- : so, how much brightness do you want in your tone?
Luca: yes
;)
Finally! I don't understand why alot of people argue the jc amps can't take distortion when so many shoegaze artists use them and get brilliant results. I don't own a jc amp but one of my friends has one and it honestly has the best chorus sound I've ever heard imo. Although the in built distortion is not to my taste everything else on the amp such as chorus and reverb definitely is. Keep up the great videos, it's seriously some of the best shoegaze related content on RUclips!
it's honestly one of the best amps money can buy! the entire range is awesome. it packs so much punch - amazing modulation, clean sound, reverb, stereo etc. & thanks again my dude ;)
I’m struggling with the fulltone plimsoul, fulldrive 1 but it loves my voodoo labs superfuzz and jhs calhoun. I don’t like the fact that the chorus comes last in the fx loop since I want to use my digitech reverb after the chorus
I've tried a few solid state drive or distortion pedals into my JC40, and the results were at best okay. The distortion sounded inorganic. I recently acquired a Crazy Tube Circuits Space Charged v2, which has a 12AY7 in it, and I use that as the base of all my driven tones through the JC40, as it gives me tons of harmonics and lots of organic tube gain. I set the main pedal gain about mid-way for moderate gain, and the boost side all the way up for my heavy tones, and stack both drive, fuzz and treble booster pedals into it. Sounds wonderful! I imagine similar drive pedals with an actual tube in it will do likewise.
@@wewewewa the reverb is also a big part of the sound not just chorus or vibrato
I use the built in distortion at 9 o'clock and add my Silver Horse distortion pedal and get amazing results!
The sound is really good on this one.
For me personally brightness is something that I have been needing since forever and this amp definitely got it all.
it's an all rounder
I bought this as my first amp a month ago and it exceeded all expectations. The cleans are unreal and the chorus makes them that much better. Roland 5ever
ROLAND IS THE ONE
i've got an old 80s JC-120 my dad used to play, such an awesome amp - really nice to see the JC series getting some love, thanks heaps for such a great video!!
that's awesome, it's a classic loved by many - thanks for watching!
The jazz chorus lineup provides the best clean tones known to man, and I’m not sure if the newer amps fixed this, but they take distortion and fuzz like a champ.
I love your loop at 4:28. Very beautiful. I always used valve amplifiers. Fender blues juniors and Marshall's. But since I got my Jazz chorus, I dont think that I would ever go back. And you're right, boss pedals work great with it. I love my RE-20 with it. I recently purchased my strymon nightsky and that with the JC is incredible.
Thanks for your videos. Very inspirational. 👍
Gorgeous and ethereal tones with that chorus. Cocteau Twins come to mind.
thanks so much for watching Josh!
My only issue with this amp was the distortion channel. But I solved it all by changing my mindset. I stopped viewing it as distortion and viewed it as a boost to layer over another pedal and in that context, it works really well.
ah no i don't mind it! obviously not my fave distortion ever, i tend to mostly use the modulation effects the most in-amp.
A nice little trick: To make your VST synths sound more organic and really warm, just re-amp it through the JC-40 with the bright switch on and of course the chorus modulation on. Mic it stereo and you'll have amazing sounds. I know that a lot of key players in the 80's used JC 120's as their live amps.
Have a nice day, lovely people from on of the nicest comment sections of RUclips!
thanks for the tip!
The tones I heard here are mind blowingly phenomenal!!!
thanks so much for watching (& listening)!
love this amp! we definitely use this amp when writing/recording some of our songs 💗
yessss ✨
Some of the ambient sounds that you have created remind me of what Warren Cuccurullo did on his Machine Language CD, which was just his guitar and his effects rack. Thank you for your presentation.
thank you! check out dreamgazerreverberator.bandcamp.com for more ambient sounds.
I’m so happy I have this amp. The chorus is unbelievable, and is such a good pedal platform!
that's also how i feel!
The cleans are superb and the chorus is gorgeous. I’d love to own a jazz chorus
I never owned a JC120, but I did have ( I _think_ ) a Yamaha Hundred B212, but I recall it had a built in Boss CE2 circuit, the rate and depth knobs of which were capped with same color blue as that pedal's housing. Above those knobs it said "Chorus by Boss".
It could only make two sounds, loud af totally clean, or loud af totally clean with chorus lol
Now that I think of it, I don't think it was the B212. It was very large, and it might have actually been a 4x10. Any ideas?
