Peaks Epic 2024. Trailing with the upgraded FTX Trooper / RGT Intruder

- After the initial trail run and rock tests I couldn't help myself but order the brass for the Intruder / Trooper.
It was performing OK but was definitely on the verge of being slightly top-heavy and, as I wanted to add a few scale extras, this certainly wasn't going to help.
The next group meet that was on the cards was the Peaks Epic, which is a one way, uphill grind over the course of five to six hours. I thought about what I could take and figured that it would be the perfect opportunity to give the Intruder / Trooper a proper run for its money.
I spent a day getting things ready, fitting the brass, making limb-risers and netting and fitting the winch. I then wondered (again) why I'd spent hours fiddling with elastic and cotton! An early night was stolen again and another 5am start was in store to get to the meeting point on time. I got there early!
To be honest, as we set off on the drive I was worried whether I'd made the right choice in taking this truck. Would I be happy later on? We would find out. Was the trail good? Hell yeah!

I’m really tempted to buy the Intruder myself, for the body alone. I have the Rescuer, and it’s my favourite looker, as well as its equal to and even better to my TRX-4 in performance.
The Intruder is cool but I wish they'd cut the wheel arches smaller and put smaller tyres on. That way people can always go bigger but we can't go more scale-looking, sadly.
@@rcpie Exactly! I really wish most manufacturer would do so.. struggling with the “right” size on the Rescuer.. 100-110mm looks more scale, and full flex and steering without rubbing 👌 But at 100mm arches are a tad too wide. Thinking of adding some modified arches.

Hi. I really like the colour you've used for your Intruders interior. Could you tell me what paint you used and where you bought it please. I'm also in the UK but I'm struggling to find that colour in a lexan paint at the usual places here. Many thanks from Derek 🙂
Hi Derek. It's just a couple of Tamiya XF acrylics. Can't remember the colours.. might have been Buff for the 'leather'.
I don't think it needs to be polycarbonate paint as it's not going to flex and it's going on top of a pre-painted surface.

Hi I have an MN999 and I'm going to repaint it.
I saw your video about painting and re assembly can you remember what paint you used and the colours you used. I like the look of the green and sand together. Also, the wheel arches screws Where can i get some from? i dont know the sizes.

Thanks for the nice words. The paints are London Colours bought from VIP Graffiti Paint. I was recommended them by an artist, who proffered "They're made to stick to dirty trains, so they'll stick to anything"
The colours are Bow Road and Bush Hill Park.

hello I just bought a trooper but when I put the battery in for 8 hours and then I put it in the trooper it only works for 5 minutes what do you think is wrong it is the original battery still
Hi Hotwheels, I can't remember what the included charger is like but I suspect it's a USB type like you get with a lot of RTR cars. They usually have a little LED which glows red when charging and (sometimes) green when charged. If there was no light, it might not have been working. Make sure that your USB socket has a high enough rating for the charger. 5 mins run time sounds like it didn't charge at all, just the storage charge that it would have shipped with.
I'd recommend getting a separate charger anyway. You'll get faster charges and better battery care.

@@rcpie I wanted this chassi to put the Trail Finder 2 body becasue its 284mm wheelbase and now you recommned FMS! 😀 Ohh man i really dont know what to do! Both have great bodies already but i really want to make a Toyota Trail Finder 2 i dont like the shocks of the RCWD cars.
@ricardopires4713 I think it would be too big for a trailfinder 2. The wheelbase might be right but I suspect the track would be too wide.
