It’s funny, I immediately thought “just bring a board down the wall to look like a support post and solve the trim problem” then a couple min later you mentioned it. 100% go for it.
Yes! I was just thinking you could wrap the corner of the wall that sits under your horizontal 'beam' with the same distressed wood to make it look like a vertical suport beam and then do something similar on the other side so your baseboard would have a natural stopping point! Great minds....!
Yes, I agree that's the best solution, making it look like a natural breakpoint in the house structure. Just be sure to cut out the baseboard and bring the wooden plank to the floor. A matching one directly opposite would make it look as if it was an original division, matching the beam overhead.👍
another way to scuff up wood boards is to put random screws, nuts, nolts, nails into a burlap sack and then just whack the board (bonus: therapeutic aggression release)
I would’ve just stopped the green color on the baseboard at the corner and then you don’t have the cut off area below the beam. Then the living room area would then just flow into the kitchen. This kitchen updo is amazing. Love, love, love all the color and design. 😍
Agree, i feel that the corner view angle is not see as often as the angle as in standing in the living room or from the angle when standing at the kitchen table.
@@molly_lf but i just dont think it would flow that much.. Besides if she put a bar under the wooden beam and just stopped the geen paint there, it would look more built-in and it would fit the farmhouse theme more, just like the long hanging rack by the window.
Only watched the first second of this video and I just want to say, I do not mind the painting. I can't tear out cabinets, buy new cabinets, and knock down walls whenever I feel like it. Showing how to paint your way into a new space is just so helpful to me.
Excited for this - we're unable to renovate or decorate our rental, so living vicariously through Danie ☺ EDIT: I am aware that there are myriad 'renter friendly' updates possible, but for specific reasons we are unable to make any changes to our property at all. I constantly personalise my furniture & furnishings, but it's the actual decoration and renovation aspects that I most look forward to in the future, plus hopefully having a decent space to DIY in - I am very envious of the 'She Shack'! 😊
I have noticed that may of the rental DIY just ask the landlord especially if it is a light colour [saves them the bother ]which you could repaint before you leave or they use the contact paper.
There are still things you can do to spruce up a rental that's renter friendly! Just search on RUclips and you'll see what I mean. I'm renting right now but I still want this to be home. 😊
Changing out handles and drawer pulls, switch plates is easy, light fixtures a little more difficult. Keep the ones that were there and reinstall before you go. How do you feel about wallpaper? You can use fabric soaked with liquid starch to make a removable wall paper. Watch this first for the nitty gritty but substitute starch for wall adhesive ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=use+liquid+starch+to+put+fabric+on+walls and then this one for tips ruclips.net/video/FT0EsBta4TU/видео.html Hope this gives you some inspiration.
@@hazelmeldrum5860 Oh, absolutely, and I have done that in the past, but in our current rental we're not able to make any alterations at all. I content myself with upcycling items, but will relish the day I can paint - or even knock down! - a wall :-)
What I love about Danie is she doesn't go overboard with the makeover and replace each and every piece just for the sake of makeover-ing. She keep things REAL use all the piece which is dear to her and I think that's what makes a house HOME!
Dear Danie, I like your "board on the wall as a divider" (architecturally that is an "engaged pilaster" helps to have a dad who's an architect to supply all the fancy-pants lingo). The board will give the optical illusion that the 'beam' is supported, provide the visual break to make sense of the color change, and dress up the doorway to give the kitchen more of a sense of place. I enthusiastically endorse the board ;-D. You are absolutely correct, BTW. The copper pendants are s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g!
Love the idea of wood going down wall cut out baseboard finish board same as beam,it will look fantastic Love both you and your show, stay safe. I'm almost 70 and I do all my diy work myself ,it is addictive. B
Love it, the shaker pegs, the curtains, the shoes. Here’s an idea: for the dividing line between rooms, continue the beam down the wall, but just make it project out an inch or so. Beams in English cottages are all sizes.
Simplest solution (best, imo) for the baseboard-return the living room portion white all the way to where it meets the green. BUT, with that being said, I also think you should go with your idea of bringing a board down the wall to split the color. Don't stop there-make it look like a beam partially hidden in the wall, and mirror it on the other side of the entry by wrapping the wall as you did the ceiling to make it appear to be a support beam. It will frame the entry to each room beautifully! Can't wait to see what you choose to do! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Something I consistently love about these transformation videos is that Danie looks like I do during the process, and then during the reveal she gets ready after days of living in the diy den and it just really feels relatable 😂