Edit: It was a G50 410. Wish I still had it.
Agree 100% Even the on board distortion with a bit of work can sound absolutely amazing. I use a JHS whitey tighty with the distortion on 1 and the JHS seems to tighten the "flubbiness" and you end up with a really impressive crunch tone.
love your ambient guitar sounds! would love to hear more of your guitar playing!
thank you!

The fuzz was just 👌🤯 just pure brain meltinggggg goodness.
why thank you
I have the JC22 which I use mainly at home and for small gigs. Awesome amp and great pedal platform 😎🤘😍
i really want to try the 22! love the whole jc line!
Roland should pay you a commission because you sold me on this sucker for sure. I’ve been on the fence about getting this or saving up for a twin. I played one for what seemed like an hour when the local shops opened up. That chorus is just downright special and I found I didn’t hate the distortion either. It’s got a very 80s vibe and I doubt I’ll use it a lot, but those cleans!!! Omg. I can’t wait to bring one home and plug all my stomp boxes in!!!!
i remember trying the jc-40 in store for a few minutes & instantly being in love. had to come back a few months later once i'd saved up & haven't looked back since!
been waiting for this one! i love my jc 40 and wanted to see what else i could do with it
awesome! hope this helps, honestly one of my fave bits of gear
I put in my earbuds and that stereo effect sounds insane wow
thanks for listening! it's this amp that got me obsessed with stereo imaging!
I have one and I love it. Perfect amp for me (Gretsch clean sounds mostly)
Boss and Roland is perfection. I love your signal chain.
yep, we love both! (all over our channel)
I was looking at the Kurt Cobain Signature Jaguar for a while, and now that I've seen this video, I'm 100% buying one someday. Absolutely. One Jag and one JC-40.
video on my kurt cobain jaguar coming next week!
I found an 80's JC-120 a few years ago for a fair deal and it has become my main amp. At the time I did not realize how many well known musicians had or still use them. Some of my favorites are Robert Smith of The Cure, Neil Halstead of Slowdive, Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins, and Billy Duffy of The Cult. It's a rather large list, but that amp really seems to create a sound that's unique to that time period. Great Video!
it's a large list for a reason - all great musicians! the jazz chorus is legendary in my opinion, used by so many greats. thanks for watching!
Johnny marr too bruh!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually don’t know if it was a 120 but it was a jc
@@spartan876 Certainly can't leave him out! I want to say that was one of his go to amps since The Smiths.
Slash
After some crazy money problems and stress…i made some good progress and things are looking up. My reward? Got myself a JC40 on a good deal. Sold my original one when I had a money problem. Glad to have it back soon, I can’t wait!
yayyy glad things are looking up & all chorusy with that jc :)
The JC 40 puts out a smooth groove. It takes a licking & keeps on ticking.
hahahaha
Indeed it does take a licking and keep on ticking, like a lollipop with tourettes.
I have a 1977 JC60, which I discovered after purchasing it had been involved in a fatal road accident shortly after being purchased by its original owner, which would explain why it's so beat up. It looks dreadful but it still works great and I'm not superstitious or squeamish about its history.
It has chorus/vibrato built in? Oh my god. And it's... affordable... Thank you for making me aware of this! I'm so glad I subscribed to you. Initially, I was trying to research Cocteau Twins effects but I found so much more. Keep up the good work. 👍
the modulation section is based on the original chorus ensemble by boss. i believe guthrie used a boss vb-2 as well at some point, so they share similar dna. some of the best modulation effects of all time, thanks for subscribing!
a few different things, and it's my hope that none are bad: Kim Gordon and/or Lee Ranaldo may want to sing over your lovely riff here at 1:49. My first JC-40 album was Souvlaki, by our friends Slowdive. I was lucky enough to see/hear the band pilot three of these lovely amps at the same time (perhaps they were the larger variant, but i can confirm they were Roland stereo amplifiers). your patreon page may be the tropical island that i've been swimming towards for half of my life. cheers.
thanks so much!!! i believe that would have been the 120s you saw, killer amps! i hope you find tranquility on the island ;)
Sounds great as always. Always good ideas on dreampop, shoegazer, ambient, glitchy "ghost in the machine" (Jung mc)
type tones. Always seem to find my lost highway here.
