Yeah i am the exact same way about train, i dont agree with gambling streams but if ur going to do it, he does it the best as i know of multiple ppl he's helped. I dk train has demons like all of us but one thing is for damn sure is that train has a good heart.
Twitch Partner here. Started as a gamer streamer 4 years ago but my content has evolved to music. I really started feeling the decline this year. I stopped streaming on Twitch and from 1st Nov I'm focusing on TikTok, just as an experiment, just to explore, just to see how far I can get. I can tell that even if the majority of people still think TikTok is cringe, there are so many things that they put every day to stimulate both creators and viewers. People are more engaging, theres lots of cool intuitive features, more monetization options coming on the way and most importantly huge viewerbase with discoverability and offline content. I'm not like a TikTok defender, I'm still unsure if this is going to be my main platform, but I'm happy that I can compare the experience with what I had on Twitch for 3-4 years and explore other options. In the meantime I've started to tidy up my YT channel and upload content there, which is probably my endgoal for 2023.
Here at 48:48 right at the dot: The biggest shame from you stopping streaming is the way you were able to spread your knowledge to other streamers live. Have been loving you showing up on Destiny's stream recently, you are great in convos, and also great on youtube. Keep it up!
I actually noticed a massive drop in viewership while trying to maintain the Ad revenue share at 55%. A month ago I decided to take the hit in revenue, and shut as much of the advertising down as I could from my end through the dashboard. While it hurt on the money side, it's helped my community grow again. Was worth the risk, because I'd rather have an active community than a few extra dollars in my pocket. Thanks for sharing the information you do man, it's always appreciated.
Devin: Thank you for this YT channel and thank you for all the knowledge you give us completely for free. Since tuning into your channel, I have gained an incredible appreciation for Marketing and my viewpoint on how to be successful in New Media has changed substantially. I find myself researching my own topics regarding New Media Marketing and doing side-bar reading based off concepts you have taught in these videos. Most of the strategy that I'm using to push my own brand has come directly from you. And because of that, I am already seeing an impressive ROI in regards to brand awareness. For those of you new to this channel - this man deserves every subscription. Concepts like "0 to 1" marketing will completely revolutionize your brand. I'm probably ranting a bit now but it feels good to have someone like Devin imparting wisdom that is actually making a difference in my life. As long as you're here making content, you can count on at least 1 person here watching it.
The ads are unreal and with their new blue screen when you are using an adblock, I find myself closing the site after a few seconds trying to check up on streamers. The front-loading of ads is a huge mistake as well, they should be random during the broadcast so you start watching and then sit through the ads. Way more likely to keep the page open that way.
Yeah ads being there immediately makes it way more likely for me to decide to do something else with my time. Checking out a new person? Not willing to sit through ads. On break and just wanna say hi to friend real quick? Ads are eating into my limited time. Nevermind.
16:10 is worthy of a dedicated video. I hate the aspect of current society in which if you ever disagree with someone on anything it means you have to disown them entirely. Some of my best friends I’ve had heated arguments with. They aren’t a bad person we just saw a certain thing a different way. Now we know where each other stand and gained from hearing a different perspective. No 2 people are going to always and permanently agree on every single thing.
Something I like about youtube live streams is you can rewind on the fly or you can restart and watch on 1.5x/2x having that function is a game changer. Especially with ads. it means you never have to miss a moment.
I understand that its technically not "Trainwrecks job" to announce that this site was owned by stake, but given the whole situation with Twitch and Stake and Trainwrecks involvement with them, he definitely should have mentioned it to his audience. Though they weren't intentionally trying to hide the ownership, the majority of Trainwreck's audience likely didn't know since they're not the ones who are going be looking at the LinkedIn Job posts for it etc. Its pretty obvious that he intentionally didn't mention it because he didn't want to bring attention to it knowing that there would be community backlash right from the start if he opened with "Hey guys I'm a part of this new Streaming site owned by Stake." Regardless of whether or not they were trying to hide that it was owned by Stake, the way people perceive it is what actually matters. He should have gotten ahead of it and just been outright. Instead, he waited for people like Coffeezilla to say it and now many people will perceive that he tried to hide it, even if he didn't
I am still here at 48:48. Just wanted to say I'm always still here at the secret call out time in every video. This is the first time I've ever commented though. I've always loved your content man. Keep it up.