Turned out amazing! The clogs as a planter is absolute genius and I love how you used the sage. I feel like with the paint, I actually don’t even mind the colour of the cabinets now too!
The baseboards: My sister had an open concept living/dining/kitchen and she wanted the dining/kitchen walls one color and the living room another, so she painted a wide stipe of a third color in between. You could do this and carry the third color down over the base board, or you could use a board but cut the trim out and carry the board all the way to the floor. The silver ducting in living room: yikes! that looks crazy! Paint it copper! Or gold! Or brass! Or black! Anything but silver! Love this video!
Oh my gosh! I think this is my favorite DIY of yours to date!!!! For the baseboard deboccal - I would just bring it to that corner and not run it halfway down the wall.
The best part of waking up on Saturday morning isn’t Folgers in my cup (I may have outed my age there lol) but Danie on my phone! What a knock out space! Thank you for sharing!
I'm usually a silent watcher, but this time I MUST comment. This may be my very favorite makeover to date. I love/love/love all the colors...and the copper light fixtures! Can we stop and admire them for a few more moments. 5 stars! 2 thumbs up. Way to go, Danie!!
The wooden shoes as plant holders!!!!! Great idea!!!! 🙌🏻❤️ I think the wood beam looks AH-mazing. Putting a board from top to bottom to cut the baseboard, where the green and white meet, I think would be a great idea. I am loving this series ❤️
Looks great! Before you even said anything my first thought was to extend the wood beam down the wall to separate the rooms. So my vote is to bring the beam down the wall.
Loved everything. Paint all your trim green in the whole house. I loved the faux beam, the peg shelves, the copper fixtures, the black chairs (best decision on that ) , the kitchen pulls)handles, new rug....all great. I am super impressed with your style and skill. Jeffrey is much to be appreciated as well. It's hard to find someone onboard and so helpful. 💚
Danie!!! The copper! The green! The beam! The peg shelf! All PERFECT imo! Yes, I would add a vertical board on wall to match the beam to join both rooms and solve baseboard dilemma! Stunning! 💙
I really love the redo - my favorite is the beam and your peg shelf! I’m glad you chose the sage green for the trim! The other green was very pretty but I think it would have been too bold for the look of the room!
Dutchy here! Really fun to hear you have Dutch heritage and amazing to see a Zaanse clock and clogs in your kitchen 🥰 And yes, my grandfather actually walked around in clogs in his garden, which is véry old fashioned for this Millennial.
So glad you did that Shaker shelf. I want to do a similar thing in my house and now I have some inspiration. I have used Milanote since your apothecary cabinet and really enjoy it.
I was thinking the same thing! I think there's lots of ways to go with plants. Something hanging on the wall that's nice and tendrill-y, an accent wall plants. If you want someone lower profile than a plant stand to give walking clearance, maybe a leaning ladder like you did in the living room of your last apartment and hang plants off of that. You could play with the ladder to make it farmhouse! Still love the beam idea. Danie, you did so much for a refresh and it's all beautiful!
I absolutely love the refresh of your kitchen! My favorite part has to be your personality because you have one of the best personalities on RUclips by far!
I live in a house older than yours where every room is a different color, including trim/baseboards. So a purple baseboard runs into a green baseboard into a blue baseboard, etc. I wish I were allowed to paint.
Hey Danie, I just wanted to say thank you for the joy you bring to Saturday mornings. Your energy and creativity is inspiring. Its so cool to see how you are making your place a home step by step. The world wants everything right away and you show something different - small changes progressively make a huge impact. Good choice with the baseboard trim! I thinking bringing the beam down to separate the two spaces would be the right solution. The beam looks AWESOME!
I love how it turned out! My favorite part is the faux beam that looks like it would have been there since the beginning. My first thought when you mentioned the baseboard color problem was that you could make an ombre effect so that it seems like the white color of the living room baseboards is transforming into the sage green color of the kitchen baseboards - that would be an artsy touch (with even more impact if you decided to do the same with the whole wall, in case you'd wanted to paint the livingroomwall a different color). But your idea with another plank as a supporting beam also sounds promising and may be even better for the space! :)
Why does this make me want to go back to Amsterdam and travel Europe SO BADLY? Your kitchen looks like it could be a B&B there, I think. Uuuugh I want to travel again!! I'm so ready for this pandemic to go away. I hope your kitchen makes your heart happy. 💖
Your farmhouse kitchen refresh/makeover is my absolute favorite! Your kitchen was pretty before your changes, but it is stunning now. And I do like the color/style of the cabinets.