I am glad they finally saw the light on fixing the distortion. One thing I never use on my JC120 nor my JC77. It was always so strange to me, considering that Roland owns Boss pedals.
Great pedal platform is dead bang on. That Fender fuzz belted. Not sure why JC get slagged on since that chorus is what made me buy them. And still dirt cheap for what you get imo.
Running 2 of them together was mentioned from the stereo outs on Pedalboard. I suggest having one with chorus& one without (wet/dry)...or set two different speeds (wet/wet). Quadraphonic goodness lol. You could even run four outputs even splitting off two stereo delays...for a different delay tone in each amp with optional delay stacking. Get some cascading Edge-y tones.
They weigh a ton for solid state but I'm not doing much other than recording ideas in a van down by the RIVER (SNL)
I've seen professional Jazz guitarists use the JC 120 live to Metallica's Black studio album so yeah versatility across applications and different genres of music too.
Makes me want to find a stereo panning pedal and swirl it left right like Adam Jones in Tool or Jimmy Page or the Beatles or...lol.
Never had a problem other than cleaning pots and jacks which is routine stuff. Highly reliable in my experience. Shoot I still have a 1977 Roland drum machine I found in a garage sale. It still works fine.
Cheers from dark dreamscape of Detroit,
B
quadraphonic goodness! that's what i'm going to aim for. i can imagine pairing two 120s as neil from slowdive does is sensational. & yep boss/roland gear seems to be indestructible, as well as great sounding. cheers!
Very, very, very interesting. Fair price, great sound, and seems like it would be easy on the back at about 35 lbs/about 16 kg. Awesome! I'll start saving up...
thank you! be sure to buy through the link in my description if you do - really helps the channel out!
God my JC-120 weighs a metric ass ton. I want to sell it to get a JC-40 but it’s vintage and has too much sentimental value to me, it was the first real amp I bought!! Also the first real amp I shelled out for to get repaired lol.
I finally bought one of these for stereo recording and to use as a platform for my pedals, and wow! I'm totally blown away at how well it fills the room w stereo sound. To any JC40 owners , has anyone found a good amp stand that fits nicely? I'd like to get a tilt stand but Im afriad the back support bar will hit all of the back panel controls. Also, has anyone found a mic stand that supports a stereo micing setup as opposed to setting up two separate boom stands? I'm just trying to cut down on clutter since space is limited in my home studio setup. Thanks Pedal Partners for all your videos, they were a major influence on buying this thing and I couldnt be happier.
ah that's so good to hear Ric, thanks for watching & good luck with building your setup. wishing you a healthy new year!
@Luke I found an amp standmade by On Stage that worked perfectly
@Luke its an OnStage RS7500 tilt stand. It has an attachment to hook up to boom mic. This make the stereo mic placement easier, so thats a nice bonus.
Over the years I’ve experimented with Vox, fender Laney and orange. Obviously nothing wrong with any of them but I always end up back with old faithful- JC40. The best chorus and vibrato on the planet, loud as hell if you need it to be ( I’ve never gigged or rehearsed with the volume louder than 5) Effects loop as you mention is awesome and my overdrive combo (benson preamp into Keeley d&m drive into JHS whitey tightly compressor sounds incredible. For not one single reason but just a combination of many I feel the most inspired playing through the only amp I own that does not have a single valve!
it's really something special. people always ask me about the volume, but you're exactly right - it's incredibly loud! it's a classic & used by so many different artists for a reason!
Have you ever used the headphone out? I‘ve read that they put a speaker emulation into it. Is it usable in any way for silent practice? Or do you prefer the line out? Thanks!
@@Markusjohnnyk That is a great question! I had never bothered to use it so I just gave it a try a few moments ago. I don't exactly know if there is a speaker emulation through the headphone input but it sounds really really good. I found that I enjoyed the sound so much that before I knew it an hour had passed me by Lol! I tried it with a delay and tremolo in the effects loop and it was exactly the tone you would expect. The onboard chorus and reverb sound so wide and my overdrive pedals sound amazing. I would say that you could get a really good sound for recording using this method as well. I am so glad that you asked the question as it has opened my eyes to a great part of the amp I never knew existed!
@@Markusjohnnyk I use the stereo line out from my jc 22 into my recording interface. That way you can crank the amp volume. It sounds great. Jc 22 is also too loud 🤣
@@themomentkiller9167 does the onboard effects like the chorus do stereo in headphones?
