- How to Restore Your RV Finish and Remove Oxidation using Meguiars One Step.
The fiberglass finish only on the front cap of my travel trailer is dull and chalky looking. The white chalky appearance is the result of oxidation of the coating. I found a way to restore the glossy finish.
This video is how and the product I used to polish and restore the shine to the front cap of the RV.

use a good ceramic spray wax every 6 months. it will stay as new.
I took 30 years of oxidation off my rv with it, amazing product!
Dennis, that cootteny looking pad is a lamb's wool pad. It is great on removing oxidation from fiberglass. I used it on my boat. Great job on the camper. Now come do mine.
Wow looks awesome
Nice I need to do this to my fifth wheel cap! It's oxidized bad, I hope is shines out
Brings the LUSTER back to the paint
Definitely a huge difference but for sure a stronger polisher is needed. I highly recommend the Makita P05000C The only one random orbital and forced rotation action with switch to choose. Obviously random orbital close to the graphics.
Thank you for great video. I just did mine 5th wheel trailer yesterday, and it is definitely the best that I have used. No doubt it was difficult but definitely worth it. My wife is extremely pleased. Highly recommend this product
Be sure to apply the Mequiars wax after to protect your work. See my other video on that.
I think you get better outcome with D.A. Buffer if you don’t want use rotory buffer
Maybe. I was happy with the outcome.
Sidenote....like your Eternabond tape on the roof. I did mine too.
Nice work! Probably would’ve saved a bit of time busting out a wet sand first for the really chalky stuff, but whatever works!
Great video, thank you!
Decent demo but a few things to note:
Don't use a DA (random orbital). Lots more time spent
Use a green pad (and notttt sooo muchhh compound)
Since this is essentially a gel coat, you can then finish up with a blue pad
Mine was pretty oxidized. Required more compound than most might need. My orbital worked great.
Maguires has great stuff. Thanks for the tip.
Thanks for the tip!!!
Thanks you help me
Nice! Now get out there and put a coat of wax on it. Great job and it’s a lot of work.
Take a look at my upcoming video linked at the end. I cover putting on the wax.
Have fun doing it again in about 2 months lol
Hi. Still looks great. You need to top coat it with ceramic wax which is in a follow-up video. Mine is holding up. THanks for your comment and view.
why does it look like the actual paint is coming off when ever i wet my trailer? the rag looks like im wiping off milk. My trailer is all painted aluminum
It sounds like your paint is too far gone. Oxidation has taken over completely.
@@texascamper thanks, that isn’t what I wanted to hear, but I believe you’re right.
Thank you for your information! Helps very much!
Great video 🎉 , how long has it lasted looking that great? Or can you do an update video
Good for a year now. Probably will need a fresh after about 24 months. My camper is stored inside so it may last longer than the average.
@@texascamper oh ok great I’m going to polish mine with the same and make a video also thanks 🙏🏻 again
Nice video, but for the love of larry please get a more appropriate ladder. Your life is worth more than a shiny box.
My aluminum A-frame ladder is safe. But thanks for the concern. Have a great day.
@@texascamper At 5:07 in your video you are NOT using your ladder safely. My wife had a co worker (age 51) die from a fall using their ladder exactly as you did there. So, yes, the ladder is safe, but how you were using it, not so much. Peace out.
You are correct. That was a bit risky. Thanks for the warning.
Do u have to wax after?
This would be better with a before and after area
You can see the before and after area in the video. When the video starts, the area in the top right section of your screen has not been restored yet. Whereas the left side of the camper has been. This entire video has before and after views.
A lot of their compounds have been around for ever but they just work
This one worked surprisingly well for me.
How long does this keep the rig looking good?
Do you have to do it every year or so?
Well, not sure yet. But I can tell you be sure you apply the wax after. That is really what makes the shine last. See my other video located here>> ruclips.net/video/P1g1RLZQKRQ/видео.html🙂
Where did you buy all your pads?
AutoZone
I hope you went back with some sort of protection to help preserve all your labor
Yes, One Step should certainly be followed up with a wax or sealant to maintain that new finish. The waxing does require some additional buffing by the one step does most of the work.
@@texascamper no, all the buffing work, your finish, should be done by the compound. When you wash the oils off from the compounds to allow your "wax" to bond, you can see the mirror-like finish, before waxing. If you want to do it right and make it last.
Planning to bring back a 10 year neglected RV here soon with the same product. Thanks for taking the time to make a video, and share your result.
Is that fiber glass??
Yes, Fiberglass composite.
Do you have to worry about the decals
Just don't stay on them long. The One Step did not harm my decals at all.
@@texascamper if you can stay off decals or use tape because the oils in the compound will shorten their life span
And never use wax on the decals and that cap is looking real nice
Can you put a ceramic coat over that?
Yes, there is a link to the end of this video where I explain to do a wax coat.
