This is the best style of review video I have seen in months. Cuts to the chase, no waffle, just pointing out significant issues. May they all be like this! Excellent work sir, keep it up :) Bonus doggo points.
Awesome review! Love how you cover the important stuff (magnet power, charge speed, quality of the mount), then you actually test it and just tell it like it is! Love it! Great job!
I use the Apple MagSafe Charger mounted in a ProClipUSA MagSafe holder. They have custom mounts for almost every popular vehicle. It’s two parts, a base mount and the device holder. Best set up ever.
I just came here to say that I bought one of these last night. They make mounting brackets specific to certain models of cars. I have the Subaru Forrester version. I did not get the charging version, just the MagSafe mount. I need a wired connection to my car for Apple CarPlay to work. Not a big deal at all for all the benefits I get out of CarPlay.
Hey Aaron! As always, great reviews and insights on the variety of products available! Was waiting for this one. In addition to seeing what car mount charger is fastest, I would say the biggest concern for wireless charging in a car would have to be excessive heat. Naturally, car mounts allow more heat from the windshield due to the phone being close to the unshaded part of the dashboard. Would love to see a follow up comparison with the iOttie versus these 2 that I'm currently looking at: 1) Pitaka MagEZ Car Mount Pro w/ Cooling Fan 2) ESR HaloLock Wireless Car Charger with CryoBoost. ESR claims that with "CryoBoost" cooling the iPhone while in use/navigating, you would get a more efficient/faster charge over Apple's official MagSafe puck. P.S. the text in your "For those who need more info, see below!" section has a strikethough effect. 🙂
Great review man! There are two other options you should probably consider reviewing: 1> ESR HaloLock Dashboard Magnetic Wireless Charger 2> Rokform - Adjustable Magnetic Windshield Phone Mount (this one locks to the window and WILL NOT come off)
I got the iOttie Velox based on your last review of it and I've been super happy with it. The iPhone 14 is my first mag safe phone, so your channel has been really helpful in researching accessories. Thank you! That look on your face when one of the mounts fell and turned on your windshield wipers was hilarious. :)
I've been watching your videos recently to find a new mount system for my iPhone to use in my car and on my bike and I really appreciate the detail and entertainment value of your videos. Thank you so much!
Okay your video was awesome Thank you so much But I am loving your dog I think he was supervising to make sure you didn't forget anything Loved that tie
I just wanted to say I love your energy. I planned to just use PiP and half watch this for a decent product. Instead, I have watched it in the app doing nothing but watching the video straight up 😂
I've looked at a lot of products and reviews yadda yadda yadda and decided to go with ESR HaloLock Wireless Charger with Cryoboost.. ended up getting it through ESR Direct who had a deal going on and they use a ball and socket setup. I am not a fan of vent mount setups and had a previous ball and socket cd mount which I just swapped in its place. I had an existing Huawei cigarette lighter adapter which I used and is capable of 20W so just using the Huawei supercharge USB-C cable plugged into the ESR and bob's your uncle :) When the iPhone is mounted, it has a solid magnetic grip and the cryboost kicks in keeping everything cool - this things blows so much air you can hear and feel it.
I have a fastest charging method. Just use any old MagSafe car mount that just holds the phone really well. Then all you do is use a cable into the charging port. Checkmate.
The problem with magsafe car mounts is they are not carplay compatible on most vehicles! Regardless I will need to plug the lightning cable into my phone in order to have carplay work. Therefore it makes more sense just to have a simple non-charging mount.
Very good point. It’s also important to mention that while wireless CarPlay adapters are available, the best ones still take 30 seconds to boot up. At that point you’re on the road and driving.
Thanks for the video! I decided on the Anker for the form factor, and the clean setup like you mentioned. I like mounting to the dash, so mounting to vent or windshield is not an issue for me. Your video sold me on the Anker, but his video was more in depth specifically only to the Anker. I tried using your purchase link, but it didn't work for me. So I used his. But you got a subscriber out of me. Thanks!
I purchased that Anker charger. I do love how the cable plugs in to the base, and then runs internally up the arm to the surface the phone mounts to. I use my mount in a semi truck, that friction joint, has a bit of "spring" to it, which will cushion the securement between the phone and mount, however, as it does bounce, with bigger bumps, not enough to knock the phone off the mount, but keep in mind the weight of your phone, because that will eventually cause the arm to bottom out on the base of the mount, and when that happens, the "cushion/spring" effect is gone, and a decent bump at that point will cause the phone to come off. The build quality, accessories, and charging speed in my opinion are all good, I just wish the magnets could be stronger, similar to older style full metal plate style magnetic holders
Hi Aaron. Great review as always! Two urgent questions since I am shopping right now: 1. Would a high-wattage PD car adapter not perform as well or better than the Apple 20W requiring an outlet or inverter? 2. What about the ESR Cryoboost car charger, which (even though it is 7.5W) purports faster-than-MagSafe charging speeds due to it's built-in cooling fan? What are the real world speeds? Note: this is most beneficial in winter, when air vents are blowing heat. Of course, you would close that vent, but it would still leak some heat, so a fan should be helpful. In summer, AC blowing through an open vent will be way superior to the fan.