The clean sound is one of the best i've ever heard. Doesn't seem to handle distortion very well, too harsh and ice picky. this would be a great amp to have for just clean and then a/b to a something that handles distortion better.
This review made my trainers grow eyes
Well I’m definitely getting my hands on one before the 80s want their sound back. 👏👏👏
haha it's a great sound!
@@pedalpartners Arrived today…I’ll be heading directly to 1983 tomorrow morning. 😎
@@troytempest290 enjoy your trip! 🏖
This is why I want this amp
correct
I started watching this and 2 minutes in I have bought one.
haha nice! happy to have helped ;) you're going to love it!
luv it!
thank you!
I loved this
thank you!
I was experimenting a lot with Roland JC using my effect chain. I had heard and read a lot about its legendary, pure sound, so when I was buying it, the bar was set quite high, yet despite that, it pleasantly surprised me from the very first use in my journey with it. I used it as a foundation for my guitar effects, and it performed outstandingly. There is no issue with playing high-gain / distorted tones - I was able to get razor blade close to recreate even AC/DC tones with the correct pickup positions on my Strat, although cleaner / twang / crunchy tones are my go to.
But what am I comparing to other users... Metallica(James Hetfield), Guns’n Roses (Slash), Talking Heads (David Byrne), The Smiths (debut album), The Cure, The Clash, Red Hot Chilli Peppers (John Feusciante), Mac de Marco, Joy Division, The Beatles (Paul McCartney), The Police, The Eagles, U2, Muse, Limp Bizkit, Sting, and manyyy more...
The best and only amp out there in this amp universe you will ever need - for live gigs, or studio recordings. VERY VERSATILE.
Mine comes in a few days. I'm so excited. I got a dd-6 and an EHX epitome to try out on it too!
that's so awesome! enjoy it!!
Going from vst amps to this is so damn refreshing. The JC40 is so nice! :)
I play a blues driver through my jc77 and the tone is great. Also, a mudhoney original for overdrive. Honestly, some of the best tones i've ever had.
One of the only good demo videos on youtube
thanks so much for watching! we also have videos on the 22 & 120 :)
Currently using this amp as my dry signal in a wet/dry set up
it's good for that!
Lovely demo and tones! I have a JC-22 which sounds very similar in a much smaller footprint. More amps should be stereo!
really want to try the 22 & yes they should be!
Yes, even if only the power amp stage
Dude finally!
it had to be done
Thanks Great review!! And you used two mics, unlike most numptys on here! Sounds great , had jc120, regret moving it on between bands.
I just picked up one of these! Found this video while doing some post-purchase/pre-arrival research. Can't wait to play around with it! Do you ever record it straight from the line outs, bypassing the speaker and dual mics?
Thanks for sharing!
thank you!
Love this channel. But as much as I do like your playing and your pedal demos hearing a JC40 put through its paces makes me real glad that they still make Twin Reverbs. Yeah I know JCs are shoegaze staples but they were used principally because they had terrific headroom, didn't weigh much compared to valve amps, and by the late 1980s they weren't particularly sought after and weren't costly on the used market in the UK. All good things those, but very much like a loveless (no pun intended) marriage.
thanks for watching out videos! :) we're big fans of BOTH the jc & twin reverbs, the more amps the merrier ;)
a while ago i bought a yamaha vr6000 as my first proper amp, in an attempt to get sounds similiar to the JC amps, ngl sounds pretty damn good and also has an amazing built-in chorus. Anyone able to tell me anything more about it in contrast to the JC amps?
great video once again! i wish i had the money for an amp like this haha
keep a look out, you might find one that pops up for cheap :)
Look for them used! They can be had at reasonable prices
Ive always coveted the idea of getting a Jazz Chorus but the 120 was just waaaay too big for me. This sounds sweet! Think I might have to get one!
the 40 might just be the one! go for it!
@@pedalpartners I think so! and I love a good solid state amp!
@@mattwatsonthesecrethelicopters Same here Matt. I am a huge Cult fan and been lusting after this specific model for 7 years. Finally pulled the trigger and it met AND exceeded my expectations.
@@sh4rkbyt3 Yeh thats awesome. I'll get one one day. Maybe the 40.
I just shed a tears
You can get a pretty cool tube amp sound by bumping the distortion up 2 notches and boosting the fuck out of the bass and mids.
