I've been playing straight for 64 yrs and learned solely by air. I play Folk, Irish, Jigs and Reels, all kinds of stuff aaaaaand well. Now I am learning the blues and I find you are one of a few on line that make sense. Thank you. I will be playing blues....well....soon.
I was practicing my harmonica for 2 weeks and now I can play all of this licks along with you. I just want to thank you, you are an amazing instructor.
Instead of giving us beginners a lot of time wasting, egocentric talk and impossible to achieve- for us- examples of playing like some instructors , you provide easy to follow, practical lessons that get us playing quickly, thank you.
You are an amazing teacher. No small talk; straight to the point. Great voice, handsome, & just the right amount of instruction. And I like the way you show, explain, then ask audience to play with you. That works for me. Thanks so much. You’re da bomb
Just found you,, Im 75 years old = and a musician = and it is a great pleasure to see how you explain, and make it so simple to understand,, well done..
I love the way u have the proper music sheets with the hole numbers along with the sound graphs. Makes it very easy for a musical beginner like myself.
Sorry to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account? I was dumb lost my account password. I would love any tips you can offer me!
@Zion Alexis I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process now. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
Absolute genius, you say what key harp is being used and then you go step by step to help those in need, I am adding new licks to my JAM, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.....
Simplest, most concise, cleanest breakdown of blues licks I've seen anywhere. De-mistifies the entire process. Those note combinations strung together in differing ways and well played can give one a solid base. Sugar Blue started the same way. lol
I'm definitely playing it in the right timing but that rich sound you make and your smooth lead ins are indicative of expert rather than newbie. You're a black belt
Sir Iam sure you are aware of the harmonica soloist with Victor Young's orchestra of the 60's Richard Hayman. I don't hear the sou nd of the current harmonica players of the day sound like Richard Hayman. Please comment this query thanks
His are unquestionably the best cut to the chase video method for playing blues harmonica I have seen on this site. I echo the praise of others regarding the accompanying tablature. Perfect.
thanks for the lesson. what I like about the way you teach is how you dive right into the good stuff that we all want to play and let us work out the "minor" details of trying to make it sound good.
I am a lifelong guitar player, sadly an arthritic thumb has curtailed my playing until I can get a new thumb joint. I have been in the doldrums for some months until I saw your RUclips……so a C Harp it is. Just downloaded your tab and one hour later I’m all smiles with sore lips. I’m used to endless practice so I’m looking forward to being an epic Harp player
Never commented or reviewed or rated anyone or anything in my life until now.... There's alot of good tutor's/tutorials and free lessons on RUclips (gussows being my own go-to guy generally) but this lesson has been the 1st one where I "think" I actually just jammed for the 1st time ..... Many thanks my friend keep on going 👌👍
I'm a rookie. I feel dyslexic with the arrows, but it helps me think about what I am doing. So hopefully I'll get this down with a lot of practice. Not sure about the music notes. It's harder than it seems. Thanks for your lesson. I'll be tuning in for more.
Hey Tom, just got back on track with my harmonica self taught lessons and finding you and your amazing talent and will to teach for the mere joy of sharing and expanding this amazing musical community just made my day. You are an amazing person, I am so grateful that I found your lessons. Thank you so much for your dedication. Greetings from Chile!
Some nice graded confidence building exercises combined with an excellent practical demonstration of how to read music notation. I learned a lot. Many thanks!
Thanks. I can play tunes but don't know much about licks and where they go in a song when jamming. Maybe here, I can learn that trick. First, to learn the licks. Thanks for these lessons.
i started getting bored with harmonica because i wasn't good at bending but when i played the first three licks i was surprised that its easy and fun. great video, as always
I had been trying just the 1st Lick @0:36 for a while and wasnt sounding anything like in the video Then I just tried most of the draws and blows in the same breath and it actually sounded close to the video, thanks Tomlin for sharing an easy to start lesson
Great stuff to build on and to use as puzzle pieces and put them together, add/ subtract notes…. Add nuances like volume swells, dynamics and trills. Possibilities are endless. Great stuff
Thank you for this video. I haven't played in years. I stumbled across your video, watched a bit and then went to get my harmonica. I forgot how much fun playing was.
Really great choice of licks for a beginner here. They can easily be modified as your skill level goes up. They work really well as a base to improvise from. If someone learns this 7 licks and really practices them until they are imprinted on them, they can take these licks and do so much with them as they improve. Again, really great choice here to teach people and give them the foundation to improve from.
Cool tut. I'm a beginner and you explained this very well. I've been searching for the right channel for harmonica tuts and finally found the perfect one. Really like your channel
Thanks for this! Ive been walking around my workplace practicing because as an IT there is lots of loading times and walking back and forth. Im just kinda timing it with my steps
Thanks again or wonderful teachings ! I have played harmonica for decades but just few weeks been going round with these RUclips siten. Nice to get boost for playing!
Tomlin Leckie i was waiting for my harmonica , i currently didn’t have too much money and i realize this instrument cost $5 so i ordered it. I think i need to learn this instrument as new activity and stress relief. Thankyou for your free updates
Thanks for the licks! In Lick 3, measure 2, I think the value of D note should be augmented by dot in notation, and the B note should become eighth, please correct me if I'm wrong and don't blame, I have just a music school background (I play piano) My first C-key Hohner Special 20 harmonica will arrive today or tomorrow max., can't wait to put my hands on it :)) I've found many interesting videos on your channel, I think they will help me a lot to take my first steps, thank you for being here)
Thanks for free lessons. The way you teach is very helpful and easy to follow. I'm having trouble downloading your tabs but will keep trying. Thanks again!
Subscribed and liked videos. Bought a Big River Harp C for my dad, but he's not seeing it much, since it's in my hands constantly. :) And after watching all videos on RUclips on bending notes, I was bending within 15 minutes after your video. Thank you man!! Keep up the good work.
You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you for sharing. I accidental found your channel and I am your fan. I am a retiree beginner and will follow your advice and learn steadily in my comfortable speed.

Excellent presentation I actually was able to follow your instruction and I got close to what sounded like music, 😂🤣😂🤣this is my first time picking up an instrument with the intention of actually learning how to play it. Thanks for sharing.
You rock! Keep drawin and blowin, because I'm having a blast listenin! I like when the harmonica goes wa wa wa wa wa wa wa when you do those 4 draw and 5 draw worbles!
This looks like the best teacher I've come across, I can't seem to get these notes, I just bought a new harmonica a Suzuki Manji key of C, am I using the wrong one, I need a blues sound

I'm a guitarist trying to get into harmonica and this video is absolute gold.
Thank you my man 🤘
Same dude, got a harmonica a few days ago, trying to learn some nice blues licks for when out on the road.
@@stix3179 Same! Just bought it today online, so i'll get ut in a couple days. Is it easier to learn if you have guitar experience?
@@albertfobian846 Oh yeah its a lot easier if you do fingerstyle in my opinion due to like understanding tabs and stuff. Good luck bro
@@stix3179 Oh nice! And good luck to you too!
