  • Travel rules keep changing but I was able to use Singapore’s vaccinated travel lane (VTL) to travel to this Island Nation in Nov 2021. This meant I did not have to do the 14 day quarantine if I could show proof of vaccination. Join me on my journey.

    How much time did you give yourself to get through customs and security at first airport , as it’s my first time flying in 2 years next week and pre covid I’d give myself 2 hours ? Is that enough buddy

    • @rollie206
      @rollie206  2 года назад +3

      My flight departed at 1020 and I was already at the airport about 0810. So I think about 2 hours before departure should be sufficient although I have to add that the flight was only about 60% full. There is a lot of paperwork to get through if you’re not a Singapore citizen travelling to Singapore just for a social visit. Fortunately the check-in process is efficient and there is already someone looking through your documents as you queue. Security check and immigration is still a drama at Schiphol. It’s always busy so make sure you head straight through for these checks once you’ve finished check-in. Lines for these seem to be back to the pre-pandemic times.

      @@rollie206 Regular economy has 3 seats in the middle section but premium economy has 4? I do see though that reg. has a 3-3-3 configuration but prem. has 2-4-2, which makes it one less seat, the isles look no wider in prem. economy so apparently the seats are a little wider in prem. than in reg. even though it's hard for me to tell by looking.
      However, correct me if I'm wrong, but there are other things besides seat width which make prem. economy better such as it being seperated in a seperate section which I'm sure makes it feel quieter and more peaceful, there are seperate meals given from the meals given in reg. economy and the meals in prem. economy are better and higher quality cuisine, and also the factor alone of prem. economy costing more raises the chances of you not being stuck with an uncivilized passenger. Those are my guesses on what makes prem. economy better

    • @rollie206
      @rollie206  2 года назад +1

      @@alvexok5523 Het Alvex! Good observations 👍 The premium seat width is 19.5 cm compared to 18cm in regular economy. In terms of legroom, this is 38cm compared to 32cm. And yes the cabin is separate so you do get a feeling of more privacy. In terms of food, this is just a slight upgrade to economy although premium passengers do get 3 meal choices instead of the regular 2. In pre-pandemic times you could even make use of SQ’s book the cook service. That being said, premium passengers get separate check-in at the airport and 35kg check-in baggage allowance which is quite generous. Your bags are also tagged as priority and come out together with business class bags at arrival. I took that same flight on 11 Nov and I was happy that I didn't upgrade to premium. I had three economy seats for myself on the inbound and outbound flights. I turned my little corner of the plane into a lie flatbed. Food was not really good and stingy. However, a round trip ticket AMS-BKK for 414 euros is hard to beat, especially when the plane is so empty.

    • @rollie206
      @rollie206  2 года назад +1

      Haha 😂 Stingy is not a word you often hear when describing Singapore Airlines. In pre-pandemic times, apart from the 2 meal trays, you would also get towel service, drinks service and a few snack services in between the main meals. Unfortunately, SQ’s policy since the pandemic has been to minimise crew contact with the passengers so all the extras have been halted. But you can still get snacks in the galley, or call a crew member for them to bring something to you. Was you final destination Singapore or were you transmitting?

      Yesterday's SQ flight was via an India route and 1hour and 9 minutes faster. I guess it's how the wind blows :-)