Thats cool, I'll give that a try. I read somewhere on reddit that putting a compressor in the effects loop instead of the front gives you a more tube like sound, and after trying it I def agree. May take some tweaking to tame the noise.
Best chorus ever imo
i'm not gonna disagree with that
@@pedalpartners I will even say that the chorus can justify on his own the purchase of this amp (if you play a music genre that fits)
Just purchased this amp because I fell in love with the chorus and reverb setting on it. I compared it to my fender champion 100 using the boss chorus ce-2w and the boss rv-6 and was pretty underwhelmed that I pretty much have the same tone from the jc 40 using my fender amp along with my reverb and chorus pedals...I will say that the jc-40 does have a beautiful clean tone along with the chorus and reverb, but definitely not worth the extra 600 bucks if I already have the gear that sound pretty close to it. :-/ kinda bummed I have to return it.
the chorus on the jc is the same chorus ensemble circuit so that might be why, i love both the jazz chorus & ce sound! i also really love the amp for its clean tone, ability as a pedal platform & stereo sound - so definitely consider these aspect before returning my dude!
Great video as always! Was looking for a bit of insight here and some help on anyone using an older jc120 fx loop. I’ve never actually used the back of the amp but I have 2 main in and a line out is this essentially the fx loop of the amp? Been playing that amp for a decade and still haven’t got a clue ha
tones brings me to space
that's the aim ;)
I have this exact amp. I run my 60’s lacquer jazzmaster with stonewall P90 pickups into my extensive pedal board through it and it sounds glorious with lots of amp model pedals and dirt. Currently digging my royal jelly from beetronics. Keep on playing the good stuff!
that sounds like a killer set up Randall, keep on gazin'
I bought the JC120 cause I absolutely fell in love with James hetfield’s old live clean tone. The chorus and clean tone is one of a kind. But transporting it to rehearsal and performances was quite the effort; I wish I’d bought the jc60 or jc40 😪
I've got both and if I have to chose I would take the JC-120. Sure, the JC-40 is way more practical, it's about as half as big, easier to control at lower volumes and it's got some good features like a stereo FX loop and stereo input (I think modern JC-120 got it too). But the JC-120 sounds more voluminous while the JC-40 can be a bit to harsh.
I bought a quilter aviator cub last year and I love it, but if I knew about this amp back then, I would have for sure purchased this one instead.
the jazz chorus is our fave for good reason!
I wonder whether this would sound good run out to a rotary cab?
I have one myself and love it! I find it pretty bright so I have the Treble at around 10ish o'clock & Mid and Bass at 2 o'clock. Perfect pedal platform amp IMO.
the perfect pedal platform indeed!
What do you think of its distortion? It really grew on me, actually i really really like it....if you set highs to 9 o'clock, mids on full it is the same sound as a DS1 all knobs set to 12
lots of hate on the internet over it. i really LOVE IT! sometimes the internet is just unnecessarily negative! the amp also takes distortion really well (i use this amp in most of my videos & if you know the channel you know i like heavy!) ;)
Was that a tease of Olsen by Boards of Canada during the clips with the DD3-3T?
big boards of canada fan, thank you!
my favorite amp ever. i can't find anything that compares. ac15cc2 came close.
it's a good one Brett!
I have a vintage JC-120, circa 86 I think? I dunno got it second hand. There are two high and low inputs for each section of the amp, one side is completely clean and the on there goes into the onboard effects, reverb and modulation. Would putting one into each through my stereo reverb be stereo?
How did you make those cool old school tape looking effects?
Those hoop earrings are killer
i think so too Giancarlo! - paige
Have you used any Meris stuff yet? I have the Enzo and use it as a delay with filtering and pitch shifting. I feel like you'd love the Enzo or the Hedra
i'd love to! those are some pedals i need to get my hands on!
how would you compare this solid state vs the Fender ToneMaster Twin Reverb
I’m looking at one of these as I do allot of early cure tones, but my overall is very much between Gilmore and frusciante. I’m not sure if it will do that. Everything sounds amazing though
i believe it would be great for frusciante style tones, great clean tones & it has the same chorus that he used built inside it (the chorus ensemble)
It totally nails the Cure tone 100%!!!
What do you think about using different mics on each speaker?
(ex: a sm57 on the left and a e609 on the right)
Do you think that would "widen" the stereo or just make things weird and inconsistent?
