Hi... some really great tips here. I'd like to offer up a couple that I use. 1. I use a small round bamboo skewers to pack out the hinge holes. 2. I use an "air wedge" to raise and lower the door to align the hinges. If you haven't seen an "air wedge" they are a great tool has a small hand ball pump and bag. Perfect tool for the job. @@TheClickClick Painter and decorator 10 years uk thats is true sometimes and they probably weren't decorators anyway most likely handymen or gardeners that do that we have to work to budget a lot of time and we can't cover all the prep especially if the job is far away i don't mind losing a day if the job is only a couple a villages away

Many homeowners are just looking for the cheapest price without understanding value. A good contractor will educate the customer on best practices and materials, and offer a couple of options. It’s all about managing expectations and making sure that everything is in writing and spelled out on your contract.

4:50 I have to say thank you very much for the recommendation on this paint. I have been struggling with tacky, easily peelable latex paint from Valspar on my interior doors. The I tried many different iterations on painting techniques with that stuff and could not find a solution. The Sherwin Williams Pro Classic was perfect.
Just did the same exact thing in my house I just purchased a year ago. Sanded all doors, calked and used bin primer with Benjamin Moore paint on them with black hardware. Came out amazing,

Very Good method . use a damp rag when caulking, vacuum the floor before spray painting . if you take the carpet out the door painting can be painted in a room upstairs , Bin primer very good primer , maybe a little over kill as primer in a sprayer , Use the Airless sprayer for the doors too. like a NEW house!

I loved the video! My 90s home had so much wainscotting and wanted to paint it white. I made the mistake of buying a paint with a primer and didnt know about caulking. I did when the pandemic started to keep busy. Im.going to apply all.of your tips when I tackle my kitchen because it also has wainscotting and wood on part of the dining room ceiling.

Incredible video. 1. Made me realize it was possible to do this with great outcomes. 2. Made me realize I’m not capable of creating great outcomes myself! Time to hire someone.
You do such an amazing job and love your videos ( as well as seeing you on that other channel sometimes). Ive used a round over on the router and a strait edge clamp to go over door inside edges and take a hair off and it works best on nasty beat up doors ( but still needs a little sanding after. I’ve also made a profile mould using Bondo with a wax paper buffer to make a contoured sanding profile ..but don’t think your doors needed the heavyweight solution. The dollar store is a great place to pick up dowels, tongue depressors and wooden skewers for shims and fillers, and I often use golf tees for larger hinge repairs.
Well, now I know how the paint crew I hired messed up. They didn’t caulk my solid wood doors before painting! And yes, the paint has cracked around every panel. What are the right steps to take to fix that? Also, two questions. How long did you wait for the trim paint to cure before taping in order to paint the walls. And..when you checked for problems after priming the doors and did those small ‘blue taped’ repairs did you prime the repairs after sanding or just paint over them? Really great video! Thanks so much.
Christina you can aways paint the edge/ return of a door casing with the trim paint prior to the walls. As far as touch up on the trim most of the time they are small enough to just use your trim paint to coverage. Sounds like you didn't have good painters. Alot out there, but few know what they're doing.
Hey! Definitely a huge difference bef/after. Beautiful. Since you asked for tips: installing new door handles- always do it before starting painting or at least before last coat, take it back, paint, and for last installing these definitely. So if we accidentally pinch with chisel or anything else we can repair before last coat of paint. Everything else is amazing. Cheers. 👍 Subscribed!!!
This is awesome! I have a one bedroom 90s flat and have been meaning to tackle the nasty doors since I moved in 20 years ago 😅 this was so satisfying and fun to watch. Some are. Pretty much anything that is painted will withstand water. As long as it’s a exterior paint.

Ya caulking is a must. You can always caulk and just retouch the paint if it’s not too old. Hope that helps

Hey! Definitely a huge difference bef/after. Beautiful. Since you asked for tips: installing new door handles- always do it before starting painting or at least before last coat, take it back, paint, and for last installing these definitely.
So if we accidentally pinch with chisel or anything else we can repair before last coat of paint.
Everything else is amazing.

They come in handy if you have to spray doors.
This is awesome! I have a one bedroom 90s flat and have been meaning to tackle the nasty doors since I moved in 20 years ago 😅 this was so satisfying and fun to watch. No more nasty dated wooden doors in 2023! Nice touch replacing the hinges, I hadn’t even considered that. Your place looks amazing, so much bigger and full of light.

Looks great! Our current doors are original to our 80s home-- look exactly like your 'before' doors. I'm thinking whether we stay in this home or sell it as we ease into retirement... we'll definitely need to emulate your approach. Great timing ... thank you!