Still around at 48:48 I've been watching a bunch of videos from you for several months now and really appreciate the stats and insight you provide. Its really made me consider everything that before was not being considered like switching to youtube and restreaming as well as it being super helpful to keep up to date on the streamer space, one day down the line I'd like to use novo nexus to get my own sponsors once I fall into my niche.
Amazing video as always. I will sometimes tune out of a streamer that I’m a first turn viewer on as soon as I see 6-9 ads being run with in 2 minutes of tuning into the stream. The other thing content evolution: I still think dr disrespect is the number one streamer for this because he premakes scenes music and sometimes plugs pre recorded footage. I think he’s the only streamer I’ve seen do it extremely well. Just a personal opinion
Just binged the last 5 videos. here for that 48:48 call out. I have decided to start multi-streaming and looking into AI Chatgpt. Thank you for keeping me informed as always!
As a small creator that switched to YT last year from Twitch and is seeing growth, YT is being well underrated IMO at this juncture in time. When people ask you, "Do you stream?" and you say yes, they automatically say "on Twitch?" because of just how much ad capital Amazon puts out there to make Twitch well known. When I tell people I "used to" but now stream on RUclips, they often say I didn't know YT had a live streaming service for gaming/gamers. I'm more than sure Google knows this is an issue and I'm confident over the next 18 months they're going to correct that as more and more influences and creators are moving to RUclips Gaming for their gaming needs. The one thing that RUclips has over all other platforms is the ability to live stream in up to 4K resolution (provided you have the bandwidth for it). Once you get passed the 1080 realm for streaming, you gain access to a better encoder in the 1440p and then again for 4K streaming output. Also, as you've said the "AD" situation on RUclips is tame by comparison for the "gaming" area because you're only going to see up to 30 seconds of ads before getting into your favorite creator's live and then won't see another ad as long as you don't tab away or leave (and that's even if said creator has monetization enabled for that stream). Plus, the big turn for RUclips this next year, in February of 2023 will be the full on monetization of #shorts for creators that are monetized. That's a huge deal considering, if I read it right, that the CPM will be the same for shorts as it is for all other video types on the platform at the range of $3 to $5 per 1k views. It gives the opportunity for small creators that may put out some banger short content to actual feel like they've accomplished something. TikTok has a long way to go yet with their LIVE feature. They don't have a slow mode. People watching streams from PC's get very bad stuttering and buffering which is a TikTok issue, not the person from their PC. There's a serious lack of moderator tools and you can only use those tools from a phone and also not from a PC. Some other stuff that needs addressed. They're definitely working on it as they're expanding into the gaming live stuff now by offering a similar program to what RUclips has for splits.
I feel like Twitch used to be a great way for starting youtubers to build a community, chat with them, and show themselves in a different setting. That still has a place to some extend, because I think the youtube experience right now is still a bit lacking in the chatter experience, but twitch is losing it quickly, and theyre not focussed on it anymore anyway. I don't think people really come to twitch to chat anymore.
Thought Spotify was audio only? How would ppl be able to explain what he’s doing not audio wise? Showing sites, paint, etc? He has to change his format etc. reason why its on yt
I created my account in 2009, back in the JTV days, and I've been a viewer pretty consistently over the years. I remember when people were being banned for having the game capture make up too small of a percentage of the screen, or for playing videos rather than live gameplay (while pretending to play, of course). True veterans will recall Destiny's iconic TTS fundraising stream, which permanently changed streaming despite being controversial at the time. All of these little controversies caused change both on the platform's end and on the streamer's end. Twitch ceased to be a website for gamers and became a website for chatting, hanging out, or traveling. Instead of what percentage of screen space should be covered by gameplay, it was what percentage of one's body should be covered by clothing. At this point, I struggle to articulate the core identity of Twitch as a platform. This is pretty much embodied by the "react meta," where the majority of Twitch's content became content from other platforms, spiced up with a few words or hot takes from a streamer here and there. Disregarding the ethics, legality, or even morality of react content, it just speaks to the void at the heart of the platform. In a sense this has always been the case, as back when Twitch was exclusively for games, it was technically still streamers making use of off-platform content. But the enjoyment came from the skill of the streamer (either as a player or entertainer), which transformed the content into something you couldn't see anywhere else. Now, you can literally watch the same video that the streamer is watching and your experience will hardly be any different. Ultimately, I'll still watch people stream the games I like so long as there's a place for it. I don't really care where that place is. Twitch itself will probably collapse eventually, and I won't really mind.
