I totally agree. And how the hell does the speed triple even fit into this catagory? They sound a bit bias when it comes to the speed triple. There are so many other rivals in the naked division, like the Ducati Monster, Z1000 and the list goes on. Sorry guys but I feel like this video was not all that good.
Please leave the music out or very low. I don't mind if I'm listening to you guys or the bikes but not keen on overly loud music where it should be engines.
I agree with some commenters that the music overshadowed some of what we could have gotten out if the video, but that said, I loved the track. Who was the artist?
I agree with others thinking that the better comparo would have been with the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, BMW S 1000 R and the Ducati Monster 1200 S. These are newer bikes that have more in common with cutting edge advanced tech, performance and safety. I'm not convinced that your riders were more impressed with the Tuono (because of the electronics ease of use?). Maybe it's because one of the three bikes I'd prefer to see will be my next bike. Thanks for the vid....hell, I just like to watch bikes cutting corners.
The S1000R offers ONE interesting feature that the Tuono doesn't have, and that's the dynamic damping option which may not be all that desirable given the current technology. The Tuono on the other hand, has a V4 engine, a fantastic chassis and industry-leading electronics. Passing it off as not being "cutting edge" is just mental masturbation, there is nothing about the bike that isn't current technology.
Steve C I stand corrected on that "cutting edge" count. The Aprilia is an impressive bike with proven RBW development, traction control and GP winnings . Too bad there isn't a larger dealer network in the US. I suppose I'm massaging my limbic system over innovations like Bosch's lean-angle sensor tech and the fact that most deficiencies outlined in this review and in MCN's mag could probably be remedied on most newer bikes with a software update. The rider options available for many different types of modes is apparently working for BMW and KTM. Market share numbers are impressive.
It sure is, but the Tuono v4r has had a three-way lean sensor package under the seat since 2011 and in the new ABS version, can detect a potential lowside and attempt to deal with it (in ABS rain mode). It sounds like you are still not aware of how advanced the bike is.
Steve C You are correct. I was not, but I'm sure I'm not alone. I mean...look how popular Aprilia is otherwise. Whose fault is that? Now that I do know how incredible the Tuono V4R is, it makes me wonder why the company isn't more successful beyond the engineering and racing phase. Since I can afford to buy any of these bikes, I've just decided to scratch the Tuono off the list thanks to the personality I now associate with the brand. That makes it a little easier. Thanks, Steve.
Great video! I just can't wait to see a monster 1200 review. Also, is that a different version of the standard Tuono? It looks a little different, and it has a bigger windshield.
hello MCN, which bike in your opinion is easier to wheelie? i am considering a Speed Triple or a Tuono V4r and would like to know what you guys think? i'm not a wheelie expert and am looking for something relatively easy to control in a wheelie...Heard an opinion that Tuono V4r is very hard to wheelie! is that true?
great round up at the end! but only because the Tuono is more userfriendly menas it ranks better than the KTM ? maybe if we give the ktm another year or tow it will be more refined to the point of not getting better ?
I have really lost faith in the road testers of MCN of late, they seen to be not future focused and not power hungary (given it is controllable) How about how the motorcycle makes you feel not how every minor detail makes it worse.
There is one thing that is hard for me to understand? Why is KTM superduke r so expensive despite the fact that there are better bikes compared to Superduke. Can somebody explain this to me? I am confused ?????
How often are riders adjusting electronics for it to even be a reasonable factor? Are people really picking level 5 traction for one corner, then level 3 the next? Seems like extra distractions.
Not the test i'm waiting for..that will be the Z1000 vs S1000R vs Monster 1200/S.That is one group test I'm eager to see the results. Still include the bikes you have here of course as the are excellent , but I feel the first 3 on my list will grab 1st,2nd and 3rd!
Great video. Thanks. Any plans to do a 2014 Multistrada GT vs KTM ADV vs ??? Also-It makes a huge difference to me as a viewer to hear things about how easy it is to live with on long rides, how comfortable it is along with approximate rider heights, etc. so maybe more people can relate? Much appreciated.
at the end of the day, just pick the bike you like. specs wise, all the super bikes of their own category aren't really far off each other, the important thing about reviews is to understand what are each bike's pros and cons and not which is overall the best bike. after all, not everyone has the privilege to test ride all these bikes
I still want that KTM, the Tuono is awesome but the styling just doesn't do it for me. Look forward to seeing this vid done again with the s1000r in the mix... That may change my mind.
First of all, the sound quality is extremely poor. Get real equipment. Secondly, Not fair to compare these bikes. Tuono is on another level in everything, money, power, performance Superduke is what, 200 more cc than the ST? All these bike are nice but not fair to compare them.
