so it’s all about finding the one that best suits your needs. 😊❤
i started shaving bikini with the grain in diagonal few months ago for the first time in 25years of shaving and i have no irritation, no strawberry skin, no ingrowth hair and the shaving smoothness is enough for me
I use an epilator for my legs. The results last longer than a shave. Sometimes an ingrown hair. But easy to fix. I tried to use an epilator under my arms but found out that it hurt there.
THANK YOU SO MUCH Dr. Simi for your work, dedication and ultimately decision to create this channel. I'm not sure how you came up in my algorithm, but its the best thing that was ''offered'' to me. I am sure there are other channels on this topic, I never felt the need to look for this subject, but after watching few of your video on topics like period color, period poop and so on, I am now watching the video of shaving, which is so important to me, but never thought to google for it. Now I don't need to see other potential channels, you got me on with this topics but not less important, with your- your clear knowledge, dedication, love for your work and in the world in Y.T. - the way you explain things, factual, to the point as well, and your cadence of speaking is so engaging. So I subscribed immediately during this video, which I will watch again to pay more attention. Basically I found not only a channel I never thought I would need, but also is perfectly produced and thought out. From now on, I can only short support and hope to see your channel grow, because one thing is for sure, WE all have this experiences, and we might ask a friend or a doctor, but not about all the things you talk about in your videos. I have SOOO many questions ( not because I can't google them or I am a young female), but because I am 38 year old female, who never had a child or abortions ( just for contexts) but as I am getting older, the severity of my cramps increase at least 2-3 times per year, to the point I am not able to walk or stay at work, while other months I can go through it with basic menstrual pill. Which still hurts but at least I can walk. I often wonder would it be any different If a was pregnant once in my life, or this is how is going to be for the rest of my life. Getting in more and more and more pain. You may have even answered this in one of your videos, but as I've said, I RARELY subscribed to someone after watching 3-4 videos. But i know for a fact almost, that I got my self a video worth subscribing to. P.S. I will probably ask something particular that I am curious to know why or how, but that will probably happen when the appropriate video is playing and seeing you engage with your audience in the comments, I am even more encouraged to ask if something comes up. All the best of luck, Martina
I would recommend the aveeno gel. I am allergic to it but the allergic rxn is more of a tingling unlike most shaving cream products where it irritates me immediately i put it on my skin. I am allergic to paraben mix which it contains. If you are not, that cream is good for you. I was going to shave soon so this video came at a good time.
I haven't shaved anything but my old lady beard in years and it's all fine. I always found the pain after shaving wasn't worth it unless I absolutely had to. When I used to go to my gynecology appointments I would 1st shave my pubic area, underarms and legs until my doc told me to stop. She said it actually was bad for my health and made tiny tears in the skin allowing staph infections to take hold.
This really helped me, as I get a shaving type infections, doctors have given me creams but they don’t work, I use an epilator for my legs but it leaves them sore and irritated, could you please do a video on different options than shaving that are more on the gentle side ( I also tried hair removal cream, but I ended up having a reaction to it ) xx
Should I put lotion ALL OVER my body after I shower? Or is it okay if I just put it on my face afterwards but not in the rest of my body or neck or chest etc?
I also have a video on *LASER HAIR REMOVAL* (if you are interested) > ruclips.net/video/gzjEsfFd2yw/видео.html *Which products are you using that help your shaving routine??* How is it possible that shaving seems so easy but then so many of us experience shaving related skin issues. Of course there are several alternatives for hair removal but shaving is still up there with one of the most popular methods of hair removal especially if you are short of time and on the go.😉 Feel free to share what works for you.
Thank you for the tips! And I totally agree with exfoliating. I prefer to use an exfoliating glove a couple of times a week. This helps my skin to look better, have fewer breakouts, and feel even smoother after using lotions or oils.
Shaving gels really help ...plus men's razor sharp one. Be gentle, moisture later. One thing I do if I have irritation, I do not shave again until it is healed, only on healthy skin shaving is ok, for me at least. Some kind of powder help in summer not to sweat on some parts, because if you sweat and it is freshly shaved the salt can make irritation on the skin. You do not need to use powder the day after just after the save ...on some parts that get the red dots from sweat, if you do not know what I mean, you are lucky. I have heard that safety razor is a good option, I plan to get one.

