    I'm glad that you like that element of my approach. You're quite right: that's a deliberate element of what I do--that teasing, that incompleteness. I'm trying to push you to get intrigued what what still isn't known, still isn't doable. We care more about the stuff that we have to work hard to get. Then we feel as though we've earned it. And we own the knowledge that we've accrued.

    I've been playing for 30 years. Adam's willingness to share his talent speaks highly of him. I've purchased some of his instructional stuff and my only wish is that it would have been available three decades ago. His efforts to break down Whammer Jammer are, like his other stuff, admirable. Thanks Adam!

    Awesome lick Adam! I've been playing it over and over. Working on getting down so that when I am asked to sit in on a blues number it will flow. I really like your teaching videos. I'm an Old Dog trying to learn some new tricks. I'm 59 and I still like learning and improving what I can do. Thanks for sharing what you know. Rick

    Seriously, thanks for all of these. I've never played an instrument and have recently chosen the blues harp as a tool of expression. These videos keep me going when I lose motivation to practice.

    All of the ghost chords at the end that you thought you couldn't explain seem to just be fake tongue-slaps. As a puckerer, I've been really dedicating the last couple months to replicating those percussive tongue-slaps on the upbeat to get the bluesy swing that this lesson is really all about. This video is one of your best, Adam; cool lick and deep thought, the Gussow trademark. : )

    I found this lesson so helpful,this is just the kind of stuff I need to progress to the next lesson!- it was also great how you showed how to work it into the 12 bar blues! Any other classes like this would be greatly appreciated-thank you Adam.

    part1: 4 bend, 4draw, 5 draw, 4bend, 3 draw, 2 draw
    part 2: [123] draw, [123] draw, 3bend, [234] blow, [234] blow, 2draw

      there is a mistake in part2:
      it should be: (123) draw, (123) draw, 3 blow (no bend!), [345] blow, [345] blow, 2 draw

    the hard part is making that initial triplet sound like one smooth sound instead of three choppy notes. thanks gussow.

    Love this lick gonna try it on my E Blues Harp. The 4 bends not so hard, its his smooth slide release and blow that I love, he's very clean. I'm gonna start studying him. I used to play in the streets of Fredericksburg, VA. when I was unemployed. I've been playing blues harp since I was 12, 46 years now...

    Great lesson Adam, as always. What I like about your teaching method is that you let some of 'the mistery' at the end, which makes it more interesting, and of course more didactic, because when i get the part of the lick you have taught I push myself forward to get the second part applying the theory and the techniques I've learnt in some of your other videos. I think that is what makes me improve.
    Thanks a lot for your lessons man, you have a friend in Spain.

  • @Hotaru721
    @Hotaru721 11 лет назад

    Exactly !! It's in searching the path than you find and understand the play. If you need to slow down the riff, take Transcribe, but tab are false friends !! You must be able to hear and play, else you would just play music like a computer without really understanding what you're doing ... Thanks for the vid Adam, brilliant as always !!

    You may be right. It may be that in trying to replicate the playing of Nat Riddles through close focus and study but WITHOUT tongue blocking on holes 123, I created a new fake tongue-slap style. Of course I'm using my tongue in contact with the roof of my mouth quite vigorously, but not ON the harp comb--at least in this particular pattern.

    @crookedstixz Try to listen more closely to what he's playing. Feel it. Connect it to your harp, and when you have the sound internalized, you will find you can play it. Listen, listen, listen. Then play. Tabs are not necessary.

    A-freak'n-MAZING!! Barrett who?

  • @Modernbluesharmonica
    @Modernbluesharmonica  16 лет назад

    Since I would have a very hard time playing this particular set of riffs while tongue blocking, I should really respond, "Email Dennis Gruenling and Joe Filisko and ask them," since they t.b. everything. I rarely t.b. fast note sequences involving bends. Why would I? Puckering makes this stuff so much easier.

    • @sgknexmaker
      @sgknexmaker 10 лет назад +1

      Lol it's called a bend on the 4th hole of a D harp. When you cup your hands tight and open them as you give it a strong bend it will give it the sound you're looking for.

    • @frejberglind7271
      @frejberglind7271 9 лет назад +1

      +Gaming101 It's not that simple. It's a "dirty note". He plays the 4 draw bend like you wrote but he leaks a little bit of air into the 5 draw and that is what gives it the "scream".

    • @sgknexmaker
      @sgknexmaker 9 лет назад +1

    Hello, Herre Gussow
    Come from Germany and here you do not learn so much about playing blues harp.
    Speak very bad English
    My question I have
    Hohner classic harp the wood core quilt so strong what do you do with your harps
    Paint ?
    I heard that one bathes wood core in hot oil
    then the wood core should be waterproof
    What do you make of it ?
    greetings from Germany

    Nie filozofuje, tylko zwraca uwagę na małe detale, które mają wielkie znaczenie.
    Ciekawi mnie tylko, że stosując tak ostrą krytykę 1/ sam nie wysłałeś ani jednego filmu gdzie czegoś uczysz albo chociażby grasz 2/ nie napisałeś swojego komentarza po angielsku..
    Mniej nadęcia a więcej odwagi.