The Aprilia is a great bike... but not really naked. If it were a girl, I wouldn't have to turn my SafeSearch settings off to see her... the other 2 tho?? XXX all the way. And I've never ridden the Tuono but on my current '08 SuperDuke R, just resetting the trip ODO with gloves on while cruising isn't exactly safe; I can't imagine adjusting advanced rider settings while riding...
Its so easy you dont even need to take your hand off the handlebars, you can do it mid corner and the quickshifter will have you wahooing in your helmet!
What's Triumph for european bikes , that's Suzuki for japanese! Both have weird headlight designs, low tech, but lots of power and that makes it fun, and both require certain people to buy them! Aprilia carry italian luxury and prestige it has pedigree, KTM is hooligan to the core, super reliable those engines goes easy 80k miles . Triumph looks boring in my opinion, and doesn't look appealing to the eye.
It's funny how stupid most ppl are. Learn to read. 10-15 comments say that the beemer and rattlebike aint out for testing yet.. /sigh Can't wait for next round in the test, I belibe that ktm will win dyno, and match Tuono acceleration. Then the Tuono will crush em both on the track like the RSV4 did with all compeditors before. :)
I love MCN, but the music overlays on these videos need to stop. We're bike enthusiasts, not terrible techno music enthusiasts. Can't hear a single engine note over the music. If you devoted this much space in the print publication to discussion of techno instead of bikes, your readership would drop to zero.
Naked? That Aprilia has a FAIRING! and more bullsh*t plastic bits than a Kawi Ninja! Sorry, Sweet bikes for sure, but let's atleast call apples apples, and oranges oranges. Just 'cuz it has upright ergos and a handelbar does not make it a naked. If I put clip-ons on my Speedy is it a sport bike?
catastrophically awful soundtrack, wind noise, not much information, and you should have brought the new BMW naked instead of the Triumph, come on guys, you can do it better...
Da fluck is with that music?
Wish you guys got the Monster 1200S for this.........
Not available yet, even for the press.
It would get smacked by the Tuono, trust me. Especially in the handling department.
The sound on this video is amazing compared to some of the other videos MCN have put out. They're getting there.
The v4 tuono is the best Naked bike ever built.
+kskisbetterthanseals
Agree but SuperDuke 1290R and also BMW S1000R are very close I think.
The S1000R isn't out until March '14, people.
Neevesy. MCN.
Test not completed. Where's the z1000 , s1000r and a few other super naked bikes?
I totally agree. And how the hell does the speed triple even fit into this catagory? They sound a bit bias when it comes to the speed triple. There are so many other rivals in the naked division, like the Ducati Monster, Z1000 and the list goes on. Sorry guys but I feel like this video was not all that good.
What about the MV 1090RR ?? Ducati Streetfighter S ... Z1000 , S1000R ?????
Please leave the music out or very low. I don't mind if I'm listening to you guys or the bikes but not keen on overly loud music where it should be engines.
Jesus sort the f*cking sound out guys....
Look forward to seeing a do over of this shootout when the S1000R is available :)
yes i agree sir!!! Come on MCN
In my opinion, the KTM is the best of the bunch.
Yes, Tuono have brutal sound.
What happened to part two? Says it's ben removed
I love this tuono !
I agree with some commenters that the music overshadowed some of what we could have gotten out if the video, but that said, I loved the track. Who was the artist?
what does fueling mean in terms of a bike?
fuel economy? or responsiveness? ?
Love your channel. But the sound is crap music in the beginning and noise then...
Can't wait for the next segment
What was the music used in this video?
Some negatives about the Tuono here. I think those that are slagging it out to try it... it's a brilliant bike.
It pisses on every other bike in almost every category.
0:20 what's up with that BP?
Would love to see a more in-depth review with KTM and other super nakeds. S1000R, Z1000, etc.
You guys missed the S1000R, how come you guys didn't test it?
Is it possible to know how much the new model improves the fuel consumption comparing it to last year model?? thanks
Why wasn't the new Z1000 and S1000R included as part of the comparison? Are they not worthy super nakeds ?
what about the s1000r?
What about the S1000R?
how about z1000 or s1000r ?
They need to normalise sound... fml... small tweaks with most video editing programs and it would make the video 5 times better.
20mph fly-by ... Thrilling!
Is the Aprilia really a naked bike with the windscreen?
Yes.
2016 same test please
Brace yourselves, sound quality comments are comming!
It's actually pretty good. Sure, the wind noise is a little annoying, but it's no big deal.
Would have loved to see the Ducati Monster 1200S and BMW S1000R in this comparison.
I agree with others thinking that the better comparo would have been with the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, BMW S 1000 R and the Ducati Monster 1200 S. This video needs to be redone for 2018!