Sorry for the late reply; because the vibrato effect is induced in one speaker and kept off the other for the chorus effect, the circuit may affect the tone of one speaker differently than the other. You can experiment with different mics and you’ll be fine, but you can probably get more tonal difference out of moving the mics to different positions around the speaker cone. Just make sure to check your phase in mono!
Why use the two mics rather than the stereo line outs? Is it for phasing or something? I have this amp and I’m trying to record it stereo via the line outs (just stick a headphone adapter in to silence the speaker) but everyone seems to be double tracking mono guitar because stereo comes with phase issues.. do I need to record this amp via the line out in mono and double track it? And help would be huge! Love the channel!
why bd-2 if it's supposedly the same circuit as the gain stage of the jc-40?
I actually thinking about picking one of these amps up cause of dat clean signal but I have a big muff pi fuzz and I can’t find any demos that use the big muff with the amp. But still sick sounds.
i've used it in pretty much every video, check out some of my loomer videos, the fuzz circuit on there is based on an op amp big muff, as well as some of my other fuzz videos!
I'm excitingly waiting for mine to arrive today, please hurry FedEx!
wow! did you get it Albert?
@@pedalpartners I did but it was delayed by two days, nonetheless it was worth the wait! Such a lucious sound!
I bought a JC-40 a little over a year ago. The 1st 5 months were great. Then I started to experience an unpleasant sound in the speakers. I would hit a low note on the big 'E' string, and when it would ring out, the speakers will make an annoying vibrating/rattling sound. Also frustrating is- it doesn't happen all the time. A serviceman has had the amp, ran a full diagnostics on it, which revealed nothing. He even replaced the all the boards inside of it; compliments of Roland. After having it back for a few days, the issue returned. I am at the point where I just want to replace the speakers, and see what the heck happens then. Can someone suggest to me what to replace these two speakers with; I cannot find a Roland 10" speaker anywhere. Thanks
Try another guitar Rick. I have the same issue with my Squier Bullet Telecaster that I had Seymour Duncan pickups installed in it. I switched to my Epi Les Paul with Seymour Duncan Seth Lover PAFs and it disappeared. Same for my Sire S7 too, no uncontrollable bass razzing.
I don't know what it is but I do know what it isn't. It isn't my amp.
I wonder, by any chance, if you guys have vox amps like AC10 for home use and recording. It'd be nice to see how it sounds with pedals. There are very few demos for shoegaze on youtube...
we'd love to get our hands on some vox. we use fender & roland amps mainly :)
Does anyone have experience with the JC-22? Quieter obviously, probably a little less bass, but otherwise pretty similiar?
yeah pretty much. It sounds less clear than the larger versions due to the smaller speakers, but it still sounds really really good, especially for cleans
Two questions:
1) In terms of recording, how would the sound differ if you had run the stereo outputs in the back straight to a DAW? So sorry if that is a stupid question!
2) How present do you find the hiss is? I’d be playing at lower volumes and am a bit out off by the idea of not being able to unhear it amongst the guitar signal.
i personally prefer recording with mics, but di the amp sounds great also - really clean! i'm used to the hiss & it doesn't really bother me tbh. it's such a great amp all round! thanks for watching :)
I couldn't get my head around the hiss for quiet a while also. Then I realised that I only hear it when I'm not playing and now it doesn't bother me. Another thing to keep in mind is that JC's have been on millions (well, lots!) of albums and that hiss has never been an issue in that sense either.
could u maybe do a vid on what to do when ur overwhelmed with gear?? Like I bought a few new pedals (dba rooms and jhs supreme) and I’m a liiiitle overwhelmed…maybe also they were impulse buys and I didn’t realize my rig was perfect for rn
i have something like that in the works!
Billy Duffy uses a JC as part of his rig! Kinda unexpected but I guess it just shows the versatility of the amp.
Unexpected? He's been using them for nearly 40 years.
@@rodmoyes80s Unexpected in that you wouldn't immediately associate hard rock with Roland amplifiers.
@@rahzark those of us who have been Cult fans since then wouldn't associate them with hard rock either. Just sayin'
@@rodmoyes80s Alright, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
Do you think a jc40 would pair well with a Hiwatt Dr504 in stereo?