I had to pause it when you were talking about the react meta, the twitch culture and how hard it is to attract younger viewers. When I started watching back in the justin tv days I got hooked on the site and content because people could play music that I enjoyed listening to while they were gaming and I watched a ton of the 24/7 movie channels and it was a blast. I watched a lot of movies that I have never and will never pay for but that I otherwise wouldn't have ever chosen to watch, I also got introduced to some other franchises like Adventure Time and because of that I bought some merch etc which supports those franchises. Bringing it back on topic if I had to suffer through starcraft grind streams without any music playing I never would have stuck around. Also I know everyone says that having a healthy tournament scene with lots of events is great but looking back at the MLG days those events were massive and everyone followed them and there was a collective culture with references like the NASL sound guy meme that everyone knew. These days I can't even tell you when events are besides the Internationals because I see a huge spike in DOTA viewers. TLDR copyright killed a huge part of the draw that livestreaming had and the collective culture around it and has absolutely impacted the platforms ability to draw in viewers over tick tok and other sites that let you blast copyright music.
Got the 48:48 and I usually don't come down to comment cause these videos are real valuable to me and it's felt to me like, "C'mon Devin, of course we're here, be confident in us watching you!" But I understand the call-out to comment, and also I guess this is more personal commenting it for you to see we're really here. Sorry didn't always do the call out, but yeah time flies while hearing your info.
48:48 - the part about ads is so true. There's so many of them. People **constantly** keep bringing this up in chat and that detracts from current conversations, FURTHER increasing collateral damage.
49:20 thank you for this video and all your other content, I am an up and coming economist and everything about what drives economy including marketing fascinates me to no end. Watching your content has taught me so much about economics, thank you so much!
Thank you Devin Nash for all of your hard work and effort into helping inform those that have no marketing skills such as myself. I always seem to be late to every party on most products and I've only been streaming on twitch for 6 months. I discovered you through my favorite streamer/youtuber and am happy I did. I will try to implement the strategies you've provided even if I'm scared. 😅
I watched Ludwigs 'Mogul Mail' video on Kick just because it came out first, but I was really just waiting to get your insight for the more detailed info. Great content from both of you, but I'll take the detailed breakdown every day rather than an overview.
Been watching you for ages Devin and almost every video has taught me something about this industry. I've also learned a lot when it comes to content creation. Thank you for doing what you are doing! Will always be part of the 48:48 crew!
Hey Devin, thank you for sharing all those great information with us. I really love your videos and I) watch them all entirely. It's really impressive how you are able to talk about one hour about one topic and it does not get boring one single second. Great work! And yes. I just posted this comment at around 48:48. Haha :D Have a good weekend.
48:48 watcher 💪🏻 I feel like anytime there’s a discussion around Twitch ads, I feel like a Boomer at 41. If it’s *only* 3 minutes of ads an hour, that less than what we used to have to deal with any 30 or 60 minute tv show. But, as Devin pointed out, getting into the 10 minutes/hr territory changes the game (in a bad way). I was in the Pragmatic/Conservative band of viewers (see Devin’s referenced graph) when it came to Twitch, and I will be the same with any streaming platform. And 95/5 splits will NEVER work long term and would change, assuming Kick lasts more than 18 months.
if people would had use it the right way by saying its a tips and not a donation they could had not been able to ask for a refunds, also you can't receive donation for yourself its not legal donation only work when its for a cause, when its for yourself its a tips as donation can't be taxes and tips can
48:48! Of course this is mad valuable. This is very interesting, but seems very unsustanable because of how hard it is to monetize a live only content platform. We will see...
