- WHERE DO I PUT MY PHONE IN MY CAMARO?!? Where do you put your phone? If you are like me, then you have a hard time finding a place to put your phone when driving. In my 6th gen Camaro SS 1LE there is no real usable space for my phone.
Most of us, it goes in the cup holder and then slide around when driving…or doing burnouts!
I have found an excellent solution and mounting point.
Now this product really only will apply to iPhone 12 or 13 using the newer wireless MagSafe charging technology….but the mounting area of the knee bolster (non-alcantara leather type) can still apply to other chargers (clamp style) that utilize the suction cup base.

I put a holder that suction cups to the windshield and rests on the dash just above the radio. Works perfect for my 2018.
I like the phone in my line of sight I’d rather have a cable temporarily pulled up on the rare chance that I need it.
Thanks for your video, I just got it today, for my 2017 Camaro Convertible. A word of caution with these grippy pads, had another brand on my dash for a year and when it finally gave loose I found it had marked up the dash surface, and cleaned it with many car dash cleaners and it I think left a sticky adhesive they use and it left a round mark on the plastic of my dash. Maybe the PH of the sticky adhesive did this, but my point is be carful what these sticky adhesives can do...

Same problem I have with my ‘22 2SS 1LE. The wireless charging pad is too small for my phone, so it’s useless. I went with one of those sticky silicone pads from Amazon and placed it on the dash, it works brilliantly and the color blends right in so it’s not an eyesore 👍
@Alexander John, I know…I wish the wireless charge pads were larger and better accessible. Yes, they are useless! Good to know about the pads! 😉👍🏻

Owner of 2nd Gen, a 3rd Gen. And now a 6th Gen. even with it's tech and connectivity, the story is still the same, my phone goes some where in the back set, rear deck, or the hatch area.. because once I get in my Camaros, I don't give 2 PHUCHs about my phone..
For my SS 1LE I bought a seat gap pocket that fits between the center console and the passenger seat. That’s where my phone and waller go. Cost about $15.

I put mine connected with apple car play and putting it in the passenger back pocket.

@John Robinson, sorry to hear that. Yeah, I guess 2021 was the first year of wireless CarPlay on the Camaro. Can still use it as a mount though.

I too have a 2017 and the same issue with Apple car play, I’ve been toying with the idea of getting one of those Wireless Car play adapters, just to have a cleaner set up vs just taking the cable and try to plug it in the phone each time.
I wear a phone holster and that is where mine is when I’m driving. My Camaro has hands free connection so the phone doesn’t need to be within reach when I’m driving.
Excellent video. Flowing and very clear. Just one question. How do you activate the car play on the radio if the cable is not connected to the phone. and connected only to the wireless charger. If the cable is not connected to the phone, Car Play does not work. Did you understand me?
@Aviayvazo1, I understand. Is your Camaro pre-2021? CarPlay became wireless in the 2021 models and after. If your model is before this then you would need to still connect with a wired connection unfortunately 🤷🏻♂️

Really good mount and wiring! Does that knee pad only come on a 2SS? Are there pads on the drivers side?

How does the adhesive mend to the knee pad? Any damage if you were to take it off? Where can I find the wire clamps?
@Mikey ZL1, I did not use the mounting pad which has adhesive. The mount suction cup works just fine for me and does no damage that I can see. The “wire clamps” that I used come with the Anker MagSafe mount but you might be able to find something similar online
New camaro has wireless android and apple car play. I wouldn’t leave my phone out of my pocket. If needs charging, you can use the pad.
@al, yes, you are correct and it is nice that the CarPlay is wireless but when it comes to charging the console pad is not consistent with connection. I feel like I am always fiddling with it to be in the sweet spot to show that it is charging. One slight bump and it stops. Thanks for the comment and perspective though.
No issues with the suction coming off the leather knee pad?
@Z H, nope! Not yet🤞🏻 With the SS 1LE, the knee pads are a smooth finished leather that doesn’t have any texture so it is a good spot for suction surprisingly. When I first got the car, I was considering “upgrading” to the GM jet black suede knee bolsters to match the alcantara on the seats, shift knob and steering wheel, But now with this mounting spot for my phone, I won’t be. **sidenote: it is still mounted to the knee pad in the same spot from the time I recorded the video footage about 3 weeks ago and is solid. 👍🏻

@@AverageHero I ordered my camaro with the suede knee bolsters, I wonder what kind of solution will work best for me I like the proclip base clip but I'd rather have the magnetic top to use the magsafe feature
@Oscar Salado, that’s a great question. If I had the suede knee pads i would mount the charger to the passenger side of the console with the included mounting plate. Originally that was where I was going to mount it but until I “discovered” that it would work on the knee pad. Let me know which one you go with. Have fun with your beast!!🚗🔥

@Tracy Shoup… I have the same struggle even with the smaller iPhone 12 Pro. Lately it has been a spot for my extra face mask 😷 😂. Great intention Chevrolet, poor execution. Maybe a spot to charge your AirPods with the wireless charge case😂
Does this work for apple carplay though? Or does it need to be plugged in to use apple carplay
@Carlos Ruiz, great question! Apple CarPlay does work wirelessly with newer Camaro models (2020 and newer, I believe) no matter how you charge your device.
Is that charger still holding on 11 months later? And do I need a special case for it to work on my iPhone 12.
@Chris S, yes it is! Still mounted in the same place. I will say that there is sometimes that the suction mount will lose suction from the knee pad I have it mounted to during the summer here because it gets so hot. But it comes with a mount “pad” for surfaces not completely flat. I still don’t regret having it and I use it most of the time. Hope this helps!

I'm looking to do the same thing to my Camaro. Did you use the mounting pad that came with it, or did you just stick the arm to knee pad without the 3m mounting pad. Also, has it held up well over time?
@Wingsgo1212, I did not use the mounting pad with it although I still have it. I still have it mounted since I posted the video but it eventually loses suction after about 3 - 4 weeks and I just reattach. Maybe with the mounting pad it wouldn't fall off. I just was trying to avoid any adhesive residue on my kneepad. With that being said, I really like it and use it daily. Definitely recommend it. 👍🏻👍🏻

I have a 17 1ss 1le and I leave my phone in my pocket. I rarely need to look at my phone when driving due to having to much fun with my car. Plus all those gaudy ugly phone holders are ridiculously stupid looking.
That wireless charge pad is worthless..I have a 12 pro max.

Way too big and bulky, and since you have to plug the phone in for A Auto you don't need wireless charging