The shure 57 microphones, if I wanted to record on GarageBand or logic, could I have the cables for those two microphones go straight to my Scarlett 2i interface? Also, can I record both microphones simultaneously. Or could I just plug the amp directly into the Scarlett interface. I just bought the amp and am waiting for it to ship. I just wanna know if I need the two 57 microphones If I plan on recording. Love your channel by the way! Keep the vids coming. Always learning new stuff.
You can do both ways
Using mics usually gets livelier results, but it depends on what you want to achieve... try first by using the emulated speaker outpu(s?) (can’t remember is it’s stereo out)
Have you ever tried the JC-22? If so, how would you compare the two?
I have the same doubt…
Hi Everybody! I love mine especially for its clean tones! Now I wanna try out how JC-40 feels with a nice overdrive or a distortion pedal! Any suggestions what OD or distortion I should go for? I like the sound of Ages in the vid by the way. Thanx!
boss bd-2 every time! thanks for watching 💗
@@pedalpartners Thanx, gonna check it out! :)
@@gordospeti see ruclips.net/video/lqsIM2MmatE/видео.html :)
@@pedalpartners Ok, I have ordered it. We will see. Actually, I already have some pedals, but none of them is up to the built-in OD, which I like lots! The built-in effects work together very well! I might get the T-REX Mudhoney Classic too. I want new OD pedals only for a change. Also gonna check the delays you have reviewed. I need a delay too.
@@sh4rkbyt3 Cool! Thanx!
Im debating between a JC-40, JC-22 or a Fender GTX 50. I live in an apartment and need to play at very low volumes and often use headphones. Which would you recommend?
I can’t speak to the Fender, but I had the 40 and moved to the 22. The only thing I miss is the vibrato from the 40. I found that I liked the volume above 9 o’clock to get a nice sound and that was too loud on the 40. Also, I never used the distortion on the amp and relied on pedals, so that didn’t do much for me. Hope that helps with your search! Both JCs are incredibly versatile and great sounding amps direct or through speakers!
Major scale and Shoegaze = 😎
Is the built in reverb stereo like the chorus? Just wondering, if I was to have a stereo delay in the effects loop, and add the amp reverb on top, would the stereo signal be preserved?
Yes it would, chorus and amp reverb are last in the signal chain, after the effects loop
With the fuzz it's very Siamese dreamy.
I love my jc 40 for reliability, volume, and of course fantastic chorus. Having a bit of trouble getting dirt pedals to sound good through it. Pedal stacking has been my best solution. Any suggestions?
I found using a dirt pedal with an actual tube in it helps a great deal. I have a CTC Space Charged v2 which sounds great on its own through my JC40, and makes stacking easy.
Dude thank you. I'm looking at some valve pedals now. Yesterday, I put up a really interesting video on my RUclips about how to tune your guitar picks you should check out!
I use a compressor - the JHS whitey tighty and it even makes the on board distortion sound killer. In my signal chain, I put the whitey tighty after my distortion/overdrive pedals. It just seems to tighten them up and give them loads of clarity. Hope this helps!
What effects are you using at 5min to create that washed out pitch bendy loop?
awesome
thanks so much for watching! :)
Got a question, ive managed to keep some money for a jc20, but im hesitating between that or a walrus julia + a fuzz pedal ? what would u get ? currently have a boss katana 50
Btw really loving this channel, spent so much time on it already and I discovered it today
Both are great pedal plataforms, is up to you, really.
Hows the katana treating you?
@@timino8142 pretty well, i just think the jc is an overall much better amp
@@maximesinatra2321 it is Maxime. I own both the Katana MK II 100 and it IS a great flexible amp but it's not a JC 40 or even close. The JC 40 is my standout amp that delivers tone in a way no other amp I've played delivers. I also own a Blackstar and a Roland Blues Cube Stage. The JC 40 beats them all.
@@sh4rkbyt3 I still have my katana but i've mainly been playing with virtual amps as of late, for sure getting a jc as my next amp :)
I love the jazz chorus amps. The dirt pedals through it sound horrible to me though.
alcanza para tocar punk con un baterista sin microfonear?
So has anyone ever tried the little baby JC (I think its the JC-20?)? Is it like, same sound less loud, or are there huge differences?
If my memory serves me right the 20 watt version doesn’t have the stereo imput........ sorry, I checked, it’s the distortion channel that’s missing.
JC22 is for portability and I believe, people with space issues such as a small apartment. I have the 40 in my 1.5 bedroom apartment and I have to keep it at 1-2 on volume unless I use my headphones!