I absolutely love the look. It feels like an old world farmhouse with the sage trim I think the cabinets should be that color too. It gives such a warm and cozy feeling.
Daniel I don't know if I've mentioned it before but I absolutely love your little puns. They crack me up every time and just another reason why I watch, aside from the projects. 😍

I share your excitement for the faux beam! Well done!! Yes, fake that room transition out with a continuation of the board down the wall!
The Dutch clog planters are absolutely adorable. I have a pair of my grandmothers from her trip to Holland and this is such a great way to display them
I'm in love Danie 🥺 this renovation is amazing, I can't find the words 😍 Like someone else said already, I think you should have the baseboard green only at the corner, so that the two rooms can flow into each other and it wouldn't seen so strange? Maybe? 😹 I love the faux beam, but most of all the touches of history of your family ❤️ Loved also the Kenobi O'clock 😂💞
What fun to watch :) I am a white-trim kind of girl, but your sage is beautiful. I love the kitchen runner, the clogs are perfect, the tiffany lamp is so charming and the curtains are genius. You are so talented! I am not a professional painter, but have done lots of my own spaces over the years. I hate painters tape, because it is expensive, tears badly, is fiddly to install and takes WAY too much time, and then it pulls the paint off... I find it easiest to paint the trim first with a good sash brush. Then I cut in on the walls with a good sash brush again, finishing with the roller on the rest of the wall. I always buy good paint and either use a tinted primer or a primer /paint combo. Spending more money on the paint and brushes saves time, and good paint needs fewer coats. The right prep on the woodwork (which I am not always patient enough to do) means the paint doesn't chip later.
I've wanted to wrap a header in my kitchen into a faux beam, and everyone has told me I'm crazy. But after watching this, I'm totally gonna do it! Thanks :)
I’m a Dutch girl too and I was looking at my clogs and now I know what to do with them!! Love the green and how you made your space personal not just a Pinterest copycat version of the same things

Exactly. Read my mind about the support post!

Me too. I would cover both sides with wood.
The beam is a triumph, it looks like it was always there!
Yesssss i agree @shabbysuse
exactly what i was scrolling down to comment. that beam is such a win!!
I wish you had run the beam all the way down the doorway like the inspiration. I think that would have looked so cool!
You are the only person I know who executes Modern Farmhouse properly.

whipping wood with a thick chain works too. This is what we did to age custom cabinets.

Millennials: "Avacado green was such an ugly trend in our parents' generation."

What goes around comes around even though the Avocado was darker, the sage is for sure similar. Mustard, Harvest Gold, Burnt Orange 🤣
Rather more aesthetically pleasing as paintwork than a bathroom suite, though... 🤣
@@rebecarendell It's a slow fade... We must be vigilant, or we will have entirely sage green bathrooms as well. 😅

Love the brass lights but the green on the windows is the winner for me. Great job.
Absolutely love all of it, love the colour of the trim but I think my favourite is the beam. ❤
I've wanted to wrap a header in my kitchen into a faux beam, and everyone has told me I'm crazy. But after watching this, I'm totally gonna do it! Thanks :)
I'm obsessed with that ornate lamp on the dresser and the clog planter is so dang cute!!!
I love ALL of your work, BUT to date, THE CLOGG PLANTERS 😍😍😍😍😍. Great job, continue please.
I’m a Dutch girl too and I was looking at my clogs and now I know what to do with them!! Love the green and how you made your space personal not just a Pinterest copycat version of the same things
I think adding a board to separate the two spaces is the perfect solution. Also, I love the shade of green you chose and the copper lights!
I wonder what your dog thinks of all your DIY projects. Love this episode.
😍😍😍😍 the green is perfect! Loved the faux beam, the copper lights, everything!!!