Thank you for sharing your tips! 😊
Yup. Safety razors also use fewer blades. Gentler on skin and thus nothing gets snagged between them. Their slighty heavier weight feels secure to hold too imo. Cheaper in the long run and there are places with sampler packs of blades.
@@DrSimiAdedejiplease How can I have your number please
Thanks Dr. Adedeji! I exfoliate & use a 5 or 6 blade Men razor. Apply Alcohol, Toner, & sweet Almond oil or Shea butter. I'll be shaving until I'm ready to do Laser Hair Removal on those areas. 😊
You’re welcome!😊 I have a video on laser hair removal which may help!
I knew most of them but it is great to refresh knowledge!
Dr. Adedeji's perspective of applying pressure as if shaving a balloon without popping it, is tremendously helpful🎈
This video is helpful. Can you please make a video on how to get rid of dark skin and take care of our under arms?
So I eventually wanna move to waxing but until then ladies here is my routine that leaves me extra smooth and has extremely reduced irritation/ingrown/hyperpigmentation.
1.I take a shower and exfoliate with a gentle scrub.
2. I get out the shower dry off completely.
3. I use a menz ELECTRIC shaver to get the hair down as much as possible.
4. Then I use a body oil I made, (use your fav oil/oil blend) and I put the oil over everything I’m gonna shave
5. I shave lol
Thank you!
@@Relaxed_25 😋🙏🏾♥️
You only need to shave 2 to 3 times a month?
@@Serenityblu23 Could be preference. Also, reducing the times you shave can help to achieve an improvement in the skin.
😊Thank you for sharing your experience!

Every time after shaving, it was really itchy,, but now i understand how to do it 🥰🥰thank you so much ❣️

Thank you for sharing your experience. 😊
I wish your videos were top results after searching for how to prevent ingrowns, so informative. Thanks!
thankyou so much doctor.
Very detailed, just what I needed thank you so much Doctor ❤️
I’m glad it was helpful! 😊
I'm not an English speaker but the RUclips recommended me your video, then I knew you just now but I liked so much of your video and of yours tips. I'll see more times. Thanks a lot
i love the way you explain things....you are a good teacher.
Thank you! 😃
@@DrSimiAdedeji you're welcome.
Thanks I learnt that I should always wash my blades
I actually learnt new tecniques with this videos, congrats
My world changed when someone suggested I use conditioner as a shaving "gel". I have KP and it's really helped.
I switched to men's razor and shave against the grain. And ofcourse I exfoliate before shaving. This works well for me
Thank you for thoroughly explaining this! Greatly appreciated.
I have atopic dermatitis and no matter how I try to remove hair, my skin always gets irritated and bumpy in the end. Even when following all the tips in the video. Even dupilumab didnt help in this case... Getting so tired of not being able to be smooth without the pain!
I use conditioner before and after shaving and it works perfectly for me.😊
Would be cool if you discussed differences between legs and (for men) face. I started using a better blade but my skin is drier. Started using more moisturizer
I've had "strawberry legs" for years where I just constantly have little red bumps all over my legs, even if I don't shave for a while. Are there any products available that can help with this?
Omg i didn't realise ppl actually shaved dry. Thats terrible. Poor things
Ofc they didnt know
This is literally me
Well, used to be me. I ain't doing that shit no more
I always shave my legs dry
THANKYOUSOMUCH, i am a pre teen and ima start shaving soon, Ty for helping
I only ever shaved my legs once and was so unhappy with the disgusting feel of the stubble a couple of days later that I vowed never to do that again. From that day it was either hot-waxing or an Epilady and a firm resolution to never, ever shave my legs again.
I agree that shaving is not for everyone and there are several other hair removal options to be explored, so it’s all about finding the one that best suits your needs. 😊❤
How do you deal with the pain? LIke i can't do anything except shaving because it hurts too much..
You really know what you're talking about and very smooth 😂 at explaining... Thanks...😊
i started shaving bikini with the grain in diagonal few months ago for the first time in 25years of shaving and i have no irritation, no strawberry skin, no ingrowth hair and the shaving smoothness is enough for me
Well done Simi! Perfect blend in your language between moderate complexity and utter simplicity. Super thumbs up!
All the best of luck,
Martina
I would recommend the aveeno gel. I am allergic to it but the allergic rxn is more of a tingling unlike most shaving cream products where it irritates me immediately i put it on my skin. I am allergic to paraben mix which it contains. If you are not, that cream is good for you. I was going to shave soon so this video came at a good time.
😄 Seems like RUclips is reading your mind! Thank you for sharing your experience.
Thank you Dr simi, you're an angel of mercy ❤️🤍✅
You’re welcome. I hope you enjoy the video. ☺️
Should I put lotion ALL OVER my body after I shower? Or is it okay if I just put it on my face afterwards but not in the rest of my body or neck or chest etc?

What is the difference between epidermis and stratum cornium?
Could you discuss about the genetic warts on women
I use PFB vanish...been my saviour since i discovered it. Even my dark spots from razor bumbs are all gone.
Thanks, very much, for this info. Would you, please, make a vid on cysts?? I developed cysts after giving birth, AND CAN'T SEEM TO GET RID OF THEM 😥. What--if any--what be successful in removing them?

I’ve been using men’s razors for years and always use shaving cream/gel and a SHARP razor.
Thank you. Since I implemented a stripper's advice on shaving from reddit, I haven't had any irritation after shaving. However, I sometimes get random ingrown hairs on my pubic area weeks after (I have about two now, one healed. I haven't shaved since 2023). I wonder what causes these? It's so painful and annoying
