  • In this episode, we've got no firm plans for our day in Sint Maarten (as the Dutch spelling goes), so let's wander and explore! Time to hope a water taxi, explore Front Street, visit That Yoda Guy museum, and hit the beach, before grabbing a Guavaberry drink, a DI charm, and heading back to the ship for a rocky evening!! :D
    We're off on our first one-way cruise adventure aboard the Carnival Breeze for its repositioning from Galveston, Texas to Port Canaveral, Florida! We sailed from September 16-30, 2018 on a 14-Day Southern Caribbean itinerary with stops in Grand Cayman, Aruba, Curacao, Grenada, Barbados, Dominica, and Sint Maarten. This was a Carnival Journeys cruise, with all sorts of extra throwback fun to be had...

    Top 5 reasons why you guys are my favourite RUclips channel!
    1) You both are so quirky sweet.
    2) You are never opinionated or critical of others.
    3)You don't make us wait for your videos. There is usually one every day when you have recently cruised.
    4)You don't have a long intro!
    5) No commercials, you truly do it for the love.....not money!
    Keep doing what you are doing!

      Well, thank you so much! Dee teared up a little when I read this to her, and we appreciate you enjoying following along with our silliness. We always try to stay positive on vacation, as well as in everyday life. We love the one-per-day because we're just as excited to share as folks are to watch. Our intro has always been exactly 3 1/2 seconds long, with the logo and the boom sound, and we intend to keep it that way, ha ha... And we do have the single ads at the beginning of the videos sometimes, but I've never been a fan of what they call "midroll" ads, right in the middle of the video. It would mean more money, but I have them disabled on purpose because they annoy me, ha ha... Again, thank you for your sweet comment!! :D

      @@parodeejayI would be happy to have extra ads. I can't contribute financially - but I can watch ads to help contribute. I wouldn't mind if you accepted sponsors either. I'd really enjoy a more comprehensive website. Ads on there would provide you more income as well.

    You were post hurricane, you could have seen stuff that had been blown in....maybe?? One time we were visiting St. Maarten on a cruise stop.. Walking back up the pier to the ship someone's cap blew off and a random guest dove in and retrieved it. The guy dove off the pier!!! That is the biggest no-no of all time!!

    • @parodeejay

      It was pretty awesome, and I think I'll put together a longer feature just on the museum to fill in some gaps while we're out at sea again. We spent a good half hour in there, and I think I got about 18 minutes of footage, ha ha... chopped it down to about 1 1/2 minutes for the sake of this video, thinking of the general audience who might not be all into it, haaah... :D

    The most amazing snorkeling I have done was in Hawaii. The huge sea turtles just lay up on the beach and the fish are so large and tropical. Finally gave up when I went toward the rocks and a huge eel hissed in my face "im done"...I never see any amazing sea sea creatures on these island beaches. We did see 2 shark while we were in the water in Bahamas that were about 8 feet from us.. I just jumped on my raft and said every man for himself. They swam away...LOL Table cloths..the things you say kill me...

    • @parodeejay
      @parodeejay  5 лет назад +1

      Ooooh, Hawaii! That's on our eventual list for sure. That's awesome! I've heard that the eels can be territorial, so that's a little frightening, yow!! Yeah, not quite sure why there are so many tablecloth stores, ha ha... but I tend to notice the strangest things, and of course I have to point them out!! :P

      We enjoy the little DI charm program, though they're cheap little things, hah. There's normally a coupon on the ship for a free starter bracelet, then you pay $5 at your first port for your first charm (though sometimes they don't even make you pay), and after that all the charms are free, just flash your bracelet. It's a fun little hobby!

    • @parodeejay
      @parodeejay  5 лет назад +1

      I know there was a tropical storm moving across Barbados two days after we left it, which would have been St Maarten day, so that's prooobably the case. We've got those two cruises out of NOLA next September, so we're keeping our fingers crossed too... but the weather overall on this past cruise was almost perfect. We lucked out sooooo much, for it being a September cruise!!

    So I assume the snorkel mask is Dee approved? What brand is it? What do you do with your stuff on the beach if you are both in the water? Sorry if you have answered these already. Looks like so much fun. So jealous

    • @parodeejay
      @parodeejay  5 лет назад

      Thankee! The mask was a brand we'd never heard of called Vangogo, which we only bought because a friend sent us a promo code for it, ha ha... they've got them around Amazon and eBay and places if you search "vangogo full face". It did surprisingly well!! For beach safety, we bought little travel combo locks that you can lock your backpack zippers together and lock your bag to your beach chair, and things like that. Just small deterrents. We also have waterproof pouches for around the neck to keep cash and ID cards, plus some waterproof bags for larger items that we can float out with us in the water, but we don't use those big bags as often. I know a lot of people recommend either the KYSS bags or the Safego bag, and those look interesting but we haven't tried them yet!

    Visiting St. Marrten next summer....what would you think is the best way to get to Maho beach? Taxi or bus? And do you have to take a water taxi from the ship or is it too far to walk?

    • @parodeejay
      @parodeejay  5 лет назад

      Awesome! If you're just interested in Maho Beach, I would say catch a taxi from the main port area. That definitely doesn't require a water taxi, you just follow the signs for the normal taxi area right there inside the port, and the port folks will get you set up. The water taxi is just a convenient way to get from the pier, away from the port, over to the freebie beach & shopping area, but it's not too far of a walk if you choose to check that out as well, either before or after your visit to Maho.

  • @kevinmurphy7543

    I want to go to Hard Rock and the Yoda place when I go in November. Looks like I could just take the water taxi over and there would not be much of a walk. Would that be accurate?

    • @parodeejay
      @parodeejay  5 лет назад

      Yes indeed! Ironically, the method we accidentally did was the least amount walking... water taxi to Bobby's Marina, walk down Front Street to That Yoda Guy, continue down Front Street (or the boardwalk) to the center pier where Hard Rock is, then water taxi straight back to the ship. I guess it's not really that far of a walk one-way, so if you wanted to save a couple of bucks, you could walk straight to That Yoda Guy, then follow the rest of the plan and only pay $5 for the one-way water taxi, hah. But $7 for the round trip wasn't bad. Woohoo!!

    • @parodeejay

      We didn't see one when we were there, but we didn't wander too much of the beach. I know there was a McDonald's over on Front Street close to the center of the beach, but they were damaged in the hurricane. I saw an article stating that they planned to reopen late last year, but I don't know if they did.

    • @parodeejay

      I think everything we ended up seeing was trash or cloth in the water. We really only confirmed whatever that white thing was in the water that was trash, and then that dark thing that looks like a swimsuit coverup maybe. I don't think there were jellyfish out there, hah. This was the beach that you can see from the ship, but Maho Beach is in St Maarten on a different part of the island, yes.
