Hey, it will work but to ease your concern here is my advice. Double check with a multimeter the 5v and GND point while the mouse is plugged in. Then snap off the connector area and hook up the PCB mod!
Did you end up trying this? I opened up my MX Master 2S and the body of the USB connector does not have a direct connection to the ground point used for this mod, so I'm a bit curious if this would work.

Nice mod you got there. Just bought the 1st gen MX Master for $12 and I might consider this mod when I need to replace the battery eventually.

Do I need to hone down some of the plastic in order to fit the usb-c cable in the usb-c connector?
Correct, you will need to remove about 0.5mm of plastic from each side as the usb c port is wider than micro
