  • I wanted a way to display my helmets in a sleek and minimal way so I made some invisible helmet display mounts. This took a lot of problem solving and a few prototypes, but I'm happy with the design! Come check out this build process!

I mean, I want to build one for myself...
    But I don't habe a Helmet.
    So, here is my plan.
    1. Build an awesome Helm.
    2. Remember you don't have a paint booth and watch videos again where paint booths were build.
    3. Build a Painting Booth.
    4. Paint the Helmet.
    5. Watch this video again, since at least 3 months have past at this point.
    6. Build the Floating Helmet Mount.
    7. ...remember that the house where you live, has horrible walls and won't let you put the Mount in place. And give up.
Yeah, I believe I will just enjoy your video.

Working them into the design so theyre invisible shouldnt be too hard. Or even going the opposite route and working a strip of metal into the design to attach to magnets mounted on the wall.

just gotta be careful to not damage the paint where the magnets contact, also gotta make sure that the magnet doesn't try to pull your helmet apart depending on how it's assembled.

I love how you're emphasizing the prototyping process in so many of your videos. It demystifies "making" a bit and shows how we often have to go through several iterations before we arrive at something that works well. It's one of the many things that makes your content stand out.

To make it work for your curved helmets as well you could change the foam padding on the wall bracket side to two pads, one at the top and one at the bottom of the bracket, with a gap between them. The sprung clamp will then apply pressure between those two pads and give you three points of contact preventing the helmet from tilting forward. If the helmet is too heavy for that to work then making the bracket taller, and the clamp pad higher up, will give better leverage over the three contact points.

I wanted ways to hang 9 vinyl records as art work.
Products on amazon didn't really do what I was looking for.
I ended up with a length of aluminum channel, 4lb command strips, and metallic spray paint. One step install and 9 displays cost me the equivalent of just 1 comparable amazon product!
They work perfectly to hold my records up on the wall and I can use two (one above, one below) to hold them securely.

This seems like something that could easily be 3D printed.
Would only need two parts, a screw and nut and a rubber band or spring.
And of course some mounting hardware that’s appropriate for your walls.
Will try to make something like this when I‘m back from work later today!

Hanging on the wall is one way, but it would still take up a lot of room spread out over a large area. It might be better to make a multi level hat rack with similar clamps or even just mannequin heads on each branch. You could even make a mould of your head and make foam heads. That could be a better condensed way of showing off your creations.

You know I've been wanting to build a statue for Halloween that is motion activated, basically an animatronic. When someone walks in front of it, the device would play a random audio clip from a list, and light up and possibly move its arms (just up and down) depending on which audio clip. Making the statue would be easy but I don't know how to build the electronics to play the audio, lights, and movements. Getting these 3 things would be nice as you can make any character.

Wonderful work, but i see a problem there.
From a certain weight, a helmet would take a deformation by the grabbing point. A better idea would be to insert something that holds the helmet by the interior top point. Like an alum/steel rod curved 90º and half sphere at the top, so the helmet would rest there with no problem, adjustable to each helmet and still pretty clean and invisible hanging from the wall.

If you can double up on your L brackets, then you can settle for a weaker metal like annealed aluminum or a stronger plastic that can be 3D printed. This is because your weight of the helmet would split it's weight in half to balance on the 2 brackets instead of 1.