Bulletpoint mounts, at least for trucks. I have it on my 2023 F350, along with 7 inch backup cam for my 5th wheel, my wifes iphone, and a tpms monitor as well. Rock solid, nothing moves or shakes or vibrates at all.
The Casetify cases are really good. I won’t get anything other than the Bounce for the Ultrabounce cases anymore. They look great and they do exactly what they say.
That last setup is great. I wish I had an outlet in my vehicle. Also, since my man doesn’t have an affiliate link, there’s a deal on Verizon’s website for the Apple MagSafe charger ($30 with free shipping)
I’m surprised you used that version of the ESR halolock and not the one with cryoboost. Silly marketing but it works really well to keep the phone cool. I also find I don’t want car chargers to be too fast because then I’m having to unplug it when it gets to 100.
The previous owner of my car installed an OHLPRO magsafe charger mounted to a ProclipUSA bracket and the magnet is awesome but if I have the screen on, it cannot actually charge the phone... It simply maintains it at whatever battery level it's on when I attach the phone. In most situations, this is perfectly fine but if I actually need fast charging, just plugging the cable into the phone using an Aukey PD 12v socket adapter is unbeatable. According to my USB volt meter, it's delivering a solid 30 watts from the Type C port on the charger and right around 20 to my ipad pro and iphone 15 pro.
I would have to say that number two is the winner and the reason being is that if you have your heat on it won’t overheat your phone being so it isn’t in front of the vent which happens to me. So I might be getting that Anker charger.
I also use the same converter to charge my iPhone with the Apple charger and cable. I just don’t have the MagSafe charger and mount. Converter works really well
There is also one more option for 15w iphone charging which I currently use. And that is Apple Magsafe Battery Pack. The stack looks like that: ESR magsafe holder (non charging version) -> Battery Pack with magsafe ring -> IPhone. Battery pack is connected to 100w Baseus car charger, which guarantees 20w goes into it. Works like a charm. IPhone should have good enough magnet in a case to hold well on a battery pack.
Your videos have been a lifesaver in the hunt for my IPhone 14 pro accessories! Definitely subscribing! If I could ask about this video, I’d like to purchase one BUT I wanted to ask How does the Iottie do with overall phone grip when using your Mous Limitless 5.0 case? Is the hold weaker?
Just yesterday got PopSockets PopGrip for Mag Safe along with their PopMount (adhesive mount) for my dashboard. The PopSocket Mag Safe PopGrip is so strong that I have to use a fair amount of force to remove it from the back of my phone and the PopMount holds the phone securely with the PopGrip. I personally don’t mind the adhesive mount as it it small and black and just kind of blends in. I can just use a lightening adapter to plug in and charge while driving which is not a big deal for me. Total cost was about $38 and it feels very secure. 👍
I have a ProClip which I'd love to see you cover in your future videos - I swear by it. They make a part specific to each car, and a part specific to each phone (or in my case, a part that holds an Apple MagSafe charger), and you just screw them together
Incredible review. You should get a job at consumer reports. I love that after reviewing all of the devices you mentioned how to get the fastest speeds using Apple’s own MagSafe charger with a bunch of different accessories. I checked in your description for links to purchase the Apple MagSafe charger with the Spigen Magfit car mount and the other accessories that you listed but there were no links. Perhaps you should add links for those products as well. Trying to support your channel.
Surprised not to see the esr cryoboost or the pitaka. Both of them have cooling fans. And you mention chargers running hot so maybe those should have been tested. Or did you test them and keep them out of the top 10? I have to believe it’s the former since you have the old model of the esr charger. I also know you buy your own stuff so that could also factor into why. Also the esr super benefits might be something to consider if you see value in it. I just bought the esr cryoboost but I haven’t had a long enough drive to test it. But the idea sold me since I’ve seen how hot my phone has been with other chargers.
The Vent mounts are known to break vents. I've also had people report the mount breaking the radio when the vent mount breaks off and falls. I recommend Rennline and Coarse motorsports for a much better mount solution and a better looking design.
