I'm reminded of the scene in "Ray", when a young Ray Charles begins learning piano by simply starting with three notes (the same three starting notes given here, in fact). It's great to see truth present itself in many venues. Thanks, once again, Adam for another great lesson, reminding us to find strength in simplicity and milk even the simplest concept for all we can.
There goes another great lesson - Just perfect for grabbing a harp, starting to mimic and building technique. Thanks for remembering that for beginners like me, what may seem simple to you, is in fact a masterclass!
Adam ,That riff just blows me away! It is absolutely brilliant. Fortunately I am good enough to play it fairly near to your standard . I practice every day . Bring it on man😎
Great video Adam!. Your lessons are very clear and extremely informative. I love the bending videos and exercises offered at modern blues harmonica. I recommend them to anyone looking for good and clear instruction. Priceless. I own tons of books, videos, etc and by far yours are the best!
This lesson was hard to do for me like 3 or 4, 5 months ago. Now I achieve it easy:) I'm glad that so, I have progressed. Thanks Adam for lessons you're a great man. :)
adam, your teaching, playing, insight, honesty, and teacher's heart have helped me immeasurably in unraveling the mystery of the "ten puka." this video of laying down the groove riff and then mutating it has refreshed my steps in this trek. also thanks for turning me on to a great tool, the "Amazing Slow Downer," to learn from the Jedi Harp Masters. Just started using trial version (on Butterfield) and will buy full version soon. It can go note for note super slow and has pitch adjuster. aloha
Thanks, Adam, your posts keep me going! I agree with simplicity when it comes to the harp. As I listen to Sonny Boy W. and Slim Harpo their licks are simple and well placed. Got to feel it to make it real.
Great lesson Adam! Thanks for making it and putting it up for us. Really cool tune. I love the lessons where you teach stuff like this; just one harp, no backing music, solo harp... it's great! Please make more.
With all do respect you should have a disclaimer that says "do not try this at home". ( because you have no idea how much I have put in to sounding this good)
Wow, i love how you play harmonica, and i love how you teach harmonica, im learning a lot with you. How do you know what note will fit in the improvisation? maybe I wanna add a 4 blow and then i see that it dont sound like i expected..
lately iv'e had broncitis, so I done a little homework extra credit!LOLthe african rythm you mentioned I"M finding the blues really started that way!ecking a living before and after the civil war workers used these songs to endure there hardships.I know that I cant compare to that though i;ve had my share i really feel related in a way now!digging up my own struggle.these im sure you are already are aware of.thanks for the journey!
yeah playing harp in the car is very efficient...you can see everything...it is a lot safer than using a phone....and when you hit a stop light..then you can start using the hand wah...lol....if it weren't for car practice I don't know how much practice I would get....
Just so you know, we harmonica students do get a certain percentage of what you teach. Like 2 % -- JUST KIDDING! You are the best, and this was a great lesson!
man.. thank you for all the videos.. you help me a lot.. i want your opinion about lee oskar harmonicas.. i really like marine band and also lee oskar.. but they are so different.. i am so confused about what harmonica will be my next key..
@MrSireta hi, i was wondering if you could help, as you"ve achieved this lesson! Adam doesn"t explain the notes he plays for the rythym. 2 draw 2 bend, then 3 half bend, but then he plays 2 other notes, is it 3 draw 2 draw? I know its a 5 note beat, but cannot quite work it out! Can you explain, if possible!
hey adam i am a pretty good harmonica player i am trying to become somthing with it i have been playing for 5 years you can youtube juan huertas harmonica and you can check me out. anyway i need to find a place where there are harmonica players so i can learn more i live near orlando a bit north. i kinda need the face to face speacialy with really good players
Neither. I first did a lesson in my car back in early 2007, when I had a baby and my wife wouldn't let me play and teach to the camera in the house when he was napping. So I went out one day and tried it in the car. I enjoyed it. It reminded me of days back in the East Village outside a blues club late at night when my buddies and I used to hang out, trade licks, and tell stories. So I kept that venue in the mix.
Welcome back good Doctor!!
Great lesson Adam, with many important applications as well as being a good excercise to work on the two and three hole bends.

Repetition with variation = gold :-) Love it, great job.
Your a awesome teacher! !
by the way you have made a huge diffrence in my style of playing no funds but your first on my list
Fantastic...adam, that was a great lesson!!
'repetitions with variations' ....
With all do respect you should have a disclaimer that says "do not try this at home". ( because you have no idea how much I have put in to sounding this good)

hi Adam any more in depth tabs for this riff, got the first 3 tabs as you explained in the video thanks
My favorite part about this is that I practice mostly in my car too. Even while driving, people look at me strange at stop lights lol.
Just smile and shrug, and watch the anal-retentive individuals go berserk...XD
I play to and from work....or anywhere else I go in the car.

@kobac: Take a look at the FAQs page on my website, Modern Blues Harmonica.
Just so you know, we harmonica students do get a certain percentage of what you teach. Like 2 % -- JUST KIDDING! You are the best, and this was a great lesson!
Very good...
A(da)mazing!
ive been wondering that for so long
Hahaha, welcome back...yet another great lesson :-)
He's Got his Own Blues ThinG !!!!! Edward James
great!
thats awsome, i need a Harp!!
Adam are you bending the 4 draw in between those warbles at 5:29 in this vid?
A UK tour would go down well I could help arrange that.
Adam,
if I've asked you what is the harmonica that bends easily and is for beginners, which one would you recommend?
@LRSe7eN: Yes!
man.. thank you for all the videos.. you help me a lot.. i want your opinion about lee oskar harmonicas.. i really like marine band and also lee oskar.. but they are so different.. i am so confused about what harmonica will be my next key..
We used to call that the handjive beat. Back when I was playing drums.
what is the song that is played at the start of this video called?
you make sense to me
Talking of keeping the tempo - I just downloaded a free metronome app - neat.
May sound stupid but can someone explain or tell me what holes he's using.
Lewis Lee his mouth.
he does say at the begining, 2 hole draw, 2 hole draw full bent then 3draw bent and so on its says in the vid
Make more videos!

2 draw 2 bend--release to 2 draw then it sounds(watch him slide the harp) like a 1 draw to 3 draw blues bend then back to 2 draw.
Now I love stone soup!
If playing like this comes from being homeless I am finding a spot under the bridge.
Another musician living in his car.😁 Jk. Great instruction. Keep 'em comin'!
Stone soup. Bloody good band name.
I think you have something there buddy...
what notes
He sounds like Bill Nye to me
The last two notes were like YEAP BUDDY
"Repetition with variation". I see what you did there.
ah ı cant
I only have one arm, how would you recommend holding the harp to get the right sound?
Josh Tripp find another one armed friend.
Stone soup blues!
hey adam i am a pretty good harmonica player i am trying to become somthing with it i have been playing for 5 years you can youtube juan huertas harmonica and you can check me out. anyway i need to find a place where there are harmonica players so i can learn more i live near orlando a bit north. i kinda need the face to face speacialy with really good players
Hi man. Tell me one thing: Why your lessons are in the car? Hehehe....I bellieve you wife do not like harmonicas......I know that.
Do you play in your car for the acoustics or are you homeless?
Neither. I first did a lesson in my car back in early 2007, when I had a baby and my wife wouldn't let me play and teach to the camera in the house when he was napping.