Great video! I just can't wait to see a monster 1200 review. Also, is that a different version of the standard Tuono? It looks a little different, and it has a bigger windshield.
i think the tuono isnt even a real naked bike it has massive fairings
mcn show us the bikes and add your voices in da bckground edit it properly in order to see big numbers
You really should fix the sound!
Please, find a less windy spot to shoot and/or get a better mic, because the wind noise is super distracting.
Missing the BMW and the Kawasaki. But you are getting better with the sound! Not as good as on two wheels, but a way better than before
whaat is it with MCN and wind noise.
Always a hurricane in there microphones
BMW s1000r, it's a super naked that's got a lot of interest, surprised to see it missing, also the new ducati monster 1200
Speed triples forever !
hello MCN, which bike in your opinion is easier to wheelie? i am considering a Speed Triple or a Tuono V4r and would like to know what you guys think? i'm not a wheelie expert and am looking for something relatively easy to control in a wheelie...Heard an opinion that Tuono V4r is very hard to wheelie! is that true?
Probably the easiest bike to wheelie in history is the speed triple.
+Steve C With 130pk not even close to the SuperDuke.
Tuono's best:)
MCN buy a fluffy thing for your mic boom please. PLEASE.
Will be waiting for the next review..
great round up at the end! but only because the Tuono is more userfriendly menas it ranks better than the KTM ? maybe if we give the ktm another year or tow it will be more refined to the point of not getting better ?

bmw s1000r?
Where is S1000R?
How often are riders adjusting electronics for it to even be a reasonable factor? Are people really picking level 5 traction for one corner, then level 3 the next? Seems like extra distractions.
Chads beard is manly as hell.
Did it give you a rise?
Not the test i'm waiting for..that will be the Z1000 vs S1000R vs Monster 1200/S.That is one group test I'm eager to see the results. Still include the bikes you have here of course as the are excellent , but I feel the first 3 on my list will grab 1st,2nd and 3rd!
I have now tried the z1000 and the s1000r and while the Z is a brilliant bike it can't match the S.
Nice video. Please throw in another one including the BMW S1000R. Tbh, it intrigues me more than the KTM.
on the track things might work out differently...

The Triumph is for riders who can 'ride',and don't need electronics to help them!
The Ducati Streetfighter should have been in this review, too....
Except that the 1098 is discontinued. 848 Streetfighter isn't going to hold it's own here in the heavyweight division.
I still want that KTM, the Tuono is awesome but the styling just doesn't do it for me. Look forward to seeing this vid done again with the s1000r in the mix... That may change my mind.
missing BMW 1000R there - sound bad as usually
Wheres the bmw?
toujours chez nous les rosbeef ! arf
really want to know how the s1000r would compare against those bikes. it's "cheap" and has the latest and greatest tech currently available
So... Its electronics that wins vs out right handling and performance! What?
z1000?
Guess the BMW S1000r was too good to test?
didnt expect that, thought the ktm was going to win it. Daft idea not being able to knock tration on and off whilst on the move
Bring in the S1000r!!!
who wants to hear music over the sounds of the bikes??? I think we can safely say No One! Otherwise good vid lads. Look forward to the bmw.
The best is the beast
Monster 1200S...
Chad is looks so serious with that beard :).
I believed everything what he sad.
always an Aprilia!
Duke looks real good except the headlights
ill take the ktm in black
all i hear is wind noise and crappy music ...
I wanna hear engine and exhaust, not weird techno...
Jeezus, the music is appalling
First of all, the sound quality is extremely poor. Get real equipment.
Secondly, Not fair to compare these bikes.
Tuono is on another level in everything, money, power, performance
Superduke is what, 200 more cc than the ST?
All these bike are nice but not fair to compare them.
You guys really need to get your sound sorted. As usual good clips, but sound rubbish, every single time.
It's dead easy. There is a + and - button by the left grip. One in front, one behind. You can do it on the fly.
Its so easy you dont even need to take your hand off the handlebars, you can do it mid corner and the quickshifter will have you wahooing in your helmet!
:-D
Fun to watch, ridiculously painful to listen to.
What's Triumph for european bikes , that's Suzuki for japanese!

whats with the music???? it's disaster
nice test

God that song in the beginning is so damn annoying...
MCN, I love you videos but please get a sound tech... As they sound like shit
Turn it down!
awful vid. Adams talking is to quiet and that awful excuse for music is much to loud. Come on MCN sort out your production/editing.
Dumn music and no bikes to show..
I love MCN, but the music overlays on these videos need to stop. We're bike enthusiasts, not terrible techno music enthusiasts. Can't hear a single engine note over the music. If you devoted this much space in the print publication to discussion of techno instead of bikes, your readership would drop to zero.
Well said , that" music " was utter shite.
Unbeliveble stupid music !!
RUBBISH SOUNDS
