I ordered some leds from btf I was gonna use for my Christmas tree. I remembered you had a video on which wire was which and you answered my question in this video.
IDEA FOR VIDEO: On the PRO 200 feet version the power brick gets pretty warm when running all the lights. What if you made a power injection video, but utilized a separate 36V power injector.
I like the videos you made about cutting and splicing the lights. Very educational. The one problem I ran into was a long 12ft splice. The wire I used was a three strand 18ga LED wire. Long story short, too much voltage drop. If you look at the wires of the lights, they are closer to 20 or 22 gauge. I sacrificed the 12ft extension from the box, and everything worked. Your videos are still great. Thanks.
I’m having an issue myself with flickering. I used a 16’ length of 3 strand 18 gauge. Are you saying that if I would’ve used a 20 or 22 gauge then I would not be having flickering issues? Update: after making a second splice the flickering stopped. They are working properly now. Go figure.
So you fixed it by running a split from the source of just the power line to the start of the flickering line? Is that right? Or is it a gauge issue? I'd have thought thicker gauge is better..
@@bjmcduck i personally needed an additional splice for my configuration. Using the same 18 gauge 3 strand wire i made the additional splice just as normal. I don’t know why that fixed my issue but it did. That was not my intent when i made the additional splice. I just figured I would finish the install and then deal with the flickering. I just lucked out.
Very confusing. So if I have six 16' cords, and the fourth onward is iffy, I have to splice the first one after the power injector, and run another cord all the way to the fourth one and splice another 3-way there too?
Love the channel. Can you feed power to the middle of a strip and power both sides of the strip. Say you have a 6 foot long strip and feed the single source power in at the middle of the strip with a power supply , will it light the whole strip or only half.
Dude this is so awesome! Thank you so much! Question though, can you just run the power injection to the end of the last light instead of the beginning of the second to last strand?
I have my Govee permanent lights on my eves already. With the Govee controller hooked up I don’t have any flickering. I then replaced the controller with a digiquad and WLED then the last string and a half started flickering with full white at anything above 25% output with the digiquad. Tried injecting from the end and it shut off the entire 6 lengths So I don’t think power injecting from the end works
Great info! Have you experienced a strand not communicating with the main strand? For example, lights are on but the 2nd strand is a different color, isn’t showing on the app to alter & that strand won’t turn off with the rest (only turns off by unplugging the unit)
@chrismaherDIY - what is the maximum extension we can do in between Govee original Gen - 1 lights, because as soon as I do 9 ft the next segments starts flickering. Power injection is not an option since the power source is at other corner of the home.
I had this same issue, but it was because I ran too heavy of a gauge for my extension. I ended up using 22 gauge wiring for my extension and it worked well.
Chris, glad I ran into your videos. I do have a question, you have mentioned that it does matter where you can cut the lights. I cut 3 lights after the connector and added an extension, it worked for a bit now they don’t work. What could be the issue? I jumped that section to another connector and it works but only the first three.
@@chrisbarnard4590 , I just connected it back without the jump extension now the lights work but, I have about 20ft of light that don’t work. I am planning to buy 50ft another Govee lights and merge the two units to finish the lights on the house.
I have an injection question, and since you have the lab set up, I was wondering if you have tried it… Q. Can you introduce the power supply and controller anywhere in the run ? Say in the middle, between segment 3 and 4 ? I would think it should be a simple test with the parts you have. It would also solve needing to do power injection in your current example. If you just introduced the main power supply directly in the middle. Electrically it should be fine I believe. Any thoughts ?
Is it possible for you to go through a wiring diagram for a video that shows your testing of where a Y is possible, length of extension cables, and where you injected power from/to? Would be great to have this documentation for people working on their houses with these lights. I have a 200ft kit. and I just got support to respond to my plan where they say "Yes its possible": I want 50ft of lighting, 24 ft of extension cable, the Govee driver module, another 25ft extension, and then 100ft of lighting. Theoretically, this works. but your power injection and Y split videos give me hope I could run cable differently. Thanks again for all the work!
Does hooking up the circuit in parallel have any affect on controlling the lights in the application? Will the data chips in each light puck still be able to do their job when the circuit is not hooked up in series?
Hello Chris loved the video by watching your videos I just bought 15meter 5v ws2821b and esp32 for my room but what I can't figure out is how much power do I need. Please Help
Also curious. Mine come today and my outlet is also in the middle and I don't want to run a new outlet just for this. Most LED Strips this works, you just leave the signal wire alone and connect power in the middle and it works fine, assuming he controller isn't doing anything strange with the voltage.
Chris your videos are the best out there regarding Govee lights. Have you tried to power inject 9 segments? Is it something that can be done using your method? Will the app re-adjust to recognize 11 segments knowing that the limit is 9?
I installed a set of the new pro lights today. We used all but two segments. Even without using two of the segments, the last two segments are flickering. I'm hoping it's just a bad connection. None of my jumps are really that long. But if I have to inject power, does it have to be from the same initial power supply or can it come from another power supply?