One thing that was a huge red flag to me was same day payouts. That's a serious concern when it comes to fraud, and people might use the site to launder stolen cards, etc. P.S. 48:48 crew :)
I love the potential RUclips has in the streaming world. The thing holding me back on it being my main platform for live stream consumption is discoverability. I can go to Twitch and see a wall of games and categories that I can choose which then leads me to live streamers for that game or category. I can't really find an equivalent to that on RUclips. It seems incredibly limited. How do you find anything? I am still waiting for them to fix this problem.
I rarely watch Twitch as is (doesn't help most streamers I watch dont have a schedule) but I'm pretty much in your boat of 'wait and see'. Interested to see if Twitch does something to stop bleeding streamers or stays stagnant.
Before you even said it... I was thinking "Top reason for me not watching more Twitch is ads.", then you said it. I used to watch 4-8 hours a day of Twitch in 2017-2019 or so, then a bit less more and more over time. I do use adblockers too, but I still get ads every single time I go to Twitch, fire up a stream, blam 1-8 ads that can't be skipped. There are about 2 creators that I will endure it for sometimes, but the rest of the time I just close the browser and go watch RUclips instead. I know tonnes of people who do the same thing too.
48:48 crew. As someone who has been streaming for years and has not seen much growth, this is interesting and something to keep an eye on. Thanks for the great video as always. I usually watch, and rarely comment, but really appreciate your in-depth videos.
48:48 Still here and hoping that Kick at least does something in the way of showing people alternatives are possible. Even if the content ends up skewed too much toward gambling in the end I think there could be a huge benefit in the creator space if it plants the ideas of some different ways to do things. I hope the first thing it makes ground in is convincing people to try their hand at multi-streaming. The majority of Twitch streamers are WAY too attached to the "all in one basket" mindset and will sink with Twitch when things start to decline further.
The future of streaming is going to be small streamers using big platforms to get off the ground with lower risk and overhead. More established streamers will then use smaller platforms or personal platforms that users can get to from stream index sites and social media links.
48:48 I always enjoy listening to your insights on the industry. I am excited to see how Kick evolves. The more specific terms of service is a huge positive. I also know that more specific TOS = a higher potential for appeals and lawsuits. Having a vague TOS is a safety net for Twitch.
11:11 RUclips will always be number one. This is a simple fact. Twitch may end up better off trying to make theme parks, with the commercial saying "Welcome to Twitch Park, where EVERYONE gets a turn!" with a bunch of footage of Twitch Cons over the years but to highlight and showcase of elements such as rollercoasters and AR/VR experiences for all ages. Make it into the next Disney Land but for gamers and other internet weirdos.
48:48 Your YT vods are almost like a training seminar for me. And its all free. You are goated for the content you make and I am so happy you do these.
I'm sure you already know devin, but the pro of bits on twitch vs PayPal donos is that you cant charge back. When I would watch gaming streams in 2016, several streamers I watched would get a large dono charged back and then their account locked bc of it by people who didn't like them.
48:48 been watching for a while really appreciated the clarification you provided on kicks affiliation/relation with stake. thumbs up on the reporting :)
My perspective as a content creator AND daily consumer, I can see Twitch being very convenient for people who broadcast and wish to connect with other broadcasters. I guess one reason I don't want to stream on Twitch anymore has to do with inconsistent moderation and unprofessional staff. Their reasons for banning sometimes rival that of a certain large eastern country who says you can't leave your house because joe schmoe down the street did a fucky wucky or ate some *maCoroney* and now everyone must pay the piper. Why would I waste my time there without a lawyer? The biggest issue is on the consumer-end for me, the site doesn't give me relevant content that I would watch in a realistic amount of time when the entire market is saturated with "hey look at me I'm streaming too!". Obstructive ads that dodge adblockers also turn me away from even thinking about watching on twitch. Sorry but that's just the way it is man, I don't care to waste 30 to 45 seconds to "discover new people". Why would I waste my time there when I have other platforms that work better? I hope this insight has been valuable.