ESR HaloLock Dashboard Magnetic Wireless Charger, Compatible with MagSafe Car Charger, Windshield Car Mount is a better ESR mount that can attach to the windscreen or dashboard.
My favorite car charger and I’ve bought many of them is pitaka’s MagSafe car charger. Hands down the best one so far. For someone who drives for a living I would recommend this one. I did just purchase Quadlocks new mag case and mag wireless car charger we will see if that replaces my pitaka.
Since the 14 will be my first experience with magsafe… my gladiator only has wired carplay so what happens if I get one of these and have the phone mounted and plugged in?
My concern about vent mounts is what happens when you have to run your heater or A/C? Isn't it bad for the heat to hit the mount and your phone? Or the fact that it blocks your cool air in the summer? Thoughts?
Thanks for the review. Although I am surprised in the list there were no car mounts with active cooling (fan + thermoelectric cooling element). Maybe an idea for the next round?
I use a Pixel 6 with a very nice matte MagSafe ring attached on the back of my case. I tried an ESR magsafe charging mount with cyrocool first but both of the ones I bought had issues. I settled with a random Amazon brand and it worked surprisingly well, especially considering the price. 15 Watt charging and it came with a vent and dash style mount with an optional arm. From what I found sometimes the no name brands are actually worth it and occasionally beat the name brands in price/performance.
@@carson9903 I have the Everyday Case by Peak Design, it still works with my QI wireless charging stands. My current problem is finding enough power to keep my phone topped off while I do Gig work like Uber and DoorDash. These apps drain my battery faster than it can charge. Thinking I may need to go the DC/AC converter and use a wall wart to get the power I need, but what magsafe wireless charging mount can output the power to keep my Pixel 7 Pro topped off? Getting in and out of the car a lot has me cringing at all the plugging and unplugging I'm doing! Don't want to ruin my USB C port from excessive cord usage.
check out the coast motorsports charger. its expensive as hell, but since they're car specific.. they're nice, and out of the way. Strongest magsafe connection I've found so far.. I cant get my phone to drop off on accident. That said, there is almost no adjustablility to it.. It stays out of the way of my double din radio, and leave my vents unobstructed.
Anker one doesn't work in my truck. I guess it's not the right material to stick to. But I got a Course motorsports mount. It mounts behind your front console in most cases. The most sturdy thing possible and the magsafe magnet is great. Only issue is you will have limited (in most cases 2) options to put it either on the driver side or the passenger side.
Well thank you. I have been using dual sim on my S22U for 8 months and it has been less than pleasant. I ordered an iPhone 14 Pro Max for a second device and want to make sure it doesn't fall while driving. Since charge speeds aren't the most important thing for me, as it will be a secondary device and not my primary, I am going with the iOttie. I just hope the cable is long enough to mount it to the vent on the left of my steering wheel instead of the right. If you read this, I have a suggestion... Review magsafe adapters for other devices. It would be cool to know I'm getting the best one of those for my S22U, which I would like to do since the mount I have for that phone is less than ideal.
Great review but none were for me. I had to frankenstein my articulated setup to mount my phone the way I wanted. With wireless slow/not fast charge (for longevity).
I just switched to the joyroom charger because I use a super slim case which reduces the MagSafe attraction and it has these automatic arms that grip on the side
I know this video is a year old and thats a challenge in a world of ever changing tech... still a very good video.... my only feedback is not everyone needs super fast charging in the car... when driving I just need a boost to maintain battery charge: on long trips slower charging is fine. My preference would be a system that doesnt overheat the phone and has very good holding capability
Oi! Stick a nitize steelie phone socket with the beefier magnet option to the back of your MagSafe charger. Sticks anywhere, smooth adjustment, fast charging 👌

I love your dog he looks really interested in what your saying
Where’s the lady assistant of you? Kinda miss her 😂
That dog...!!! Love your content, but I'de come back to watch the dog's expressions and effort not to fall over asleep in your video. Hilarious!
Thank you mate! Was A LOT USEFULL
Very informative video. Cleared all my doubts.
Wow epic Canadian reviewer!
There is new category to review
laptop iphone MagSafe mount
WE HAVE THE SAME CAR THIS IS PERFECT !!!!!!!! LETS GOOOOOO (Mazda 3 older gen)
MagBak has been the best all around car charging system for me
Oi!
Stick a nitize steelie phone socket with the beefier magnet option to the back of your MagSafe charger. Sticks anywhere, smooth adjustment, fast charging 👌
I liked the video because it's well made and was fun to watch! I subscribed when I heard "it was hard to get in Canada"!