48:48 been looking to start multi streaming overwatch for a decent chunk of time and kick is definitely on my radar. Feel like you’re one of the only people really talking about this, used restream years ago for twitch and H1Z1 but got affiliated so stopped. Cancelled my affiliate a few weeks ago and for $19 a month restream seems worthwhile. Although no tiktok support on there like you mentioned, it’s mainly yt twitch twitter and Facebook (I probably won’t do Facebook personally just have no interest)
I'm always in the 48 48 crowd, great info and takeaway Devin. Good luck to Train, I have my opinions of him but in the long run, if he can create something beneficial, more power to him. I've seen IVS bills before, and they're not cheap
I still think Train should have mentioned Stake, hes very assossiated with that company now (for good or ill). So just be upfront about it and tell us, cause it felt like something he was hiding.
devin if i watch at 2x speed should i still do the secret callout at 48 48 or at 24 24? 🤔 keep up the good work, been watching all your recent videos and it's all really interesting and well done
48:35 I respect your stance on gambling. That being said, I would like to point out to all the people who say things like "it's blood money" etc. that at least that money is attempting to be funneled back into the creators on the platform. Helping the community should be the number one priority of any platform, regardless of who owns it or what their intentions are. If I was offered a large sum of money for streaming gambling for a few hours, etc. I would 100% take it so long as it's something I'm comfortable with. Why would anyone believe a new platform like this could possibly succeed without the kind of funding that gambling can provide? At least we know they have the money to help build this website. As far as the future goes, we'll have to wait and see. Right now I'm one of 350 verified real content creators. Not holding my breath, but there's a much better chance I make some waves on this platform than I would ever receive on twitch.
48:48 squad! I have just started to stream but have watched your videos for along time now. I have been multi streaming to twitch and youtube the whole time. Today I also streamed to Kick with 5 viewers and one was my friend. Not sure if this a real number or not because I get 0-1 views on RUclips and twitch depending on if friends and family can watch. Also was wondering if you could explain any thoughts on Ludwigs move to youtube now that it has been a year.
I’ve tried to watch so many twitch streams over the last month but I am constantly bombarded by long ads so end up leaving and just watching the same creator on their YT channel instead
I gotta admit, it's weird to see you mentioning you left Twitch because of its support of gambling just to then excitedly share a platform where you mention the express intent is to convert customers onto gambling websites as their primary source of revenue. I get there's more nuance to it, but it's just odd.
Great video. Interesting way to look at things. But I will double up and throw out some real hate... you ready? You look shorter than me... and I am below average height... BAM!!! Best of luck recovering from that burn. All the best, Devin
Taken in the context of the sportswashing etc occurring in the wider leisuretime space, what Kick is about seems positively wholesome, thanks for bringing your business mind to bear on this \m/
48.48 I didn't like the increase in ads, either as a viewer or streamer. I turned off ad manager and went back to pre roll and let the banner ads on as they don't interfere with the flow of the stream.
Imagine having a friend you do not agree with 100% of the time.....Kudos to you Devin for laying it all out like that. Respect.

It'd be amazing if you uploaded long-form content like this to spotify
that would be insane..literally
Thought Spotify was audio only? How would ppl be able to explain what he’s doing not audio wise? Showing sites, paint, etc? He has to change his format etc. reason why its on yt
@@boines no there is video.
It's simple: A new Devin Nash video? I click, like, comment and watch the whole damn thing :)
Haha :D Have a good weekend.
can always count on devin for the thorough takes, good stuff
The reason bits works is that people were donating and charging back
so it's meant to protect streamers, but it scams them on the way down for sure
if people would had use it the right way by saying its a tips and not a donation they could had not been able to ask for a refunds, also you can't receive donation for yourself its not legal donation only work when its for a cause, when its for yourself its a tips as donation can't be taxes and tips can
Even though I only livestream a few time per year on my channel, I always find your insights into this sphere of new media very interesting. Thanks!
48:48 listened on a flight while I have COVID. Made it go by quicker. Thanks!
48:48 club. Really good video, keep up the good work!
I know tonnes of people who do the same thing too.
i was honestly waiting for this video.
48 : 48 👍
Screw 48:48 we here at 56:56! Lol. Your videos are always so entertaining and educational. Thank you!
The future of streaming is going to be small streamers using big platforms to get off the ground with lower risk and overhead. More established streamers will then use smaller platforms or personal platforms that users can get to from stream index sites and social media links.
damn thats pretty brilliant
48 and I'm still here. Great video, great insights. Kick sounds like an awesome possibility! We'll see if it pans out.
48!
Great vid as always. Thanks for keeping us in the loop.
Make it into the next Disney Land but for gamers and other internet weirdos.
always look forward to your vids man, thank you for the sage wisdom
48:48 fam where the HELL you at?! Looking forward to seeing what this sight will provide one year from now
48:48, let's go! Love the videos Devin.
48:48 and video was posted 48 minutes ago! LOL no way, always catch the Devin vids within an hour of uploading, appreciate u brother!
Been waiting for this one!
48:48 EZ, really appreciate your insight man
My perspective as a content creator AND daily consumer, I can see Twitch being very convenient for people who broadcast and wish to connect with other broadcasters.
I'm here for the secret 48:48 call. Can't wait to get on your patreon in the coming months.
the content is always on point and amazing btw 48:48 !
48:48, always love learning more about topics from your videos!
48 mins in. relevant even this late after the upload date. Devin is always ahead of the curve and the insight always holds up.
48:41 and I am still engaged with your video. Great content!
At 48:48 keep up the good work! I learned so much from watching this.
48:48 on the dot exactly
48:48, always make it to the shout out. I'm still struggling at the "just do it" phase though haha
devin if i watch at 2x speed should i still do the secret callout at 48 48 or at 24 24? 🤔
keep up the good work, been watching all your recent videos and it's all really interesting and well done
48:48 gang. Your content is always insightful
48 right on the dot. Been slowly coming back to streaming & your videos have been helping see where to go plus much more I didn't think about
48:48 squad!
I’ve tried to watch so many twitch streams over the last month but I am constantly bombarded by long ads so end up leaving and just watching the same creator on their YT channel instead
still around at 48:48 big help with the fine details on the direction
48:48, let's go! I'm curious to see how Kick will do in the future.
Would love to read that Manesto!
Great specific and informative video! So..for a beginner streamer, bigger platform is better??
I gotta admit, it's weird to see you mentioning you left Twitch because of its support of gambling just to then excitedly share a platform where you mention the express intent is to convert customers onto gambling websites as their primary source of revenue. I get there's more nuance to it, but it's just odd.
48:48. Thank you Devin you mean a ton to the community.
48:48 Hello Devin. Love these long form videos ♥
48:48, crazy how not a second was wasted, great video as usual
4848!! As a Data Engineer for a Marketing team, your videos are just *chefs kiss*!!
I don’t watch Devin a lot. But when I do I always watch the whole video. Great video!!
what your thoughts on the loss in viewership could be from people going back to work and school?
I was waiting for you to make a video about KICK, thanks Davin
48:48 , god tier content as always Devin, really hope this new platform has a shoit as more strong competition putting creators first is great to see
Great video. Interesting way to look at things. But I will double up and throw out some real hate... you ready? You look shorter than me... and I am below average height... BAM!!! Best of luck recovering from that burn. All the best, Devin
Love the content as always
Taken in the context of the sportswashing etc occurring in the wider leisuretime space, what Kick is about seems positively wholesome, thanks for bringing your business mind to bear on this \m/
I don't think people know that YouNow is still alive . If Kick dies, that could be the other contender in this weird ring.
Still here at 48:48, thanks Devin as always!
48:48 mins! 👿 Always appreciate your in-depth videos Devin
48:48, watching it live right now on kick to spread the news you have of the site.
48.48 I didn't like the increase in ads, either as a viewer or streamer. I turned off ad manager and went back to pre roll and let the banner ads on as they don't interfere with the flow of the stream.
48:48 right on the dot 😎
